Crazy Juan Cole: Coal Should Be Criminalized

I’m sure all Warmists will now refuse to use any power that comes from coal, right? (via Tom Nelson)

(Informed Consent) Muller’s study analyzed all the weather data available since 1750 and found that the average temperature of the earth increase by 1 percent from 1750 to 1850, and has increased another 1.5 percent since 1850, for a total of 2.5 percent since the beginnings of the industrial revolution.

That sounds evil and “we’re doooooomed”, eh? What Muller stated was that there was a whopping 1.5 degree Celsius rise since 1750. That’s 2.5 Fahrenheit. During a typical warm period, said period coming right on time during the cycle. Yawn.

…If we go on the way we have been, spewing ever more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, we will produce a tropical planet with no ice on it and will forestall any further ice ages for at least 100,000 years. Since there are places humans now live, such as cities in Sindh, Pakistan, that already reach over 130 degrees F. in the summer, likely the planet we are creating will have large swathes of uninhabitable scorching places on it. Climate change will involve extreme weather events like massive storms, and these in turn may damage the ozone layer, sunburning us all to death.

A tropical planet like during most of the history of the earth? Nothing too unhinged and overwrought in that, eh?

One obvious lesson of Muller’s study is that coal should be banned immediately and its manufacture and distribution should be criminalized…This task has to be our number one priority, more important than fighting a small terrorist organization in distant lands, more important than spending 20 times on the war industries what our closest ally does, more important that imprisoning people for a few tokes, more important than tax breaks for the wealthy, more important than reproductive issues…

And there you go. I expect all Warmists who cite and read Juan Cole to immediately determine if they are the recipients of power from coal fired plants and STOP! Whether it be home, the office, when traveling. No, carbon offsets do not cut it, they aren’t acceptable. Heck, any Warmist who uses coal fired power should immediately go to the nearest police station and turn themselves in.

It’s not like we get 40% of our power from coal (again, I’m not a big fan of coal, but, until it can be replaced at the same price, no, do not get rid of it) and doing this would create major problems. And surely Lefties would be the ones whining the most when the rolling brownouts and blackouts hit.

Oh, and then there is this from the settled science

(UK Dailymail) A tiny particle one thirtieth the width of a human hair could be driving pollution and climate change, researchers say.

Harvard University scientists studied atmospheric particles, a highly lethal air pollutant which appears everywhere in the atmosphere, but is more common above cities.

The tiny particles play a key role in air pollution and climate change by providing a surface for chemical reactions and reflecting and absorbing radiation.

I’ll be interested to see which particle is being discussed once the study is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Is it natural? Man-made? It’s not CO2, else they would have mentioned it.

Pfeiffer Forgets To Include The Apology In Apologizing To Krauthammer

Remember the other day when White House Communication Weenie Dan Pfeiffer insulted Charles Krauthammer of the Churchill Bust, calling Charles a liar? Charles said he wanted an apology as Dan was full of mule fritters. Supposedly, this is it

Yesterday following his column, I sent the following email to Charles Krauthammer. Charles asked that I make the email public and I have agreed.

Charles,

I take your criticism seriously and you are correct that you are owed an apology. There was clearly an internal confusion about the two busts and there was no intention to deceive. I clearly overshot the runway in my post. The point I was trying to make – under the belief that the Bust in the residence was the one previously in the Oval Office– was that this oft repeated talking point about the bust being a symbol of President Obama’s failure to appreciate the special relationship is false.  The bust that was returned was returned as a matter of course with all the other artwork that had been loaned to President Bush for display in his Oval Office and not something that President Obama or his Administration chose to do. I still think this is an important point and one I wish I had communicated better.

A better understanding of the facts on my part and a couple of deep breaths at the outset would have prevented this situation.  Having said all that, barring a miracle comeback from the Phillies I would like to see the Nats win a world series even if it comes after my apology

When will the apology come? Does anyone actually see it in that email to Charles? I see that Charles is owed an apology? Pfeiffer never actually gets around to saying “Charles, I apologize, I’m sorry for calling you a liar”. Pfeiffer does admit that he was totally wrong, so, at least, there is that.

Try doing this with your significant other, a friend, Mom: “hey, I owe you an apology.” And see how long said person stares at you waiting.

Humorously, none of the usual suspects on the Left, who went bat guano crazy in supporting Pfeiffer’s original assertion, have bothered mentioning the Pfeiffer “apology”, and, more importantly, that yeah, Obama refused the British offer to keep that particular bust.

Warmist May Not Have Children Because Of Globull Warming Fears

(HuffPuff) …over the past few years, I have begun to question whether or not I should ever have children.

It has nothing to do with anxiety about supporting a child on a writer’s income — that could be overcome with help and hard work. It has nothing to do with a lack of maternal urges — my uterus twinges every time I smell a baby’s hair. It has everything to do with my fears about climate change and how different my child’s life will be from my own.

If only all Warmists would refuse to have children, we’d be just a couple decades away from ridding the world of these idiots. Then there’s this

Personally, I choose unemployment over extinction.

Globull Warming, Class Warfare, Last On List Of American’s Concerns

Who would have thunk it?

(Gallup) Creating good jobs, reducing corruption in the federal government, and reducing the federal budget deficit score highest when Americans rate 12 issues as priorities for the next president to address. Americans assign much less importance to increasing taxes on wealthy Americans and dealing with environmental concerns.

Yeah, much less importance

….like dead last on importance. As The New Nostradamus of the North points out “In spite of all recent heat wave hype in the media, climate change and global warming are not among the major concerns for Americans.” And, after years of the Democrats class warfare meme, that’s dead last, too.

The interesting part is that both are dead last on the list for Obama voter’s concerns.

There’s a ton more that can be read into the whole poll, but, that’s for you, dear reader. I’m just highlighting these two.

Heh! Obama Says He’ll Get The Economy “Going Full Guns”

At a $40,000 a head fundraiser Monday night (weird how the Occupiers weren’t outside protesting) Obama said

(Politico) “I’m confident that we are running a good campaign” and will continue to do so, but Democrats are “being outspent substantially,” he told 60 donors, who gave $40,000 each. Though Obama said he doesn’t anticipate being able to match them dollar-for-dollar, “we’re going to have to continue to compete … make sure that we can get our message out effectively.”

What the Politico, and most media reports, left out was (via Weasel Zippers)

(Washington Examiner) The president said today that his positive campaigning in the fall would explain how he’ll get the economy “going full guns” in his second term.

“There is going to be . . . the need for voters in these swing states to know not just what they’re voting against but also what they’re voting for,” he said. “And so we’ll be spending a lot of time talking about the specific agenda that I intend to pursue in the second term — which I think will make sure that this economy is going full guns.”

Obama’s had 3 1/2 years to get the economy “going full guns” (rather violent discourse, eh?). He got everything he wanted during his first two years, as he had a Democrat controlled Congress. He got his Stimulus, his son of Stimulus, his health destruction bill, Dodd-Frank, creation of the Consumer Protection agency, his massive spending, his “green” energy investments, giving a large chunk of General Motors over to the unions…..and none of it worked. His big ideas for the economy right now are written on a sticky note, and not even the Democrat controlled Senate is willing to take them up.

What makes him think his tired and busted ideas, which have failed every time they are tried both domestically and internationally, will work? The man lives in a fantasy world.

Democrats Propose Law To Limit On-line Ammunition Purchases

While I think it might be a worthy goal to stop crazies like James Holmes from being able to make such a huge purchase, it also effectively hamstrings honest citizens.

(CNN) Two Democratic lawmakers took on the hot-button political issue of gun control Monday, introducing legislation that would effectively ban online ammunition sales.

Longtime gun control advocates Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-New Jersey, and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-New York, introduced the bill that they said would prevent buyers from purchasing unlimited quantities of ammunition through the Internet or through the mail. The bill would also require ammunition dealers to report bulk ammo sales to law enforcement.

“It’s time to close the loophole that’s allowing killers — deranged, insane — and even terrorists to buy ammunition online,” Lautenberg said Monday at a news conference on the steps of Manhattan’s City Hall. “You don’t have to be a scientist to understand how wrong this is.”

These same Democrats have already submitted an amendment to the Cybersecurity bill on gun restrictions, which we can’t read because it hasn’t been voted on yet. This, though, is not necessarily a bad idea. It’d be best if people with murder in their hearts and terrorists not have easy access. But, what does the legislation actually propose? It’s called the Stop Online Ammunition Act, and it means to virtually stop online purchases

….An eagle-eyed, ever-vigilant reader send us a link. Here’s the skinny:

The Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act works through four components:

· It requires anyone selling ammunition to be a licensed dealer.
· It requires ammunition buyers who are not licensed dealers to present photo identification at the time of purchase, effectively banning the online or mail order purchase of ammo by regular civilians.
· It requires licensed ammunition dealers to maintain records of the sale of ammunition.
· It requires licensed ammunition dealers to report the sale of more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition to an unlicensed person within any five consecutive business days.

Interesting. Democrats do not want ID to be required in order to vote, but do want ID in order to buy ammunition. To use their own words, that negatively effects minorities and the young, who apparently do not have ID.

That second bullet point, with the ID, is the most important one, as it means that most people will not be able to purchase ammunition on-line, because they won’t be able to show ID. Since there is no actual legislation to read, we don’t know if there will be any sort of “loophole” which would allow citizens to fax, email, or text their photo ID to on-line stores.

I really don’t have a problem with the 3rd and 4th bullet points, but, interestingly, they do little to nothing to actually stop large on-line purchases. Of course, it could possibly mean a visit from some level of law enforcement, inquiring as to why someone is purchasing that much ammunition. Based on how fast the government works, that visit could come long after the shooting.

But, again, the 2nd would penalize law abiding citizens who just want to save a few bucks. I myself have purchased bullets on-line. My little Walther P-22 is a touchy gun, and so I stick with Winchester ammo, which doesn’t jam. It’s tough to get. So, I purchased …….wait for it…..1,000 rounds at one time. I shot most of them off in 6 visits to the shooting range (I still have the rest, 20 loaded in 2 mags, which are not in the gun, but near). Yes, I shot 150 rounds off in each visit. That’s how one practices. So, under this legislation, I’d have been reported to… someone…. for what was a completely legal purchase.

Hot Rumor: Marilyn Monroe Might Have Been A Lesbian

Gee, if only she was around to confirm the rumors. Alas, since she died 40 years ago, she has no way to either confirm or defend, so liberals have no problem making allegations

(HuffPo) She might have been one of the world’s premier sex symbols, but Marilyn Monroe was plagued with well-documented personal insecurities — among them the possibility she might be a lesbian, a new book alleges.

Author Lois Banner describes Monroe’s doubts about her sexuality in her new book, “Marilyn: The Passion and the Paradox,” an extract of which has been published in The Guardian.

“She had affairs with many eminent men –- baseball great Joe DiMaggio, playwright Arthur Miller, director Elia Kazan, actor Marlon Brando, singer Frank Sinatra, the Kennedy brothers –- and she married DiMaggio and Miller,” Banner writes. “Yet she desired women, had affairs with them, and worried that she might be lesbian by nature.”

Or, she could have swung both ways, could have been bi-curious, or, it could be a load of mule fritters. Or, it could be the enormous amounts of drugs she was taking. No matter what, it’s still rather despicable for progressives to make allegations without proof in order to buck up their politics.

Warmists Wonder If Momentum Is Building To Act On Hotcoldwetdry

(National Journal) Is optimism building that the United States–and the rest of the world–can address global warming?

A series of extreme weather events –including droughts, wildfires, and heat waves –have thrust the topic of climate change into the limelight. Some influential energy experts, both conservative and moderate, are mulling a carbon tax to control fossil-fuel-generated emissions of greenhouse gases, which most scientists agree are causing global warming. Recent studies have shown that carbon emissions in the United States and other developed countries have actually stabilized and even decreased, due in part to increased reliance on natural gas over coal (the former results in 50 percent fewer carbon emissions than the latter). Some experts and prominent thinkers, such as New York Times’ David Leonhardt are also saying that despite the odds, the nascent renewable-energy industries are thriving as costs continue to come down.

Are these trends, or at least perceived trends, taken together signs that the United States and other parts of the world can come together in a way to address global warming even without an overarching agreement to cut greenhouse-gas emissions? What else is needed in order to spur more concrete action on this front? Is a carbon tax possible, both politically and economically? What other options should be on the table?

If you read the rest of the article, you’ll see 5 responses, all by those allowed by National Journal, and, would you be shocked to learn that they all one Someone Else to pay the piper? Why is it that Warmists never agitate for themselves and their comrades to lead the way and act in accordance with their belief set?

As far as a growing concensus to act, doubtful. Politicians want to get reelected and were able to witness the devastation wrought on the Queensland, Australia Labour party, which pushed all the “climate change” laws. In the elections earlier in 2012, Labour lost so many seats that they are no longer an officially recognized political party.
