Obama Refuses To Waive Stafford Act Post Hurricane Issac

Obama has presided over what has been very few natural disasters. There have been few monster tornado outbreaks, a few big floods, and just one hurricane (barely) to make landfall on the continental United States. And how does he treat it? Well, hypocritically, of course

(Daily Caller) President Barack Obama has refused to extend to victims of Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana the same relief he criticized former President George W. Bush for withholding from New Orleans residents in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The move has frustrated state and local politicians and contradicts his own campaign rhetoric about disaster relief from just one election cycle ago.

In a fiery 2007 speech at Hampton University unveiled last week exclusively by The Daily Caller, Obama excoriated the Bush administration for supposedly refusing to waive requirements of the Stafford Act, which requires disaster victims to repay the federal government for emergency assistance, after Katrina struck the Gulf Coast.

“What’s happening down in New Orleans?” Obama shouted during the speech, which was recorded at the Virginia university in June of 2007. “Where’s your dollar? Where’s your Stafford Act Money? Makes no sense! It tells me, the people down in New Orleans, they don’t care about as much!”

And let’s not forget that Obama himself voted against waiving the Stafford Act, just one of 14 Senators to do so, despite that fiery rhetoric.

According to Louisiana Republican Rep. Steve Scalise, the president has responded to the August landfall of Hurricane Isaac, which devastated several parishes in Louisiana, by requiring local governments to provide the maximum allowable 25 percent matching funds to receive their federal aid, instead of the 10 percent match that served as the Bush administration’s guideline in the aftermath of Katrina.

“St. John the Baptist Parish was inundated by Isaac’s storm surge. President Obama visited the parish, held a press conference there and toured the devastation,” Jindal added. “Yet, he is still relying on this parish, and all other impacted parishes, to pick up 25 percent of the cost and refuses to make any adjustment allowed under the Stafford Act.”

I’m not going to get into the notion that the federal government shouldn’t be there to bail out everyone who experiences a natural disaster on the back of taxpayers around the country. But, this does highlight that what Obama preaches is often completely divorced from his actions and policy prescriptions.

And, just to be clear, Obama can’t waive the Stafford Act himself. That requires an act of Congress. But, the administration hasn’t asked for a vote on that for Isaac, and is pushing the maximum amount required. The Bush administration went out of their way to cover virtually all costs for the cleanup in New Orleans.

State Department States There Was No Protest Prior To Benghazi Terrorist Attack

So, after 5+ days of blabbering on about this being part of a “spontaneous protest” over some video critical of Mohammed that no one had seen or known about, followed by weeks of “whoops, our bad, it’s actually X”, we now learn

(Foreign Policy) Prior to the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi late in the evening on Sept. 11, there was no protest outside the compound, a senior State Department official confirmed today, contradicting initial administration statements suggesting that the attack was an opportunistic reaction to unrest caused by an anti-Islam video.

In a conference call with reporters Tuesday, two senior State Department officials gave a detailed accounting of the events that lead to the death of Amb. Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The officials said that prior to the massive attack on the Benghazi compound by dozens of militants carrying heavy weaponry, there was no unrest outside the walls of the compound and no protest that anyone inside the compound was aware of.

In fact, Stevens hosted a series of meetings on the compound throughout the day, ending with a meeting with a Turkish diplomat that began at 7:30 in the evening, and all was quiet in the area.

Many have referred to what’s going on as a “cover up”. Others have said “how can it be a cover up when they slowly release information?” This is a classic case of spoon-feeding the info a tiny dose at a time in order to minimize the impact of what actually happened, which is a political way of covering something up.

Essentially, the Obama administration lied from the get go as to what was going on, possibly to cover up their negligence and horrible conduct.

So, now we can add this to the timeline of what has gone on, as well learning that the State Department denied more security personnel, pulled security personnel out despite being told that Benghazi was, you know, a seriously dangerous place for Westerners, and the security personnel were told to stop freaking asking for help.

$150 Million More Pissed Away On Volt

The Obama administration loans for “green” energy have been such a disaster that we have to wonder if anyone will want to invest for decades. Here’s another example

(Fox News) President Obama touted it in 2010 as evidence “manufacturing jobs are coming back to the United States,” but two years later, a Michigan hybrid battery plant built with $150 million in taxpayer funds is putting workers on furlough before a single battery has been produced.

Workers at the Compact Power manufacturing facilities in Holland, Mich., run by LG Chem, have been placed on rotating furloughs, working only three weeks per month based on lack of demand for lithium-ion cells.

The facility, which was opened in July 2010 with a groundbreaking attended by Obama, has yet to produce a single battery for the Chevrolet Volt, the troubled electric car from General Motors. The plant’s batteries also were intended to be used in Ford’s electric Focus.

The plant is owned by a South Korean company, and, even better, the actual batteries in the Chevy Diego, er, Volt, are made by the same company IN S. Korea.

Warmists Launch New European Hotcoldwetdry Campaign

New name, same old tired mule fritters

(BBC) The EU has launched a campaign aimed at showing how low-carbon solutions can improve quality of life.

The European Commission believes that policies to cut greenhouse gases will only work if individuals share the vision of a low-carbon society.

“It’s perhaps been a bit too much doom and gloom in the past on climate,” one official told the BBC at the launch in London. “We are now emphasising the need to inspire people.”

The EU-wide campaign runs until 2014.

Inspire me by showing the world that those who push this nonsense believe it and live carbon neutral lives.

The vision is being transmitted through the Commission’s website world-you-like and also Facebook and Twitter.

This is being pushed by same uber-warmist I mentioned yesterday, Connie Hedegaard, who says

“Our targets for a low-carbon society are not about some distant future. It’s all about jobs. It’s about innovation and competitiveness which we can harness today.”

State Department To Benghazi Security: “Hey, Stop Asking For Help”

(CBS News) One of the men who was in charge of security for U.S. diplomats in Libya says he feared for their safety long before the attack last month on the consulate in Benghazi. Four Americans were killed in the attacks on the Libyan consulate, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.

The concerned military security officer and Army green beret, Lt. Colonel Andrew Wood, will tell his story to Congress on Wednesday.

Wood first set foot in Libya last February to lead an elite, 16-man counterterrorism team. From the moment he arrived, he says he saw chaos.

“Shooting instances occurred, many instances involved the local security guard force that we were training,” he told CBS News. “Constantly, there were battles going on between militias, criminal activity and that became increasing danger as time went on as well.”

Were you aware that a group called the “February 17 Martyrs Brigade” was tasked with being the ones to be called in the event of security breakdown? Doesn’t particularly inspire confidence in the State Department, eh?

Over the six months leading up to the attack on Stevens, Wood says the security situation in Libya deteriorated. There were 13 threats or attacks in Tripoli and Benghazi. Wood says Stevens and his staff made the case for tightened security in emails and diplomatic cables. But one by one lost three State Department security teams, their only airplane and, eventually, Woods’ squad too.

“There was certainly no disconnect in our transfer of information to them,” Woods said. “They were getting the information from the situation on the ground, and we sent it up through State Department cable, and I sent it up to the military side on the DoD side, so there was awareness of what the situation in Libya was about.”

Woods said he and his team became aware that they would not be allowed to stay through cables and draft cables coming back and forth. The State Department was telling the people in Libya not to continue to ask for help.

“The requests were being modified to say, ‘Don’t even ask for DoD support,'” he said.

This is potentially criminal negligence. State had to have known how dangerous the area around Benghazi was. Every reporter in the area, and the Libyan government, knew the dangers, which included criminal activity targeting Westerners and rising Islamic extremist activity, such as al Qaeda. Yet, the US security was told to stop asking for help.

Wednesdays hearings should be interesting.

Bummer: Nickelodeon Upset That Romney Declined To Appear With People Who Can’t Vote

Perhaps Nick’ should be a bit more concerned with a President who decided to campaign the day after our Libyan consulate was attacked and the ambassador was killed, as well as a president who blows off world leaders, including the Israeli P.M., in order to go on The View and be eye candy

(Mediaite) Nickelodeon’s news outfit Nick News is reportedly “disappointed” that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has declined to appear in the channel’s “Kids Pick the President” election special, which airs several weeks before the election.

“After numerous attempts by ‘Nick News’ to get former Governor Mitt Romney to participate in the special, his camp declined saying he was unable to fit it into his schedule,” Nickelodeon said in a press statement.

Last time I checked, “kids” can’t vote.

President Barack Obama will appear, however, having pre-taped his answers to kids’ questions at the White House. As a stand-in for official Romney responses to the kids’ queries, the channel will use archive video clips of the GOP candidate answering similar questions.

So, the president is going to mail it in as usual, and isn’t really “appearing”, either.

“By answering kids’ questions directly, candidates show respect for kids,” added host Linda Ellerbee in the statement. “We are disappointed that Mitt Romney wouldn’t take the time to answer the questions, but are thrilled that President Obama participated in the special.”

I hope the kids have lots of time on their hands to list to the long, rambling, non-sensical answers from Obama. I wonder if any of them asked what was going through PBO’s mind when he decided to pass the Stimulus, mortgaging the kiddies future, not to mention adding over $5 trillion dollars to the deficit in under 4 years, presiding over a period of terrible economic times where the earning power of mom and dad has been stifled, and cost of living is far outpacing earnings.

But, then, kids have more open minds and are less indoctrinated than the average Obama voter.

Dianne Feinstein Wants Investigation of High California Gas Prices

Here we go again. One would think a sitting US Senator would understand some market economics (and the fact that Ca. regulations and taxes artificially inflate the prices), or would at least have someone explain it to her. Alas, no

(Boston Herald) The average price in the state hit $4.668, according to AAA. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., called on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate, saying residents need to be protected from “malicious trading schemes.”

Feinstein in her letter Sunday asked the FTC to determine if the price spike was caused by illegal manipulation of the market and to start monitoring the market for fraud, manipulation, or other malicious trading practices.

“Publically available data appears to confirm that market fundamentals are not to blame for rising gas prices in California,” she wrote

How many times will Democrats try this meme of “Big Oil is trying to screw people”? The outcomes of investigations NEVER upholds the allegations. Even Governor Moonbeam Jerry Brown understands that this is a BS investigation, and is attempting to Do Something by allow the use of winter blend gasoline earlier than usual…..that’s right, allowing. Because the government is too heavily involved in the production of gasoline, hence, a simple power outage can spike what are already super high gas prices.

Again, I usually try and avoid the conspiracy theory websites of Alex Jones, but, they will often have revelant information, such as

What this really reveals is just how close to collapse California’s energy infrastructure really is. And it’s worse than you think, by the way: California can’t import gasoline from neighboring states because its fuel refining requirements are so stringent due to air quality control concerns.

As Nancy Rivera Brooks, the LA Times editor, explained in a recent interview:

Because we have such a clean-burning recipe for gasoline here, very few refineries make it outside California, and there aren’t pipelines that bring it into California from those refineries that can make it. When something goes wrong, you’re stuck with what you’ve got in your tank.

I bet most Californians had no idea the gasoline supply across their entire state depends on a couple of high-voltage wires feeding a single refinery in Torrance. That’s how amazingly fragile California’s energy infrastructure really is. There are no pipelines from other states! When California’s refineries go out, they’re out!

There’s nothing nefarious going on, unless one counts the idiocy of Big Government.

Snap! Warmist Thinks We “Can Create Climate We Like”

I’ve always been a big reader, primarily fiction, and especially science fiction (and zombie books). It’s no wonder I love blogging about hotcoldwetdry when I see stuff like this (via Tom Nelson, of course)

“We have a choice: We can ACT on our knowledge about climate change. Or we can sit idly by and watch as things get worse. Both options come with a price tag. So why not create a world we like, with a climate we like – while we still have time? With this campaign we want to focus the debate on the solutions and find out what is holding us back from applying them,” said Connie Hedegaard.

She’s not some low level warmist lunatic, she’s the European Commissioner for Climate Action, an official program of the European Union.

NY Times Blames US For Libyan Terrorist

Anyone surprised?

(NY Times) One brother joined the global jihad against the West under the nom de guerre Abu Yahya al-Libi. He rose to become Al Qaeda’s brightest star and second in command, until an American drone strike killed him in Pakistan four months ago.

The other brother, Abdel Wahab Mohamed Qaid, was the first to become an Islamist militant but is now a moderate member of Libya’s new Parliament.

As the United States weighs responses to the Islamist-led assault on its diplomatic mission in Benghazi that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Mr. Qaid says the two brothers’ diverging paths trace a timely lesson: a parable of the dangers of treating the many different strands of political Islam as a single radical threat.

Abu Yahya’s support for Al Qaeda, Mr. Qaid said, began after his years as a prisoner at the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan — an account supported by Western analysts who have studied Abu Yahya’s life.

Both brothers had previously shunned Osama Bin Laden and the cause of global jihad as irrelevant to their single-minded focus on ousting the Libyan leader Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. But then, after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the United States-led invasion of Afghanistan, the Americans began rounding up any Islamist militants they could find, regardless of their specific ideology or agenda; Abu Yahya was captured in Pakistan and imprisoned without trial at Bagram.

When he finally escaped in 2005, picking a prison lock and evading his guards, Abu Yahya, originally known as Mohamed Hassan Qaid, was reborn as the leading theologian, propagandist and battlefield commander of an Islamic holy war against the West that left little room for local concerns like the struggle for Libyan democracy.

See? Abu Yahya turned into a lunatic terrorist because he was imprisoned by the evil United States….what was he doing in Pakistan, anyway? Um, consorting with al Qaeda and the Taliban? Because he started hanging in Afghanistan and studying under Islamic extremists back in the early 1990’s, studying Islam under scholars who hung out with ……. al Qaeda and the Taliban, among other extremist groups.

It is stated that “When he returned two years later” [from his Islamic studies in Mauritania, Africa], “Afghanistan was no longer a battleground for militant Libyans, but rather a haven: the Taliban controlled most of the country. Mr. Libi’s training in warfare was minimal, and his early work as a preacher rarely touched on militant action, according to the Libyan man who said he had met Mr. Libi in Afghanistan, and who spoke on condition of anonymity out of security concerns. “He started to visit training camps and talk about Shariah,” or Islamic law, this man said in a telephone interview, about “morals, etiquette, how to act.

Yeah, that excerpt came from the NY Times.

What the Times is also attempting to do is separate violent extremist Islam from those who are pushing political Islam, with notions such as Sharia law. I guess the Times hates women and gays, who are treated like dog sh*t under hardcore Islam.
