Planet War: A New Name for the ‘Global War on Terror’?

Peter_Feaver | Debating the proper label for this conflict is a hardy perennial of national security professionals and arm-chair experts. The arrival of a new President, however, makes this debate especially timely. Many pundits have urged that the next administration end the global war on terror (GWOT), meaning it should stop calling it a war and relabel it as something else. I say call it a long global struggle like the Cold War, long global struggle for short. Bill thinks that there is no “war,” just counter-terrorism efforts. What would you call it?

This comes from the Washington Post groups section, and that last link directs people to the thread where they can leave their ideas. And this definitely shows the mindset of those on the Left: it’s not a war, it’s not a conflict, just a police action with some military efforts now and then, and let’s not forget diplomacy with the little jihadis! This would be like Britain deciding to call their war with Germany a cross channel struggle.

And it is a war. Al Qaeda and other Islamic groups have declared war on Western civilization and values.

But, if we are going to rename it to suit President Neophyte, let’s call it “The war where we need to rip jihadi heads off because they want to make sure that the middle class gets no tax breaks or health insurance.” Maybe then he will be truly engaged.

  1. Maggie Mama says:

Obama’s war on terror will be called “pro-active diplomacy”.

Doesn’t that sound “friendlier”. The MSM will love it.
