Warming Still On Pause Per Met Office Data

Will Warmists still maintain that the deep oceans ate their warming, or come up with some fun new excuse?

(UK Daily Mail) The global warming ‘pause’ has now lasted for almost 17 years and shows no sign of ending – despite the unexplained failure of climate scientists’ computer models to predict it.

The Mail on Sunday has also learnt that because 2013 has been relatively cool, it is very likely that by the end of this year, world average temperatures will have crashed below the ‘90 per cent probability’ range projected by the models.

These also provide the main basis for the sweeping forecasts of a perilous, hotter world in a new report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The graph above covers the period June 1997 to July 2013. It was drawn using the official Met Office ‘HadCRUT4’ monthly data for world average temperatures, and shows the lack of a warming trend.

Warmists will say that 16 years does not a trend make. Yet, this whole hysteria arrived from a short term increase starting in the late 1970’s and going to 1988, when James Hansen testified to Congress that the Earth is doomed. The warming only continued in a statistically significant fashion for a few more years.

PS: This doesn’t deny that the Earth has seen warming. It has. This is what happens during a natural/mostly natural warm period. The argument is on causation.

Politico Has Hissy Fit Over GOP Using Mild Insults

Washington’s shutdown blame game is already in full force – and the government isn’t even closed yet.

About 20 House Republicans gathered on the steps of the United States Senate on Sunday afternoon, a time usually reserved in the city for watching the Redskins. Instead, tourists gathered to watch Republican after Republican demanding that the Senate come back in session, accusing the Democratic controlled chamber of being “lazy” and Majority Leader Harry Reid of taking his ball and going home rather than negotiating with GOP leadership over the weekend.

I hope there’s something more than that. Let’s read on

“I’m glad now to invite to the microphone our distinguished majority leader in the Senate,” said Rep. Bill Johnson of Ohio, gesturing to an empty microphone as House members guffawed. “I’m sorry, Harry’s not here today. Maybe he’ll show up later.”

Really, that’s as bad as it gets. Now, let’s consider what Democrats have shrieked about Republicans over the past week

Obama’s Politicized DOJ To Sue North Carolina Over Voting Law

Eric Holder still has no intention of suing Colorado for violating federal law regarding use of marijuana. Nor any cities that offer illegal aliens sanctuary. But, he’s going to sue North Carolina over discrimination that hasn’t happened

(Fox News) The Justice Department will announce Monday that it is suing the state of North Carolina for alleged racial discrimination over tough new voting rules.

A person briefed on the department’s plans told Fox News that the suit would claim that the North Carolina statute violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and would seek to have the state subject to federal pre-clearance before making “future voting-related changes.” The person also said the suit would be filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Nashville, Tenn. (snip)

North Carolina’s new law scales back the period for early voting and imposes stringent voter identification requirements. It is among at least five Southern states adopting stricter voter ID and other election laws. The Justice Department on Aug. 22 sued Texas over the state’s voter ID law and is seeking to intervene in a lawsuit over redistricting laws in Texas that minority groups consider to be discriminatory. In the North Carolina lawsuit, the person said, the government will challenge requirements in state law that eliminate the first seven days of early voting opportunities and eliminate same-day voter registration during the early voting period. Same-day registration allows voters to cast a ballot immediately after presenting elections officials with proof of their name and home address.

The Justice Department challenge also is aimed at a provision eliminating the counting of certain types of provisional ballots by voters who cast ballots in their home counties but do not vote in the correct precincts.

So, will Holder sue the majority of US States?

  • 14 states allow straight party voting. North Carolina now joins the 36 other states that do not.
  • 15 states allow NO early voting or no-excuse absentee voting. (Those include NY and Mass)
  • 32 states allow early voting ranging from 4 days prior to election day to 45 days with an average 19 days. North Carolina allows 10 days but requires the same number of hours of early voting that was available in 2012 and 2010 when the early voting period was 17 days.
  • Only 1 state allows same day registration during early voting. NC was the only other state to allow this and has now joined 49 states in not allowing same day registration during early voting.
  • 11 states allow same day registration on Election Day. North Carolina does not.
  • 5 states allow 16 and 17 year olds to pre-register to vote. 45 states do not, including now, North Carolina.

Illinois and Delaware require voter ID. Hawaii has even stricter voter ID requirements. Why is Holder not suing those states?

BTW, someone should keep an eye on his twitter feed and social media, see if he flies. See if he shows up at COP19 in Warsaw, Poland, come November) as well as get a vasectomy

There is increasing investment in new energy technology that will end the world’s dependence on fossil carbon releasing fuels that are overwhelming the natural shorter term carbon exchange cycles and seriously inhibiting the natural reradiation of energy from the earth, causing global warming and turning the oceans acidic, endangering the marine food chain.

Yet that alternative energy investment depends on the demand driven by the air transport, the land transport, and the sea transport sectors, the latter two comprising a higher sources of damaging greenhouse gas emissions than the former.

Mr Holthaus’s crying would, if translated in a widespread cutting down of such activities, collapse not just the fossil sourced greenhouse gas activities, but the capacity of the human species to investigate and innovate in its very obvious need to stop those carbon emissions that are not part of nature’s way of doing things.

His is a profoundly ignorant, indulgent, selfish, and silly response to the problem, since a world that can’t eat, or heat itself in colder climates, is going to embark on the most ruinous imaginable plundering of the nearest forests and fisheries and arable lands to extract the energy and protein needs it can’t buy in from more distant locations.

Sandilands goes on to write that aviation is just a little blip on man-induced climate change, and says that while Holthaus was surely sincere, his freakout and pledge is also “lazy, stupid and defeatist.”

Let’s break this down, shall we? Sandilands is providing a Typical Warmist Rationalization in order to make sure Warmists have excuses to continue to avoid practicing what they preach. Period. End of story.

Humorously and unintentionally, Sandiland also provides that rational for continued use of fossil fuels while avoiding the disaster of current “green” technologies.

Republican CR Adds A “Conscience Clause”

The GOP passed a revised continuing resolution Saturday, which seeks to delay the “Affordable” Care Act individual mandate for a year, along with repealing the tax on medical devices (that last is popular with Democrats, too). As John Boehner pointed out, this is what the American People want (well, most want the “Affordable” CA immolated and replaced with a real solution). In that CR we also find

(CNN) House Republicans have added a measure aimed at limiting contraceptive coverage to the spending bill coming up for a vote Saturday night, a spokesman for Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kansas, told CNN.

A senior House leadership aide confirmed that development.

The so-called “conscience clause” would allow employers and insurers to opt out of preventative care for women which they find objectionable on moral or religious grounds. That prominently includes birth control, which most insurers are required to provide for free under current Obamacare rules.

It’s not just about women, but men, too, since men would be able to purchase contraception and undergo sterilization procedures. That last one is bigger than contraception, along with Obama’s requirement that the health insurance provide abortifacients. It’s sad that this even needs to be encoded in law, considering what the 1st Amendment states in regard to religion.

And, yeah, this has driven the Left to Moonbat Level 8

  • Lawyers, Guns, and Money says the GOP is punishing women (because they’re apparently too fragile to be able to earn $10 or so to buy their own condoms and/or birth control pills)
  • The Moderate Voice (snicker) calls it insanity to allow people to follow their 1st Amendment right to “conscience”
  • The comments at Talking Points Memo are a typical cesspool
  • Outside The Beltline thinks this is pandering to the hard-right (and, yes, I consider OTB a lefty site: almost everything is negative about Republicans, could read like The Daily Kos, and features the same type of unhinged liberals commenting, and the liberal comments are very popular, while Conservative comments get “down thumbs”)
  • The winner for moonbattery is Little Green Footballs with “And Yes, the GOP Even Managed to Work Denial of Birth Control Into Their Clownish Budget Bill“. Don’t you think it’s rather misogynistic to think women cannot buy their own birth control without the helping hand Of Unkle Same Of Amerika?

Schoolkids Won’t Know What Fall Looks Like

It’s so terrible! Won’t someone think of the kids!

(WTVY) The calendar may say fall, but it looks like winter in Montana.

Storms brought several inches of snow to parts of the state Wednesday night into Thursday.

(MagicValley.com) Snow is falling early in some parts of the state (Idaho) — including a couple of ski areas.

Officials reported snow at Brundage Mountain near McCall on Tuesday and a light dusting atop the mountains at Bogus Basin outside of Boise.

Forecasters are calling for more snow the rest of this week with heavy, early-season dumps north of Ketchum. Meteorologists are predicting as much as 10 inches to accumulate near Galena Summit through Thursday.

(Register Guard) Fall has barely arrived in Oregon, and already it’s snowing big-time at Crater Lake.

Marsha McCabe, a spokeswoman for the only national park in Oregon, says there was an unusually early snowfall Tuesday night, amounting to about 8 inches.

Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot, the deep oceans ate the warming.

Bummer: Colorado Illegals Face “Uncertainty” After Floods

As one of the folks in the comments at the story writes “So, we’re supposed to feel sorry that they came here illegally and we are supposed to provide translators for them?”

Immigrants living in the U.S. illegally returned to their mobile home parks in flood-ravaged Colorado to find that there was little left to salvage — not the water-damaged cars, not the old family pictures and not the sheds carried away by the rushing waters.

The destruction, however, was only the beginning of what’s been a nightmarish two weeks. They didn’t have flood insurance. And because they are not citizens or legal residents — and don’t have family members who are — they won’t get the federal government’s help.

“They say that faith and hope die last,” said Juan Partida, 40, a dairy worker who along with his wife Mari, who is pregnant, do not qualify for federal emergency aid because they are in the country illegally. “We need to have faith and hope that we’ll get help.”

You can get it back in your home country.

“We were flooded like everyone else. We suffered the same damage,” said Norma Miramontes, 42, who along with her husband, a construction worker, is in the U.S. illegally.

Well, illegals sure have the “I’m entitled” mentality pushed by Liberals down pat, eh?
