Bat Soup Virus Shows We Need A Modern Socialist Economy For Well-being Or Something

Nope, the Cult of Climastrology won’t give up on their push to make Coronavirus all about ‘climate change’ fixes, forgetting that things are already starting to recover and Warmists do not practice what they preach

Coronavirus shows why we need an economy designed for wellbeing

We have been starkly reminded of the importance of our health – both physical and mental. During lockdown, we have missed giving and receiving affection with friends and family who don’t live with us. We worry about the gap in our childrens’ schooling.

We might miss going to work, feeling like we have a purpose, and having the time or space to do the things we enjoy. We dislike our freedoms being constrained and feeling unable to influence the decision making of local and national governments.

Which is interesting, since these same Warmists were also part of the group telling people to STAY HOME OR YOU’LL KILL GRANDMA, effectively wanting the economy destroyed. They couldn’t have possibly have had an ulterior motive, right?

As we move forwards, we should consider maintaining some of these new approaches to satisfying our needs, and we will certainly want to change others. But crucially, we now know we have the capacity to change the way we satisfy our needs – so that every individual has a decent standard of living, and we live safely within the environmental limits of our planet.

Just say it already, you want a hardcore leftist government run economic system. Stop beating around the bush.

Before the pandemic we had become too focused on the means by which we satisfy our needs, rather than on our needs themselves. At a personal level, we focused on increasing our income and wealth, whilst ignoring some of our core needs by working too much so we could consume things that don’t make us happy. At a societal level, we focused on increasing GDP, without realising that it is not possible to separate increased economic activity from increased environmental pressures.

Of course, stark reductions in income make the situation all the more dire. But it is not the lack of money in itself that is a problem, it is the fact that a lack of money can prevent us from satisfying our needs in our current economy. Lack of money can prevent us from buying food, paying rent or utilities, socialising with friends – the things we need to live well. (snip)

If we want to build back better after the pandemic, to tackle the climate crisis alongside inequality and deprivation, it is clear that we must not go back to relying on our past methods of satisfying needs. They were leading us to stark social and environmental issues, with not enough progress being made in terms of emissions reductions or poverty reduction, for example.

They just can’t help themselves. It is also interesting they Warmists always want to tell Other People how to lead their lives, and are willing to get Government to force those lifestyle changes.

A majority of people want us to prioritise wellbeing over GDP, according to a recent YouGov poll. The time is ripe for decision-makers to start involving their citizens more meaningfully and start listening. A focus on wellbeing will ensure we do not lose sight of what is truly important, while finding out the best ways to get there, together.

That poll is for the U.K. Perhaps they should give it a whirl, serving as the experimental group to show us that this doesn’t work. Did we all enjoy the test drive of a climate cultist enacted policy world?

Durham, NC Joins The “Defund” Bandwagon

For those who live in North Carolina, and especially the Triangle area, Durham is considered to be one of the most criminal cities, if not the most criminal, in NC. Shootings, burglaries, assaults, property crimes. There are sections of Durham where you just do not go, even in the daytime. Many stores have bullet proof plexiglass where the money is taken. So, yeah, let’s defund the police

Defunding police part of discussion for Durham, as council votes on new budget

In cities across the country, some protesters calling for change are demanding that funding be cut to police departments. The idea of “defunding police departments” is gaining momentum as cities and counties look for the way forward after the death of George Floyd.

Gaining traction in Democrat run cities by uber-leftists. One has to wonder what the average Democrat thinks of this, wondering just who in the hell comes when they have been robbed, their car has been stolen, they’ve been raped, a family member has been murdered. They’re surely wondering who will stop crime, arrest criminals, and work to reduce crime. Oh, and they’re surely wondering if they will be able to sell their homes and get the hell out of dodge beforehand.

As concerned citizens question what “defunding the police” could look like locally, North Carolina municipal y leaders are getting ready to vote on new budgets.

First of all, leaders explain, any change would be gradual. Nothing would happen overnight.

Who would replace police?

The group Durham Beyond Policing explained that cities could form Crisis Intervention Teams. But primarily, their focus is on redirecting money to tackle the root causes of crime. The group believes rather than giving more money to police, cities should prioritize things like community centers, youth organizations and food security.

So, what, Government is going to run youth groups, indoctrinating them? Running supermarkets? Has any reporter asked a rather important question of these defund nutters, namely “government has already spent enormous amounts on education and projects to “tackle the root causes of crime”: how is removing the police going to help? What specific projects would tackle those root causes?”

One member of the group, Danielle Purifoy, said, “The institutions that we have right now, if they were invested in the ways that we invest in the police, would do a much better job of keeping us safe than the police do now.”

The thing is, these types of folks are typically long on talking points and short on actual plans.

Jillian Johnson, who serves as mayor pro tempore and on Durham City Council, said, “Some cities have Crisis Response Teams that are unarmed.”

In all fairness, things like that are not bad ideas. We don’t always need to send armed law enforcement officers for every call. The LA Times editorial board actually has some good ideas along these lines, and are also not down with the whole defund thing. Let’s say it’s just reducing the police budget heavily: can you guess who gets hurt the most? Law enforcement will spend more of their limited money, time, and resources in the middle and upper class neighborhoods, both residential and business. The poor sections will get a driveby patrol now and then. It’ll basically be mid-90’s Detroit.

Good point. All those mayors and city council members, nutters like Ilhan Omar and AOC, and others calling for defunding the police should have their own security pulled. Further, let’s ban the use of private security in those same cities.

Say, Why Is There All This Systemic Racism In Democratic Party Run Areas?

George Korda of the Knoxville News Sentinel asks some very inconvenient questions as published in the USA Today, all three of which are surely going to be assaulted by the SJW forces

Democrats have run Minneapolis for generations. Why is there still systemic racism?

My home town newspaper published a front-page photo on Wednesday with a caption about protests against “systemic police brutality against people of color.”

Systemic racism is being discussed a great deal in the wake of George Floyd’s death under the knee of now-former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. (snip)

On social media the other day, in discussions of George Floyd’s death, I saw an increasing number of references from Democrats and Democratic friends about the problem of systemic racism. I wrote the following post, citing only a few municipal examples:

“Below are pertinent questions, given the way the Democratic Party defines itself as being the party of tolerance and inclusion, and many Democrats’ characterizations of Republicans or conservatives as racists or racially insensitive.

“Minneapolis, Minn. has been under Democratic control since 1978. Chicago has been under Democratic control for 89 years; its present mayor is a black woman. Philadelphia has had Democratic mayors for 68 years; three of its last five mayors have been black men. Six of the last seven Atlanta, Ga., mayoral administrations were led by black Democratic mayors, and the present mayor is a black woman.

“A city runs its police department and other services; therefore, if there is so much ‘systemic racism’ in these organizations, why hasn’t it been corrected over so many years under Democratic leaders?

“Why aren’t these cities garden spots of racial tolerance, understanding, and virtue?”

There have been no answers.

Nor will there be answers. This is very inconvenient for Democrats. Perhaps blacks should be asking “what has the Democratic Party really done for me?”

When people talk about the need to deal with systemic racism, if they’re not willing to talk about the systems run — often for generations by the political party or politicians they support — they aren’t interested in an open and honest conversation; instead, they want only to use the issue as a club against people who aren’t them.

Make sure to read it in full. And ask the question “why do black people have it so bad in areas run by Democrats?”

NC Racetrack Labels Race As Peaceful Protest

I wish my gym would do something like this

From the incredibly leftist Durham Herald Sun, which doesn’t seem happy

Racing took place on Saturday night at Ace Speedway in Alamance County, with at least a couple of thousand fans in attendance.

On Friday, Sheriff Terry Johnson said his officers would be there to enforce Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order that limits outdoor gatherings to 25 people as part of the state’s efforts to combat the coronavirus. Johnson made it clear he did not agree with the order.

It does not look like that happened, though, as a reporter from a Gannett newspaper who was on the scene said there were at least 2,000 people in the stands. (snip)

“This sign is outside of Ace Speedway tonight,” Ferguson tweeted on Saturday from the track. “Governor Roy Cooper urged Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson to enforce his executive order in phase 2, which said no more than 25 people can gather. Ace Speedway said tonight’s race is a peaceful protest.”

Saturday marked the speedway’s third racing night of the season, and second since drawing a rebuke from Cooper.

This is the same Governor Cooper who marched with protesters last Monday, not following social distancing protocols, and said nary a word about hundreds and hundreds gathered together to protest. The gov wants it both ways.

Racism Is Killing The Planet With ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

See, there are still a few articles about Hotcoldwetdry which bring in Coronavirus, particularly when discussing economic recovery, but, the climate cultists are mostly now moving on from Bat Soup Virus and attempting to hijack Black Lives Matter

Racism Is Killing the Planet

Last week, my family and I attended an interfaith rally in Los Angeles in defense of Black life. We performed a group ritual in which we made noise for nine minutes to mark the last moments of George Floyd’s life. My wife, my oldest daughter, and I played African drums to mark those nine minutes with the rhythm of a beating heart. Da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, over and over again.

While we drummed, I realized how difficult it is to keep up any physical activity for nine minutes straight. Most of us can’t even sit completely still on our butts for nine minutes; if you’ve ever meditated, you understand why they refer to sitting as practice.

As I struggled to maintain my posture and keep up the rhythm, I thought about the level of commitment it takes to hold someone down for nine minutes straight. The realization horrified me. The cop who has been charged with murdering George Floyd had to have been deeply committed to taking his life. The police officer had so many chances to let up the pressure, to let George live. Yet the officer made the choice not to.

To spend nine minutes taking the life-breath from another person: That is what white supremacy does to white people. That is what white supremacy does to the rest of us too. White supremacy robs each of us of our humanity. It causes white people to view Black people as less than human. Every one of those cops watching George die was convinced that the man pinned to the ground was less than human, was in some way disposable.

Here’s one question: how do we know Chauvin is a white supremacist, and not just a murderous asshole? Another question would be “why do things like this mostly happen in areas run by Democrats?” And yet another would be “what is your plan to deal with this other than drumming for 9 minutes?” Oh, and, how about “why is the Sierra Club so overwhelmingly white in their employment and the people who support them? Hop Hopkins, who writes this article, is one of the very, very few black voices working for the Sierra Club

An idea—a long-overdue realization—is growing in the environmental movement. It goes something like this: “We’ll never stop climate change without ending white supremacy.” This argument has entered the outdoor recreation and conservation space thanks to the leadership of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color in the climate justice movement. The idea has taken on new force as folks in the mainstream environmental movement do our best to show up for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and all the Black people still living and subject to police violence.

I know that a lot of people are struggling with the thought that addressing the environmental crises must involve dismantling white supremacy. At Sierra Club meetings, some people hear me say something like that and think, “Damn, fighting climate change wasn’t hard enough already? Now we have to end racism and white supremacy too? Seriously, man?” (snip)

Here’s why: You can’t have climate change without sacrifice zones, and you can’t have sacrifice zones without disposable people, and you can’t have disposable people without racism.(snip)

In order to treat places and resources as disposable, the people who live there have to get treated like rubbish too. Sacrifice zones imply sacrificed people. Just think of Cancer Alley in Louisiana. Most of the towns there are majority Black, and nowadays they call it Death Alley, because so many Black folks have died from the poison that drives our extractive economy. Or think of the situation in the Navajo Nation, where uranium mines poisoned the wells and the groundwater and coal plants for decades poisoned the air. Or consider the South Side of Chicago, where I used to live, which for years was a dumping ground of petroleum coke (a fossil fuel byproduct) and where residents are still struggling against pollution-related diseases. I’ve lived in a lot of places, and just about every place I’ve ever lived has been targeted by big polluters as a dumping ground.

You know what the weird thing is? The vast majority of these “disposable zones” are in areas run by the Democratic Party. It’s almost like the party of the KKK and Jim Crow, who was a lot against the Civil Rights Act, has switched to patronizing blacks with free money and crappy affordable housing (paid by government) and all sorts of stuff to get their vote but really think of them as disposable, and it’s easier to control black people if you keep lots in areas that are “disposable”.

If all of this seems too neat a narrative, I’d ask if you remember Hurricane Katrina. In the aftermath of the storm, Black people who were just out looking for essential supplies were described by the news media as “looting” a grocery store. White people who were doing the same thing were described as “finding” bread and water. I’d ask if you remember Eric Garner and Dylan Roof. Eric Garner was choked to death by police for selling “loosies,” or single cigarettes. Dylan Roof murdered nine Black people during a Bible study group at their church; after being arrested, the police bought him a meal at a Burger King on the way to the police station.

Can someone explain to Hop which political party most of the media votes for and covers for and uses their talking points?

All I know is that if climate change and environmental injustice are the result of a society that values some lives and not others, then none of us are safe from pollution until all of us are safe from pollution. Dirty air doesn’t stop at the county line, and carbon pollution doesn’t respect national borders. As long as we keep letting the polluters sacrifice Black and brown communities, we can’t protect our shared global climate.

It’s a very long screed, long on whines, short on offering any solutions. But, I’ll give it an A for effort for attempting to hijack the George Floyd movement, which will cause lots of people to tune out to the notion that there really does need to be some reform in law enforcement, from the FBI to state, county, and local police.

Minneapolis City Council Looks To Dismantle Police Department

See, when they told us that they wanted to defund the police, they really didn’t mean they wanted to actually to defund the police, just to reduce their budgets by large amounts, right? No more precincts in black communities, right?

Minneapolis City Council announces veto-proof push to disband police in George Floyd aftermath

Minneapolis’ left-leaning City Council members on Sunday announced a veto-proof push to disband the Minneapolis police department, ramping up a major conflict inside the city following the death of George Floyd while in police custody.

Many activists have been pushing at least for their cities to defund local police departments, a move many other analysts considered unrealistic. The measure has been the main focus for many people protesting against police brutality.

Supporters of the move told Fox News, “We recognize that we don’t have all the answers about what a police-free future looks like, but our community does. We’re committing to engaging with every willing community member in the city of Minneapolis over the next year to identify what safety looks like for you.”

The city council members spoke at a protest at Powderhorn Park, a neighborhood in Minneapolis. The number of supporters in attendance represented a veto-proof majority to push the measure through, Fox 9 reported.

See, not defund, dismantle. They have absolutely no plan as to what happens without a police department, what replaces it, who deals with crime, anything, but, they’re charging full ahead. It’d be funny as hell if every officer up and quit, went to work elsewhere. Let’s see how much city council members like calling 911 and having a social worker come by to give them a hug and a lecture on their privilege.

Meanwhile, the major of Minneapolis, and utter simp, is against the plan

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Sunday reiterated that he doesn’t support abolishing the city’s police force, hours after a veto-proof majority of members of the Minneapolis City Council said they want to take that drastic step in the wake of the in-custody death of George Floyd.

Frey, who ordered a police station to evacuate as rioters burned it to the ground last month, was shouted down by a large gathering of demonstrators near his home on Saturday when he defied their demands to shutter the city’s police forces entirely.

“I’ll work relentlessly with Chief [Medaria] Arradondo and alongside community toward deep, structural reform and addressing systemic racism in police culture,” Frey said in a statement to KARE. “We’re ready to dig in and enact more community-led, public safety strategies on behalf of our city. But, I do not support abolishing the Minneapolis Police Department.”

Frey is about to learn all about the SJW virtue signaling cancel culture mob made up of Democratic Party voters who will come after him. If everything holds to form, they will be calling for his head, wanting to have a recall vote if he won’t resign, wanting their pound of flesh. Good luck mayor! You’re about to get an abject lesson in leftist politics.

NPR Really Wants You To Burn Your White Author Books

We interrupt your normally scheduled ‘climate change’ article for publicly funded calls to “burn” books

NPR Advises Readers to ’Decolonize” Their Bookshelves by Removing White Authors

National Public Radio (NPR) posted a tweet Saturday urging every reader to begin “decolonizing your bookshelf.”

According to NPR, “white voices have dominated what has been considered canon for eons.” The public broadcaster advises fans to begin “decolonizing your bookshelf” by removing the works of white authors.

NPR suggests that “decolonizing your bookshelf” is about “about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling, and literature that have pervaded the American psyche for so long.”

They posit:

If you are white, take a moment to examine your bookshelf. What do you see? What books and authors have you allowed to influence your worldview, and how you process the issues of racism and prejudice toward the disenfranchised? Have you considered that, if you identify as white and read only the work of white authors, you are in some ways listening to an extension of your own voice on repeat? While the details and depth of experience may differ, white voices have dominated what has been considered canon for eons.

U, no thanks. I like the books I like. Quite frankly, I don’t even consider the color of the science fiction, horror (especially zombie), and thriller authors I read. If they happen to be white, well, they’re writing stuff I’m interested in.

But, here’s the big thing: this is the kind of crazy that is going to drive people away. Virtually everyone agreed that the killing of George Floyd was a tragedy and a horrible thing and we do need to look at reform for law enforcement (interestingly, Liberals don’t see the need to reform the heavily politicized FBI). Conservatives and Liberals are in agreement that some law enforcement is out of control and we don’t like the militarization of law enforcement. Then we get the riots and looting and vandalism and property destruction and assault. Calls to defund the police. Assaulting and blaming police who had nothing to do with the murder. Mixing in ‘climate change’. Demeaning white people (even though a goodly chunk of police shootings are done by non-white officers). Threats. Mixing in gender confused stuff. And crazy crap like “burning” your books by white authors.

The Atlantic once wrote that Occupy Wall Street wouldn’t work

Any protest that hopes to accomplish some goal needs, well, a goal. If a demonstration like this lacks concrete objectives, then its purpose will be limited at best and nonexistent at worst. At this time, all the protest really appears to stand for is a general dislike of Wall Street. But what does that mean?

BLM has some goals, but, they are being shifted all over the place, and they are black supremacist and even racist to some degree. They are going to isolate themselves just like last time. OWS had their chance, I think most of us agreed that the super rich and big companies had power and the average citizen was ignored by government, then they went loony with all their SJW stuff. People will soon start tuning out from the current issue due to the same over-reach.
