MWP And LIA Both Show Up South Of The Equator

One of the talking points for Warmists has been that both the Medieval Warm Period a the Little Ice Age were limited to the Northern hemisphere, and some even go so far as to say they were primarily limited to the European region. There are many reasons they push this, mostly to position those changes as only occurring in the “first world”, without mentioning that there wasn’t any manufacturing or use of fossil fueled vehicles back in the 1100’s. Global Warming had this to say in a similar article regarding research that shows the effects of the MWP and LIA in Antarctica

This is a hotly debated question, because it is harder to make the case that the warmth of recent decades is “unusual,” ”extraordinary,” or “unprecedented” and therefore something to stress about if global climate oscillates naturally between warming and cooling periods. The catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (CAGW) crowd tend to write off the MWP (~1000-1200 A.D.) and LIA (~1300-1850 A.D.) as regional phenomena, largely confined to Northern Europe. A new study finds evidence of the MWP and LIA in a region 10,000 miles south of Northern Europe: the Antarctic Peninsula.

There have been lots of studies coming out this year showing that both were global. Here’s another

(No Tricks Zone) Based on data from a few carefully selected tree rings, dogmatic warmist scientists like to insist that the Medieval Warm Period really did not exist globally and was only a local North Atlantic phenomenon.

The climate, they tell us, was pretty much steady over the last couple thousand years – until man began to prosper a hundred years ago.

However, yet another new study, one by Michael Shawn Fletcher and Patricio Iván Moreno, has been published and adds more to the growing mountain of evidence that the Medieval Warm Period was indeed a global phenomenon. This in turn means that natural climate drivers are dominating the development of the climate, and not CO2.

Another Warmist talking point bites the dust.

Grist Not Particularly Happy About The Sales Of Taco Bell Doritos Tacos

Why is Grist’ Jess Zimmerman not happy? Because they make us fat, and if we’re fat, we kill Gaia with CO2. No, that conclusion is not mentioned, but, having read Grist for a long time, that is the only conclusion

If you want to know where the country’s obsession with recursive fast food comes from, look within. Chances are, you will find a Doritos Locos taco. If you don’t, look within the guy next to you, because SOMEBODY has been buying 100 million of these things over the last 10 weeks. It’s now Taco Bell’s most popular product launch ever.

I have complained before about the current trend of inventing new junk foods by nesting existing ones inside one another like some kind of hideous fast-food Turducken. (In fact, I’ve used that exact line, but “Turducken” is an inherently funny word/concept, so you get it again.) But I have to admit, it works. 100 million tacos! To put it in perspective, that’s three for every resident of Canada. Or it would be, except that Canada has too much self-respect.

The worst part is, apparently these tacos don’t even taste good. I haven’t eaten one — I did try to get the Grist office to do a test run, partly for humor value and partly to make me feel better about working from home, but for some reason they refused — but something definitely happens to your mouth or brain at some point in your 20s to make Doritos stop tasting good. And according to a Grist List writer who is not me (I’m being vague so as not to embarrass her; you’re welcome, Sarah), they just taste like extra-salty tacos anyway. So basically, it’s a normal-tasting taco that is specially engineered to cover your hands in indelible gunk. You might as well just eat a taco and then rob a bank or pet a squid or something.

So, she says they don’t taste good (and are Evil), but hasn’t had one. But, they’re killing Gaia. Funny thing is, Doritos are popular with people above 30. But, I do have to agree with her assumption on the taste. They’re rather bland. It’s like eating a very slightly flavored taco, and, as I said in the comments over at Grist, if you don’t eat it quick, it’ll be a very soggy very slightly flavored taco. I’ve had them a few times as part of their “$5 box”, and tend to bring them home or back to the break room, and eat it last. Soggy.

Obama-Economy: Only 9 States Have Turned The Corner

The recession officially ended in June 2009, before the policies of Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress could truly kick in. We’ve discussed many a time what effects this continued malaise have occurred within the states, effects such as low income, sales, and property tax rates because so many people are out of work or underemployed, along with simply being frugal with what money they have (disposable income is at historical lows). Now we have yet more evidence that the policies of Obama and the Democrats have been utter failures

(USA Today) The residents of only nine states have returned their economic output to the level that existed before the downturn struck at the end of 2007 — and most of those states are energy producers, according to data released Tuesday.

Even states now on the rebound — such as Michigan, Connecticut and California — find themselves far behind where they were economically when the recession started 4½ years ago, the data show.

Gross domestic product — the value of goods and services produced — grew in 34 states in 2011 after adjusting for changes in population and inflation, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Typically, nearly every state boosts its GDP in a recovery.

But 41 states haven’t made up the ground lost during the deep recession that ran from December 2007 to June 2009.

There’s a handy dandy graphic at the story, which shows the economic output of all the states. The 9 are North Dakota, Oregon, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Alaska, New Hampshire, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Most of those states are ones that produce energy. North Dakota has seen a massive boom in oil production.

Despite Obama’s continued call for increasing manufacturing output states that rely on it are doing poorly. Perhaps that’s because people aren’t buying, and all Obama has done is talk about it. Real estate is still in the toilet. Perhaps dumping tons of money into re-paving roads, fixing potholes, painting bridges, building turtle tunnels, funding studies in China about hookers, and, oh, yeah, hooking up campaign contributors who happen to run “green” energy companies which were close to failing was a bad idea.

It’s Obama’s economy, and it’s time for him to own it.

Wisconsin Elections: The Aftermath

With 99% of precincts report, Gov. Scott Walker defeated Democrat Tom Barrett by 53-46, a larger win for Walker than his first win in 2010. It does look like the Senate might flip back to the Democrats, though. Lt. Gov Rebecca Kleefisch also easily won, and provides the quote of the night

That’s what all the liberals were chanting during their 16 month hissy fit. Of course, Dems aren’t real pleased with “democracy” when they lose.

Gateway Pundit features a Democrat crying like a 5 year old over the loss. Unshockingly, a Democrat is crying “voter fraud.” If Walker was defeated, does anyone think Dems would still be concerned?

Jammie Wearing Fools highlights lots of Democrat whining, including a story by Progressive tool Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post complaining that this loss was all about the money. Which is rather funny, since Obama easily outspent McCain in 2008, and bragged that he was going to raise $1 billion for the 2012 election. If money is so bad, why do I receive multiple fundraising emails from Team Obama almost daily? Doesn’t matter where it comes from, it’s spendable.

Anyhow, The Politico provides the aftermath on The Biggest Losers

“If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score?”

Well, politics is all about keeping score — and Democrats suffered a good old-fashioned beatdown. They invested seven months of effort, tens of millions of dollars, exhausted volunteers to collect nearly 1 million signatures. Then, they litigated an extremely divisive primary and spent millions more — all to get back to exactly where they were when they started: with Walker on top.

Democrats are trotting out talking points now that this has nothing to do with the national race.

“Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”

Democrats are right on this score: The race had absolutely nothing to do with Barack Obama. Indeed, the number of voters in Wisconsin who didn’t have strong opinions on Walker could fit in the checkout line at Kohl’s. In exit polling, voters Tuesday said they favored Obama over Republican Mitt Romney by 51 percent to 45 percent.

But make no mistake: the outcome signaled in powerful and durable ways that Wisconsin today looks exponentially more in play this fall than it did a mere month ago.

Yet, Republicans mostly cruised to easy victories. Long time incumbent Russ Feingold lost to Ron Johnson. Republicans are already fired up in Wisconsin, and Obama only leads by 6.

The story goes on to discuss enthusiasm and confidence, both of which Republicans have and Democrats don’t following this election, which Team Obama essentially ran from. Let’s also consider that Democrat voting unions spent oodles of money, with that money pouring in from all over the country. And now they have less money for the national election. And, as the year goes on, we’ll get to see that the Wisconsin Republicans fiscal policies in action. If they continue to improve the economic conditions in Wisconsin, that will look bad for Democrats and Obama.

Media Calling It For Walker

Bummer. All that wasted union money which could have been used to, oh, I don’t know, help their members out directly

(NBC News) Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker survived a furious recall campaign on Tuesday, emerging as the victor in a bitter fight over state budgets and collective bargaining rights.

NBC News declared Walker the projected winner over Democratic challenger Tom Barrett in a closely-watched campaign first prompted after Walker drove a bill stripping public employee unions of their collective bargaining rights through Wisconsin’s legislature showed little signs of abating, according to exit polls.

Dems are not happy bunnies, and have entered Force 10 Apoplexy. Let’s go to the DU (language warning. Shocking, eh?)

Morons. Americans are morons.
We fucking get the future you deserve.

Go back to American Idol and your monster truck rallies.

Morons.

If it (the call for Walker winning) is valid, I have nothing but disdain for America’s Dairyland

Sissy doody crap…and fuck. Yes, fuck and shit..

my take. america is a totally fucked up nation.

And one started by a major DU moderator, Skinner

FUCK.

On same thread

  • Double fuck.
  • It’s over. The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
  • Something is fishy NO ONE had a lead this big. This country is in big, big trouble.
  • WHAT?! Already?! SO DEPRESSING. I’m fucking sick.

And then it gets really weird. The comments at the NBC story get weird, too. And funny as Dems go into their typical conspiracy theories, Citizens United, voter fraud, etc.

Solar Cells Linked To Greenhouse Gas 12,000 Times Worse Than CO2

Um, oops?

(Digital Journal) Solar cells do not offset greenhouse gases or curb fossil fuel use in the United States according to a new environmental book, Green Illusions (June 2012, University of Nebraska Press), written by University of California – Berkeley visiting scholar Ozzie Zehner. Green Illusions explains how the solar industry has grown to become one of the leading emitters of hexafluoroethane (C2F6), nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). These three potent greenhouse gases, used by solar cell fabricators, make carbon dioxide (CO2) seem harmless.

Hexafluoroethane has a global warming potential that is 12,000 times higher than CO2, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It is 100 percent manufactured by humans, and survives 10,000 years once released into the atmosphere. Nitrogen trifluoride is 17,000 times more virulent than CO2, and SF6, the most treacherous greenhouse gas, is over 23,000 times more threatening.

The solar photovoltaic industry is one of the fastest-growing emitters of these gases, which are now measurably accumulating within the earth’s atmosphere according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A NOAA study shows that atmospheric concentrations of SF6 have been rising exponentially. A paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Geophysical Research Letters documents that atmospheric NF3 levels have been rising 11 percent per year.

So, the measures meant to stop globull warming actually create real anthropogenic global warming.

We’re Saved! Youth Wins Contest To Take Fossil Fueled Flight To Rio20

Obviously, said youth will tell us about the evils of fossil fueled flights

(Grist) If you had just a few minutes to address world leaders —to give the ultimate “My Fellow Earthlings” speech —what would you say? That was essentially the question behind A Date With History, a challenge sponsored by the climate campaign Tcktcktck, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Climate Nexus. They invited anyone between the ages of 13 and 30 to write a speech addressing the attendees of the Earth Summit in Rio next month.

Tell the bigwigs about what kind of future you want, they said. The best speechifier will win a trip to Rio —and possibly a chance to address the gathering in person.

Save the future by spewing tons of evil greenhouse gases.

Her name is Brittany Trilford. She’s 17, from Wellington, New Zealand, and yeah, she’s got some things to say to the folks who are in charge —about broken promises, about the consequences of corporate and government actions, and about what we could learn from nature about how to run the planet.

What she’s not going to do is practice what she preaches. Notice, like most Warmists, she wants someone else to Do Something (video available at the above link).

Said trip (both ways) from New Zealand to Rio would produce over 6,100 pounds of CO2. The average citizen of the world puts out 4 tons if CO2. That means that this one trip for a 3 minute video puts out 3/4ths of what most world citizens put out per year.

Heh: Tom Nelson “Hooray!: Brainwashed 17-year-old wins a trip to Rio for three-minute speech where she suggests that trace amounts of CO2 may cause her to not have a future”

Democrats Continue Shiny Object Campaign With Paycheck Fairness Act Vote Today

OK, we’ve already established that Democrats understand that there are, in fact, reasons why there can be a pay gap. The White House suggested that there are “varying degrees of seniority” as to why women are paid less, on average, than men working in the White House. Democrats at a crosspost at Right Wing News exposed that they understand the issue. Democrats have even said the Paycheck Fairness Act is simply a shiny object. If they really thought it was important, they would have brought it to the floor soon after it was announce over a month ago. Oh, and let’s not forget that under the PFA, Democrats, who have been shown to pay women less, would have to pay them the same, regardless of seniority or any other reasons

(The Hill) The White House and congressional Democrats on Monday launched a full-fledged public-relations blitz in support of a paycheck-fairness measure in advance of a key Senate vote on Tuesday.

President Obama, directly inserting himself into the Capitol Hill debate over pay discrepancies between men and women, joined other Democrats in urging the Senate to move forward on a bill that he said would both promote fairness and help the economy.

And with Senate Republicans widely expected to block the paycheck measure on Tuesday, Obama also signaled that Democrats are ready and willing to use that vote against the GOP as both sides hunt for support from women this campaign season.

“Women are the breadwinners for a lot of families, and if they’re making less than men do for the same work, families are going to have to get by for less money for childcare and tuition and rent; small businesses have fewer customers,” Obama said on a Monday conference call. “Everybody suffers.”

Yet, the Obama White House pays women around $11,000 less a year on average than men. Shame on them! Even though there are perhaps valid reasons for the pay disparity. Doesn’t matter. They’ll have to pay women the same, as will Democrats in Congress. Unless they exempt themselves. And let’s not forget that this would also mean that women could not be paid more than men, even if they have, say, more seniority.

And it’s just a shiny distraction meant to prop up the phony GOP war on women

In late April The Hill reported that bringing the Paycheck Fairness Act to the floor was a Democratic ploy to put GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on the defensive with women voters.

Women should be insulted in the manner that Democrats are patronizing women, as well as the notion that women can only succeed with the help of the Central Government.

Then there’s this

Furthermore, this was designed to fix a problem, that for all practical purposes doesn’t exist. (I’m not saying that some women aren’t discriminated against. Some women are. Some men are. Heck, we had a big discussion on being discriminated against because of weight a while back. But, no one wants to bring out the scales at annual increase time.) CONSAD Research Corp did an indepth analysis of the effect of gender on pay in 2009. It turns out that almost all the differences can explained by choice. From the forward by the Department of Labor.

1. A greater percentage of women than men tend to work part-time.

2. A greater percentage of women than men tend to leave the labor force for child birth, child care and elder care…

3. Women, especially working mothers, tend to value “family friendly” workplace policies more than men…

It’s easy to say “hey, women see pay discrimination in the workplace.” Once we get beyond the actual sound bites, the reality is different.
