GOP Doubles Down On Changing The Way Washington Works

Not to be a negative nelly, but, the House Republicans best not be writing checks they can’t afford to pay off

Republicans are working to make sure the House of Representatives functions better than ever, the leader of the GOP’s effort to transition into power said Saturday.

Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), incoming Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) pick to lead the Republican transition into the majority in the House, outlined the reform the GOP would look to undertake.

“For too long, Washington has been doing what’s best for Washington, and they get away with it,” Walden said in the Republican weekly radio address. “Too often, accountability counts for nothing, and transparency for even less, and common sense — well, it’s an endangered species.”

“That’s why our leader, John Boehner, has pledged to run the House of Representatives differently than it’s been run in the past – by both parties,” Walden added. “And he’s asked me to lead a transition effort designed to ensure our new majority will be ready to serve as the people’s voice and implement the proposals that Americans are demanding.”

“We invite Americans from all walks of life to visit GOPLeader.gov/NewMajority where you can submit your ideas. We’ve already received hundreds of ideas from across the country,” he said. “Whether you associate with one party, no party, or the Tea Party, we want to hear from you.”

I have a few ideas of my own, which I sent off at the site, but, hey, instead, what are your ideas for changing the way the House works?

Meanwhile, Obama used his weekly address to tell us how wonderful he is over in Asia (despite getting rebuffed yet again), and that he hates earmarks.

  1. “…and that he (Obama) hates earmarks.”

Given Barry’s hypocritical record as Prez on this matter, he will come to hate that the country was lucky enough to elect a Speaker (Boehner) who has never accepted an earmark in 20 years on the Hill. Memo to GOP: leverage this contrast to the hilt.

He did good. Real good. He was laughed out of the G20. His wife looked like someones maid rather than the Queen of the world. He found people to bow to. A missle was lauched off the coast of California. He spent in excess of 200 million dollars for nothing. He did real good. Can he be impeached for stupidity?

  3. Let’s hope the GOP has the cajones to keep going after them. They often wimp out.

If only that was possible, David, if only.

I agree. Repubs tend to wimp out with even the slightest attack (even if valid, most of which are lies).

I suggested starting with not selecting Rep Fred Upton to the House Energy Committee. He is a RHINO and can’t be trusted to stay true to conservative ideas. He co-authored the bill to ban incandescent light bulbs with a democrat. He is now trying to push for their elimination in outdoor lighting.

Can you imagine trying to play an outdoor sport game with CFL’s in the stadium lighting?
