LA Times: Democrats Need A Coherent Policy On Immigration Or Something

Justin Gest and Tyler Reny are asking quite a bit. Kinda like asking your dog to drive you to work when you’re hungover

To win over moderates, Democrats need a coherent immigration policy

Two conflicting trends emerge from a new poll conducted by the Washington Post and the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. Americans are largely unsupportive of President Trump’s approach to managing immigration. At the same time, they trust him to handle many aspects of the issue as much as, or more than, they trust congressional Democrats on the issue.

The poll results, released last week, should send a message to Democrats: Opposing Trump’s policies without offering a clear alternative will not be enough to win over public opinion on immigration.

According to the poll, a majority of Americans disapproves of each of Trump’s signature immigration positions: 62% of respondents said they were against the construction of a border wall; 66% said they disagreed with proposed cuts to legal family migration; 72% said they disliked the separation of families at the border; and 94% said they didn’t believe the president’s contention that many migrants who come to the United States are gang members or drug traffickers.

And yet, when asked whether they trust the president or congressional Democrats to protect American jobs and secure the border, most respondents selected Trump. Independent voters, especially those in swing districts, said they trusted the president more to manage undocumented migration, attract the best and brightest immigrants and handle immigration policy overall.

The duo offer more analysis and stats, leading to

Between the disapproval of Trump’s specific measures and these more humane views on immigrants as a group, Democrats should be well positioned to capture moderates when it comes to immigration. But the Democrats offer little beyond a condemnation of Trump’s policies. Their most recognizable counter-proposal is the campaign to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, a polarizing idea that is not likely to gain widespread support.

The duo then offer a few ideas

There are better solutions for Democrats to unite around. Merit-based immigration appears to draw popular support. Such a system need not be based only on education and professional skills. It could take into account a range of data, including previous visits to the U.S., proficiency in English, shortages in the labor market, the number of family members who are American citizens and underrepresented countries of origin.

The U.S. could also adopt exit stamps to keep track of visa overstays; private family sponsorship of refugees; short-term work visas; and bilateral mobility treaties, which satisfy demands in the labor market without granting residency to large numbers of people. These options are likely to enjoy broad support.

What they miss is that Democrats do not stand for these things. If they ever did, it was decades and decades ago. Any attempt to show support for these ideas, many of them which already exist and are in effect as federal policies, would simply show Democrats as being patronizing and liars. They’ve been railing against any attempts to require lawful immigrants to speak English.

But, none of this covers the real problem, which is illegal immigration. The opinion piece offers zero ideas on this, and illegal immigration is what people are mostly concerned with. If they attempted to offer up the above ideas, Trump would eviscerate them for ignoring illegal immigration.

And, really, this is who they are

(Breitbart “Abolish ICE PDX,” an anarchist group based in Oregon, publicly executed an effigy of President Donald Trump in Portland on Tuesday using a mock guillotine and replicating one of those most familiar scenes from the French Revolution.)

Far-Left Watch noted in its own coverage of the incident: “[T]his theme of wishing to publicly execute ideological opponents borrows from the French Revolution and is alarmingly prevalent in far-left circles.”

The event was captured on Periscope.

The effigy was a piñata of Trump, of the kind that has been on sale for the past three years. The sign on the guillotine read, “Brick by brick, wall by wall, we will make the border fall,” in red paint, which looked like blood. The group sealed the sign with the Anarchist symbol — a capital “A,” circled.

Weirdly, anarchists vote Democrat. This type of nutbaggery is emboldened by the elected Democrats and the big talkers, such as California state senator Kevin De Léon, who is attempting to beat Democrat Dianne Feinstein for “her” senate seat, and hosted an ‘ABOLISH ICE CREAM SOCIAL’ for members of the California Democratic Party executive board. This was a cute way of pushing abolish ICE.

If All You See…

…is land flooded from too much carbon pollution, you might just be a Warmist

The blog of the day is Maggie’s Farm, with a fitness post saying not to forget about working out those legs.

One thing I’ve been trying to do lately is add in more cardio and movement with lower body workouts. I’ve always tried to balance upper body strength with working the legs, and I get on the treadmill, elliptical, and bike machines, but I try and get more movement exercises in for flexibility and such. Otherwise, my legs feel heavy. Thinking about trying Yoga, maybe go over to the tennis courts and just hit a ball at the backboard. I try and do a bit of swimming, but, it’s as boring now as it used to be (I swam competitively through high school).

Ireland Could Be Visited By Great White Sharks Due To ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

Today’s “ZOMG, we’re all frickin’ doomed” story. Well, this hour’s. Or, should it be this minute’s, because the Cult of Climastrology is constantly putting out the dooooom

Great White sharks to invade Irish waters soon due to global warming

By 2048, Ireland could be faced with a swarm of sharks since the seas only have to increase by 1.8°F (1°C) for the beasts to make it their new home.

According to The Irish Sun, amid global warming, rising sea temperatures could bring with it a northward migration of Great Whites, Hammerheads, and Blacktip sharks to the seas of Ireland and the UK.

Dr. Ken Collins, who studies sharks, believes that in 30 years or so, the availability of prey in warming Irish waters could very well make the area ideal for the infamous creatures.

“You get Great Whites off the coast of South Africa where the water is colder than here and I see no reason why we should not have them in our waters,” Collins stated.

“There are Great Whites in the Med [Mediterranean Sea], which isn’t too far away and so I see no reason why they shouldn’t be spotted here, particularly off the coast of Cornwall where there is an abundant supply of seals, which is their favorite food.”

Well, this is a horrible situation. I mean, sharks in cold water….wait, what was that last part about Great Whites living in colder water?

Sharks are not new to Europe, however, since there have been over 200 shark attacks in the continent, wherein Italy has the highest rate of around 50 in total. The UK comes in a close second with 38 shark attacks since 1900.

So far, there have been no fatal attacks in either Ireland or the UK, but this could soon change with the potential for new players to enter the equation.

We can fix this with a carbon tax, you know.

Anyhow, depending on the source, Great Whites are already off the coast of Ireland. This is not anything new. It’s just a way of scaremongering, because actual science is not the forte of the Cult of Climastrology.

Now Baltimore Plans On Suing Fossil Fuels Companies Over ‘Climate Change’

This will probably go the same way as the other suits: memory holed by a judiciary which says cities have no standing to do this

Baltimore plans suit against oil and gas companies for their role in spurring climate change

Baltimore officials are expected to announce Friday a lawsuit against top oil and gas companies for their role in global climate change.

Mayor Catherine Pugh and city Solicitor Andre M. Davis are scheduled to discuss the complaint at an 11 a.m. news conference.

The lawsuit follows more than a dozen similar complaints filed by governments around the country — some of which judges have quickly tossed.

Just Thursday, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit New York City officials filed against oil companies, echoing a 2011 Supreme Court ruling that called climate change “an undertaking for the political branches” of government.

Perhaps Charm City should worry more about why police are afraid to do their jobs, which has led to more crime. Be more concerned with the high murder rate among the black residents who comprise 65% of the population. Why whites and affluent blacks and others are leaving the city. And a variety of problems.

And, again, I maintain that the fossil fuels companies should refuse to sell their products to the city government, even if just for a week or two. Let’s see them operate without.

Democrats Propose Legislation To Shrink Border Enforcement Zone

Republican House Leader Paul Ryan should do with this just like he wanted to do with the Democrats Abolish ICE legislation: put it up for a vote. And then watch Democrats caterwaul about having to *GASP* vote on their own legislation be a “stunt”

Rep. Pingree, other Democrats propose shrinking zones for immigration checks

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree is co-sponsoring a bill to shrink the size of the border enforcement zone where federal immigration agents have been asking for proof of citizenship.

The Department of Homeland Security would be allowed to stop vehicles without warrants only within 25 miles of the border instead of within 100 miles as allowed under current law, among other changes. The proposal comes after U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents conducted controversial checkpoints on I-95 in Penobscot County and at a bus station in Bangor.

Customs and Border Protection has authority to conduct citizenship checks without a warrant within 100 miles of the nation’s land and coastal borders. That includes the entire state of Maine, all of which is within 100 miles of either Canada or the Atlantic Ocean. The checkpoints have drawn criticism and fueled fears and rumors of federal crackdowns among immigrants and other residents.

“When two-thirds of Americans live 100 miles from the border, it doesn’t make any sense for immigration agents to stop and question people’s citizenship status far from the point of entry. Not only are warrantless searches hours away from the border a waste of resources, they spread fear in peaceful communities and infringe on my constituents’ rights to be free from unwarranted searches,” Pingree, D-1st District, said in a statement.

Will we soon see Democrats and their nutter base call for the abolition of CBP, like with ICE?

The Border Zone Reasonableness Restoration Act would reduce the area in which federal agents can stop vehicles from 100 miles to 25 miles, limit the zone in which officers can search private lands, except houses, from 25 miles to 10 miles from a U.S. border, and prohibit border patrol agents from stopping vehicles at checkpoints farther than 10 miles from the border without reasonable suspicion that an occupant is in the country illegally.

So, what they really want to do is make it much harder for any federal agents to do the job of stopping illegal aliens. If I had to guess, these Democrats missed the section in the U.S. Constitution which specifies that the federal government is tasked with stopping foreign invasion.

Meanwhile, Democrat David Price (NC-4) (I’m in this shmuck’s district) learned about friendly fire from crazy believers in illegal immigration

Today In #Resist: Nutters Look To Revoke Liquor License At Trump Hotel

Look, people, we didn’t like Barack Obama being elected either time, but, we accepted it. He won fair and square. Trump won fair and square. Don’t like it? “You don’t like a particular policy or a particular president? Then argue for your position. Go out there and win an election. But Don’t break it.” Most of our kooks were utter fringe. With Democrats (and #NeverTrump), we get the mainstreaming of insanity

Lawsuit looks to revoke Trump International Hotel’s liquor license

A D.C. Advisory Neighborhood Commission is supporting a petition that seeks to revoke the Trump International Hotel’s liquor license.

The commissioners in ANC 4C unanimously voted to support a petition to revoke the Trump Hotel’s liquor license because the law says licensees should be people of “good moral character,” and the commissioners believe President Donald Trump is not of good moral character.

“What the complaint says is that the owner of the Trump International Hotel doesn’t meet that definition and so ABRA, the Alcohol Beverage Regulation Administration, should take action,” Zach Teutsch, ANC Commissioner 4C, said.

D.C. attorney Joshua Levy filed the petition to revoke the license on behalf of 7 D.C. residents and the move by the ANC 4C commissioners is to support that filing.

But ANC 4C is located about three miles from the Trump Hotel, which means the hotel isn’t in their jurisdiction. While the Trump Hotel is not in their jurisdiction, D.C.’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulatory Administration says any civic group can file a complaint against a licensee any time.

The Trump Hotel’s license is up for renewal in 2019, but not everybody’s on board with the effort to revoke the license. Some, even those who disagree with the president’s politics, say his opponents are trying to score a symbolic shot at Trump but will hurt bartenders, servers and other workers at the hotel who earn a living and put tax dollars back into the District thanks to the liquor license.

Most likely, the license will be renewed because there is zero real world reasons not to. Also, the ABRA will understand that they’ll get sued if they go TDS and refuse to renew it.

We can certainly expect that other TDS infused #resistance wankers will see this petition and run with the same in places where other Trump properties exist, just because they’re unhinged and can’t simply MoveOn with their lives.

Bummer: Judge Puts The Kibosh On NYC’s Lawsuit Against Fossil Fuels Companies

The judge was also nice enough to save the taxpayers of NYC from Bill de Blasio pissing away money that could be better used on schools, infrastructure, etc, rather than on frivolous lawsuits

I still say it would be magnificent if the fossil fuels companies decided to refuse to sell their products to the city government of New York. Let’s see Bill de Blasio travel in his limo and on private jets without fossil fuels.

Bummer: Except For Some Elected Democrats And Pet Pundits, No One Cares About Russia Russia Russia

Heck, even ‘climate change’ does better. Not by much, but, if this is what Democrats have worked on for two years now, #Fail

From the article

There’s just one problem with the Democrats’ unending focus on Russia and the media’s constant collusion chatter: few Americans care, because – drumroll – they have real lives in the real economy to worry about.

As the latest survey from Gallup shows: when asked what the most important problem facing the nation is, Russia did not even warrant a 1% – and worse still, it is declining in importance from there.

It ranks so low that it gets an *. So, yeah, keep pushing this, Democrats.

Good News: Meat And Dairy Companies Are Worse Than Fossil Fuel Companies

Not that members of the Cult of Climastrology will give up any of the three, but, it gives them good talking points. Perhaps we can get some Warmist cities and counties to sue

Against Exxon and Shell but Still Eat Meat? Study Shows Meat and Dairy Companies Cause More Harm Than Fossil Fuels

In 2017, GRAIN, an international non-profit that conducts independent research and works to support small farmers, used methodology created by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to estimate the emissions produced by livestock. This was the first time that these emissions had ever been measured, and the study revealed some not-so-pretty statistics. Take, for instance, the fact that JBS, Cargill, and Tyson, three top meat companies, emitted more greenhouse gases in 2016 than all of France, plus nearly as much as oil giants like Exxon, Shell, and BP.

A year after that groundbreaking study, GRAIN has once again set out to bring to light the true impact of big meat and dairy on our planet. This time, the organization teamed up with another non-profit, the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP). Together, GRAIN and IATP conducted an analysis of the world’s 35 top-producing meat and dairy corporations. Here’s what they found:

  • The top five meat and dairy companies have now officially surpassed Exxon, Shell, and BP in annual greenhouse gas emissions.
  • With only four of the 35 giving complete and credible emissions estimates, the majority of the top meat and dairy producers either underreport or do not report their emissions.
  • In order to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050, we must cut down on global emissions by 38 billion tons. But if meat and dairy continue to grow as experts predict, the livestock industry could produce 80 percent of the allowable greenhouse gas emissions quota in just 32 years.

These eye-opening statistics show just how bad things really are and point to an urgent need for a solution. As GRAIN researcher Devlin Kuyek put it, “There’s no other choice. Meat and dairy production in the countries where the top 35 companies dominate must be significantly reduced.”

Well, that’s a bummer. Come on, Warmists, stop eating meat, give up dairy, and stop using fossil fueled vehicles. They won’t.

Really, though, this has been known for a long time, going back to the early days when it was called man-caused global warming. We knew that agriculture, along with landfills, was much worse in terms of greenhouse gas release than pretty much anything else mankind was involved in. But, see, methane wasn’t as sexy as “carbon pollution,” because of all the jokes about farts. And, early stage Warmists didn’t want to appear to be total cranks by recommending that government reduce the availability of food.
