Book And Show Post

It’s been awhile since I did a book post, but, hey, let’s do something different, especially since I have so many books to read I’m not even sure what to read next.

You can see on the sidebar I have it linked to my Goodreads account, showing ones I’ve finished. Lately, I’ve just had back to back to back to etc of ones that I Have To Read come out, starting with Run 3 by Rich Restucci. Then a Glimmer of Hope by Steve McHugh. Then The Light by Michael John Grist, which was the last book in the series (I would have liked a more detailed ending, going a bit further, rather than leaving the possibility open for a follow up.) And his books became tough reads because of the terminology used and such.

Then Double Down by M.R. Forbes, which was book 2 in a series which had followed a very long series. You can expect there to be a 3rd in a month or so. And on to Blood Ghast Blues by Jake Bible, an incredible science fiction writer who lives in Asheville, NC, which is the 2nd in a series.

After that I’m looking at

  • March to War by Timothy W. Long, 2nd in a series.
  • New Threat by Nathan Hystad, 2nd in a series
  • The Long Sunset by Jack McDevitt (been waiting for another book by him for awhile)
  • Dead Lost by Flint Maxwell, book 6 in series
  • You’re Never Ready for The Zombie Apocalypse by Jeff Thompson
  • New Strain by SJ Morris
  • Fallen Out by by Wayne Stinnett
  • Future Remains by Robert Jack
  • Dusk of Humanity by M.K. Dawn
  • plus a bunch of others I’ve downloaded samples for, and, of course, as more are released

I guess it’s a good problem to have, but, can make you blow through them a bit quick. The first 4 are the ones I will go through, then move on to the others.

So, what are you reading?

Also, what are you watching? Kinda stuck for binge watching material. I was finally able to binge watch Colony, now have to wait for season 3. Was able to do same with The Walking Dead, now waiting till it comes back near end of year. Rewatched Game of Thrones. And Band Of Brothers.

Oh, and if you haven’t watched Vikings, that was an incredible show. Now have to wait for the next season.  I tried Fear the Walking Dead, but, couldn’t make it through the first few episodes of season 2. Hated the way they treated the military in season 1, and, really, these characters are fools. They’re the type of people who get everyone else killed in a zombie apocalypse. They get off the ship with no weapons, and just walk around on their own? Good grief.

I’m thinking about Man in the High Tower and Black Sails. I tried The Expanse, through episode 3, but, just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Any recommendations?

The Shipping Industry Is Finally Going To Cut It’s Hotcoldwetdry Emissions Or Something

Hooray, a sector that is finally practicing what it preaches!

The shipping industry is finally going to cut its climate change emissions. That’s a big deal.

Member nations of the United Nations body charged with regulating shipping on the high seas adopted a first-ever strategy Friday to blunt the sector’s large contribution to climate change — bringing another major constituency on board in the international quest to cap the planet’s warming well below an increase of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

The strategy embraced by a committee of the International Maritime Organization would lower emissions from container ships, oil tankers, bulk carriers and other vessels by at least 50 percent by the year 2050 vs. where they stood in 2008. The group also said that emissions from shipping should reach a peak, and begin to decline, as soon as possible.

“IMO remains committed to reducing GHG emissions from international shipping and, as a matter of urgency, aims to phase them out as soon as possible in this century,” the group said.

Oh, wait, shippers are going to have this forced on them. They didn’t agree to cut its own “climate change emissions.” This is a forced solution by governmental bureaucrats who refuse to cut down on their own fossil fuels usage.

And that International Maritime Organization? Sounds like something all shipping companies are part of, right? Uh uh. It is a U.N. agency.

Of course

Yet despite the ambition of the current strategy for shipping, Rutherford’s group’s analysis shows that it may not be strong enough. The group says that to be consistent with the Paris agreement, shipping should emit no more than 17 billion tons of carbon-dioxide-equivalent emissions from 2015 onward but that the current agreement implies emissions between 28 billion and 43 billion tons. (No action at all, meanwhile, could have meant 101 billion tons.)

So, they’ll still want more and more. Surprise!

How will they do this? They do not really say. I supposed they have some sort of plan behind the scenes, but, you know what it will mean? Increased costs to you, the consumer.

Your Perfect Lawn Can Make ‘Climate Change’ Worse Or Something

Another day, another thing the Cult of Climastrology has to attempt to ruin

How perfect lawns can make climate change worse

On warm spring weekends, many people start tending to their yards. But while landscaping and grooming the lawn, they may be contributing to climate change.

Sara Via, a professor at the University of Maryland-College Park, says gas-powered tools are a significant source of carbon pollution.

Via: “Mowers, weed whackers, roto tillers, leaf blowers …”

Synthetic fertilizer also contributes. Via says it’s energy-intensive to produce, and when over-applied, it can stimulate microbes in the soil to produce more nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas.

But she says people can make landscaping more climate-friendly – for example, by weeding and pruning using hand tools, or mowing with an electric mower. She says organic fertilizer is less harmful than synthetic, but it’s still important to use no more than needed.

She states that people shouldn’t worry if they have bad spots in their lawn, we should all just accept some imperfections. Should I jump into the notion that this is very much about city dwellers vs those in the suburbs and countryside? Na.

These people just need to mind their own damned business.

Bummer: American’s Interest In Gun Grabbing Policies Drops Bigly

There was a momentary spike in the importance of gun grabbing, but, that has faded

(VOA News) In the wake of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, many Americans said gun control was the most important issue facing the country.

That has changed, despite high profile events like school walk outs and the March for Our Lives protests.

A recent Gallup public opinion poll found those who think gun control is the most important issue dropped from 13 percent, a record, to six percent in just one month.

Now, more Americans think dissatisfaction with government (23 percent), immigration (11 percent) and race relations (seven percent) are all more important than gun control. (snip)

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Gallup found Democrats were twice as likely to think gun violence is among the most important issues compared to Republicans by eight to four percent respectively. Democrats also saw the biggest drop in those saying guns were the top problem, dropping by half in just one month.

Democrat interest in this dropped from 16% in March to just 8% in April. Only 5% of Independents care, and 4% of Republicans.

But, the gun grabbers won’t give up. Illinois is attempting to lead the charge with a whole host of new restrictions. One would have thought they would look towards Chicago to see how well gun grabber laws have worked for the law abiding citizens. One of the big ones is allowing local jurisdictions to make their own laws in contradiction of state law and the state Constitution.

In California they’re looking to expand the places that law abiding citizens may no longer carry a firearm to protect themselves from the criminals the Democratic Party defends and loves.

But, in Vermont, one group is suing over the state’s new gun control laws. What we do know is that Democrats aren’t concerned about criminals, because few of their gun control policies are meant to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals nor punish those who have they and/or use them illegally. Almost all is aimed at the law abiding citizens. Hence why we call it gun grabbing.

Today’s Outrage: Trump Dared To Refer To Illegal Aliens As “Breeding” In Sanctuary Cities

And, according to CNN’s Excitable Z. Byron Wolf in his “analysis” of politics, that’s raaaaacist

Trump blasts ‘breeding’ in sanctuary cities. That’s a racist term.

What exactly did President Donald Trump mean by “breeding” when he tweeted Wednesday about cities that will not cooperate with the federal government to deport the undocumented.

This is Donald Trump. He meant exactly what you think.

The tweet, offered Wednesday morning, argued that Californians prefer his hard-line policies to those of Gov. Jerry Brown.

“There is a Revolution going on in California. Soooo many Sanctuary areas want OUT of this ridiculous, crime infested & breeding concept. Jerry Brown is trying to back out of the National Guard at the Border, but the people of the State are not happy. Want Security & Safety NOW!” (snip)

What exactly does he mean by “breeding concept?” It appears to be a new addition to his rhetoric on immigration. He doesn’t appear to have used it before on Twitter or in recent public remarks on sanctuary cities.

There is great danger in trying to dissect every word of a Trump tweet, but in this case it is worth trying to figure out. CNN has reached out to the White House to figure out exactly what he meant.

There’s a great danger in to attempting to impart Leftist dogma into a single tweet, but, if you ever wondered why Trump continues to use the heck out of Twitter, this is one big reason why: it drives Leftists bat guano insane.

Taken literally, the most likely explanation is that he’s talking about sanctuary cities as places where undocumented immigrants breed.

If that’s right, there’s a racial undertone in the comment should slap you in the face.

Fear of immigrants from certain countries “breeding” has been a staple of nativist thought for hundreds of years. The “breeding” fear has been affixed to Jews from Eastern Europe, Catholics from Ireland and Italy, Chinese and, now, Latinos, Filipinos, Africans and Haitians. This is dog-whistle politics at its worst.

This line of moonbattery goes on and on an on. Because this is literally all they have. Unhinged feelings and apoplexy. They have no coherent, cogent, rational, adult, law based reasons why we shouldn’t kick the majority of illegals out of the country. Leftists want illegals to breed, because they can then use the children as human shields for their talking points.

CNN wasn’t the only one freaking out. At The Root, a Black Supremacist website, they say that it invokes “white supremacist rhetoric.” Perhaps they missed this California poll

An overwhelming majority of Californians want to deport more illegal immigrants, and nearly half support President Donald Trump’s travel ban aimed at reducing terrorism, according to a new survey from the University of California at Berkeley’s Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society. (snip)

Meanwhile, “59% find it important to increase deportations of those here without documentation.” Nearly 80 percent, however, support a pathway to citizenship for so-called DREAMers, and “67% think undocumented immigrants should be able to purchase health insurance on the California state exchange.”

A mixed bag, but, getting 59% to support increased deportations in California? Yowza.

Colorado Counties Become Next Places Exxon, Suncor Should Refuse To Sell Their Products

Funny that all these governments that use vast amounts of fossil fuels which they refuse to give up are sue happy

(US News) Boulder and San Miguel counties in Colorado are suing ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy for their effects on the environment and their negative contributions to climate change.

Up until this point climate change lawsuits have been limited to coastal cities worried about sea level rise. However, these Colorado cities say they are feeling the negative effects of climate change, too, namely when it comes to snow loss.

“These impacts have already harmed Plaintiffs’ property and impacted the health, safety and welfare [of] their residents. The damages will only multiply as climate change worsens,” the lawsuit reads.

The lawsuit claims “that fossil fuel combustion was causing a dramatic rise in the concentration of GHGs in the atmosphere,” which causes “significant temperature changes” and “dramatic climatic changes.” Because of the increase in temperature, there is dwindling snowpack in the state, which is vital for Colorado’s agriculture, water supply and $5 billion ski industry.

If the products of these fossil fuels companies are so dangerous, why haven’t these counties given them up? Change their entire fleet of vehicles to non-fossil fuels ones. No use of fossil fuels for energy. Mandate the end of fossil fueled vehicles in their counties. Shut down the airports. Really, this is just a shakedown from climate scammers.

The lawsuit’s goal is not to stop or regulate the production of fossil fuels in Colorado. The plaintiffs are asking the companies “help remediate the nuisance caused by their intentional, reckless and negligent conduct, specifically by paying their share of the Plaintiffs’ abatement costs.”

These include costs related to damages from wildfires, flood control efforts, healthcare expenses and loss of land value.

See? They just want money. Both companies should start be refusing to sell their products to the governments.

Super Warmist California Has 8 Of 10 Most Polluted Air Cities

California has some of the most restrictive laws on fossil fueled vehicles in the country, and the world. They have tons and tons of ‘climate change’ laws, rules, and regulations. Yet….

(USA Today) Forget the Golden State. California should be called the Smoggy State.

Eight of the USA’s 10 most polluted cities, in terms of ozone pollution, are in California, according to the American Lung Association‘s annual “State of the Air” report, released Wednesday.

The Los Angeles/Long Beach area took the dubious distinction of being the nation’s most ozone-polluted city as it has for nearly the entire 19-year history of the report. (snip)

Bakersfield, Calif., was in second place for ozone pollution. Other California cities on the list include Fresno, Sacramento and San Diego. The only non-California metro areas in the top 10 list were Phoenix and New York City.

Of the 10 most polluted cities, seven cities did worse in this year’s report, including Los Angeles and the New York City metro area.

Well, that’s weird. Of course we’re going to get

“Near record-setting heat from our changing climate has resulted in dangerous levels of ozone in many cities across the country, making ozone an urgent health threat for millions of Americans,” Lung Association president and CEO Harold P. Wimmer said.

Smog forms on warm, sunny days and is made worse from the chemicals that come out of vehicle tailpipes and from power plant and industrial smokestacks. Warmer temperatures make ozone more likely to form.

I think it’s time to ban all fossil fueled vehicles, power plants, chemical plants, etc, everything that contributes to the output of NOx and VOC (volatile organic compounds) in California.

Kiddies Plan Walkouts Friday, Wake County Group Wants To Ban All Semi-Automatic Weapons

It’s great when they they tell us their actual agenda by accident

(Raleigh News and Observer) Students across the nation plan to keep up the pressure for tougher gun laws with school walkouts and rallies Friday, including an event that’s expected to bring hundreds of people to downtown Raleigh.

Students are planning to walk out of class at 10 a.m. Friday in more than 2,000 events nationally, including several in North Carolina, as part of the National School Walkout. But once the school day ends, organizers of the Why Wake Walks event plan to mobilize students from different Wake County high schools to come to Raleigh to show state lawmakers they’re serious about pushing for gun reform.

“We want to put pressure on legislators to show that we’re serious,” said Lily Levin, 17, a junior at Cary Academy and one of the organizers of Why Wake Walks. “Once we get old enough to vote, we’re going to vote people out who support the NRA (National Rifle Association) and oppose gun reform.”

First, you have to wonder how many will return to class, and why this is even being allowed. The schools have a responsibility to these children, and if any are hurt or commit crimes, the schools are on the hook. Second, no, you won’t vote. We keep hearing about the young people vote, and how this and that and the other will get them to put down the video games and selfie sticks and get out there, but, they don’t.

Here’s where it gets interesting, way, way down in the article

U.S. Rep. David Price is scheduled to speak at the event, where people will talk about Why Wake Walk’s platform, which includes comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases and banning “bump stocks,” attachments that can make semi-automatic weapons fire faster. The platform also says the group wants “semi-automatic weapons illegal to civilians,” but Levin said they’re talking about weapons like AR-15 rifles and not handguns..

“We’re not here to repeal the Second Amendment,” Levin said. “We just want to reform the gun laws in place. The research shows that the U.S. has more gun deaths than other first world countries, and it’s directly correlated to these gun laws.”

See, David Price, a Democrat (and I’m unfortunately in his district), realizes that the WWW platform is problematic (I’ve saved the whole thing to the documents folder). Under the bump stocks section

Bump stocks turn semi-automatic rifles into “near-automatic rifles.”
How they work: “A bump stock is a piece of plastic or metal molded to the lower end of a rifle. The device allows a shooter to fire dozens of rounds in seconds by harnessing the gun’s natural recoil. A rifle with this type of mechanism is optimal with a high-capacity magazine that can hold between 60 and 100 rounds and a hand grip that allows a shooter to push the rifle away from the body to bounce, or bump, the weapon into the trigger finger.” For more information, click here

Semi-automatic weapons are STILL legal, and so are automatic weapons made before 1986. Additionally, with the use of bump stocks, semi-automatics can become even more lethal.

Sure makes it appear as if they have a problem with all semi-automatics, but, no, automatics have been mostly illegal since the 1930’s. (but, yes, I do support banning bump stocks). Here’s the kicker

Semi-automatic weapons illegal to civilians
These weapons have again and again been used in mass shootings, from Sandy Hook to San Bernadino to Marjory Stoneman Douglas. They are not reasonable weapons for CIVILIAN defense. For more information, click here

Price may be saying that it’s only the scary looking weapons they want to ban, but the screed says different. They’ve had plenty of time to change this, and haven’t. They went to great lengths to research much of the rest of the platform, are we to think that they just forgot this part?
