AP: You Know, There Were Some Reports Of Anti-Semitism On Campus, Which Could Lead To Shutting Down Camps

You have to love the Credentialed Media: they make it sound like there were some rumors and some people making claims, despite numerous actual videos, speeches, and signs. Oh, and calling the protesters anti-war, even though so many are hoping for the destruction of Israel

Anti-war protesters dig in as some schools close encampments after reports of antisemitic activity

As students protesting the Israel-Hamas war at college campuses across U.S. dug in Saturday and dozens of demonstrators were arrested, some universities moved to shut down encampments after reports of antisemitic activity.

With the death toll mounting in the war in Gaza, protesters nationwide are demanding that schools cut financial ties to Israel and divest from companies they say are enabling the conflict. Some Jewish students say the protests have veered into antisemitism and made them afraid to set foot on campus.

As workers pulled down tents and bagged up the debris from the encampment, several dozen people across from the encampment chanted, “Let the Kids Go,” and slogans against the war in Gaza. They also booed as police cars passed and taunted the officers who stood guard over the encampment.

Just some slogans, eh?

The Usual Suspects are trying to blame this on Jews saying this, but, that’s BS, and this stuff was going on at the school and so many others

At the University of Pennsylvania on Friday, interim President J. Larry Jameson called for an encampment of protesters on the west Philadelphia campus to be disbanded, saying it violates the university’s facilities policies, though about 40 tents remained in place Saturday morning.

The “harassing and intimidating comments and actions” by some protesters violate the school’s open expression guidelines as well as state and federal law, Jameson said, and vandalism of a statue with antisemitic graffiti was “especially reprehensible and will be investigated as a hate crime.”

It’s like the schools, and especially the AP, are trying to minimize this

(Breitbart) On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” Professor of Marketing at NYU Stern School of Business Scott Galloway stated that there’s a “striking” “double standard” in the treatment of campus demonstrations over the past week and stated that if he did the same thing to black students, “we’d call in the f*cking National Guard.” And “what is clear to me is that free speech is at its freest when it’s hate speech against Jews.”

Galloway said, “The double standard here is pretty striking. Dylann Roof goes into a Charleston church and kills nine members of a black church, if I went down to the plaza of any of these universities with a white hood, a Confederate flag, and signs and started saying, globalize Dylann, kill black people, there’d be no need for context, we wouldn’t be talking about free speech, I’d be out of academia. And if I whipped up students into a frenzy such that we started harassing non-white students on their way to the library and I started getting in their face or even throwing things at them — and that has happened — we wouldn’t be having a conversation about the First Amendment, we’d call in the f*cking National Guard. And what is clear to me is that free speech is at its freest when it’s hate speech against Jews.”

So far, all there’s been is some “we’re very disappointed” yammering, maybe a bit of “shame on yous”, but, few in government and the powers that be have slammed down on these folks. Once you call for killing and destruction you’ve abandoned free speech. Once you’ve done this and harassed and attacked Jewish students you no longer have the right to protest, because you’re not peaceable. This is going to backfire spectacularly on Democrats, who are going to look towards these folks for votes.

NY Times Excited To Give “Conservative” Warmists Platform

We are seeing more of this, Gen Z Republicans who are thrilled to Do Something about ‘climate change’, but, failing to explain why the current warm period is mostly/solely caused by Mankind

I’m a Young Conservative, and I Want My Party to Lead the Fight Against Climate Change

Conservatives were once America’s environmental champions. Not that long ago, Republican presidents were carrying out the Clean Air and Water Acts, creating the Environmental Protection Agency, expanding the National Park System and even initiating the country’s most authoritative report on climate change, the National Climate Assessment.

But times have changed.

Many of today’s Republican leaders stoke fear and anger by mocking the most divisive climate activists while claiming that every environmental solution is a radical one. If they’re not doing that, Republicans can often be found on the sidelines and disengaged from the issue completely.

And therein is the issue: ‘climate change’ is a political issue, and mostly separate from actual environmental issue

Instead of continuing the environmental legacy they were once known for, they have ceded the fight against climate change to Democrats, putting themselves on the wrong side of history. Not a single Republican voted in 2022 for the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that is funneling hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds to red states and blue states alike for climate mitigation and resilience projects. And it has cost them: A recent working paper from the University of Colorado, Boulder, found that opinion on climate change was one of the strongest predictors of whom independents voted for in 2020, probably giving President Biden enough of an edge to tip the election in his favor. In other words, Donald Trump’s denial of climate change probably cost him the White House.

Once you’ve gone and defended the horrendous IRA, which hasn’t helped reduce inflation and is, instead, increasing the cost of living for Americans via ‘climate change’ mambo pambo, you’ve moved more to the Democrats position of Big Government. And citing a paper from an uber-leftist group which is also part of the climate cult to say this is why Trump lost is deluded.

The fact of the matter is this: We cannot address climate change or solve any other environmental issue without the buy-in and leadership of conservative America. And there are clear opportunities for climate action that conservatives can champion without sacrificing core values, from sustainable agriculture to nuclear energy and the onshoring of clean energy production.

So, basically we must listen to the Elites, who will tell the peasants what to do. Does that sound like American conservatism?

As a member of Gen Z, I believe it’s time for my generation to mobilize around climate solutions that bring both sides to the table — and demand our leaders do the same. Liberals must stop denigrating and abandoning key communities they need to solve the problem, and conservatives must stop denying the problem and take ownership of climate solutions. If the Republican Party wants to expand its coalition, it will need to recruit young voters with a far more pragmatic message.

Which is? I’m still waiting for actual ideas

This environmental movement will look slightly different from what the Democrats have built. We firmly believe fossil fuels must be part of our transition to cleaner energy sources for years to come. So our movement will aim to improve the environmental impact of all energy sources, not just wind and solar. We’ll also focus on ecosystem restoration and other conservation measures that lower emissions. And we’ll call on policymakers to prioritize permitting reform, reducing government overreach and making it easier to build clean energy projects in the United States more quickly.

Scam. No matter how you slice it, “solving” global boiling requires government dictates and decrees, forcing citizens to act in a certain way, limit what they can buy and drive, controlling their lives. That’s not American Conservatism. You want to talk real environmental issues, great! The climate scam? No.

Bidenflation Makes Rate Cut From Feds Unlikely Anytime Soon

Despite the musings from Biden, his people, and the Credentialed Media that inflation is no big deal and “coming down”, the people who actually know about this stuff know the truth

New inflation reading reinforces Fed’s higher-for-longer stance

Another hot inflation reading reinforces that any near-term interest rate cuts are less likely as the Federal Reserve shifts to a higher-for-longer stance.

The Fed’s preferred inflation measure — the “core” Personal Consumption Expenditures index that excludes volatile food and energy prices — clocked in at 2.8% year over year for the month of March. That was the same level as February but a tenth of a percent higher than expected.

Month over month, the measure of inflation rose 0.3%, which was in line with expectations.

“Today’s data means that it will take a longer string of months of good inflation data before the Fed will be comfortable with cutting,” said Preston Caldwell, chief US economist at Morningstar.

While the rate of inflation is certainly less than it had been, inflation is still much higher than when Trump left office and Biden took office (and inflation immediately skyrocketed). But, consider that if you’re adding 2.8% to a product that is already much higher than pre-Biden, that adds quite a bit to the price. It doesn’t seem like much, but, take a product that was $2. Six percent inflation makes it $2.12. Add 2.8% and you now add another 6 cents. Doesn’t seem like much money, right, but, now add this via all the inflationary increases, and a can of Progresso soup costs around $2.50 when it had been under $1.60 before Bidenflation.

And then add all these inflationary increases to bigger ticket items. And that most things have gone up, meaning the entire cost of living has jump up. And there doesn’t seem to be much relief in sight, and interest rates will stay high

Before last week, investors were still looking at a rate cut in July, while now the odds are 66% that the central bank will hold rates steady that month.

Cutting rates in July “seems a bridge too far now, unless we see both inflation return to 2% in coming months along with a marked deterioration in the economic activity data,” Caldwell added.

Will the Fed try and find an excuse to cut rates to help Biden’s re-election? That’s a question that must be asked. It should also be asked why the Fed waiting way too long to increase rates when it was clear that post-COVID buying was at least back to normal but product availability was not, especially with big money items like vehicles and homes. Then stopped raising rates too early, and then started yammering about cutting them early.

Your Fault: Worst Wine Harvest In 62 Years Blamed On Climate Doom

Worst wine harvest in 62 years blamed on ‘extreme’ weather and climate change

Global wine production reached a historic low in 2023 and climate change could be to blame, a new report has revealed.

The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) says the drink hit its lowest level since 1962. This intergovernmental organisation has 50 member states, representing 75 per cent of the world’s vineyard area.

Experts blame “extreme environmental conditions” including droughts and fires that have been driving the downward trend in production.

Though climate change is not entirely to blame, the OIV says, these conditions are the greatest challenge the industry is facing. Vines are often cultivated in areas around the world that are strongly affected by and incredibly vulnerable to changes in climate.

Oh, so, it’s pretty just natural variability and other factors, rather than Mankind dooming the planet with boiling temperatures.

Seriously, everything is doom and gloom with these people. Weather changes. It’s not exactly the same every year. And, the Earth goes through warming periods, just like cooling ones. And micro-cooling ones, just like what was happening in 1962. The British were growing fantastic wine during the Medieval Climate Optimum while the French were having issues. These Warmists are almost as bad as flat Earthers.

Major March Against Anti-Semitism In UK Cancelled Due To Threats

Funny how the pro-Hamas marches do not have to be cancelled from threats, eh?

Major UK anti-antisemitism march canceled over threats, policing concerns

Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), a charity in the United Kingdom, announced on Friday that they were forced to cancel their Saturday Walk Together march after threats caused concerns for participant safety.

The march would have seen large numbers of observant Jews walk for hours on Shabbat to demonstrate against antisemitism and the repeated scenes of pro-Hamas rhetoric during the weekly pro-Palestinian marches.

CAA Director CEO Gideon Falter made headlines last week, when a Metropolitan Police officer threatened to arrest him for being “openly Jewish” near a pro-Palestinian march. The policeman claimed that Falter’s presence may antagonize the protesters. (snip)

“Due to the thousands of people now intending to join and then walk where they please – something that we used to take for granted in London as Jewish people without having to discuss with police ahead of time – we still do not have confidence that people would be safe,” CAA explained.

The decision came in the wake of numerous threats and the organization claimed to have identified “hostile actors who seem to have intended to come to any meeting locations that we announced.”

So, you have two things going on: incoherent and hostile decrees by the police and threats from the pro-Hamas folks. And you know that it’s not all the Muslim immigrants let into the UK, but, hardcore Leftists who have been taught to hate Israel and Jews. Winston Churchill and other previous leaders would be disgusted with the hatred of Jews and Israel by British citizens, as well as how the country is importing the means of turning the nation in an hotbed of Islamic extremism.

And here in the U.S.

That would be Khymani James, who even the NY Times couldn’t figure out a way to defend. If the GOP had any cajones they’d move to boot Islamic terrorism supporter and Jew hater Ilham Omar from Congress. They booted George Santos for less. And, if the citizens in AOC’s district had any self respect, especially those who are Jewish, they’d vote against her this Fall, as she visited the anti-Jew protest.

4.3 Million Workers About To Learn That Demanding OT Doesn’t Always Work Out Like They Expect

In fairness, there certainly are issues with deeming some employees as “exempt”, meaning they are salaried and cannot get OT. Some companies will deem supervisors at the low end exempt to avoid paying them OT when they do not really have much in the way of power. Still, this may not go well

4.3 million more workers will soon get OT pay. Here’s who qualifies.

About 4.3 million U.S. workers who previously didn’t qualify for overtime pay could soon receive time-and-a-half for working more than 40 hours a week thanks to a new rule from the Biden administration.

The U.S. Department of Labor on Tuesday unveiled a new rule that will extend overtime pay to salaried workers who earn less than $1,128 per week, or $58,656 annually. Previously, only workers who made $684 or less each week, or $35,568 annually, were eligible for OT.

Businesses are required to pay workers 1.5 times their pay if they work more than 40 hours a week, but that protection has been limited to hourly workers and lower-earning salaried employees. Because of the salary cutoff, many salaried workers were performing the same duties as their hourly coworkers, but weren’t able to qualify for overtime, Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su said in a statement.

Most who are making $58K annually really do have supervisory status, and shouldn’t qualify for OT. They knew what they were getting into when they took the job. They knew they could, and probably would, be working over 40 hours a week. Going forward, companies could scale that pay back and refuse to let them work more than 40 hours a week.

The new rule could result in an additional $1.5 billion in pay for employees, according to an estimate from the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank.

“Employers will be more than able to adjust to the rule without negatively impacting the overall economy,” wrote EPI director of government affairs and advocacy Samantha Sanders and President Heidi Shierholz.

Well, it’s easy to say for people who aren’t having to run a business and make payroll, eh?

Who won’t qualify for OT?

First, overtime pay isn’t available to salaried workers who are considered “executive, administrative or professional” employees.

That makes sense

Some researchers have pointed out that corporations give fake titles to low-ranking workers like “grooming manager” for a barber in order to make them appear like managers.

The new rule stipulates that only “bona fide” executive, administrative or professional employees are exempt from the expanded OT rule.

I do agree with that. But, really, how many of these folks are actually working 20-30 hours extra a week? That seems extreme and very rare.

Some industry groups are pushing back against the overtime rule, saying that it will harm their operations and lead to job cuts. Some are also threatening legal action.

“We fear many hoteliers will have no option other than to eliminate managerial jobs that are long-established paths to advancement,” American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) interim President Kevin Carey in a statement. “AHLA is reviewing all available options, including litigation, for defeating this ill-advised regulation.”

This rule is mostly about pandering to workers in order to receive votes, with no consideration of the consequences, as passed by people who mostly never worked in the private sector and never ran a business. Those 4M workers are about to go from salaried to hourly positions and have their hours cut under 40 per week which will end up being a massive pay cut. Bidenomics.
