It’d be a real shame if the Washington elites couldn’t get to work for a couple months
Construction will soon begin on a new barrier to protect downtown Washington, D.C. and the National Mall from Potomac River flooding in the event of a massive storm.
Officials said Monday that the $9.6 million levee project will begin in late November or early December.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers concluded after Hurricane Katrina that Washington’s flood-control system — built some 70 years ago — was inadequate for a major storm. The corps estimated a major storm could cause $200 million in damages to museums, memorials and federal office buildings.
It’s not really a bad idea to deal with the levee’s, there is quite a bit of history in DC: the museums, the memorials, the federal buil….well, never mind them. Really, though, Katrina? Granted, D.C. is prone to flooding like most other cities, as well as basically being a swamp next to a river which last had a major flood…..damn, over 70 years ago. Funny how liberals are always going on about nature and man not interfering, yet, they have to make sure they protect their seat of power.
But, hey, it’s only $9.6 million. Pocket change.
Oops. Headline changed.
