It’s so terrible! Won’t someone think of the kids!

(WTVY) The calendar may say fall, but it looks like winter in Montana.

Storms brought several inches of snow to parts of the state Wednesday night into Thursday.

(MagicValley.com) Snow is falling early in some parts of the state (Idaho) — including a couple of ski areas.

Officials reported snow at Brundage Mountain near McCall on Tuesday and a light dusting atop the mountains at Bogus Basin outside of Boise.

Forecasters are calling for more snow the rest of this week with heavy, early-season dumps north of Ketchum. Meteorologists are predicting as much as 10 inches to accumulate near Galena Summit through Thursday.

(Register Guard) Fall has barely arrived in Oregon, and already it’s snowing big-time at Crater Lake.

Marsha McCabe, a spokeswoman for the only national park in Oregon, says there was an unusually early snowfall Tuesday night, amounting to about 8 inches.

Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot, the deep oceans ate the warming.

Bummer: Colorado Illegals Face “Uncertainty” After Floods

As one of the folks in the comments at the story writes “So, we’re supposed to feel sorry that they came here illegally and we are supposed to provide translators for them?”

Immigrants living in the U.S. illegally returned to their mobile home parks in flood-ravaged Colorado to find that there was little left to salvage — not the water-damaged cars, not the old family pictures and not the sheds carried away by the rushing waters.

The destruction, however, was only the beginning of what’s been a nightmarish two weeks. They didn’t have flood insurance. And because they are not citizens or legal residents — and don’t have family members who are — they won’t get the federal government’s help.

“They say that faith and hope die last,” said Juan Partida, 40, a dairy worker who along with his wife Mari, who is pregnant, do not qualify for federal emergency aid because they are in the country illegally. “We need to have faith and hope that we’ll get help.”

You can get it back in your home country.

“We were flooded like everyone else. We suffered the same damage,” said Norma Miramontes, 42, who along with her husband, a construction worker, is in the U.S. illegally.

Well, illegals sure have the “I’m entitled” mentality pushed by Liberals down pat, eh?

Warmist: We Are All Volcanoes Now Or Something

Funny thing about society nowadays: those who are shrill and unhinged, throwing rhetorical bombs, are listed to more than people who are rational and calm, at least in politics and in the media, hence, those who are shrill and unhinged feel emboldened to be more shrill and emboldened. Hence, we end up with things like this

(Winnipeg Free Press) The 800-odd authors of the report are selected by their fellow scientists in the various disciplines relevant to climate change as the acknowledged leaders in their field of study. Their job was to review all 14,000 scientific papers on climate change published in the past five years. And they are doing this work at the behest of the world’s governments, not as some random pressure group; it is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

All these authors, selected by the IPCC for their Belief that the miniscule warming since 1850 (1.4F) is caused by Mankind and their willingness to push for hard-left solutions, are “working for the world’s governments”. Interesting. They aren’t working for science?

Scientists are very cautious people. They won’t go one millimetre beyond what the evidence makes indisputable, knowing that they will be attacked by rival scientists if they do. They are much more comfortable talking about probabilities rather than certainties. They are, in other words, a nightmare for journalists who have to transmit their findings to the world.

So, I guess we’re being told they aren’t actually scientists.

There is reason to believe that it’s already too late to avoid this one. The protective covering of floating ice that has shielded the Arctic Ocean from solar heating for so long is now going fast, and we will probably see an ice-free Arctic Ocean in the August-September period as early as the 2020s. Mercifully, this is the smallest of the three major feedbacks in terms of its impact — but it triggers a bigger one.

So that “ice free 2013” has gone out the window? What happens in the next 7-13 years when the Arctic is not ice free? Here comes the bomb

Those are the killer feedbacks. Earth has lurched suddenly into a climate 5-6 degrees C higher than now a number of times in the past. The original warming usually came from massive, long-lasting volcanic eruptions that put a large amount of CO2 into the atmosphere — but in every case it was feedbacks like these that carried the planet up into a temperature regime where there was a massive dieback of animals and plants.

We are the volcanoes now. Our own emissions would take a long time to get us up to really high average temperatures worldwide, but all we have to do is pull the trigger on the feedbacks. The rest is automatic.

So, if volcanoes have been primary drivers of climate in the past, ie, natural forces, why can’t natural forces be the primary driver of this modest warm period? Steven Goddard notes the cooling from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, causing cooling. When the reduced temps from that eruption are removed, we end up with this

Obama Discusses “Affordable” Care Act And “Far Right Republicans” In Weekly Address

Continuing with his normal use of the resources of the White House, owned by The People of the USA, for hyper-partisan campaign style speeches, (NMP) Obama loves him some “Affordable” Care Act for Other People, and whines at Republicans (video here, if you can stomach it) in his Weekly Address

Hi, everybody Democrat voters (WT-had to fix that).  This Tuesday is an important day for families, businesses, and our economy.

It’s the day a big part of the Affordable Care Act kicks in, and tens of millions of Americans will finally have the same chance to buy quality, affordable health care as everyone else.

If “affordable” means “seeing your premiums skyrocket“, well, yeah. If it means 30 million left without insurance, sure, OK, Sparky. If it means people being dumped from their company policies and seeing America turned into a part-timer economy, yup.

It’s also the day that a group of far-right Republicans in Congress might choose to shut down the government and potentially damage the economy just because they don’t like this law.

Say what you will about George W. Bush, he was never this hyper-partisan or derogatory towards his opponents (perhaps he should have been, at least now and then, but that’s a different discussion). Obama never acts as POTUS, but as President Of Those Who Vote Democrat.

If you’re one of the vast majority of Americans who already have health care, you already have new benefits you didn’t before, like free mammograms and contraceptive care with no copay, and discounts on prescription medicine for seniors.  You’ve already got new protections in place too, like no more lifetime limits on your care, no more discriminating against children with preexisting conditions like asthma, or being able to stay on your parents’ plan until you turn 26.

Problem is, those are masking issues (except for the contraception thing, which is pandering to those who don’t feel like spending a few bucks a month for protection as they have irresponsible, casual sex), things that are popular, designed to be the honey masking the taste of nasty medicine. Or, if you like, some nice chipolte ranch, tomatoes, and a pretzel bun on a s**t-burger.

I will work with anyone who wants to have a serious conservation about our economic future.  But I will not negotiate over Congress’ responsibility to pay the bills it has already racked up.  I don’t know how to be more clear about this: no one gets to threaten the full faith and credit of the United States of America just to extract ideological concessions.  No one gets to hurt our economy and millions of innocent people just because there are a couple laws you don’t like.  It hasn’t been done in the past, and we’re not going to start doing it now.

He’ll work with the President Of Iran, but not Republicans. He’s added over $6.5 trillion to the debt. Yet, he blames Republicans in Congress for his prolificant spending during the years Dems controlled Congress. Where’s his own budget? It is consistently late, and so horrible that even the Democrat controlled Senate won’t vote for it.

IPCC Hedges Bets On Warming Pause For Lifetimes

A whole generation has not known any statistically significant warming. Could more generations be without? (via Junk Science)

(Reuters) The IPCC reiterated that a warming trend is “unequivocal”, and some effects would last far beyond the lifetimes of people now alive, such as heat penetrating ever deeper into the oceans.

In other words, the oceans ate their warming, which is very convenient (but doesn’t explain why this didn’t happen during the previous spikes during the Modern Warm Period), and they aren’t quite sure if the current pause will last for several decades (such as the late 40’s through the late 70’s) or longer, but they need a way to Blame Mankind in order to get some of that sweet sweet taxpayer money.

BTW, Ace notes that the NY Times finally realizes that taking Michael Mann’s tree ring based “hockey stick” was a mistake.

Bummer: People Hate Envirowackos And Feminists

(Salon) Why don’t people behave in more environmentally friendly ways? New research presents one uncomfortable answer: They don’t want to be associated with environmentalists.

That’s the conclusion of troubling new research from Canada, which similarly finds support for feminist goals is hampered by a dislike of feminists.

Sadly, the envirowackos cause all legit environmentalists to be lumped together. And despised.

In one (study), the participants—228 Americans recruited via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk—described both varieties of activists in “overwhelmingly negative” terms. The most frequently mentioned traits describing “typical feminists” included “man-hating” and “unhygienic;” for “typical environmentalists,” they included “tree-hugger” and “hippie.”

Not all environmentalists are hippies and tree-huggers. I’m not. I like clean air, water, and land. I like trees. The wackos cause a negative stereotype of all.

The results of three additional studies suggested this aversion to perceived stereotypical behavior impacts people’s behavior. In one of them, 140 Americans (again recruited via Mechanical Turk) read an article about climate change and “the need for individuals to adopt sustainable lifestyles.”

“Climate change” is not about the environment, and these wackos have further eroded belief in environmentalism. Thanks, wackos!

Rand Paul: If Elected Democrats Don’t Want Obamacare For Themselves, Why Should You?

Writing in the Washington Times, Rand Paul makes the point that Democrats tend to not want the “Affordable” Care Act for themselves

Earlier this week, in an effort led by Sen. Ted Cruz, some of my Republican colleagues and I took to the Senate floor with the intent of making Washington listen. The American people have made it abundantly clear that they do not want Obamacare. In fact, a majority of elected officials, the same officials that voted to implement this health care mandate, do not want it, either.

Last summer, in a 5-4 decision authored by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., the Supreme Court wrongly concluded that Obamacare’s individual mandate could stand. As a consequence of the court’s ruling, starting on Oct. 1, whether they want it or not, Americans will be compelled to purchase a government-mandated product — health insurance — or pay a tax.

What should infuriate you the most is the fact that the same elected officials who implemented this mandate have recently declared themselves exempt from it. That is to say, these officials are forcing you to partake in something that they themselves are refusing. If Obamacare is so great, why then are federal employees and elected officials getting special treatment and opting out?

If President Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Harry Reid and Chief Justice Roberts love Obamacare so much, they should live under it. Their actions speak louder than words, and it is erroneous for these leaders to even attempt to claim that Obamacare is a step forward for Americans.

Senator Paul goes on to describe many of the negative outcomes that have so-far occurred thanks to the “Affordable” Care Act. The layoffs, the dropping of coverage, moving employees to under 30 hours a week, the extremely weak jobs market, and so on.

I have a proposal. I have offered an amendment that would outlaw any special exemptions for government employees. This amendment requires all federal workers to purchase health insurance from the new Obamacare exchanges, instead of receiving taxpayer-funded subsidies.

I am also introducing a more broad constitutional amendment, which states that Congress shall make no law that treats citizens differently from the elites in the federal government.

He wants to remind lawmakers that they are not above the American citizenry. You can bet that the amendment will be shot down by the Democrat controlled Senate, if it even makes it out of committee. As to the Constitutional amendment, which I mentioned the other day, he should first bring it up in the Senate, and find a fellow Republican to bring it up in the House. This would require a 2/3 vote in favor in both, and we know Democrats will not vote for it. This would be good politics.

Then, he can attempt to get the States to call for a Constitutional Convention. With 27 controlled by Republicans, he would need 33. Would Democrat legislatures approve of having the Convention? It would then require three fourths of the States to ratify. 38 states. With 17 controlled by Dems, that would be tough. It would depend heavily on what the people in the States want. And there might be enough, even amongst Democrats, to push for Washington to have to submit to the same laws they pass for the citizens.
