Joe Romm’s highly partisan and George Soros funded Think Progress links to a study cited at The Atlantic
How Do You Get Conservatives to Buy Energy Efficient Products?
Why do conservatives, who should have a natural inclination toward conservation, have a beef with energy efficiency? It could be tied to the political polarization of the climate change debate.
A study out in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences examined attitudes about energy efficiency in liberals and conservatives, and found that promoting energy-efficient products and services on the basis of their environmental benefits actually turned conservatives off from picking them. The researchers first quizzed participants on how much they value various benefits of energy efficiency, including reducing carbon emissions, reducing foreign oil dependence, and reducing how much consumers pay for energy; cutting emissions appealed to conservatives the least.
The study then presented participants with a real-world choice: With a fixed amount of money in their wallet, respondents had to “buy” either an old-school light bulb or an efficient compact florescent bulb, the same kind Bachmann railed against. Both bulbs were labeled with basic hard data on their energy use, but without a translation of that into climate pros and cons. When the bulbs cost the same, and even when the CFL cost more, conservatives and liberals were equally likely to buy the efficient bulb. But slap a message on the CFL’s packaging that says “Protect the Environment,” and “we saw a significant drop-off in more politically moderates and conservatives choosing that option,” said study author Dena Gromet, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
First, when do they cost the same? CFLs are typically more expensive, and those that aren’t are complete pieces of garbage.
Second, the study, as well as The Atlantic and Think Progress articles, position this as hating on the environment. What they miss is that it’s not the environment that we have a problem with. It’s not saving energy. We are (for the most part) all for that. We like to save money. We like to protect the environment. I typically choose appliances that are energy and environmentally friendly. I just spent almost $4000 on a new A/C unit that will cut my power by third to a half in the warm months. I bought an energy efficient fridge a few years ago. I typically buy environmentally friendly products like car wash liquid. I don’t litter (can liberals say the same? Every liberal event seems to generate tons of litter). I don’t always recycle, I’m not perfect, but I try.
The problem is that many tune the message of “green” out and purchase non-green because it has become synonymous with ‘climate change’, a made up issue. The Warmists have managed to take real environmental issues and put them under the banner of “climate change”.
Oh, and really, most CFLs stink. I used to like them, but they are a pain, giving out different light by brand. They have mercury. And they suck. I do use them in a few places, but not for my main reading lights.
Double oh, the study shows that Liberals are brain dead sheep who will buy anything their cult leaders tell them to.
They were probably not even sure what they were supposed to be protesting. There was the usual smattering of amnesty, give us someone else’s money, social justice, pro-Palestinian, Israel hatred, communist love, and anti-capitalism signs and rhetoric on view, all on a day originally designed to celebrate spring (except in Colorado, what with all their new snow) but taken over by communists to celebrate international workers day (where they apparently do not bother actually working)
(Fox 13) May Day protests in downtown Seattle Wednesday night turned violent for the second straight year, with protesters throwing rocks, bottles, metal bars at police and others. Police said eight officers were injured, mostly with scrapes and bruises, and 18 people were arrested.
Police used pepper spray and “blast balls†— a small firework-like device that gives of a loud bang, a flash and a dose of pepper — and other devices to drive the crowd of 150 to 200 people back.
Some in the crowd — self-described anarchists — wore masks and bandanas to cover their faces. As they moved into the downtown area, the protesters began chanting, “Let’s go shopping.â€
“They approached the area of Westlake Mall,†said police Capt. Chris Fowler said. “They stopped. It was at that time that we began taking rocks and bottles.â€
Rocks, bottles and metal bars were thrown at police, and windows in at least two businesses were broken.
You have to love the irony of these liberals….call them anarchists all you want, they still vote Democrat…causing harm to the places fellow citizens work and to their motor vehicles. If you head over to the USA Today reprint of the AP story, you’ll see a bunch of unhinged and violent liberals complaining about the way the police responded, without mentioning that maybe these same liberals shouldn’t get unhinged and violent. The Seattle PD live-tweeted the violence from liberals. There were around 16 arrests.
Even those who weren’t violent were unhinged. Here’s a perfect photo, via The Blaze from NRO’s Charles Cook, who spent the day witnessing Occupy Wall Street on May Day

We’ve go it all. Communism, SEIU (purple shirt), an Intifada keffiyeh, pro-amnesty, and an anti-capitalism sign. Oh, and dirty scruffy liberals.
In 2011, the Occupy movement had a distinct lentils-and-patchouli air. Now, it has taken a hard leftward turn. Che, Lenin, Mao, and Chávez all make appearances on signs distributed by a group calling itself the “Red Youth.†Flip their faces over and you’ll find either “Long Live Marxism-Leninism†or the more modern “Long Live Kim Il Sung!†written on the back.
“Down with Capitalism! We need Communist Revolution!†reads another group’s banner. Next to it, “Revolution — Nothing Less!â€
No one should be shocked. And these are the base voters for Obama and the Democrats.

Steven Goddard offers up a nice concise idea
Global warming was a tough one for Obama and the rest of his band of witch burners, because it involved actual metrics – which didn’t pan out.
So they changed their meme to “climate change†which has no metrics, no definition, no theoretical basis, no boundaries, no way to prove or disprove – and they can blame every weather event on it.
And they do blame every weather event on it, hence the reason I call it hotcoldwetdry. They also blame earthquakes and volcanoes on it. Whatever happens, climate change always seems to be in the mix. And when they say “climate change” they mean Mankind is causing it. And virtually everything mankind does causes it, in their warped minds. Except for things they like (even when they are bad for the environment itself, such as producing palm oil for biofuels, making solar panels, and others), and the things they like always seem to revolve around increasing government and instituting far left doctrine.

Over at Grist, David Roberts is pimping a video with the headline “Why climate change is not an environmental problem: The video“. I made the mistake of watching this long discourse which ignores actual science, but, then, ‘climate change’ isn’t about science, it’s about pushing for far left political control.
Here’s what Tom Nelson saw
Video promoted by Grist: “Climate change is arguably the biggest threat modern society has ever faced, with the possible exception of nuclear war…at the very least, it’s bigger than communism, bigger than Al-Qaeda, bigger than fascism, bigger than all of them combined”
As he points out, the money quotes start at the 1:15 mark. And what you get is lots of profanity, some Blame Bush, and really, an overall sense that this issue has nothing to do with the environment. Which it doesn’t. That’s how we can end up with “science” like the Bermuda Triangle Defense, regarding the “missing heat” being in the deep oceans
“Where’s the heat? In the oceans!†USA Today claimed in a headline the same day.
The headlines reflect a prominent global warming activist claiming that he developed a computer model by which global warming can bypass the atmosphere, bypass the upper ocean, and be entirely hidden in the deep ocean; you know, that part of our planet where we really can’t measure or find anything. The missing global warming is apparently hanging out at the underwater space alien base in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, along with the missing files proving the 9/11 Truthers are right that George W. Bush bombed the World Trade Center, along with the Vast Rightwing Conspiracy files proving that Bill Clinton really did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky, and along with the missing film footage proving the seven Apollo astronauts and two Johnson Space Center directors who claim global warming is not a crisis really did stage their moon landings on a vacant lot somewhere in the Arizona desert.
The global warming activists, of course, do their best to make their Bermuda Triangle defense sound scientific. The paper claims all this phantom global warming really can directly bypass the atmosphere and the upper ocean if winds start blowing strangely enough and strongly enough to bury the warming deep in the ocean. Thankfully, we can spare ourselves the dizzying asserted logic of such claims by examining recent global sea surface wind data. As Bermuda Triangle-busting science would have it, NASA satellite instruments show global sea surface wind speeds have declined rather than increased during the past decade.
Warmists will do and say anything to protect their cult of Gore, because the endgame is Progressivism, far left control of governments and people, not science or the environment.
…is warmth created snow, you might just be a Warmist

This is it. I renounce my Conservative Card. I’m so tired of Conservatives being the kind of people who would do this
(The Blaze) According to Wyoming’s Star-Tribune, on the non-university affiliated Facebook page UW Crushes, which has since been shut down, a post appeared last week that read:
“I want to hatef— Meg Lanker- so hard,†the Facebook post said. “That chick that runs her liberal mouth all the time and doesn’t care who knows it. I think its hot and it makes me angry. One night with me and shes gonna be a good Republican b—-.â€
This controversial post Meg Lanker-Simons reported the post to university administrators and campus police, telling the Laramie Boomerang that as a rape survivor this is “one of the worst things someone can threaten.â€
I mean, really, what the hell is the matter with you conservatives? The guy is probably a TEA Party member to boot…..um, oh, uh, wait
On Tuesday, though, it was revealed by University of Wyoming Police Department that they had cited Lanker-Simons herself for the threatening post. In a separate article, the Laramie Boomerang reported police obtained a warrant to search the student’s computer and found substantial evidence verifying that the offending Facebook post came from Lanker-Simons’ computer, while the computer was in her possession.â€
That’s right, folks, another case of a Progressive ginning up an issue to make Conservatives look bad. So, obviously the University is going to hold sit ins decrying liberals intentionally creating false accusations designed to denigrate conservatives, right? They’ll hold teach ins regarding tolerance toward Conservatives and to not do things like Lanker-Simons did, right? Um, no
Regardless, the university has said that either way the issue has dredged up an important lesson, which is that UW has zero tolerance for violence of any kind.
“The fact that the Facebook post apparently was a fabrication does not change the necessity for continued vigilance in reassuring that we have a campus where everyone feels safe,â€Â UW spokesman Chad Baldwin said in a statement. â€It’s important that this event does not undermine the progress that has been made in this area.â€
As one Blaze commenter writes “It is not Reality that counts…it’s the seriousness of the charges.”
The “pro-gun control” folks, meaning anti-2nd Amendment/pro-gun grabber/people control crowd, aren’t able to win the argument using facts, figures, and adult discourse, so they’ve resorted to what they do best: emotional pleas, and they’ve decided to target Senator Kelly Ayotte, which, to use liberal terminology, rather misogynistic
(Politico) Sen. Kelly Ayotte voted against a bill to expand background checks for purchasers of firearms, and Erica Lafferty, the daughter of the slain principal from Sandy Hook Elementary School, wanted to know why.
Lafferty got her chance at a town hall meeting Tuesday.
“You had mentioned that the burden to owners of gun stores that these expanded background checks would cause,†the 27-year-old Lafferty said. “I’m just wondering why the burden of my mother being gunned down in the hall of her elementary school isn’t as important as that?â€
While we are all sorry as to what happened, the true fact is that the background checks bill that failed in the Senate would not have stopped Adam Lanza. Connecticut has one some of the toughest gun control laws in the country yet they still failed to stop him. Britain and Norway, with serious gun restrictions, have seen gun violence.
“It’s disappointing and disgusting that she can pretty much look me in the eye and try to justify my mother’s murder and the murder of five other educators and the murders of 6- and 7-year-olds,†Lafferty said in an interview. “It’s disgusting.â€
I’m trying not to be harsh regarding this tragedy and her loss, but this is an emotional argument, of which the media is all too excited to tell us about, being good little liberals. Guns didn’t murder those people: Adam Lanza did. He’s the one who pulled the trigger, having planned it for years, and intentionally went to a gun free zone because it was an easy kill zone. Putting massive burdens on other citizens who committed no crimes is not the answer. But this doesn’t end there, as Ayotte has a target on her back
Kelly Ayotte on defense over gun vote
In the aftermath of the Senate’s failed vote two weeks ago to expand background checks, New Hampshire has suddenly emerged as ground zero in the national battle over gun control, with Ayotte now stuck at the center of the fight.
Powerful outside groups run by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are bankrolling ads and vowing to dump huge resources into the state to force Ayotte to reverse her opposition to the bill or pay the political consequences. And after two years of projecting a profile as a foreign policy and deficit hawk, her critics in the state have spent the past two weeks trying to rebrand her as: “NRAyotte.â€
The emotional fight threatens to transform Ayotte — a young conservative Republican woman whose star is on the rise — into a polarizing figure back home on a contentious issue. Instead of taking up the banner of gun rights, Ayotte is seeking a lower profile on the subject in a state where she’s become the last Republican in the all-female congressional delegation.
It’s a coordinated Democrat assault on a strong women who fails to share the liberal penchant for draconian gun laws. Were the GOP doing this it would be termed a war on women. The emotional assaults to grab guns are all the liberals have. Let’s point out that many of the people at the town hall, including Lafferty, are not New Hampshire residents, and not Ayotte’s constituents.
