Peak Wokeness: Conor Daly Has Sponsorship Pulled Over Something His Dad Said….Before He Was Born

Hey, what was the whole talking point from the leftist pro-illegal alien crowd about not punishing the kids for the sins of the parents?

https://twitter.com/LilMissRightie/status/1033158419283361794

From the article

Lilly Diabetes has pulled its sponsorship of Conor Daly’s No. 6 car in the NASCAR Xfinity race at Road America, citing a racially insensitive remark made by the driver’s father in the 1980s that surfaced this week.

Lilly said in a statement Friday that its sponsorship was intended to raise awareness for treatment options and resources for people living with diabetes.

“Unfortunately, the comments that surfaced this week by Derek Daly distract from this focus, so we have made the decision that Lilly Diabetes will no longer run the No. 6 at Road America this weekend,” Lilly said. (snip)

In a statement, Daly said he admitted to using a racial slur for African-Americans during a radio interview in the early 1980s. Daly, who had just moved to the United States then, said the term had a different meaning and connotation in his native Ireland.

Daly said he was “mortified’” when he learned how the term was used in the United States and has never used it since then. Conor Daly, 26, wasn’t born when his father made the comment.

“Finally, I want everyone to know I deeply regret and sincerely apologize for what I said more than three decades ago,” the elder Daly said in his statement.

He used a statement that was common in Ireland, Britain, and Australia, and, come on, this was 30 years ago. Conor wasn’t even born yet. How is this even a controversy? Oh, right, 2018.

Peak Woke: Trump Can Be Impeached Without Having Committed A Crime

Peak woke is synonymous with unhinged wanker barking moonbat (video available at the link)

Dem Rep Green: Trump Doesn’t Need to Commit a Crime to Be Impeached — 218 House Members Decide

Thursday on “Democracy Now,” Rep. Al Green (D-TX) said President Donald Trump could be impeached without having committed a crime.

Green said, “This is a very sad time in the history of our country. This is not something that I enjoy talking about, nor is it something that I would like to do. But I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that the president will have two options: One, he can resign from office, or, two, he can face impeachment. Impeachment is something that the Framers of the Constitution provided for a time such as this and a president such as Trump. The president does not have to commit a crime to be impeached. In fact, the president is not likely to be indicted, which means he’s not likely to be found guilty of a crime while he’s sitting, which means that if this comes before the House, it won’t come before the House as a president who has been found guilty, but rather as a president who is alleged to have committed certain offenses that are onerous to the Constitution and that harm society. And what this president is doing is harming society.”

Uh huh

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. (Article II, Section 4)

I missed the part about not having to have committed a crime nor about “harming society.” Democrats like Green should think long and hard about this, because they could set a precedent that comes back and takes a big chomp out of their posteriors, much like with Obama’s pen and phone, and Harry Reid nuking the filibuster.

Anyhow, everyone has to love this

Hawaii To Soon Be Totally Overrun With Hurricanes Or Something

So, because Hawaii is getting soaked by a hurricane, which is a rare occurrence, but does happen once in a blue moon, this is occasion to fear-monger over what the Cult Of Climastrology prognosticates will happen, and they completely know it’s totally going to happen. Here’s uber-CoC fear-mongerer Seth Borenstein

Science Says: Hawaii hurricanes rare, but getting less so

Hurricanes seldom get close to Hawaii and it’s even rarer for one of the islands to take a direct hit.

Hurricane Lane is already drenching and pummeling the island chain, even without reaching land.

The last time a major hurricane hit Hawaii was in 1992 when Category 4 Iniki caused billions in damage. On average, the central Pacific hurricane region, which includes Hawaii, sees about four or five storms moving through, but that may be changing with global warming.

Of course it is, and it’s all because Al Gore travels around on fossil fueled private jets.

While climate scientists are reluctant to link individual weather events or even seasons to global warming, they can make the connections with elaborate detailed studies. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration climate scientist Hiro Murakami, Vecchi and others studied the 2014 hurricane season around Hawaii and found it was “made substantially more likely” by climate change caused by emissions from burning coal, oil and gas, with a natural boost from El Nino.

“More likely” is a guess, not science. Especially since there’s very little data

In a study last year, they also connected global warming to 2015’s record number of major storms in the region, including three Category 4 hurricanes in the central and eastern Pacific at the same time. These studies are limited because of weak records of storms in the area before 1970, Vecchi said.

No worries, we have computer models.

Many climate studies recently predict that as the world warms, the globe overall and the Atlantic region will have fewer named storms but more intense ones. However, the central Pacific bucks that prediction.

Several studies forecast that the central Pacific will become busier with more storms, stronger storms and faster developing ones, Vecchi said. A Murakami study used computer simulations to predict a noticeable increase in storms around the Hawaiian Islands.

Hot Take: Blame Misogyny For Murder Of Mollie Tibbetts, Not Immigration

There have been quite a few hot-takes from Democratic Party supporters of illegal aliens, here’s one that’s scorching

Don’t blame immigration for Mollie Tibbetts’ death, blame misogyny

“Don’t talk to strangers,” we tell our daughters when they are little. “Look both ways when you cross the road.” Later, we will warn them about the unintended consequences of alcohol and drugs, and unprotected sex. We will encourage them to feel confident and stand up for themselves, but exercise caution and avoid unfamiliar places after dark. Our society will urge them to heed the advice of doctors and maybe clergy, their parents and grandparents.

Meanwhile, bit by bit, we see the value of those lessons diminish.

It is likely none of those standard admonitions could have saved Mollie Tibbetts. As of this writing, we don’t know the full details of her death, only that her body was found in a cornfield and police believe they have the murderer. We know she had gone out for an evening jog. We know he followed her. And we know from history that that simple activity, which enhances women’s strength and independence, can also make them vulnerable.

This missive is by Rekha Basu of the Des Moines Register, republished in the USA Today. She goes on to note other things about women being killed due to “misogyny”, leading to

Yet rather than focus on reducing violence against women, some top Republicans from President Donald Trump to Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds to Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, had another agenda. They rushed to blame arrested suspect Cristhian Bahena Rivera’s immigration status, which itself remains unclear. The state Division of Criminal Investigation called him an illegal immigrant. But his lawyer said he was in the country legally, and his employer, Craig Lang of Yarrabee Farms, said his legal status had been verified, but later said he had been hired under a different name. It’s conceivable they didn’t vet him properly or that they knew and hired him anyway, much like managers at Agriprocessors meat-packing plant in Postville were accused of doing before the 2008 raid there.

Notice how after every mass shooting, some top Republicans are in a hurry to deny the proliferation of guns was in any way responsible. Lately, they’ve been blaming mental illness. But in Rivera’s case, there is political currency in conflating the lack of a visa with violence, even though studies show undocumented immigrants commit no more violent crimes than the native-born population. A 2016 study showed the U.S. immigrant population rose 118 percent from 1980 through 2016 but the rate of violent crimes fell by 36 percent.

Notice how after every criminal incident by people who should not even be in the United States Democrats are in a hurry to find some way, any way, to protect the illegal aliens. Crime stats are immaterial: Mollie would not have been murdered had Rivera not been unlawfully present in the U.S. The headline uses “death”, but, it was murder.

Here’s a question: why can’t it be both misogyny and immigration? In Liberal World, it’s because they’re invested in protecting illegal aliens/immigration. Interestingly, we see way more misogyny within Liberal supported institutions: Hollywood, colleges, and so forth.

Mollie would be alive if Rivera was stopped from being in the nation. Democrats would rather support illegal aliens over American women.

#NetNeutrality: Verizon Throttled California Firefighters Or Something

The supporters of the Obama era Net Neutrality, which would have turned the Internet into a public utility the same was the 1940’s wired phone service was, think they totally have the perfect example as to why Net Neutrality is needed. Here’s big NN supporter (and unhinged lunatic) Alyssa Milano

Let’s see that story which is causing her, her followers, and other NN supporters to freak out

As wildfires burned over a million acres in California this summer, one San Francisco Bay Area fire department used its cellphone network to coordinate trucks and personnel from all over the state – until the department reached its data limit and its service provider slowed down data speeds.

This week, in documents submitted as evidence in a lawsuit over the Federal Communications Commission’s repeal of net neutrality rules, Santa Clara County Fire Chief Tony Bowden detailed how Verizon’s rules over what happens when customers go over the data limits on its plans disrupted devices essential to his department for coordination of firefighting resources.

Bowden said in the declaration, first reported by “Ars Technica,” that the Santa Clara County Fire Department had an unlimited data plan with Verizon but internet service slowed to 1/200th normal speed after the SCCFD reached 25 gigabytes of data usage.

Verizon refused to lift the restrictions on data speeds until the fire department upgraded to a more expensive service plan, Bowden said.

We totally need Net Neutrality, how dare they slow the speed down….wait, what was that part about slowing down after reaching 25GB?

Slowing down data speeds after a customer reaches its monthly data limit is a common practice among internet service providers and cellular carriers that’s known as throttling. Users can still access the cellular network for basic services like email or web browsing, but speeds are often too slow for activities like video streaming.

You get what you pay for. Providers often offer plans where you are unlimited, but only so much is at high speed. After that, it’s at a slower speed. This is exactly what the Santa Clara County firefighters had. It’s right there in the plan

The slowing stopped after the fire department paid Verizon for more data.

Your car isn’t moving till you put more gas in it. Not a perfect analogy, but, hey, it’s 645am, and you get the idea.

The repeal of the Obama-era Open Internet Order ended the previous consumer protections that prevented Internet service providers from blocking or slowing legal traffic, or charging for faster delivery of some content. Under the new law, ISPs are required to disclose any blocking, throttling or prioritization of their own content or from their partners on customers’ broadband connections, and more of the burden falls to the consumer to complain or simply switch providers. Verizon and other major telecom and Internet providers lobbied to overturn the old rules, saying they were unnecessarily burdensome.

Even with Obama’s NN this would still occur, as that was the plan the firefighters signed up for.

That all said, was still rather a dick move by Verizon, which could have earned itself some good will by giving the firefighters a temporary boost while fighting the fires.

Next Warmist/Enviroweenie Target: Halogen Light Bulbs

This is For Your Own Good

Europe to ban halogen lightbulbs

After nearly 60 years of brightening our homes and streets, halogen lightbulbs will finally be banned across Europe on 1 September.

The lights will dim gradually for halogen. Remaining stocks may still be sold, and capsules, linear and low voltage incandescents used in oven lights will be exempted. But a continent-wide switchover to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is underway that will slash emissions and energy bills, according to industry, campaigners and experts.

LEDs consume five times less energy than halogen bulbs and their phase-out will prevent more than 15m tonnes of carbon emissions a year, an amount equal to Portugal’s annual electricity usage.

Sure, you could save more money. But, that should be your own choice, not Governments.

But that has not stopped a perennial tabloid crusade against interference from Brussels – and the revival of timeworn Brexiteer campaign themes.

Jonathan Bullock, Ukip’s energy spokesman in the European parliament told the Guardian: “The EU’s attempt to ban halogen bulbs is wrong because consumers will suffer financially and it’s always the poorest who suffer most from these kinds of policies.”

“Customers should have the freedom of choice in bulbs and it shouldn’t be imposed by the EU.”

They should. Halogens are actually sort of incandescents, just a bit more energy saving. They are used extensively for auto headlamps and lights, in under-cabinet lights, and many other applications. Personally, I try and avoid them for the home, as they put out heat more than other bulbs, and I choose to use LEDs and CFLs (I have a bunch of nice ones, and use the Phillips Hue bulbs in several lamps, so they are voice activated, I can set a time, and have different types of light output). But, it’s a choice. Not a government mandate controlling your behavior.

Iowa Democrats Still Sticking With Pro-Illegal Immigration Platform

Just like the national Democratic figures, those in Iowa are uncaring that people who shouldn’t even be in this country are harming US citizens, and will stick with their pro-illegals stance

Iowa Dems reject ‘partisan fight’ over Mollie Tibbetts as platform opposes enforcing federal immigration laws

The killing of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts, allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant, has placed a spotlight on the state’s Democratic party, which this summer denounced federal immigration laws and called for local officials not to enforce them.

But Iowa Democratic party officials on Wednesday would not say whether they stood by their immigration platform, and instead characterized the matter as a “partisan fight.”

“The Iowa Democratic Party is going to honor the wishes of the Tibbetts family to let them grieve in private and will not turn this senseless tragedy into a partisan fight,” Iowa Democratic Party chairman Troy Price told Fox News.

The national uproar over Tibbetts’ slaying also threatens to upend two key House races underway in the state, which are considered potentially pivotal to Democrats’ chances of retaking the House in November’s midterm elections.

The 2018 Iowa Democratic Party platform, in a section entitled “Statement of Issues,” reads: “We oppose: detaining undocumented minors, immigrant detention/deportation quotas, locally enforcing federal immigration laws, mass raids/related enforcement practices, religious exclusion, ‘papers please,’ unnecessary travel-bans, abrogating birthright-citizenship, separating minor children from their parents when they are trying to enter the country, internment and concentration camps.”

The Iowa Democrats and the people running to unseat Republicans are hoping this all blows over, because being pro-illegal alien certainly won’t help their chances of winning those seats. And it just goes to show that Democrats prioritize illegal aliens over U.S. citizens.

Who’s Surprised That Hurricane Lane Is Being Linked To ‘Climate Change’

It really is utterly unsurprising that members of the Cult of Climastrology would link Hurricane Lane to ‘climate change’: it’s what they do. But, look who we catch first

Then

Holthaus is a massive roll.

There’s plenty of good material, some of which even blames volcanoes and earthquakes on anthropogenic climate change. And there are many articles, too, such as this one by Vox

The state of Hawaii is facing a rare threat: A Category 4 hurricane is moving toward it, with hurricane watches and warnings in effect for most of the islands.

Hawaii is no stranger to natural hazards like volcanic eruptions (remember Kilauea?). But due to high-pressure weather patterns over the central Pacific, and a lot of deep, cool water around the islands, tropical storms usually steer clear.

It’s unclear if the storm — which is currently howling with 155 mph winds — will just graze the islands as it approaches on Thursday, or if it will make landfall. It’s expected to weaken a bit over the next day, but will remain “a dangerous hurricane as it approaches the islands,” the National Weather Service warns.

In fact, only two hurricanes have hit Hawaii in modern history, Dot in 1959 and Iniki in 1992. Obviously, though, Lane is ‘climate change’

As CNN reports, a named storm passes within 60 miles of Hawaii every four years or so. But it’s also the case that the Pacific waters around the islands are about a degree Fahrenheit warmer than usual, which is helping to fuel Lane’s powerful wind speeds.

Scientists will have to do careful work to model whether this storm was made bigger and more powerful by climate change. We already know many storms are made wetter by climate change, and the science predicts that bigger and more powerful storms will become more frequent in the future.

This is the way many, many news outlets are positioning Lane. Skirting the edges, but planting the seeds that this is all your fault for eating that moo cow steak the other night.
