New research has estimated that over the next 100 years climate change could cause up to a 20 per cent decrease in demand for electricity for heating in Northern Europe and up to a 20 per cent increase in demand for electricity for cooling in Southern Europe.
Electricity consumption is instrumental in adapting to climate change in terms of our reliance on heating and cooling needs in the face of future temperature changes. It also plays a large role in mitigation as electricity accounts for more greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than any other sector in Europe.
And that’s why they call it “climate change,” folks, because, in Alarmist World, a warming world causes it to get colder. But, wait, there’s more fun!
The study, supported by the EU ADAM project, focused on changes in electricity demand at a microeconomic level, i.e. at the level of individuals and households. Using data on residential consumption, electricity prices, per capita income and climate data, it estimated the impacts of the IPCC climate change scenario A1b, with expected global temperature increases of well above 2°C, on electricity consumption in Europe for the next 100 years.
If the world is supposed to warm by 2°C (3.6F), then, in a rational, scientific world there would be less need for heating energy. That’s why it was called “global warming”, rather than “it’s warming in some places more than others because the temperature stations are ill sited and tend to be near big cities which tend to show a warming trend more than the surrounding countryside.” Doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue, eh? But, wait, there is more!
Results indicated that an increase in temperature has an impact on electricity consumption four times the size of the equivalent decrease in temperature. This could be because cooling (such as air conditioning) requires more energy than a ‘similar’ amount of heating, especially as there are other options for heating, such as wood and gas. Cooling, on the other hand, can only be powered by electricity.
Got that? It takes four times more energy to cool than to heat, which means that there is going to be much more need for heating energy than cooling energy, which denotes a …….. cooling trend! Which, unlike the rest of the history of the Earth, can only be caused by Mankind driving cars! I blame Mark Noonan at Blogs For Victory.
