Obama Admin To Bahrain Protesters: GFYS

Democracy is all fine and dandy in a speech, but, when it comes to backing it up, Team Obama couldn’t care less

MANAMA, Bahrain — Hundreds of members of Bahrain’s Shiite Muslim majority protested outside the U.S. Embassy on Monday to appeal for Washington to back their campaign for greater political freedom.

The embassy said staff met with the protesters and reiterated the Obama administration’s commitment to the “partnership with the government and the people of Bahrain.”

The statement also urged “all parties to work immediately to begin a dialogue,” but cautioned talks will only be successful if they will “lead to concrete actions and reforms,” the embassy said.

In political speak, that means the protesters can go fuck themselves, and Obama is too busy to be bothered.

  1. No, I’m thinking it means “nice little oasis you (we) have here. Don’t go and f**k it up.” Obama admin on the side of stability in Bahrain. Go figure.

Remember when they used to call Bush, the Saudi kiss-ass? Said he was too cozy with the Saudis? Didn’t want to rock the boat when it came to oil prices?!?!?!

    hmmmmm.

  3. I can see your point LAS. I think, though, that Obama just can’t be bothered.

Not sure if Obama is really cozy with th Saudis, but, he is certainly deferential.

  5. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think BHO has any hands-on influence on foreign affairs whatsoever (as you said, he can’t be bothered – he’s busy transforming the USA). This explains to a large extent the inconsistent foreign policy voice of this admin (no leadership from the top). If the US is actively pursuing a “stability-over-mob-rule” policy in Bahrain, it’s probably on the initiative of 2nd & 3rd tier officials in the embassy.
