Grist: Ditch The Fireworks In Favor Of Lightning Bugs For A Green Fourth

I purposefully ignored any globull warming stories leading up to and on the Fourth Of July because, quite frankly, I started to get really pissed off every time I ran across one. Sometimes the Warmist bullshit is just too much to deal with. They always want to ruin it for other people. Like this: The greenest Fourth of July

Every part of the early experience was fired by gasoline, powered by petroleum, or involved gunpowder and various chemicals. Quick flashes of light are created from the pop of gunpowder and the eye-burning bright flash from burning magnesium powder. Green colors are from powdered copper that is impregnated on paper that is wrapped into the firework. As the fuse burns the fire encounters each of the impregnated papers, and each gives off the various colors as they ignite, associated with the unique color of each element as it combusts. Cobalt for dark blue; copper for greens and red; and so on.

So, fireworks are evil. What should you do instead?

In a time when energy conservation and reduced emissions of atmospheric gasses is important, celebrating the Fourth — or the joy of any other midsummer evening — is possible by seeking out lightning bug displays. After the children begin skirmishing and boredom sets in at the fireworks show, or you find yourself looking for a few moments of quiet, find a secluded field and enjoy a truly green fireworks display.

This people are truly jerks.

Obama Uses Military Naturalization Ceremony To Push DREAM Act

Pathetic, just pathetic. (NMP) Obama can’t even let this fine folks have their day without turning it political

(NY Times) President for half the country Obama for a fourth straight Fourth of July joined with military families to eat barbecue and watch fireworks from the White House lawn, but this year he also began the day with active-duty service members, presiding at a citizenship ceremony that made 25 of them new Americans.

The naturalization event on Wednesday in the ornate East Room, which was packed with the service members’ families and friends, was the third such ceremony in the Obama White House but the first on Independence Day.

“Happy Fourth of July,” Mr. Obama said. “What a perfect way to celebrate America’s birthday — the world’s oldest democracy, with some of our newest citizens.”

It is fantastic, something which presidents have been involved in for a long, long time. We welcome these fine folks into our fold as full American citizens with all the rights, duties, and privileges that come with being a US citizen. Then Obama had to do this

“Just as we remain a nation of laws, we have to remain a nation of immigrants,” Mr. Obama said. “And that’s why, as another step forward, we’re lifting the shadow of deportation from deserving young people who were brought to this country as children. It’s why we still need a Dream Act — to keep talented young people who want to contribute to our society and serve our country.

“It’s why we need — why America’s success demands — comprehensive immigration reform.”

I hear stuff like that on the radio and I want to punch it. They ceremony was about these troops, not about Obama’s amnesty policies for illegal aliens, which, really, is a slap in the face to those involved in the ceremony

All of the new citizens had been in the country legally; residents here illegally cannot join the military. They benefited from a legal fast track that shortens the naturalization process for service members in wartime to a few weeks, according to administration officials.

So, during a ceremony for people who came here legally, joined the military legally, and were fast tracked for citizenship, Obama just had to speak out and say we should give those who came here illegally the same chance. Pathetic.

Simulus Funded Nevada Geothermal Close To Going Bust

Back on June 26th, Obama cheerleading The Politico was rating “green” companies that received DOE loans, and determined that Nevada Geothermal Power (NGP) as a “mixed bag”

Nevada Geothermal: The company’s Blue Mountain project in northern Nevada received a partial loan guarantee for $98.5 million in 2010. The project is already generating power, but production levels have declined because the temperature of the rock formation the company tapped into has fallen unexpectedly. In SEC filings, Nevada Geothermal says it is working to resolve the problem. A pump failure in March was also a financial setback for the plant. In October, The New York Times highlighted the company’s financial problems and quoted an auditor’s pessimism about Nevada Geothermal’s ability to continue operating.

Not much of a mixed bag, but, we all understand that most media outlets work hard to protect Obama. Well, we’ve moved from “pessimism” to close to shutting down

(Washington Times) A geothermal energy company with a $98.5 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration for an alternative energy project in Nevada – which received hearty endorsements from Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid – faces financial problems, and the company’s auditors have questioned whether it can stay in business.

Much like Solyndra LLC, a California solar-panel manufacturer with a $535 million federal loan guarantee that went bankrupt, Nevada Geothermal Power (NGP) has incurred $98 million in net losses over the past several years, has substantial debts and does not generate enough cash from its current operations after debt-service costs, an internal audit said.

“The company’s ability to continue as a going concern is dependent on its available cash and its ability to continue to raise funds to support corporate operations and the development of other properties,” NGP auditors said in a financial statement for the period ending March 31.

“Consequently, material uncertainties exist which cast significant doubt upon the company’s ability to continue as a going concern,” the statement said.

If a company that is supposed to provide a service continuously needs outside money other than profits pumped in to keep it afloat, then it’s time to just let it go. The DOE loan guarantee served to prop up a previous loan from TCW Asset Management Co., rather than being a loan which could be generously be termed “seed money.” The whole “green energy” boondoggle is much like what was happening in the late 1990’s right before the big DotCom implosion: companies with no viable product and/or no way to make a profit and operate off those profits were constantly given money by investors to continue operating until the eventual big crash.

This is also the Air America radio model: they saw big outside money pumped in for political purposes, constantly expanding their market to cities around the country, never seeing viable operating cash flow in and always relying on that same outside money, till eventually their broadcasts started being dumped and replaced by programs advising people on how to power wash their decks (which got higher ratings) and going bankrupt in January 2010, ceasing all operations. And it looks like this is the way so many “green energy” companies are going.

NGP said it will hold its annual shareholders meeting July 24 in Vancouver, British Columbia, during which Mr. Fairbank is expected to discuss the firm’s debts, a recapitalization plan and steps that have been taken to reduce operating costs, including ending its registration and over-the-counter listings in the United States to eliminate the costs of Securities and Exchange Commission reporting requirements.

Sounds more like they are attempting to avoid having to show just how bad they’re doing.

The Lonely Conservative: It’s getting hard to keep track of all of the failed and failing “green” companies the government has “invested” in since President Obama took power.

More: some folks are wondering about donations to Obama from NGP. Well, even though the Nevada office of NGP is a “US wholly-owned subsidiary“, the company is actually Canadian, running out of Vancouver. So, with all due respect to Canada, the Obama admin. gave money to a foreign company which created no jobs. But

Since Nevada Geothermal’s parent corporation is based in Canada, it would be unusual to see political contributions from the company’s executives to American candidates. But the Center for Responsive Politics also reports that Nevada Geothermal vice president of development and operations Max Walensiak donated $500 to Harry Reid’s successful Senate re-election campaign.

Kai Anderson, a lobbyist for Nevada Geothermal’s partner corporation, Ormat Technology, is a former Senate aide to Harry Reid. Ormat’s CEO Paul Thomsen is another former Reid aide.

I’ve tried running the names of NGP’s team through Open Secrets, haven’t found anything. So, to be fair, it looks like NGP may be part of the 20% of “green” loan recipients who weren’t Obama donors.

Google Uses Socialist Song For Independence Day

After all the other craziness and anti-American, anti-military, ant-Christmas, etc that Google has used in the past, is anyone surprised by this?

That song was written because Woody Guthrie, an avowed Communist who despised the song God Bless America, in response for that hatred. It’s a protest song about how mean and evil America is. It’s anti-capitalist. Hey, don’t take my word for it: ask the Socialists.

DHS Study Brands Those Who Believe In Individual Liberty As Terrorists

The study isn’t particularly new, at least in terms of today’s media. It was authored back in January, but it is just hitting the public domain

(The Blaze) Are you “reverent of individual liberty?“ Are you ”suspicious of centralized federal authority?“ Do you think there is a ”grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty?”

Well, then you fall into the category of “extreme right-wing” terrorist, according to a new study out of the University of Maryland, which was funded in part by the Department of Homeland Security.

The study, titled “Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the United States, 1970-2008,” was conducted by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the university. The organization has received roughly $12 million from DHS and is set to get another $3.6 million in future funding. It is also listed as one of DHS’s “Centers for Excellence” on the agency’s website.

Happy July 4th, you extreme right wing terrorists. How dare you love personal liberty. Just because we fought a war for independence from the tyranny of a monarchy which took away our personal liberty and enshrined that in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill Of Rights is no reason to stick with those old fashioned ideas.

As Inforwars goes on to point out

The report takes its definitions from a 2011 study entitled Profiles of Perpetrators of Terrorism, produced by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, in which the following characteristics are used to identify terrorists.

  • – Americans who believe their “way of life” is under attack;
  • – Americans who are “fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)”;
  • – People who consider themselves “anti-global” (presumably those who are wary of the loss of American sovereignty);
  • – Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority”;
  • – Americans who are “reverent of individual liberty”;
  • – People who “believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty.”

Fortunately, real terrorists aren’t mentioned

(Infowars) While largely omitting Islamic terrorism - the report fails completely to mention the 1993 World Trade Center bombing – the study focuses on Americans who hold beliefs shared by the vast majority of conservatives and libertarians and puts them in the context of radical extremism.

(The Blaze) Interestingly, in an oversight that is not explained, the report barely mentions radical Islam. Instead the study lumps religious terrorist groups into one category and describes them as “groups that seen to smite the purported enemies of God and other evildoers, impose strict religious tenants or laws on society (fundamentalists), forcibly insert religion into the political sphere.”

Oregon Town Cancels Fireworks So Birds Are Not Scared

Interesting. Oregon doesn’t seem to mind killing thousands of birds each year from all the wind turbines located around the state, and actually asked for permission to not be held responsible for killing Golden Eagles. But, scaring them? Bad mojo

(Fox News) An Oregon town has reportedly canceled its annual fireworks show out of concern the Fourth of July pyrotechnics will scare sea birds roosting nearby.

Town officials in Depoe Bay have announced the cancellation of the annual pre-Independence Day fireworks show on July 3 following pressure from federal wildlife managers who said the noise disrupts sea birds in the area, the Oregonian reports.

They’ve been holding the display since 1993, and do it on the 3rd so as to avoid competition with better funded displays.More from the Oregonian

Then, in 2010, a Depoe Bay resident contacted the federal wildlife service and reported seeing seabirds nesting at Pirates Cove take flight during the fireworks.

Just to be clear, I have nothing to do with this. But, the envirowackos performed some sort of study, watching what happens to the birds, and concluded that fireworks were mean.

But because the location where the fireworks are launched is on state park land, state officials were warned they could be liable for violating the 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act, a federal law that makes it illegal to harm or kill protected bird species.

When Oregon Parks and Recreation decided not to issue a permit for the event this year, the city had no choice but to cancel.

So, it’s not really the fault of Depoe Bay, but the state weenies, who still haven’t shut down the mostly useless wind turbines which are a blot on the landscape and kill lots of birds, including endangered eagles. Fortunately for Depoe Bay, the ruling has protected them from making lots of money due to people cancelling their plans to come visit on the 3rd for the fireworks display, because we all know that making money is a bad idea in today’s America.

If you want a glimpse of some of the worst of global warming, scientists suggest taking a look at U.S. weather in recent weeks.

Yada yada yada. We’ve already been through all this sort of silliness so many times when Warmists said “cold weather is no proof against anthropogenic global warming: it’s simply weather” (at least until they figured out how to blame “climate change” for cold and snow), but still blamed every hot day, thunderstorm, tornado, and hurricane on some guy named Al who drives a big gas guzzling limo. We could talk about all the failures of the climate models and so on, but, what about

I’m rather repeating myself to some degree from this morning, but, that’s what global warming legislation looks like. Power outages. People without AC (and heating, as we saw in Britain and much of Europe/West Asia this winter). Rolling brownouts and blackouts. Power stations unable to hold the power load, because there are too few coal plants trying to provide the peak power not being provided by solar and wind.

NC Democrat Hits Wrong Button, Passes NC Fracking Veto Over-ride

The Lonely Conservative goes with “LOL!” I have to go with “bwahahahahahahahahah-snort-hahahahahaha!”

(WRAL) State House lawmakers have apparently accidentally legalized fracking in North Carolina, due to a deciding vote one Democrat says was a mistake.

Rep. Becky Carney, D-Mecklenburg, says she did not intend to cast the key vote that overrode the governor’s veto of the bill.

The vote was 72-47, exactly the number needed for an override. Without Carney’s vote, the veto would have been sustained.

Carney characterized her vote as “very accidental.” (snip)

Under House rules, members can change their vote if they’ve made a mistake – unless the change would affect the bill’s passage

Obviously, Democrats pitched a hissy fit

Carney tried to reverse her vote but Republicans blocked it. Democrats called the move “disgraceful.”

No, disgraceful was the way Obamacare was passed.

House Speaker Thom Tillis said he was comfortable with the process. “There’s a green button and a red button; they should know which one to push,” he said.

You’d think that would be easy to understand, but, we are talking about Democrats.
