The Green New Deal was released in February of 2019. To reiterate, every single Democrat in the Senate, including sponsor Ed Markey, voted present when it was put up for a vote. AOC became mad over holding a vote, wondering why the Senate was voting on HER House legislation, forgetting that Markey was the Senate sponsor. And since that time, AOC has yammered about it in various forms, but, still has not demanded a vote

Ocasio-Cortez Hits Critic For Not Reading Green New Deal Bill, Says It ‘Costs $0 If Passed’

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ripped one of her critics Thursday for suggesting the Green New Deal would cost Americans a fortune and require the government to confiscate every penny from billionaire and multimillionaires.

Ocasio-Cortez scolded conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg Thursday for saying in a tweet that taking every dollar from the likes of Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and others would not “cover a fraction of your Green New Deal fantasy.”

“Totally get it if you’ve never bothered to read the legislation you’re commenting so authoritatively on,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in reply before noting that the GND is a “non-binding resolution of values” and “costs us $0 if passed.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s signature legislation calls for several progressive proposals, including moving the United States off of fossil fuels within a decade, providing universal health care, basic income programs and job guarantees, as well as a slew of other ambitious plans. The GND would cost $0 if it remained a non-binding resolution and was not coupled with legislation satisfying the deal’s agenda.

Well, that’s true, it would cost zero if passed as a non-binding resolution, like many other resolutions. It begs the question, if that’s the case, why won’t the Democrat controlled House pass it? Heck, why won’t they even bring it up for a vote? Why won’t AOC demand a vote?

Several reports have determined that legislation actually enacting the GND would be an expensive boondoggle. The GND would cost households an average of between $74,287 and $76,683 in Colorado, Michigan and Pennsylvania, a February report from the Competitive Enterprise Institute noted.

The American Action Forum figured it would cost around $93 trillion over 10 years. Democrats definitely do not want to even bring it up for a vote because it is beyond the far, far left wish list, and it would not serve them well with the non-crazy leftist Democrats when voting time comes around. Just telling citizens that they want to enact these major, monster sized big government initiatives could cause major electoral problems.

Many North Carolina Sheriff’s Refuse To Stop Indoor Church Services

Many Sheriff’s Offices across the country are slowly starting to say they will no longer enforce many of the Bat Soup Virus restrictions. Especially when it comes to church services

More sheriffs plan to stand down and allow indoor religious services

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said his deputies won’t “interfere or prevent churchgoers to peaceably assemble and exercise their constitutional right to freely worship.”

The North Carolina Sheriff’s Association along with many other sheriffs departments are siding with those who want indoor services.

Father Peter of Saint Ann Catholic Church said, “People are stressed and they need the churches. They need this encouragement.”

The state plan to resume business and social activities during the pandemic suggests that churches hold outdoor worship services or limit services to 10 people at an indoor service for now, but law enforcement officials, ministers and others have been pushing back against that restriction in recent days, noting retailers can have dozens and sometimes hundreds of people inside their stores.

You also have the Nash County and Halifax County Sheriff’s department weighing in, saying they won’t bust anyone over this. Of course, that’s only 3 out of 100 counties, but, outside the urban area counties, the ones with cities like Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, and a few others, you can bet the sheriff’s were already ignoring the order

Public heath experts say there is evidence that stationary activities indoors have a higher likelihood of spreading coronavirus.

Yet, many businesses that have been open the whole time have this happening. People sit in waiting areas waiting for their cars to be done. We have chairs blocked off to keep people separate, but, they can sit there for hours. Customers can sit in front of us for an hour or more negotiating then doing paperwork then waiting for finance.

At Saint Ann, they’ve been holding outdoor Mass. But Father Peter believes it should be up to a church’s discretion to decide what to do moving forward. “I really think churches can regulate just as regular businesses can regulate the safety of its people,” he added.

I know some places work hard to clean, such as the carts at the grocery stores and the check out aisles. We have a person that comes in and sprays. However, you can’t get everything. And I can be there are some places that aren’t doing much of anything that are open. Think they clean the gas pumps?

Within hours of Bizzell declaring that his office wouldn’t stop churches from holding indoor services in violation of the statewide stay-at-home order, Rev. Steve Grice, pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Smithfield, said his congregation will worship indoors on Sunday.

“If 400 people can meet at Lowe’s then the few of us can meet at church Sunday morning,” Grice said. “We have plenty of room to practice social distancing.”

I was in Dick’s Sporting Goods yesterday seeing if a bike was available (tired of going for a long walk. No bikes. Didn’t expect any, but, took a shot). There weren’t many people, but, they had a sign saying 278 people were allowed. If there were 100 customers in there it would have been jammed in the aisles. Go to the supermarket and people are getting within a foot of each other all the time.

Anyhow, you can bet this same thing is starting to happen in Republican states and counties across the country. And in California

(Breitbart) Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said Tuesday that she would not be able to enforce Gov. Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home orders because she was too busy re-arresting accused criminals set free under the state’s new “zero-dollar bail” policy. (snip)

Carey asked her: “I’ve heard multiple sheriffs around the nation state they will not enforce their governors’ shelter-in-place orders. Is that your position?

“That is my position. We do not stop the public to find out what they’re doing when they’re not sheltering in place. We don’t ask those questions, we don’t ask if they’re ‘essential’. We’ve got our hands full trying to re-arrest people that are released due to zero-dollar bail. So we’ve got other things that are on our mind that are more important than stopping normally law-abiding citizens.”

Cleaner Air Is Actually Hobbling California’s Climate Fight

For once in California’s fight against climate change, lower greenhouse gas emissions aren’t cause for celebration. The recent drop in pollution as many factories sit idle is temporary, but it could hurt the state’s anti-global warming programs while it lasts.Many of those green initiatives are funded through a cap-and-trade system and the sale of permits to businesses that pump heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. Last year, California spent about $2 billion from the sales to continue building a high-speed rail system, buy electric school buses and prevent wildfires — all steps to chip away at emissions. Now emissions have decreased as the pandemic has closed offices, factories and schools. State revenue from selling permits in is in jeopardy.”That money is going to come under increasing pressure,” said Chris Busch, research director for the consulting firm Energy Innovation. “It was always everybody’s favorite pot of money to pull from.”

Analysts expect that the next quarterly auction, on May 20, won’t sell out of all the current permits available. Dozens of programs in California could be affected, including electric vehicle rebates, subsidies to help low-income residents insulate their homes and other “things that have real impacts on people’s lives,” said Katelyn Roedner Sutter, manager of the U.S. climate program at the Environmental Defense Fund.”I don’t think anything is completely safe,” she said.

It’d be a real shame if the rich folks didn’t get their subsidies for their Teslas.

CO2 is not a pollutant. It doesn’t make the air dirty.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Knocks Down Stay At Home Order As Un-Constitutional

Wisconsin Supreme Court strikes down state’s stay-at-home order

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has overturned the state’s stay-at-home order, ruling it “unlawful” and “unenforceable” in a high-profile win for the state’s Republican-led Legislature.

In a 4-3 decision Wednesday, the court ruled that Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ administration overstepped its authority when the state Department of Health Services extended the order to May 26.

The ruling comes after the Legislature’s Republican leaders filed a lawsuit last month arguing the order would cost Wisconsin residents their jobs and hurt many companies, asserting that if it was left in place, “our State will be in shambles.”

The suit was filed specifically against state Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm and other health officials, who made the decision in mid-April to extend the state’s “Safer at Home” emergency order. At the same time as the extension, the state loosened some restrictions on certain businesses, including golf courses, public libraries, and arts and crafts stores.

But the justices wrote in their decision Wednesday that “an agency cannot confer on itself the power to dictate the lives of law-abiding individuals as comprehensively as the order does without reaching beyond the executive branch’s authority.”

In other words, it was un-Constitutional. Meanwhile, let’s move a few hundred miles east

Hotcold Take: 3 Billion Will Live In Sahara Desert Like Heat By 2070

A third of the world could live in places as hot as the Sahara desert by 2070, WEF warns

Three billion people could live in places as hot as the Sahara desert within 50 years, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said on Wednesday.

The warning came after scientists found that a third of the world’s population could be forced to endure “unliveable” circumstances by 2070 if decisive action was not taken to halt climate change.

A research team made up of experts from the U.S., China and Europe analyzed rising global temperatures, comparing them to average climatic conditions over the last 6,000 years. Their findings were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences last week.

Unless moves were made to reverse the damage wreaked on the environment by greenhouse gases, one in three people could live in areas where temperatures matched the hottest parts of the Sahara today, according to the scientific study. This could become a reality within decades, the researchers found, with average temperatures for that percentage of the population projected to be above 29 degrees Celsius (84 degrees Fahrenheit).

I mentioned this “study” previously, but, you know the Cult of Climastrology: they’re going to ramp everything up to 11.

The researchers took population growth projections into account in the study. Today, less than 1% of the earth’s land surface currently experiences this climate, scientists said — but by 2070, almost 20% of the planet’s land area would reach those temperatures.

What’s the penalty for making prognostications of doom that never materialize?

“The crops, livestock and irrigation that are the bedrock of the planet’s food production system were developed, discovered and designed within those constraints,” the WEF’s Sean Fleming said in a blog post. “These, and other critical systems, cannot be expected to function normally outside the environmental niche they grew up in.”

What this CNBC article is considering is the utter worst case scenario of the study, which is the normal for the “unbiased” media.

According to the scientific study, by 2070 the average person will be living in temperatures 7.5 degrees Celsius hotter than pre-industrial times if climate change goes unchecked, with Africa, South America and Australasia particularly at risk. Extreme weather events could mean droughts, floods, famine and disease became the norm, the researchers warned.

We’ve only seen an increase of .8 to .9 Celsius since 1850, and they say over 6C in 50 years? Lunatics.

This is usually the point where Liberals/progressives truly understand how bad the issue really is for them, typically when even the NY Times cannot ignore it, so, now they want to have an in-depth discussion on the point of the Iraq War, which you have had 1,000 times, but, they strangely have never had.””

Trump and right-wing media distract from bad virus news with alternate reality

More than 82,000 Americans have died of coronavirus as of Tuesday. A top model now forecasts that 147,000 Americans will lose their lives by August. Millions are out of work. And the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is warning that reopening the country too early could have serious consequences.

Which is all to say that the news is not good for President Trump. Death and despair threaten to swallow his reelection hopes. A Tuesday CNN poll found that most Americans (54%) believe the US gov’t is doing a poor job preventing the spread of the virus. And a majority (52%) still think the worst is on the horizon.

Major news organizations are reflecting this grim reality with clear-eyed reporting, bold headlines, and historic front pages. So what is Trump, Fox News, and the right-wing media machine doing? They’re constructing a separate alternate reality to keep their fans distracted from the news and outraged at the long-standing villains in the right-wing media universe. The general idea is that President Obama and others improperly used the levers of gov’t to conspire against Trump to win the 2016 election, with the “deep-state” later working to kneecap him when he was in office.

It’s called “OBAMAGATE.” And as Tim Miller explained in his superb piece, the key tenets of the theory do not make much sense: “The main ones being (a) when spelled out all in one place it is absurd on its face and (b) if anything, the supposed deep-staters’ actions in 2016 served to help Donald Trump politically, particularly in the final weeks of the election when the FBI reopened the investigation into their supposedly preferred candidate, Hillary Clinton and then absolved Donald Trump of the actions they were supposedly framing him of in the New York Times.”

Ecosystem Collapse Tipping Point May Come Sooner Or Something

Climate tipping point ecosystem collapses may come faster than thought: Studies

The world’s largest ecosystems may alter drastically faster than previously thought, according to a recent study published in Nature Communications, shedding new light on the behavior of climate tipping points.

Real-life cases reveal a pattern: bigger ecosystems collapse at a faster rate than smaller ones. According to the findings, climate tipping points could happen in a matter of years or decades, not on the ecological timescale of hundreds, or even, thousands of years.

Observing this trend, the authors — stressing high levels of uncertainty — forecast that, after a tipping point is passed, the Amazon rainforest could disappear in under 50 years, while Caribbean coral reefs could vanish in 15 years.

“The Amazon could die before I do,” study co-author Simon Willcock, a senior lecturer at Bangor University, pondered upon seeing the results. “I had never sat down and thought it might be gone in my lifetime. It’s quite sobering.”

Years or decades. Uh huh. This is literally Madame Zelda at the carnival predicting doom, but, the difference is that Madame Zelda is not attempting to change state, national, and international politics and laws.

Leading Amazon experts Carlos Nobre and Thomas Lovejoy, wrote a recent editorial warning that the “Amazon tipping point is here,” based on real-world observations of a drying atmosphere. “We’re on the edge of a cliff,” Nobre told Mongabay. The modeling carried out by Willcock and his colleagues gives us a clearer picture of what a tipping point of this scale may look like.

It’s here, but we won’t know the true result in 50 years or so, hence, there are no repercussions when they are proven wrong, just like with almost ever Warmist prognostication. This is not science.

One of Joe Biden’s strengths among Democrats is his eight-year stint as Barack Obama’s vice president. It was, the former veep often says proudly, the Obama-Biden administration.

Suddenly, Republicans are happy to agree as they probe the previous administration’s role in the false Russia-collusion charges and the phony Michael Flynn prosecution. Already, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley has included Biden in his version of the infamous question, asking: “What did Obama and Biden know and when did they know it?”

President Trump calls it “Obamagate.” Any day now, I expect to see that changed to “ObamaBidengate.”

The 2020 race doesn’t lack for the sharp contrasts that usually decide elections. Trump’s personality and policies are one set, his response to the pandemic and the economic fallout another.

But the world’s greatest counterpuncher won’t play defense only and the entry of the Russia-Flynn scandal into the mix gives the president a big new hammer. Count on him to use it.

Yes, Trump often punches back too much and when he shouldn’t, but, Conservatives have been begging for the GOP to punch back at Democrats and the media for decades: Trump does this, and in a sustained manner. No holds barred.

“I know nothing about those moves to investigate Michael Flynn,” Biden quickly answered before saying the issue was a Trump diversion from the pandemic.

Uncharacteristically, Stephan­opoulos pressed him, noting that Biden attended the Oval Office meeting on Jan. 5, 2017, where the FBI’s plan to question Flynn was discussed.

Biden appeared confused, saying he thought the initial question was about Flynn’s prosecution, before giving a new, tangled answer. “I was aware that there was — that they asked for an investigation, but that’s all I know about it, and I don’t think anything else,” he said before again complaining it was all a diversion.

Hmmm. So he was at the meeting but doesn’t know anything about the shocking and most important thing discussed.

Trump will bring this up again and again, forcing the media to cover it. Sure, they’ll try and protect Joe, but that will just highlight to voters who could vote either way or are on the fence about voting for Joe that he’s shady. With Obamagate, Trump returns to a favorite distraction tactic

Donald Trump launched his political career turbocharging the conspiratorial birther movement. Now Trump is trying to keep his presidency afloat with another theory about his predecessor: Obamagate.

Over the past three days, Trump has tweeted and railed about unproven claims that President Barack Obama, in his final days in office, orchestrated a plot to damage the incoming president. “He got caught, OBAMAGATE!” Trump tweeted on Sunday, one of 126 tweets and retweets — the second-highest single-day total of his presidency — that kept returning to Obama.

This goes on and on, attacking Trump while trying to protect Obama. The thing is, once Democrats start trotting out the distraction/diversion talking points, they know they are in trouble.
