Climate change could be driving antibiotic resistance across the US, study warns
Climate change is wreaking havoc across the globe – melting ice caps, causing dangerous weather and decimating animal populations.
New research has found that it could also be increasing antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
A team of epidemiologists from Harvard Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital and the University of Toronto have found that higher local temperatures and population densities correspond with a higher degree of antibiotic resistance in common bacterial strains.
Previously, increase in resistance to common bacteria was thought to come from over-prescribing antibiotics.
And probably will be found to come from over-prescribing again. But, hey, notice two things. First, the use of “could”. It either is or isn’t. If you’re throwing out “could”, it means you aren’t sure, and, in this case, scaremongering. Second, notice that high density urban areas are considered bad for this.
The researchers found that an increase of 50 degrees Fahrenheit is associated with increases of antibiotic-resistant strains of E. coli (4.2 percent), K. pneumoniae (2.2 percent), and S. aureus (3.6 percent).
Say what? There’s been a 1.5F increase in global temperatures since 1850. We’re a long, long way off from an increase of 50F, so, this is all about fearmongering. Who’s surprised?

On the surface, things like this look just fine. Pro-2nd Amendment advocates are fine with keeping firearms out of the hands of people who might well use them for crimes. But, there’s a bit of a problem
(NY Post) A bill that would allow police and prosecutors to confiscate weapons from people deemed a danger to themselves or others passed the state Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
The legislation was referred to a second committee before it can go to the floor for a vote, but even Republican opponents acknowledged it could pass. (snip)
“As we’ve seen, these tragedies where someone who clearly demonstrated evidence that they were likely to harm themselves or others eventually did so and local authorities have few steps that they can take – people have realized that this tool of an extreme risk protection order could be very effective in that circumstance,†said state Sen. Brian Kavanagh, a Manhattan Democrat who sponsored the bill.
The Senate bill would allow family members, household members, law enforcement and district attorneys to get emergency “Extreme Risk Protection Orders†when there’s clear evidence that someone is likely to try to hurt themselves or others. (snip)
Those deemed at risk could contest the move in a hearing. The temporary orders would allow cops to confiscate guns. But the orders would expire in a year, when a second hearing could be held to allow a judge to decide whether the guns could be returned.
This all seems like a good idea. If someone is showing signs that they could be a danger to themselves (I thought Dems approved of suicide?) and others, a temporary order restricting their firearms would not be a bad thing. Law abiding gun owners certainly do not want people using guns to commit crimes. But, see, this is how it kinda shakes out in reality, as we see in Rhode Island
(NRA) Senate Bill 2492A, sponsored by Senator Maryellen Goodwin (D-1), would create broad gun ban powers under the guise of “extreme risk†protection orders. NRA-ILA strongly believes that dangerous individuals should not have firearms. However, this “red flag†legislation is an overreach with few legal protections for those who may be falsely accused.  This sweeping legislation would allow almost anyone to have another’s guns taken with little or no due process. The bill allows seizure and forfeiture through ex parte hearings where a respondent isn’t given notice and a hearing.
Many of the “red flag” laws being passed or attempting to be passed blow off the federal and state constitutional requirements for due process, and make it very easy for people to have their 2nd Amendment Right taken away willy nilly. Which is not a bug, but a feature. And this kind of thing is exactly why Republicans tend to block most wise gun control measures that would keep firearms out of the hands of bad actors: because we know Democrats will include things that would make it easier for Government to mess with the 2A Rights of law abiding citizens, and then demand even more measures.
Few countries seem to be actually doing something to uphold their commitments, and others just want their redistributed money (via Watts Up With That?)
Is Iran pulling out of Paris Agreement?
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif signed the Paris Agreement on climate change during a ceremony at the United Nations headquarters in New York, April 22, 2016.
“However, the agreement was brought before the Guardian Council, but the council did not approve it and proposed amendments, so the deal is now being hammered out in agriculture, water and natural resources group of the Majlis,†ISNA quoted Karim Shafie, deputy environment chief for legal affairs, as saying on Saturday. (snip)
As Shafie said, Iran has submitted Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) to the UNFCCC committing to cut the greenhouse gas emissions by 4% percent in 2030. However, subject to termination and non-existence of unfair and brutal sanctions, availability of international resources in the form of financial support and technology transfer, exchange of carbon credits, accessibility of bilateral or multilateral implementation mechanisms, transfer of clean technologies as well as capacity building, Iran has the potential of mitigating greenhouse gas emission up to 12%.
Basically, they want their money.
And if they leave it, they’ll blame it on Trump, and the 1st World Credentialed media and Democrats will be happy to take Iran’s side.

I’ve covered this in a couple posts, and it’s a very simple concept: parks establish specific areas to grill out for a variety of reasons. And when you’re talking about uber-greenie weenies, Progressive, government loving California, of course someone is going to call the cops. And we and up with raaaaacism
Hundreds in Oakland Turn Out to BBQ While Black
They arrived with chicken, sausages and bowls of macaroni salad. D.J.s played hip-hop and 80s hits. Even the fire marshal showed up, as well as police officers who waved hello to passers-by and guided traffic.
What once was a grand tradition in Oakland — a party at Lake Merritt along a placid stretch of the San Francisco Bay — had new life on Sunday, as locals gathered for a picnic called “BBQing While Black.â€
“It was epic,†Logan Cortez, an Oakland schoolteacher and an organizer of the event, said. “It was a sea of love and blackness and food and fun.â€
Imagine the scolding had someone held one and talked about a sea of love and whiteness.
The event, which drew hundreds of visitors from around the Bay, was held in the wake of an episode on April 29, in which a white woman harangued two African-American men for grilling at the lake and called the police on them.
The police arrived and spoke to the woman, who had claimed it was illegal for the men to use a charcoal grill in the area. There were no arrests.
“Claimed.” No. It was. And this type of SJW shoddy virtue signaling reporting is why the media is not trusted and blasted for being partisan, as well as making race relations worse.
But the video, which was viewed more than two million times on YouTube, ignited a debate about racism in Oakland, where gentrification has displaced many African-Americans who grew up there.
It’s now racist to point out people are violating rule, regs, and laws.

Progressive Media: Trump/North Korea Summit Could Have ‘Negative Effect on Global Warming’
With the coming North/South Korea entente you might have thought that, finally, President Donald J. Trump had achieved something even progressives would applaud.
But you’d think wrong. Already one liberal media outlet has found a fatal flaw in Trump’s scheme to bring peace to the Korean peninsula: it might make climate change worse.
Here’s the verdict of E & E News on the summit which some are arguing should earn the president a Nobel Peace Prize.
The anticipated meeting between President Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un could put the former real estate tycoon eye to eye with a reviled autocrat who appears more in line with global thinking on one issue: climate change. North Korea is a party to the Paris Agreement, the 2015 pact that Trump plans to withdraw the United States from despite an uproar from allies around the world.
That’s because if sanctions against North Korea are lifted, the hermit nation’s coal could flow onto the world market, with the bulk of it ending up in South Korea, Japan and China.
And, they could actually start using power, as we see deeper in the E&E article (paywalled, Watts Up With That? has a bit more of it)
Most ordinary North Koreans live without power during the day, despite the country’s status as a net energy exporter. That energy poverty kept North Korea’s greenhouse gas emissions at 63.8 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2013, while South Korea put out 673.5 MtCO2e — more than 10 times as much.

This is the kind of thing the Cult of Climastrology is worried about. Not the brutality, not the starvation, not the terrible living conditions, or any of the myriad issues which could be improved by an inflow of capital and reliable, affordable, available energy. Nope. These Warmists seem to think North Korea being one of the worst energy poverty countries in the world is awesome. You’ve all seen the North Korea at night graphics.

The funny part here is that the same paper, along with most others, was utterly uninterested in investigating the Obama/Holder gun running scheme Operation Fast and Furious, which resulted in scores being killed and wounded in America and Mexico, including children and two federal agents. At least one of those same guns that were lost was reported to have shown up in Paris during an Islamic jihadi attack
America paves the way to the next tragedy
TOO MANY doors. Abortion. Video games. Ritalin. Those are some of the explanations trotted out by Republicans and the National Rifle Association in the wake of Friday’s mass shooting at a high school in Santa Fe, Tex. The willingness to say anything — no matter how ludicrous — would be laughable if not for the fact that 10 people are dead and that refusing to acknowledge the role played by this country’s lax gun laws only paves the way for the next tragedy. (snip)
Friday’s school shooting underscores that there are no simple solutions. There seem to have been no clear warning signs about the suspected shooter, a 17-year-old who had made the honor roll and once played on the school football team. The weapons he allegedly used were a shotgun loaded with buckshot and a .38-caliber revolver his father had legally obtained, not a semiautomatic rifle. Opponents of gun control have seized on these factors as evidence of the futility of expanded background checks or an assault weapons ban. But it has always been understood that no single measure will be the answer for every crime.
Well, Democrats have said it it very easy: ban “assault rifles”, ban magazines that hold more than 10 bullets, and close the so-called gun show loophole, and everything will be fine. Perhaps some red flag laws and a few other minor things.
The next step is to acknowledge this reality: What sets America apart from the rest of the civilized world is not Ritalin or school entrances or violent video games but the astronomical number of guns and the easy access to them.
That’s the final line of editorial: is anyone else deducing that what they mean is to ban all guns? If you’re going to blamestorm something, you obviously have a plan. Why won’t they just come out and say it?

37,461 were killed in automobile accidents in 2016. 10,497 were from drunk drivers. No one is calling to get rid of autos nor alcohol. In fact, the CDC reports that alcohol use causes 88,000 deaths a year. Why no calls to ban alcohol?
While there’s certainly something to be said for fossil fueled vehicles putting out actual pollutants which does not include carbon dioxide, as typical, the nags are out in force, and everything you need to know is in the UK Guardian subhead. And remember, this is in the UK
Clean-air campaigners call for ban on school run to cut pollution
Government urged to take steps to reduce the impact of toxic air on vulnerable children
Clean-air campaigners have written to the government calling for a ban on parents driving their children to school in an attempt to cut down on toxic levels of air pollution.
Environmental groups and medics warn that pollution from the school run is having a serious impact on young people’s health.
Last year, the Guardian revealed that hundreds of thousands of children were being exposed to dangerous levels of air pollution outside schools, colleges and nurseries.
Now new figures from the Department of Transport show that that one in four cars on the road at peak times are on the school run.
The gas they’re focusing on is NO2, particularly as it emenates from the use of diesel fuel, which, if you remember, was pushed hard as a means of reducing “carbon pollution.” It’s funny, though, how they always want to use government force on behavior, though, eh?
Jenni Wiggle from the charity Living Streets, which has written to the transport minister, Jesse Norman, said more children walking meant fewer vehicles on the road and improved air quality for everyone.
“We would like to see more local authorities working with schools to ban people from driving up to the school gate – adding to air pollution, congestion and road danger during drop off and pick-up.
“Walking to school not only improves our air quality but is a great way for children to build more exercise into their daily lives, helping them to arrive to school healthier, happier and ready to learn.â€
All they’ll have to worry about, at least in certain parts of the UK, is getting stabbed by all the “refugees”. Or sexually harassed by the same. Cause, it’s also funny that the Progressive push to go soft on crime had made it too dangerous for kids to actually walk or ride their bikes to school, like they did in my time. Oh, and the integration push, whether it be for race or economics, forces kids to go to schools too far away to walk or ride their bikes.
And restricting parents from using their cars and getting kids on buses is also a great way for the Government to control people. Sounds like we’re in tin-foil hat territory, but, this is what they have said they want to do.
