HuffPo: DC’s Cherry Trees Blooming Early Proves Climate Change

It couldn’t possibly be due to natural variation, no, it has to be because you, dear reader, did not unplug your energy sucking DVR when you went to sleep last night

(HuffPo) Amid all the screaming signs about Global Warming’s increasingly serious impact on the world around us and on human civilizations future prospects, the ‘luxury’ symbolic canaries in the coal mine always create mixed emotions. Global Warming’s threat to skiing (and declining viable Winter Olympics locations), and to wine making and bourbon and beer and chocolate and maple syrup and … production, etc … Yes, these are tangible examples of how global warming impacts the world around us and impacts us. On the other hand, compared to increasing natural disasters, devastating storms and droughts threatening vulnerable populations andCherry Blossoms at Tidal Basin disruptions to global agricultural production systems, these are “luxury” items whose (in and of themselves) disruption does not represent a fundamental threat to human civilization (no matter how important the maple syrup for your pancakes or that bourbon for warming up after a day on the slopes). Yes, as we all know in our Madison Avenue dominated world, symbols matter and cherished symbols even more so.

The Washington Post featured, on its front page March 15, 2011, a story driven by 2012’s “early” blooming Cherry Blossoms (WT note: the 2011 is a HuffPo typo, the story is from 2012) and building on a November 11 published scientific study (full study here) from University of Washington (which has its own Cherry Blossoms) and Korean university researchers that looks to Global Warming’s likely impact on this cultural icon for the decades to come. As that study’s introduction noted, a 2001 study had already documented that

In the Washington, D.C. area, 89 of 100 plant species surveyed, including flowering cherry trees, exhibited a significant advance of 4.5 days in first-flowering over the 30 years from 1970 to 1999.

In short, their work suggests that Washington, D.C., will have to move the Cherry Blossom up by nearly a month by 2050 or risk having blossom-less trees for the parade.

Ah, the 2050 canard. Tell you what: I want you to use your computer models and tell us exatly when the trees will bloom each year over the next 10, and I’ll then buy into your cult.

In Reality Land, all this proves is that it was a mild winter. It was weather. After multiple harsh winters in a row. Which the Warmists blamed on human induced climate change (hoax). And it doesn’t prove anthropogenic causes. Just that the the Earth is currently in a warm period, which followed a cool period, which followed a period that was warmer than it is today, preceded by a cool period, and a warm period, and so on back to the last glacial period.

There is no factual evidence with proves that Mankind’s release of greenhouse gases is driving the climate, simply anecdotal fearmongering. If the Warmists really believed what they were pushing, they’d stop driving fossil fueled vehicles, taking unnecessary fossil fueled flights, charge their iPhones and iPads with solar chargers (who cares if it takes all day to charge? You’re Saving The Planet!!!!), unplug every appliance when you aren’t using it, and grow your own food. Oh, and don’t forget to install expensive solar panels on your home, live off the grid. So what if you can’t run your appliances? Again, you’re saving the planet!

But, hey, the climate alarmist models tell us exactly what will happen…..what? Their predictions were way off? Humph.

Obameconomy: Producer Prices Spike Up, Gen Y Loves Living With Parents

Yesterday, (NMP) Obama gave what was supposed to be an official POTUS speech on energy, and instead quickly morphed into a campaign speech where (NMP) Obama took shots at not only the GOP presidential candidates and elected Republicans, but at you and me, who think high gas prices are a Bad Idea, even going so far as to call people who want to “drill now” are “flat earthers.” Of course, he also screwed up his Rutherford B. Hayes talking points. Meanwhile, Obama seems to be missing Reality Land

(MSNBC) U.S. producer prices recorded their biggest gain in five months in February as the cost of energy spiked, a government report showed on Thursday, but underlying inflation pressures were contained.

The Labor Department said its seasonally adjusted producer price index increased 0.4 percent last month, quickening from January’s 0.1 percent gain.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected prices at farms, factories and refineries to rise 0.5 percent.

Wholesale prices excluding volatile food and energy costs rose 0.2 percent, moderating from January’s 0.4 percent increase. While that was in line with economists’ expectations, it was the third consecutive month of increases in core PPI.

The pain at the pump is only one component in rising real word producer prices, which hit most notable in the food industry. And producer prices affect consumer prices. Have you noticed prices at the supermarket going up? How about that dollar menu? Notice that many prices have bumped up to $1.29 for many fast food items? Rising producer prices means the producer has to walk a fine line between keeping the price of their products affordable and staying profitable. Sooner or later, the choices will be to either raise the prices or lay workers off as energy creeps up.

And then there’s the Gen Y “kids”

(MSNBC) You would think young adults stuck living at home with their parents would be sending texts of despair to friends about their lot in life.

Think again. Most Gen Yers think it’s gr8.

Three out of ten adults, ages 25 to 34, are living with their folks and of those 78 percent said they’re happy with it, according to a Pew Research survey released Thursday and titled “The Boomerang Generation: Feeling OK about Living with Mom and Dad.”

Strangely, 77% of these folks living with their parents have high economic expectations, which is strange because, well, they’re living at home with Mom and Dad because the economy sucks and they aren’t making the money they think they should nor working the job they deserve.

Welcome to the Obama Economy, which is only going to get worse. Once gas hits $4 a gallon on average, we’ll see things start to fall apart. Unlike the last time which was a spike, what we’re seeing now is a creep upwards to what many in the market think are permanent prices. Remember, this is what Obama wanted. But, there are no energy sources to take the place of the “old types” and bring prices back down, and won’t be for decades, at the earliest.

Say, Which Party Actually Features KKK Members?

I suppose it’s incumbent to post on this story, since it is my home state

(Charlotte Observer) Bivins Hollar likes to post videos from his bedroom. About weight loss. About Pokemon cards. About selling chewing gum at a flea market.

But it’s the video where he casually talks about “shooting” and starving black South Africans – and kidnapping the country’s president – that caught the attention of people who track white supremacists.

Hollar, who is running for the N.C. Senate from Catawba County, is one of two Democratic candidates whom state party officials have taken the unusual step of denouncing.

The other is Carrol Crawford, a former Ku Klux Klan leader once convicted of burning a cross in Charlotte. He’s running for Rowan County commissioner.

The NC Democrat Party is “disowning them”, as it should. They can’t stop the two for running as Democrats. Of course, Democrats still bring up David Duke as “proof” that the GOP is raaaaacist, despite the GOP disowning him from the get go. Oh, and the GOP never had a former KKK big wig serving in the US Senate, and certainly wouldn’t have made him Majority Leader.

Shocker: Obama, Cameron Agree On Oil Reserve Release In Election Year

Someone at Al Reuters has obviously been drinking heavily. How else to explain such a truth as this?

(Reuters) – Britain has decided to cooperate with the United States on a release of strategic oil stocks that is expected within months, two British sources said, in a bid to prevent fuel prices choking economic growth in a U.S. election year.

A formal request from the United States to the UK to join forces in a release of oil from government-controlled reserves is expected “shortly” following a meeting on Wednesday in Washington between President Barack Obama and Prime Minister David Cameron, who discussed the issue, one source said.

Britain would respond positively, the two sources said.

Details of the timing, volume and duration of a new emergency drawdown have yet to be settled but a detailed agreement is expected by the summer, one of the sources said.

Just in time for the last few months before the General Election. An obvious attempt to Do Something to help Obama get re-elected, rather than Do Something to help the American People.

Occupy Weenies Look For New Issue, Settle On Climate Change (Hoax)

Well, on the bright side, many of them were living like it was 1499 (well, except for the laptops, smartphones, cooking with fossil fuels, etc…but they were raping and living in their own filth like it was 1499)

(The Nation) Occupy Wall Street’s original Declaration of the City of New York, in September, listed a litany of issues, from foreclosures and bailouts to outsourcing and cruelty to animals, but it barely mentioned the environment and was silent on global warming and climate change. A resolution passed by consensus at a General Assembly this past January more than rectified the omission. It states, “We are at a dangerous tipping point in history. The destruction of our planet and climate change are almost at a point of no return.” The resolution links climate destruction to the shift in political power that lies at the heart of Occupy: “We must reclaim our democracy to protect our planet.”

The General Assembly resolution calls for a month of action, starting March 24 and leading up to Earth Day on April 22, to draw the Occupy movements across the country and around the world further into the struggle to protect the climate. “Earth Month,” which will target all fossil and nonrenewable fuels, is being spearheaded by a group from OWS called 99forEarth. The resolution also calls for “connecting the dots between the 1% and the destruction of the planet.” At one end of the chain are specific depredations on specific environments: “Our mountains in Appalachia are blasted; our drinking water in the northeast [is] threatened by fracking; our American heartland is charted for an oil pipeline; and our forests in the northwest [are] targeted for further deforestation.” Connect the dots and you find that the corporate destruction of the earth’s climate has been “financed by the 1%” and that a “small group of polluting businesses” have “hijacked our political system for their benefit.”

I’m sure, along with the old “spreading awareness (but Someone Else needs to cut back on their lifestyle, because I won’t)” campaigns, we’ll see the same old violence, especially with pithy movements such as Disrupt Dirty Power (I wonder how the Occutards will get to the demonstrations?). And there’s this

Saturday March 24rd – Occupy the Business of Pollution: A day of global direct action to disrupt and expose the dirty business as usual and its political supporters. We will occupy corrupt polluters and banks who support them like B of A, Chase and Citi, politicians and front groups like Duke Energy, ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, the American Petroleum Institute, through a diversity of creative actions on a local level.

Yup, sure to be violence.

Reauthorization Of Violence Against Women Act To Create Partisan Fight

Who could possibly be against the VAWA? Well, when it was first passed in 1994, the American Civil Liberties Union was, saying “that the increased penalties were rash, the increased pretrial detention was “repugnant” to the US Constitution, the mandatory HIV testing of those only charged but not convicted is an infringement of a citizen’s right to privacy and the edict for automatic payment of full restitution was non-judicious.” And they were really unhappy with the DNA provision. It’s been reauthorized in 2000, 2006, and is now up for re-authorization again

(NY Times) With emotions still raw from the fight over President Obama’s contraception mandate, Senate Democrats are beginning a push to renew the Violence Against Women Act, the once broadly bipartisan 1994 legislation that now faces fierce opposition from conservatives.

The fight over the law, which would expand financing for and broaden the reach of domestic violence programs, will be joined Thursday when Senate Democratic women plan to march to the Senate floor to demand quick action on its extension. Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, has suggested he will push for a vote by the end of March.

So, as usual, a bit of Kabuki theater.

Republicans are bracing for a battle where substantive arguments could be swamped by political optics and the intensity of the clash over women’s issues. At a closed-door Senate Republican lunch on Tuesday, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska sternly warned her colleagues that the party was at risk of being successfully painted as antiwoman — with potentially grievous political consequences in the fall, several Republican senators said Wednesday.

Why would Republicans be against the re-authorization as written? Because Senate Democrats included multiple poison pills

“I favor the Violence Against Women Act and have supported it at various points over the years, but there are matters put on that bill that almost seem to invite opposition,” said Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, who opposed the latest version last month in the Judiciary Committee. “You think that’s possible? You think they might have put things in there we couldn’t support that maybe then they could accuse you of not being supportive of fighting violence against women?”

Republicans say the measure, under the cloak of battered women, unnecessarily expands immigration avenues by creating new definitions for immigrant victims to claim battery. More important, they say, it fails to put in safeguards to ensure that domestic violence grants are being well spent. It also dilutes the focus on domestic violence by expanding protections to new groups, like same-sex couples, they say.

Everything was fine when the re-authorization process started in November, 2011, and then Democrats started adding things

The legislation “creates so many new programs for underserved populations that it risks losing the focus on helping victims, period,” Mr. Grassley said when the committee took up the measure. After his alternative version was voted down on party lines, the original passed without a Republican vote.

Women, and especially women who have been the targets of domestic violence, should be appalled that Democrats are using this legislation as a political football. Democrats are attempting to create a diversionary issue, one that deflects from their horrendous legislative record, especially Obama’s, where no issue should exist.

NAACP Requests UN Investigate U.S. Voter ID Laws

Yeah, too bad they have no legal jurisdiction over the United States, but, it makes for nice theater

(Fox News) The controversy over requiring voters to provide photo IDs has reached the world stage.

The United Nations Human Rights Council is investigating the issue of American election laws at its gathering on minority rights in Geneva, Switzerland.. This, despite the fact that some members of the council have only in the past several years allowed women to vote, and one member, Saudi Arabia, still bars women from the voting booth completely.

Officials from the NAACP are presenting their case against U.S. voter ID laws, arguing to the international diplomats that the requirements disenfranchise voters and suppress the minority vote.

So, the NAACP is arguing that Blacks aren’t capable of paying a low cost to get an ID card? That they aren’t smart enough to pass a drivers license test, and acquire a DL? Kinda, well, can’t be racist against ones own race, but, perhaps it violates Hate Crimes laws.

“This really is a tactic that undercuts the growth of your democracy,” said Hillary Shelton, the NAACP’s senior vice president for advocacy, about voter photo ID requirements.

In a Fox News interview prior to his trip, Shelton said the message from the NAACP delegation to the Human Rights Council is that the photo ID law “undercuts the integrity of our government, if you allow it to happen. It’s trickery, it’s a sleight-of-hand. We’re seeing it happen here and we don’t want it to happen to you, and we are utilizing the U.N. as a tool to make sure that we are able to share that with those countries all over the world.”

The United Nations has no legal jurisdiction over the American electoral system, which Shelton acknowledges. Asked whether he thinks that the U.N. should be involved in domestic American laws, he answered, “No, not specifically. The U.N. should certainly be involved in sharing a best practice for the world.”

Well, then, perhaps it undercuts our democracy and the integrity of government by requiring ID to drive, visit the White House, take an unnecessary fossil fueled flight…..hey, I bet Shelton was required to show his ID multiple times at the departure airport, and show his ID and passport at the Geneva airport upon arrival. Oh, and show his ID at the UN Headquarters in Geneva. Yes, that’s right, when visiting all UN headquarters, one needs to show an ID when passing through screening

One needs an ID card to visit all UN locations for tours, and to carry a special ID when visiting other than as a tourist.

The NAACP had scheduled two American citizens to present their claims at the U.N. panel who, the group says, worry they will be disenfranchised by the requirement to present a photo ID to vote. The civil rights group says one, Kemba Smith Pradia, was convicted of a drug-related offense and is concerned that if she moves back to Virginia from the Midwest, state law will block her voting because of her record, even though she was granted clemency by President Bill Clinton.

A second American, Austin Alex, is a Texas Christian University student. The NAACP says he is worried that he will be barred from voting because he only holds an out-of-state driver’s license and a non-government student ID, not a Texas issued photo ID.

As to the first, not enough info was given to discuss, but, being a convicted felon given clemency doesn’t seem to have anything to do with voter ID. For the second, well, if he isn’t a Texas resident, he shouldn’t be voting in Texas. While attending East Carolina U. in North Carolina, I cast absentee ballots, because I was an NJ resident in 1986 and 1988. Democrats want college kids to vote in multiple districts, preferablly for Democrats.

As a sidebar, I would like to caution about over-reaction here. Words matter, and this isn’t quite an investigation, it is a hearing by a body which includes such human rights bastions as Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and China.

Super Scientist Cartoonist Tells Us Climate Change (Hoax) Causes Earthquakes And Stuff

Because none of these things happened before you decided to use your electric ice maker (via Tom Nelson)

(HuffPo Moonbat) Are there benefits we can enjoy from a warming globe? Research says yes. Do the benefits outweigh the negatives? Research says no.

For example, here are some of impacts we feel as a result of our participation in climate-warming activities:

With “benefits” like that, who needs hindrances?

Uh huh. Commenters aren’t buying it, and I love the permalink for the “research says no,” which is “http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/21/global-warming-heat-cold-temperature-deaths_n_881515.html”. No matter what, AGW is responsible.
