There are many reason why wind projects can fall off the edge of the map. One is that people generally support these projects, until they are going to be build near where they live and/or can see them. (The Hill) Investors in wind-generated power nearly abandoned ship when Congress let the tax credits for wind projects expire, a new report says.
Installations of new U.S. wind projects fell 93 percent last year. A Navigant Research report says wind power installations had increased to a record high of 13,100 in 2012, according to the Houston Chronicle.
After deadlines passed in Congress and the $2 billion tax credit failed to boost investments, financiers pulled heir backing of projects.
Without the massive taxpayer backed funding, these projects make little economic sense.

House Republicans complain the Obama administration is refusing to turn over documents related to enforcing environmental laws at wind farms where dozens of eagles and other protected birds have been killed.
Rep. Doc Hastings of Washington says the Fish and Wildlife Service has engaged in a “deliberate slow rolling of documents and answers†for nearly a year. Hastings is the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee.

What is the difference between a psychic and a climate science denier? The answer might surprise you.
The question popped out of my head while it was exploding from this jaw-dropping story: “CNN’s Sister Network Asks Psychic To Explain What Happened To Missing Malaysia Jet!†(snip)
Her answer reminded me of the deniers:
“Naturally, I don’t have hard, concrete evidence. I think any psychic who has hard, concrete evidence can’t do their job correctly…. They’ll just work off what they know. I tend to work off what I don’t know.†(snip)
I know what the similarities are between psychics and deniers. They both use unscientific methods, generally make stuff up with no evidence to support their views, and have consistently been debunked when scrutinized.
What is the difference between a psychic and a climate science denier? In fairness, psychics sometimes guess the right answer.
Let’s consider: who was right about the climate?
Hmm, looks like the Warmist models were wrong. Warmists were wrong about sea level rise. They were wrong about snow being a thing of the past. They were wrong about the Arctic being ice free. They were wrong about tropical storm development and landfalls. And they cannot prove, using the scientific model, that the warming of the (insert time frame based on their talking points here) was mostly/solely caused by anthropogenic means.

Even better, California citizens are not welcome at these government funded facilities
(Daily Caller) The California Department of Motor Vehicles is setting up new facilities to process driver’s license applications for illegal immigrants alone.
Last year, Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law a bill, AB 60, which will allow illegal immigrants to obtain the documents beginning Jan. 1, 2015.
The bill was signed along with a number of others laws seen as favorable to undocumented immigrants.
As part of the driver’s license application process, immigrants will have to acknowledge that they are undocumented. But AB 60 protects applicants from criminal prosecution.
De facto amnesty.
“This is the stepping-stone to state level amnesty,†Jon Feere, legal policy analyst at the Center of Immigration Studies, told The DCNF.
“California is the state that gave us Ronald Reagan. Now it gives us illegal alien lawyers with law licenses and illegal alien drivers with driver’s licenses,†Feere said.
There will be 5 facilities which could provide DL’s (I wonder if they will be free?) to people in our country illegally. Next up will surely be official Social Security numbers, a pure legal status, government benefits, and voting rights.

(CNS News) Vice President Joe Biden, in a speech to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Legislative Summit, on Thursday said the 11 million illegal aliens in the United States “are already Americans.â€
“Eleven million people living in the shadows I believed are already American citizens,†Biden said. “These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to be able to contribute fully, and by that standard, 11 million undocumented aliens are already Americans in my view.â€
Doofus. Nancy Pelosi has stated that amnesty is more important than winning the House (a veiled acknowledgement that Dems have no shot at winning it back this year). I suspect they are testing out the notion of making “immigration reform” a major platform for the mid-terms. Sheesh, it’s not like 95% of murder warrants in Los Angeles aren’t for illegal aliens. 75% of people on most wanted list in LA are illegals. 35% of people in California jails are illegals. The FBI says roughly half the gang members in LA are illegals. Cost LA County $36 million a month in welfare costs.

I’ve mentioned many times the notion of the United States Of The Offended, a phrase by Robert D. Raiford which denotes that people get their skivvies in a bunch by pretty much everything, pitch a fit because their feelings were hurt, and demand that Something Be Done. It doesn’t help when people have no understanding about sarcasm.
(USA Today) TV funnyman Stephen Colbert might be finding out how it feels when something goes viral in a bad way.
On Wednesday’s Colbert Report, the satirist made fun of Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s recently announced Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation. Snyder created the charity “to provide resources that offer genuine opportunities for Tribal communities,” according to a press release, but Colbert mocked it as an attempt at positive PR for the NFL team and its controversial name, which many consider to be racist.
Playing off of Wednesday’s segment, the verified Twitter account for The Colbert Show, which is often written in the persona of the blowhard TV-host character Colbert portrays, posted this tweet on Thursday to its 1 million followers:
I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever.— The Colbert Report (@ColbertReport) March 27, 2014
“Ching-Chong Ding-Dong” is a reference to a satirical Asian caricature Colbert has assumed on the show in the past, including a January 2011 segment attacking Rush Limbaugh. It was also part of Wednesday’s segment about the Redskins.
After outrage erupted on the social network, the tweet was deleted, but not before the #CancelColbert hashtag started trending.
Of course, people were accusing Colbert of raaaaacism, and it should be pointed out that the tweet did not come from Colbert’s official Twitter account, which is @StephenAtHome. The @ColbertReport account is controlled by Comedy Central. And, of course, both Comedy Central and Colbert grovelled at the foot of the statue of Political Correctness. Though, can you blame them? People do not understand sarcasm anymore, and people like to be per perpetually aggrieved. This is Liberal World, where negative feelings make them feel good. And no one can ever be Offended.
Well, certain people can be offended and there should be no blowback, per the terms of Liberal World.. Conservatives, especially conservative women. Hey, remember all the controversy when Colbert attacked Rush using the same type of language? Remember all the outrage when Conservatives like Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, etc, were attacked in highly denigrating manners? Of course, it is OK in Liberal World to denigrate White Men, especially if they are from the South. Rednecks and folks in “Flyover Country” are frequent targets. And none of this is done in a satirical manner.
Nowadays, certain people and groups aren’t allowed to be offended. And when they are, well, goodness, Things Must Happen. Like getting the Colbert Report cancelled. Obviously, turning the channel would be too much.

Senate Democrats, especially those up for tough re-election fights, are getting a bit antsy regarding how Ocare affects those chances
(Fox News) Several Democratic senators reportedly plan to introduce as soon as Thursday a set of principles and legislation aimed at fixing parts of ObamaCare amid concerns the law could cost Democrats House seats and possibly the Senate in November.
Sens. Mark Warner, D-Va.; Mark Begich, D-Alaska; Mary Landrieu, D-La.; Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; and Sen. Angus King, I., Maine, will introduce proposals to improve the law, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Begich and Warner have called for allowing “copper” plans on the government-run health exchanges. The new insurance plans would offer lower premiums and higher out-of-pocket costs than the “bronze,” “silver” and “gold” options currently offered.
Can you get more expensive in terms of out of pocket costs/deductibles than the current plans, which carry an average deductible of a bit over $5,000? Not much of a fix, eh? There may be more proposed fixes within the Wall Street Journal article which was the basis for the Fox/AP article, alas, behind the paywall. But, then, Dems, especially the vulnerable ones, have been yapping about fixes for quite some time now, yet never actually submit legislation.
Some Republicans have expressed reservations about helping Democrats improve a law believed to be central to the GOP’s midterm strategy, The Journal reported.
“These folks have voted for that bad piece of legislation [are] now having remorse,” said Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R., Ga., adding that Democrats “want to try to do something political to a very unpopular piece of legislation.”
Typically squishy Republican Jennifer Rubin offers some good points
Democratic pollster Celinda Lake advises Democrats not to bother defending Obamacare. (“Say it was flawed from the beginning, and we’re going to fix it.â€) That raises some interesting problems for Democrats.
First, why did they vote for this mess, and why have they been resisting fixing it so far? There is quite a credibility problem for people who jammed through the law based on a host of misrepresentations (keep your doctor, keep your plan, create jobs, etc.). Why entrust these same people to fix it?
More problematic for Democrats is how to describe the needed fixes or even to identify the flaws in the law they all supported. There sure are a lot of problems.
One thing she notes is the inability to sign up young people. And what if the subsidies for the federal marketplace are struck down?
Even more daunting is another legal problem, which has gotten less attention but may be the most troublesome. The New York Times reports: “Two of the three federal judges hearing a challenge to the Affordable Care Act appeared open on Tuesday to the argument that people buying health insurance in the federal marketplace should not be eligible for tax subsidies, the first indication that the White House could be facing another potentially serious legal challenge to a central part of President Obama’s health care law.†We are talking about ending the subsidies for exchanges in 36 states. “Of the 4.2 million people who selected private health plans from October through February, 2.6 million obtained coverage through the federal exchange, and four-fifths of them qualified for subsidies that reduce their premiums. Without subsidies, many would have been unable to afford insurance.†It would be a fitting end for the law that was crammed through, unread and poorly understood by its own supporters:
While everyone has been focused on the “contraception mandate” suits, the subsidy suit is much, much bigger. If Hobby Lobby and the other companies win their suits, at best (or worst for Ocare supporters), this will mean that companies can opt out of providing insurance that has free contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients. It won’t harm the law in the least. And, really, most companies do not care.
Killing the ability to offer subsidies for those who sign up through the federal exchanges would be devastating, and the Democrats would have only themselves to blame. They wrote and voted for the law. And the law states that only those signing up through exchanges “established by the state”, a phrase that appears 7 times in the PPACA, qualify for subsidies. Hey, maybe Democrats should have read the bill, eh?
In fact, when voters tell pollsters that they would like the law fixed, or liberal pundits insist we should keep it because it is basically working except for some minor glitches, they have no idea what fixes are possible or sustainable, in large part because Democrats won’t fess up as to what they have in mind. Republicans want to “fix it†also – keep the protection for people with preexisting conditions and allow young people to stay on their parents’ policies (something insurance companies will undoubtedly allow so long as there is demand) and change the rest.
Until Democrats actually come forth with legislation it is all yap yap, empty promises to “fix” Ocare in order to get re-elected. And right on time, the Senators offer some yap yap, which includes the “copper level” mentioned above, plus
We are calling to restore startup funds for new consumer-driven health insurance cooperatives, now operating in 23 states. This will allow families to have more options to access health coverage beyond traditional insurance companies, infusing state marketplaces with more competition to reduce average premiums.
In other words, more taxpayer money. Seems as if the pricetag of Ocare keeps going up. Or, they’d like it to go up.
We also propose directing state insurance regulators to develop models for their states to sell health insurance across state lines. These multi-state models will help us discern the benefits and challenges of selling health insurance in this manner, and determine if it is a means to increasing choice and competition among plans—potentially driving down costs while maintaining quality and value.
Wait, I thought Dems said this was Bad? It is also not allowed per federal law, so these Senators would need some, you know, legislation to be passed.
Second, to ease the transition for employers, we want to expand the option for voluntary coverage for employers with fewer than 100 employees, about 98 percent of all businesses. This will enable small and mid-sized businesses to make their own choices for their businesses, and employees can shop for coverage on the individual marketplace.
OK, so ask Team Obama to change this. They continue on with more words and ideas, then get to
But let’s stop trying to score political points by turning up the rhetoric and instead roll up our sleeves and get to work.

There’s a political joke in there, but, let’s keep this to the realm of coolness
(Mercury News) Peering into the far reaches of the solar system, astronomers have spied a pink frozen world 7½ billion miles from the sun.
It’s the second such object to be discovered in a region of space beyond Pluto long considered a celestial wasteland. Until now, the lone known resident in this part of the solar system was an oddball dwarf planet spotted in 2003 named Sedna after the mythological Inuit goddess who created the sea creatures of the Arctic.
The latest discovery shows “Sedna is not a freak. We can have confidence that there is a new population to explore,” Yale University senior research scientist David Rabinowitz said in an email. He was one of Sedna’s founders, but had no role in the new find detailed in Thursday’s issue of the journal Nature. (snip)
Like Sedna, 2012 VP113 is also a dwarf planet. It’s jokingly nicknamed “Biden” after Vice President Joe Biden because of the object’s initials. It measures about 280 miles across, or half the diameter of Sedna. It’s bone-chilling cold with a temperature of around minus 430 degrees Fahrenheit.
Unlike red and shiny Sedna, the newfound object is more pink and much fainter, which made it hard to detect.
By contrast, Earth is about 7,900 miles across and located 93 million miles from the sun.
Call me a geek, but I find this kind of stuff to be awesome.

Why? Because it is extremely alarmist
(Daily Mail) A climate scientist has accused the United Nations of being too alarmist over global warming – and demanded his name be removed from a crucial new report.
Professor Richard Tol, an economist at the University of Sussex, said fellow UN academics were exaggerating climate change and comparing it to the ‘apocalypse’.
His comments are a blow to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which on Monday will publish its first update in seven years on the impacts of climate change.
Scientists are taking long fossil fueled flights to Japan this week to agree on the final version of the scaremongering document.
Professor Tol is most definitely not a skeptic, he’s a big believer that “climate change” is mostly/solely caused by Mankind, but he also believes that the IPCC report will be overly-alarmist, but, then, that is the point of the reports, to scare the bejesus out policy makers in order to get them to Do Something
‘This has completely disappeared from the draft now, which is all about the impacts of climate change and the four horsemen of the apocalypse. This is a missed opportunity.’
Alas, Richard, highlighting doom and gloom is exactly what the IPCC and Warmists want
Last September the first report summarised the physical science of climate change, concluding that scientists are 95 per cent certain that humans are the ‘dominant cause’ of global warming. (and their prognostications have been 95% false)
The second part will set out the impact a warming world will have on people, economies, animals and natural ecosystems. (in other words, it should be made into a bad horror movie on SciFi)
The third part, to be finalised next month, will summarise possible mitigation – what we can do to reduce the problem. (taxation, more Big Government control of people and the private sector, more power to the UN)
And these same IPCC members still haven’t changed their own lives to match their apocalyptic rhetoric.

When I first read the story about a California state representative busted by the FBI, I wondered if he had anything to do with California gun control legislation. Then the Real World intruded for a while, so I never got around to researching. Fortunately, Jason Howerton at The Blaze was able to do a cruise through the Internet
A California state senator who authored gun control legislation asked for campaign donations in exchange for introducing an undercover FBI agent to an arms trafficker, according to court documents unsealed Wednesday.
The allegations against State Sen. Leland Yee were outlined in an FBI affidavit in support of a criminal complaint. The affidavit accuses Yee of conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and to illegally import firearms. He was arrested Wednesday.
Yee is also accused of accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and cash payments to provide introductions, help a client get a contract and influence legislation. He or members of his campaign staff accepted at least $42,800 in cash or campaign contributions from undercover FBI agents in exchange for carrying out the agents’ specific requests, the court documents allege.
Yee discussed helping the agent get weapons worth $500,000 to $2.5 million, including shoulder fired automatic weapons and missiles, and took him through the entire process of acquiring them from a Muslim separatist group in the Philippines to bringing them to the United States, according to the affidavit by FBI Special Agent Emmanuel V. Pascua.
So, a typical Democrat
A man was charged last year for threatening Yee over legislation that he proposed to limit rapid reloading of assault weapons. The bill would have prohibited the use of devices that allow users to swiftly reload military-style assault weapons. Lee also authored legislation that that would have required the state to study safe storage of firearms.

Before he was arrested and indicted on numerous federal charges Wednesday, including allegations of gun running, State Sen. Leland Yee was a major advocate for gun control and pushed to ban a device called a “bullet button.â€
In 2012, KPIX 5 reported on what gun control advocates called a huge loophole in California’s ban on assault weapons. The reports focused on the bullet button, a device that gun manufacturers designed in order to legally sell guns such as the AR-15 in California.
The bullet button enables the magazine of a semi-automatic rifle to be removed quickly, with the tip of a bullet. Removable magazines in combination with other features like a pistol grip and telescoping stock are banned under California law. But the bullet button is legal because it doesn’t work with one’s finger, so the magazine is considered “fixed.â€
Bob Owens notes that Yee has been heavily involved in the anti-2nd Amendment/gun banning/gun restriction movement, and has authored many pieces of legislation, as well as voting for the gun grabbing legislation, in California.
Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon, Democrat, was also busted by the FBI on corruption charges, ie, taking lots of bribes and theft. He resigned from office. NC Democrats think that this won’t affect the prospects for upcoming elections. We’ll see.
