NC Governor McCrory Signs Bill Outlawing Sanctuary Cities

This has, as you can imagine, made the people who support the lawless activities of illegal immigrants angry. Or, should I say, angrier, because Leftists seem to be perpetually angry/offended/outraged

(WRAL) Gov. Pat McCrory on Wednesday signed into law a measure that prohibits any North Carolina county or municipality from restricting local law enforcement’s ability to cooperate with federal immigration officials.

House Bill 318, dubbed the Protect North Carolina Workers Act, also requires state and local government agencies to use the E-Verify system to check the legal status of job applicants and contractors, bars government agencies or law enforcement from using consular or embassy documents to verify someone’s identity or residence and limits food assistance for able-bodied, childless adults who are unemployed.

Good for him. McCrory made it perfectly clear that legal immigrants are more than welcome. Illegals are not.

Maria Cortez Perez said the law will pose difficulties for her and her family because all of the identification they have been using is now invalid in North Carolina.

“My family will have a hard time to obtain my sister’s birth certificate because they weren’t born here. Some of my family members won’t be able to get married,” she said. “How am I going to cut on my electricity, my heat, when I move out by myself?”

Here’s an idea: go back to your country of origin, and, if you want to be in the U.S., do it legally.

Unsurprisingly, the ACLU, AFL-CIO, NAACP, and other left wing groups are having a hissy fit over the law.

Now, though, we’ll see if the State of North Carolina will enforce the law. Los Federales already have a similar law, which is not enforced.

Winners And Losers From The GOP Debate

The biggest loser? CNBC. They have been roundly criticized for their absurd questions. Here’s a bit of Ted Cruz on the subject

“Let me say something at the outset,” the Senator from Texas said. “The questions asked in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media.”

“This is not a cage match. And you look at the questions — Donald Trump, are you a comic book villain? Ben Carson, can you do math? John Kasich, will you insult two people over here? Marco Rubio, why don’t you resign? Jeb Bush, why have your numbers fallen? How about talking about the substantive issues,” Cruz said to commanding applause from the audience.

Moderator John Harwood was caught in a lie. Then there was this interaction between Donald Trump and Becky Quick

QUICK: You have been very critical of Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook who has wanted to increase these number of H1V —

TRUMP: I was not at all critical of him. In frank, he’s complaining that we’re losing some of the best people … I am all in favor of keeping these talented people here so they can go to work in Silicon Valley.

QUICK: So where did I read this and come up with this you’re —

TRUMP: Probably, I don’t know. You people write this stuff.

Got that? Quick was asking a question on something she “read somewhere”, and didn’t know where she actually read it, and was asking The Donald where she read it. Can it get much more asinine?

The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza proclaims the winners as Rubio, Cruz, Christie, Trump, and Graham (though Graham was on the undercard).

The losers were Bush, Carson (I thought he did better, personally), Rand Paul, John Kasich, and CNBC.

CNN has the winners as Rubio, Cruz, Trump, Kasich (I don’t see it), and Christie.

The losers? Jeb Bush. And, surprise, CNBC. Ben Carson was given an “unclear”. I’d agree with that.

One more: The Hill has the winners as Cruz, Rubio, Christie, Carson, and Fiorina.

Trump, Kasich, and Huckabee were give a “mixed.”

The losers: Bush, Paul, and, surprise surprise, CNBC.

Conservative complaints about media coverage are nothing new, but criticisms of CNBC extended far and wide in the aftermath of the Wednesday’s debate. A general whiff of arrogance permeated several of the questions from the moderators. Within moments of the debate ending, even Vanity Fair magazine — hardly a redoubt of conservatism — had a story on its website headlined, “How CNBC lost its own G.O.P. debate.” Even the network’s pre-debate punditry was widely criticized.

Will the Left leaning media learn from this fiasco? We’ll see. One last comment highlighting CNBC’s idiocy, via Chris Christie

He burst out, “Are we really talking about getting the government involved in fantasy football? We have – wait a second – we have 19 trillion dollars in debt, we have people out of work, we have ISIS and al Qaeda attacking us, and we’re talking about fantasy football. Can we stop?”

The audience cheered, and he concluded, “Enough on fantasy football – let people play. Who cares?

When moderator John Harwood tried to interrupt him, Christie retorted, “Even in New Jersey what you’re doing is called rude.”

Boom.

Surprise? NOAA Refuses To Comply With Subpoena Over Climate Documents

Remember when Democratic lawmakers demanded documents from Skeptics who work for universities and private organizations in a witch hunt for daring to disagree with the Cult of Climastrology and there was no outrage from Leftists and other Democrats? Democrats are now fully on board with their Outrage over subpoenaing material from NOAA, and NOAA knows they have their back

(Daily Caller) The global warming debate on Capitol Hill is heating up. Government scientists refused to comply with lawmakers’ demands they turn over internal documents regarding a study that eliminated the “hiatus” in global warming from the temperature record.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) officials argued such records are confidential and “essential to frank discourse among scientists.” The science agency said it has a history of protecting the “confidentiality of deliberative scientific discussions.”

NOAA’s decision not to comply with a subpoena from House science committee lawmakers has only angered Chairman Lamar Smith, a Texas Republican, who says Americans have a right to know what taxpayer-funded scientists were thinking when they altered the temperature record in June.

Congress has oversight, a role given to them by that pesky Constitution thingy to make sure the Executive Branch was on the up and up for one, as part of checks and balances. They tried multiple times to do it the easy way and asked NOAA for the documents. NOAA declined. Hence, the subpoena.

“NOAA needs to come clean about why they altered the data to get the results they needed to advance this administration’s extreme climate change agenda,” Smith said. “The agency has yet to identify any legal basis for withholding these documents.”

It looks like this is going to be yet another case of stonewalling from an Executive Branch agency, similar to the VA scandal, the IRS targeting scandal, the State Department slow-walking information on Benghazi, Operation Fast and Furious, etc and so on.

One has to wonder what NOAA has to hide. NOAA is a federal government agency, and the employees and anyone involved in the study are paid by the US taxpayer. Their documents, even their communications, are subject to oversight by Congress.

Of course, Democrats are acting outraged that a House committee would dare demand documents on the study

“With the science committee, it is working scientists being intimidated, who often do not have the resources to defend themselves, and the threat is to the integrity of the scientific process in the US,” according to Vox. “It won’t take much for scientists to get the message that research into politically contested topics is more hassle than it’s worth.”

Interestingly enough, there was no outrage on the left when Democratic lawmakers were demanding documents from university climate scientists and organizations who disagreed with the Obama administration’s position on global warming.

Let’s not forget that most of the people the Democrats went after were not working for the US government.

Al Gore: All The Climate Scientists Predictions Have Come True!!!!!!

No, really

(Politico) POLITICO’s Michael Grunwald recently sat down with Al Gore in Miami during a training conference for the newest version of his climate-change slide show. The following is a transcript of their conversation.

MG: It was amazing seeing your slide show nine years later. It seems like the biggest difference is: There’s tons of proof and tons of hope. Maybe more proof than hope.

AG: All the predictions of the scientists have come true in spades, except it’s now abundantly obvious that they erred on the conservative side. The process of science values caution, as it should. But it’s abundantly apparent from all the real-world evidence that the projections back then were way too conservative. The damage is widespread and accelerating. And yes, the second big difference in the slide show is that the potential for renewable energy and efficiency and battery storage to replace the carbon-based energy system, which was speculative nine years ago, is now racing ahead on an exponential curve that is absolutely thrilling.

Remember this one?

Five years ago at a UN Conference on Climate Change, Al Gore predicted that, global warming having reached such an unbridled pitch, the North Pole might be completely ice-free during the summer of 2014. This climate change crusader had made the same claim when he accepted the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Was he right? Let’s take a look.

FYI, it wasn’t ice free. Nor was it ice free in 2015. Or any of the other years they claimed would be ice free.

They’ve been predicting the “climate change tipping point” for 25 years, yet it hasn’t come to pass. They told us that school kids wouldn’t know what snow is. We were told that the big 2005 hurricane season would be the new normal. We were told that Superstrom Sandy would be the new normal. Nope.

Here’s a post on failed predictions. And another. And another. And another. And another. And here’s the biggest fail of all

Obama Looks To Use Poop As Energy Source

There’s a joke hiding in that headline that I’m really not sure what to do with

(Washington Examiner) President Obama is turning to poop as his latest gambit to fight global warming.

The White House is announcing $6 million in grants Monday to promote the use of a mix of garbage and/or animal feces to produce a renewable form of electricity to help fight global warming, as the president sets his sights on reaching a global deal to cut greenhouse gas emissions in Paris in December.

“As we look to Paris, today’s actions demonstrate America’s continued leadership in land management strategies that mitigate emissions and adapt to climate change,” a fact sheet from the White House reads. “Such actions include promoting soil health, improving nutrient and manure management, protecting sensitive lands, and encouraging renewable energy.”

OK, as funny as that is, considering that Hotcoldwetdry is a load of mule fritters, turning food and animal waste into power could, and I stress could, be worthwhile.

The Department of Agriculture is taking the lead in promoting smart agriculture practices by funding “anaerobic digesters” that can use garbage and an array of waste from livestock to produce clean, renewable energy from the production of biomethane gas.

Is it worth “$102 million in federally backed loan guarantees and $71 million in grants through the Rural Energy for America Program”? Will it create more greenhouse gases? Will it be relatively safe? Does the cost out-way the benefit? Is this just Team Obama hooking up their donor base? It would be nice if this panned out.

Greenland’s Melting Glaciers Is Totally Terrifying Or Something

Remember the old saying about “liberalism being a mental disease”? What about for the Cult Of Climastrology? It seems that their mental disease is self imposed, as they have constant mental breakdowns over a minuscule bit of warming, just a shade over 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit over a 165 year period of time, warming that is consistent with a low level Holocene warm period. Here we have Damon Beres at the Huffington Post

Drone Footage Of Greenland’s Melting Ice Sheet Is Stunning, Terrifying
It’s beautiful and depressing, all at once.

Terrifying! Depressing! In fact, the rate of retreat, 164 feet per year, is the same as back during the 1930’s, when CO2 was well below the “safe” level of 350ppm. Some, let’s be honest, are retreating faster. Which in no way proves anthropogenic causation. Just warming/melting. Let’s not forget that Vikings made a pretty good living in the nearby island of Iceland, farming and stuff in a green paradise during the Medieval Warm Period, and were wiped out during the Little Ice Age. If we go back over 100,000 years, the temperatures in Greenland are postulated to be 14F higher than today. Were cavemen driving fossil fueled SUVs?

Climate change is one of the biggest problems facing humanity, but it’s not always the easiest to visualize. A dreadfully skinny polar bear is a powerful symbol that might shock you in the moment, though it’s hard to understand what it might say about our changing planet overall.

The New York Times on Tuesday presented an innovative new approach: Footage shot via drone that shows the melting Greenland ice sheet.

So, they took a fossil fueled trip to Greenland, and then a fossil fueled trip to areas of Greenland, to obtain these drone shots, which are 100% anecdotal? Awesome.

This is all about the Narrative, which seems to be turning Warmists into complete mental messes. It’s no wonder there are so many stories and studies linking ‘climate change’ with mental health: Warmists are bat guano insane, and they’ve done it to themselves.

It is incredible video, though. It took a long time to write this post because I watched it.

Amish Man With No Photo ID Suing Over Denial Of Gun Permit

Well, now, this is an interesting case, and brings up a different issue

(Daily Caller) An Amish man filed a federal suit in Pennsylvania last week because he was not allowed to purchase a gun without proper photo identification, according to The Washington Post.

In the Amish tradition, practicing members cannot have their photo taken. According to the suit, Andrew Hertzler, the plaintiff, “has a sincerely held religious belief that prevents him from knowingly and willingly having his photography taken and stored.”

The case, as The Post points out, highlights the tension between the Second Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) of 1993, which was established to avoid cases such as this. Hertzler, in order to enjoy his Second Amendment rights, would have to violate his faith.

“The exercise of one Constitutional right cannot be contingent upon the violation or waiver of another,” the suit reads.

Mr. Hertzler again attempted to purchase a firearm over the summer, using a government issued non-photo ID, and was again told “no”, because a photo ID was required. So, her reached out to Senator Pat Toomey, who checked with BATF

Toomey heard back from the ATF and sent Hertzler the following response: “As the enclosed response [from the ATF] states, Federal firearm laws require photo identification when purchasing a firearm. There are no exceptions to this federal requirement.”

There are a couple things at play here. First, the 2nd Amendment says the Right shall not be infringed. I personally do not have any problem in requiring a photo ID for purchase of any gun, be it a handgun or a long rifle. For 99.9%, there is no infringement. Or is there? More on that in a moment.

The First Amendment says that Congress shall pass no law that restricts the free exercise of religion. Does requiring a photo ID to make a purchase when taking a photo is against a person’s religion a violation of the 1st?

Obviously, in a rational and sane world, an accommodation would be made for Mr. Hertzler (and other Amish), since they know who he is, and he has a government issued ID. Certainly some government official or someone else with a photo ID could vouch for him.

But, let’s think about this: in order to exercise a Constitutional Right, one must, no exceptions, have a proper government issued photo ID. Liberals pitch a hissy fit over photo ID requirements to vote. Why no complaints about the requirement for gun purchases?

Liberals say requiring photo ID disenfranchises certain people from being able to vote. By certain people, they mean Blacks, because Liberals apparently think Blacks are too lazy, poor, and stupid to be able to obtain a government issued identification card, even though most states, especially those who require photo ID to vote, offer them free or at very low cost for many low/no income citizens. Does not requiring photo ID for a legal gun purchase disenfranchise these same people from exercising their Constitutional right?

You can’t have it both ways, Democrats. Pick one. Photo ID or no ID?

BTW, states that require voter ID do, in fact, have accommodations, typically in allowing a provision vote be cast.

NCSU Snowflakes Upset Over Party

OK, I’ll admit, the party theme was in poor taste, no doubt about it. Who would have thought that college kids would engage in stuff that others might have said “um, maybe we shouldn’t do this”?

Theme party causes controversy at NC State

A controversial party, held on the heels of “Diversity Week,” is causing a stir among students at North Carolina State University.

The party, held off campus Thursday night, involved a theme – CMT v. BET. Party goers were urged to attend dressed to parody country music culture and black culture.

Obviously, this has dragged the Perpetually Aggrieved/Offended out in force

Officials say there will now be new roundtable discussions on diversity, in additional to new panels, programs and town halls on campus.

Yay, roundtables! Here’s where it gets a bit amusing

“We have a whole university of folks who don’t entertain these conversations, that don’t participate in diversity week, so this challenges us to really think about how we can engage those students that are not interested in diversity programming,” said Roshunda Breeden, diversity coordinator for the Poole College of Management.

So, a whole bunch of college students couldn’t give a you-know-what about being part of the Perpetually Aggrieved/Offended crowd. Good for them. But, hey, really, someone was Aggrieved/Offended, and, rather than ignoring the issue and giving power to the offenders, or a hearty F You, they need to drag everyone in to their world.

University officials said there is no evidence that Thursday’s party was hosted by a campus organization, but the investigation is ongoing.

Investigation? Into a moronic, slightly offensive party? That wasn’t held on campus? Thought Police in action. It’s no wonder we can’t deal with big issues when we have people who conflate minor issues to be on par with the Cuban Missile Crisis.
