Snap! Temporary Pause In Volt Production Is A Good Thing!

It’s lengths that Volt fanboys will go to defend this POS…..well, except purchase one for themselves

(EV World) The five-week shutdown of the Volt production line is a good thing for plug-in vehicles because it will help align production with demand and keep GM’s revenue on the vehicles higher and fund ongoing vehicle development.

Here’s my rationale. The Volt is a great car. My extensive test drives have proved to me that its technology did everything it was advertised to do. But it’s an expensive car. GM could have put a Cadillac label on it and no one would have squawked – and its $41,000 price tag might have made more sense (even though federal and state incentives can knock that down quite a bit) . As a compact Chevy (particularly sitting on the lot with a similar-size Cruze going for half the price), the high price and its new technology have found buyers, but mainly among the techy, wealthy early adopters. Those who’ve bought the vehicle, including neighbors I’ve talked to and owners I’ve met at a Bay Area EV Meet-Up last year, love the car. My neighbor trekked more than 400 miles south to be the first on his block to get a Volt. I doubt he will be the last.

It’s so simple: keep the price high so rich people (and government) can purchase them. Screw all you other peons who are suffering with high gas prices. Hey, maybe if production shuts down permanently, the price will skyrocket!

Notice the writer mentioned test driving one, but, not purchasing one himself. It really comes down to supposedly saving the money in gas by spending $20k more. Except, one would have to keep this POS for a long, long time for it to matter. Or, one could spend $20k and buy a Cruze. Or a Ford Focus. Sentra. Corolla. Etc. And have money to use the car to take a trip, something not easily accomplished in the Chevy POS.

International Women’s Day Highlights Women Being Too Weak And Slow To Outrun Trace Gas Necessary For Life

Via Tom Nelson, whose headline was better “Bummer: Women allegedly can’t run fast enough to escape the alleged dangers of carbon dioxide”

(Green Fudge)….wait, Green Fudge? It’s probably because I’m writing this in the a.m. for posting later, but, that brings a disturbingly disgusting image to mind…..anyhow ……. While the cumulative effects of rising global temperatures have already caused dramatic changes to our planet, those changes often seem distant and it’s hard to put faces to them. But as climate change becomes more disruptive to daily life around the world, it’s more likely than not that the faces of that disruption will be those of women.

With the world celebrating International Women’s Day on Thursday, it’s a good time to reflect on just how vulnerable women are to the effects of climate change.

If you’re surprised to hear that gender makes a difference, you shouldn’t be. After all, we’ve long known that some groups are particularly threatened by climate change; the world’s most impoverished people are the best example. Millions of the poorest people live in regions that will be increasingly struck by rising sea level, extreme storms, droughts and famines. Women make up a shocking 70 percent of people living in poverty around the world.

Except, the seas aren’t rising anymore, storms have always happened, and so have droughts and famines. The whole story is basically a reiteration of the same old complaints we’ve seen, in a woman-centric fashion, with the “solutions” being education and “empowerment”, but, no mention of Warmists living….well, you know what I’m going to write, eh? Money quote

…During natural disasters and extreme storms — of which many are increasingly linked to our carbon-loaded atmosphere — women often lack the physical strength needed to pull themselves to high ground or to run for safe cover.

Did they just call women weak and slow? Rather misogynistic, eh?

Islamist Who Want to Get All Beheady To Appear In Court

This has apparently shocked the Triangle area Muslim community. I’m not quite sure why, perhaps they haven’t been paying attention to what some have been doing in the name of their religion

(Raleigh N&O) A woman accused of working with a Triangle man convicted of conspiring to commit terror to arrange murder of three witnesses in his case is scheduled to be in federal court this morning.

Nevine Aly Elsheikh, a special education teacher and daughter of a former N.C. State University professor, is accused of being part of a plot to have three people beheaded.

She is accused of transporting notes, photos and money from Hysen Sherifi, a Triangle man convicted of being part of a Triangle terror cell that conspired to wage jihad abroad and at home, to confidential informants and his brother.

Thank goodness she didn’t call someone a slut: then she’d be in real trouble.

Bachmann Terms Obama A “Health Care Dictator”

I usually avoid back to back posts on our Failure In Chief, but, Michele Bachmann makes some good points in between going a bit overboard

(The Hill) Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) suggested Tuesday that President Obama’s health care reform law could give the government a dangerous amount of power in individual’s health care decisions, going as far as to say “it isn’t farfetched” that the federal government could try to limit birth rates by refusing to cover associated health costs after a family has a certain number of children.

Bachmann, appearing on Glenn Beck’s online television network, argued that women had “a lot to lose” under the president’s policies. Her argument was intended as a rebuttal of arguments from Democrats who have said in recent weeks that the GOP is alienating female voters by opposing federal subsidies for contraception.

“Women have a lot to lose under Obamacare If you want to go into specifics, what the government gives, the government can take away. It certainly isn’t beyond the pale to think, in light of Kathleen Sebelius, the Health and Human Services Secretary — she said that it’s important that we have contraceptives because that prevents pregnancy, and pregnancy is more expensive to the federal government. Going with that logic, according to our own Health and Human Services secretary, it isn’t far-fetched to think that the President of the United States could say ‘we need to save health care expenses — the federal government will only pay for one baby to be born in the hospital per family, or two babies to be born per family.’ That could happen. We think it couldn’t?” Bachmann said.

She further went on to say

“I’m not saying he is going to do it, I’m saying he has the power and authority to do it,” Bachmann said.

Would Obama do this? No, even if he were to win a 2nd term, in which he would have no restrictions on pushing his far, far left agenda. But, he has the power. There are virtually no restrictions on the power of the Executive Branch, particularly HHS, to basically do whatever the hell they want. We found this out by reading the bill.

(CNS News) “The issue with Obamacare isn’t what we’re going to get, the bigger issue with Obamacare is what will be taken away, because we have now one person who’s a health dictator in our country and that health care dictator will decide what we get and what we don’t get,” Bachmann told CNSNews.com at the Capitol on Wednesday.

She also referred to Obama as a health care dictator during the Glenn Beck show interview.

Bachmann said the contraception issue was a “very small example” of what Americans can expect as a result of Obama health reform law, arguing that future presidents will use the authority the federal government has claimed to aid them in getting reelected.

“All this was, was a very small 3-D example of what ObamaCare looks like in the United States today,” Bachmann. “And this is what we’re going to see in the future. We’re going to see in future political elections, presidents are going to come up with a politically popular disease or a politically popular pharmaceutical drug and he or she will be pandering that product before elections.”

That is her most important point: health care/insurance, thanks to ObamaCare, has now become a political football, one which can be used during campaigns, with this or that candidate making all sorts of promises to spend taxpayer money on “x”. Right now, it’s contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients with no co-pays, and mandating that even religious organizations provide that coverage over their 1st Amendment religious objections. What’s next? ObamaCare creates a situation where the Central Government becomes more and more involved in mandates and health decisions, which will both drive up costs and reduce actual care.

Obama Pushing Dems To Vote Against Keystone XL Amendment

So reports the Politico

President Barack Obama is intervening in a Senate fight over the Keystone XL oil pipeline and personally lobbying Democrats to reject an amendment calling for its construction, according to several sources familiar with the talks.

The White House lobbying effort, including phone calls from the president to Democrats, signals that the vote could be close when it heads to the floor Thursday. The president is trying to defeat an amendment that would give election-year fodder to his Republican critics who have accused him of blocking a job-creating energy project at a time of high gas prices.

The amendment, proposed by Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), states that Obama would have no role in such cross-border permitting decisions since, in this case, the pipeline would originate in Canada. The measure would need 60 votes to pass, and Obama has already lost two Democrats who back the proposal – Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Mary Landrieu – and is at risk of losing more moderates and vulnerable Democrats.

Which is kinda strange, because Obama publicly cheered the construction of the southern portion of the pipeline the other day. In fact, just yesterday

(NewsOK) President Obama touted the construction of an oil pipeline from Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico today as a sign of oil production under his leadership, even though his State Department originally killed that pipeline when it refused to permit the construction of the Keystone pipeline.

“We just announced that we’ll do whatever we can to speed up construction of a pipeline in Oklahoma that’s going to relieve a bottleneck and get more oil to the Gulf — to the refineries down there — and that’s going to help create jobs, encourage more production,” Obama said in North Carolina today. “So these are the facts on oil production. If somebody tells you we’re not producing enough oil, they just don’t know the facts.”

Interesting. You do have to love how this famed narcissist is trying to take some credit for the announced construction, which is being done despite his Administration. His “leadership” has nothing to do with it. We could say this is part of his “leading from behind” mode, which includes claiming credit for the work of others.

Meanwhile, he announced he’s pushing for $1 billion in tax credits and grants for alternative energy cars and trucks, as he said in that same speech in North Carolina at a Daimler truck plant, because “We can’t just keep on relying on the old ways of doing business. We can’t just rely on fossil fuels from the last century. We’ve got to continually develop new sources of energy.”

The tax credits – which must be voted on by Congress – would help up to 15 cities and towns to pay for charging stations for electric cars and biofuel pumps for alternative fuel vehicles to encourage people to switch to electric cars.

Well, that’s sure going to help a lot of people, eh! It’s almost like he doesn’t understand how the economy works. But, back to the Senate vote, it’s really no wonder why Republicans and some Democrats want Obama out of the picture: he fails to understand the pain American’s are feeling, and the pain some Democrats will feel in the voting booth. And, if Keystone XL is not approved soon, America can kiss that oil goodbye. It may already be too late, what with the Canadian deal with China.

When Will Liberals Denounce RFK, Jr For His “Prostitute” Slur?

As Junk Science points out “Limbaugh mispoke. RFK Jr. actually took the time to type it out.”

Weasel Zippers has a few choice words for RFK, Jr.

Well, looks like there’s a Memeorandum thread up now, with a link to a Politico story (I wrote this as a draft in the am). No liberals denouncing the attention whore yet…oops, sorry, that was uncivil. But, still not as bad, or racist, as what these snowflakes chanted.

Oops: WW2 Vet Not Able To Vote With ID

Since I’ve come out in favor of requiring ID in order to vote, it’s incumbent to mention this

(Cleveland.com) A Portage County World War II veteran was turned away from a polling place this morning because his driver’s license had expired in January and his new Veterans Affairs ID did not include his home address.

“My beef is that I had to pay a driver to take me up there because I don’t walk so well and have to use this cane and now I can’t even vote,” said Paul Carroll, 86, who has lived in Aurora nearly 40 years, running his own business, Carroll Tire, until 1975.

“I had to stop driving, but I got the photo ID from the Veterans Affairs instead, just a month or so ago. You would think that would count for something. I went to war for this country, but now I can’t vote in this country.”

As Jazz Shaw points out

This case should be instructive for everyone, no matter which side of the debate you come down on. When enacting voter ID laws, there need to be a few basic hurdles which all of them should pass. If you’re going to accept any existing forms of ID above and beyond a drivers license, identify all of them out there and work to make sure they will pass muster before enacting the law.

Like all new laws, this is one in which the kinks have to be worked out. Carroll was offered a provisional ballot, but, he didn’t have his glasses and couldn’t read it. Certainly, there has to be some common sense involve: sure, the DL was expired, but, it was assuredly Carroll. That is the point of an ID, to make sure the person is who they say they are. Combined with a VA ID, that should have been enough.

But, consider: with all the votes that have so far been cast in states that now require photo ID, this is the one and only case found (so far.) If there were others, the liberal media would be front paging it constantly. This situation provides a good way to test the laws and get them in order for general elections.

Consider: you can’t buy a car with an expired license, because the paperwork cannot be notarized (among other reasons, including state laws). Certified.

Jimmy Carter Pops Up And Blames Israel Over Iran

I thought Groundhog Day was last month. But, I guess any discussion regarding Israel defending itself wouldn’t be complete without the input of a miserable failure at being POTUS, and a rabid anti-Semite

(Washington Times) Former President Jimmy Carter expressed concerns Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be too willing to go to war with Iran.

“I don’t think that’s his first preference, but I think he’s much more eager to go to war with Iran than President Obama [is]. And I was glad to see President Obama discourage that immediate resumption of hostilities between Israel and its neighbors that the Israelis seem to be inclined to do,” the former president said in an interview with The Washington Times-affiliated “America’s Morning News” radio broadcast.

See? It’s all Israel’s fault, a notion I’m quite sure most Liberals agree with. Because those Iranian Mullahs and leaders like Ahmadinejad are so trustworthy as to be allowed to complete their nuclear weapons program. It’s not like they’ve said multiple times that they want to see Israel wiped off the map or something.

“I think the economic sanctions would be adequate,” Mr. Carter added. “War with Iran can and should be avoided.”

Yes, war with Iran should be avoided if possible. But, Iran is attempting to become a nuclear weapons nation. And sanctions haven’t worked. They haven’t worked regarding their nuclear program, and they didn’t work when Iranians attacked the US embassy in Tehran (an act of war according to the Geneva Convention), taking Americans hostage, and Carter imposed them. And then did pretty much nothing else. There was no threat of war, allowing this Islamic fundamentalist state to rise and become the largest supporter of terrorism. But, there have been sanctions ever since. How’s that worked out, Mr. Carter?

Mr. Carter said he has met recently with the Muslim Brotherhood’s political and religious leadership, and “they know it’s very important to Egypt to maintain peace with Israel.”

“They assured me personally — and they have made public statements accordingly — that they will honor the peace treaty that I helped to negotiate back in 1979 … and I don’t have any doubt that they will carry out their promise to me.”

Was that assurance given before or after the Muslim Brotherhood threatened to review the peace treaty mid-February? But, then, I’m sure the Muslim Brotherhood is smart enough to understand that Carter is an idiot, anti-Israel, and a dupe, and will believe whatever they tell him.
