As mumps, measles and Hep B cases are on the increase, shingles in adults vaccinated against chickenpox as children has cratered!
But how? As you well know both chickenpox and shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus. So… if you had chickenpox as a youngster you are susceptible to shingles as an adult (although the shingles vaccine for adults reduces the likelihood) as the varicella-zoster virus survives in your nerve cells.
Have your children vaccinated.
Also, shingles vaccine in adults may protect against some dementias!!!
