Washington Post Frets Over Norfolk Being Flooded By Sea Level Rise And Sinking Land

Warmists just can’t help themselves. The sea level gauges show that, yes, there has been sea level rise since the beginning of the 20th century, above average rise, mostly because those gauges have been subsiding because Norfolk was built on sinking land. The WP even mentions in its headline that Norfolk was built on sinking ground, but, everybody panic, globull warming is causing the sea to rise!!!!!!1!!!

(Washington Post) In Norfolk, Virginia’s second-largest city, with 250,000 residents, Faella’s concerns aren’t the isolated fears of one woman living on the river’s edge. The entire city is worried. Miles of waterways that add to Norfolk’s charm are also a major threat in the era of increased global warming and relative rising sea levels, as well as its odd and unique sinking ground.

But, it has to be because someone drove an SUV.

Along the southeast coast, other cities in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and Florida are monitoring Norfolk’s response to the flooding, knowing they could soon face similar challenges. Low-lying Gulf and Pacific coast cities are also watching.

Except, in most of those areas, the sea level rise has been flat or well within the historical norms of the past 7,000 years, after the massive sea level rise leveled off post-ice age. But, of course, Warmists say “it could happen! Our crystal balls and tea leaves tell us so!”

Tides rise daily, but as the climate warms, seas have risen and pushed up the Chesapeake Bay around Norfolk a few inches each year, scientists said. In the spring tidal cycle, waters sometimes rise a foot or more above normal.

Worse, the ground is sinking in Tidewater, as Hampton Roads is also known. It sits in the nation’s largest known geologic impact crater, an Ice Age formation that’s causing land to drop about seven inches every century, accounting for about one-third of the sea-level change.

Except, that crater is about 35 million years old. So much for the rest of the “science” in the article.

Essentially, Norfolk sits in swampy area which has been subsiding and sees lots of erosion from being on the ocean and at the mouth of so many waterways. Much like New Orleans and Venice, it wasn’t a particularly wise place to build.

White House Grants DOJ “Executive Privilege” On Fast And Furious Documents

Most Transparent Administration Ever!

(Fox News) Rep. Darrell Issa said Wednesday that he is pressing ahead with a committee vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, despite an 11th-hour move by President Obama to exert executive privilege over the Fast and Furious documents at the heart of the dispute.

The announcement immediately touched off a caustic debate on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as Democrats accused Issa of prosecuting a “political witch hunt” and Republicans stepped up their criticism of Holder’s “stonewalling” over the Fast and Furious probe. Even for Washington, the tone at the hearing was decidedly bitter and accusatory.

One wonders how this will play in the media as the inform the American people of this….oh, wait, most media outlets have been ignoring F&F. Now they are having to cover this story, and the viewers have no reference. As Erika Johnson points out

Here’s another thought: Invoking executive privilege on this case is going to come off as a very dodgy and arrogant move. But the White House is willing to take on that bad press, and I can only presume that’s because whatever is in those documents… is much more damning than the alternative.

Erika also has a copy of the letter sent to Representative Issa.

It does make one wonder what Eric Holder and the Obama administration are hiding in refusing to produce all the relevant documentation. When it comes to government, there is nothing wrong with the saying “if they have nothing to hide, they would produce the documents.” Except when it is national security.

Phineas at Sister Toldjah compares this to the Nixon administration, and notes that 2 federal officials and at least 300 Mexicans have been killed due to F&F.

Michelle Malkin points out that Obama attacked the GOP over executive privilege.

The PJ Tatler offers this quote from Chuck Grassley: “How can the president assert executive privilege if there was no White House involvement? How can the president exert executive privilege over documents he’s supposedly never seen? Is something very big being hidden to go to this extreme? The contempt citation is an important procedural mechanism in our system of checks and balances,” he said.

Ace: There’s been more talk of Fast And Furious on CNN and MSNBC in the last 5 minutes than in the last year and half. All 9 of their viewers must be confused as to what this is all about and why it’s so important.

Jammie: They probably won’t need to worry. The Democrats and most of the media are on record in support of the mass murder of Mexicans thanks to Obama’s gun-running scandal.

Complaint Demands Investigation Into “Climate Of Fear” At EPA

Now, this is interesting. One of the things I have written about many times, as have others, is why there is a need for public sector unions. One of the main purposes of unions is to protect the workers from harsh bosses and companies and make sure working conditions are within excepted norms. Liberals always tell us government is super mega-awesome and benevolent, so why would we need a union for government workers? We, um, because of this, perhaps?

(Daily Caller) The Daily Caller has obtained an internal “report of violence in the workplace” notifying top officials at the Environmental Protection Agency about the abusive behavior of a political appointee close to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson.

The report and call for an independent investigation and action highlights the behavior of Stephanie Owens, an EPA deputy associate administrator in the Office of the Administrator’s Office of External Affairs and Environmental Education. It details a March 14 incident in which Owens, a political appointee, verbally attacked a bargaining unit employee to the point that the union member was afraid to return to her office — for the second time in two weeks.

The memo is dated March 15 and was penned by Steve Shapiro, the executive vice-president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 3331 — the largest bargaining unit at EPA. It goes on to explain that this is just one of many incidents involving Owens that have created a “climate of fear” in the department.

According to the document, while the union has officially complained about Owens’ behavior in the past, she has remained in her position and EPA has not addressed the union’s concerns about her behavior or the “climate of fear. (snip)

The document calls on the EPA to launch an “immediate, independent, credible, outside investigation” into the incident and the “climate of fear” staff has been reporting to their union. AFGE further notes that the moment the incident is corroborated, Owens should be immediately removed from the OEAEE premises — if not the entire EPA campus — until an investigation is completed.

So, the “climate of fear” has nothing to do with globull warming, but with abuse by high ranking EPA officials of which the EPA has done nothing to stop. The story goes on to highlight that many more employees feel that the political appointees are arrogant and abusive to the EPA employees.

“Communities, small businesses and others subjected to EPA’s torrent of regulations under Administrator Jackson have had to deal with their own ‘climate of fear,’” (Bonner Cohen) continued. “Now, it appears that same phenomenon prevails within the agency.”

Maybe there is a need for public sector unions in order to protect the workers from “management”, at least when Democrats are in charge.

Democrat Adults Heckle Kids Singing “God Bless The USA”

It’s hard to be shocked by anything the modern political Left does anymore. They clamor for more “civil discourse”, then go ahead and pull a stunt like this

(Examiner) On Monday, a group of about 20 children got a lesson in political speech when they were heckled by adults as they waved small flags and sang Lee Greenwood’s patriotic song, “God Bless the U.S.A.”

The children, some of whom were banned from singing the song at their graduation earlier this month, were led by Congressman and U.S. Senate hopeful Bob Turner (R-NY), who held a press conference adjacent to the school that banned the song.

Parents of Coney Island’s P.S. 90 had organized a protest to express outrage over principal Greta Hawkins’ decision to ban the song. Turner, who is running against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), was invited by the parents.

Over to Politicker, which transcribes some of the heckling

“You Republicans come go to a Republican area and do that, we don’t do that here,” one of the several hecklers yelled out early on. “This is ridiculous, this is sad. This is so crazy. This is sad.”

“Excuse me sir, can you let the kids sing please?” Mr. Turner’s staffer interjected.

“No!” came the bolted response. “The kids don’t even know what they’re singing! They got something you tell them to say! It’s ridiculous! It’s sad, sad, sad. Y’all are going to burn in hell! You all burn in hell! Shame on you! Shame on you!”

At one point the kids start chanting “USA! USA! USA” to drown out the heckler, but that doesn’t exactly cause him to quit yelling at the crowd of small children and organizers.

Democrats should feel ashamed of themselves, heckling kids. But they won’t.

Good News: Yet More Leaks On Cyberwarfare

As Allahpundit, Israel Matzav, and Ace point out, this is meant to prop up Team Obama, since we already knew lots of details, but to throw some blame at Israel

(Washington Post) The United States and Israel jointly developed a sophisticated computer virus nicknamed Flame that collected critical intelligence in preparation for cyber-sabotage attacks aimed at slowing Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon, according to Western officials with knowledge of the effort.

The massive piece of malware was designed to secretly map Iran’s computer networks and monitor the computers of Iranian officials, sending back a steady stream of intelligence used to enable an ongoing cyberwarfare campaign, according to the officials.

The effort, involving the National Security Agency, the CIA and Israel’s military, has included the use of destructive software such as the so-called Stuxnet virus to cause malfunctions in Iran’s nuclear enrichment equipment.

The emerging details about Flame provide new clues about what is believed to be the first sustained campaign of cyber-sabotage against an adversary of the United States.

Wonderful. What say we just tell enemies what we’re capable of so they can work to stop the attacks on their infrastructure, like, say, Iran’s nuclear weapons program. And anyone who doesn’t think Iran is looking to develop nuclear weapons is a complete boob who should spend his/her day in kindergarten. Eating paint. Not teaching.

There’s no possible way Iran (or any other targeted country) can benefit from knowing the virus’ tricks and tasks and Trojans, I guess.

There was a time when the media would never write about secrets like this, and work to protect the USA. Not so much anymore.

The Lonely Conservative calls this part of Obama’s “smart power.” I think we can all see the /sarc tag in big, bold writing, perhaps using Matisse ITC, which is always a good font to have blood dripping off of it. Which is what happens when secret operations are leaked.

UN IPCC Decides To Give Up Any Pretense Of Science

We already know that there’s barely any science involved with the IPCC: it’s mostly advocacy. Now, they are simply giving up and plan on using “grey” material (via Junk Science)

(New Scientist) The IPCC decided for the first time to impose strict geographical quotas on the scientists who author its major assessment reports. There will also be a push to increase the representation of women among its authors.

Controversially, it also voted to increase the role in those assessments of “grey literature”: publications not subject to peer review. Using such material in the last assessment is what led to the “glaciergate” scandal in 2010, when the report was found to have vastly overestimated the rate at which Himalayan glaciers are losing ice.

The panel publishes three voluminous assessments of the state of climate science every six years, the last of which came out in 2007.

Some critics New Scientist spoke to say the changes, which have not so far been publicly announced, will reduce the quality of the assessments by excluding the best scientists and muddying the waters between peer-reviewed and other literature.

As it is there is barely any science involved. Instead, they tend to look at sooth saying and palm reading. What the IPCC has predicted has been wrong time and time again, so they have shifted to prognosticating out to the year 2050 and beyond. No Tricks Zone lists 129 issues with the IPCC assessments, many of them revolving around the use of “grey” reports.

Now, peer review is no the be all end all. There is quite a bit of science done without peer review. Quite frankly, those on the Climate Realist side often have their research not peer reviewed, not because they do not want it, but because academia refuses to review non-alarmist reports. But, the IPCC doesn’t even bother looking to see if the reports they include are real.

Democrats Still Whining About Neil Monro Daring To Ask Obama A Question

Good grief, they just can’t stop. This time it is “Karen Finney, a political analyst for MSNBC and Democratic consultant” penning a screeching whinefest op-ed at The Hill

It’s not just that interrupting the president of the United States, as Neil Munro from the Daily Caller did not once but twice last week during a routine press event in the White House Rose Garden, crossed the line from uncivil to inappropriate. The question he shouted, “Mr. President, why do you favor foreign workers over Americans?” was unprofessionally divisive. Resorting to race-baiting or pitting groups of human beings against one another is not journalism worthy of a White House press pass.

Um, we’d all like to know just how adding 800,000+ illegal aliens to the workforce through work visas will help Americans get jobs. Yet, Obama came out (45 minutes late), gave a long winded statement about giving these visas, and declined to take questions (again). Weird how Democrats suddenly abandon their “the people have a right to know” thought when it is a Democrat being challenged.

Rather than helping to further understanding about the policy being announced, Munro engaged in exactly the kind of provocative-for-the-sake-of-it “journalism” that cheapens our national debate on important issues, contributing to a more polarized, less informed, un-civil society at exactly the time we need more engagement from the American people, not less.

How can the American people engage when the POTUS refuses to take questions?

Time and again the right wing has labeled President Obama as “divisive” and right-wing and some mainstream media continue to depict African-American men as angry and scary (as Bill Maher so effectively pointed out on his show last week) rather than professional, hard-working or loving. Yet, as he has done so many times before, during that offensive exchange, Obama responded firmly and respectfully to both interruptions, affording Munro the courtesy of referring to him as “Sir,” and, without raising his voice or moderating his tone, told him to wait until he had finished his statement before asking questions.

So daring to ask Obama a question, something the 1st Amendment clearly allows, is now raaaaacist. Should we be surprised?

Oh, and isn’t nice how Obama gave Neil the opportunity to refer to Obama as Your Majesty “sir”?

Perhaps Ms. Finney should look towards her own network, MSNBC, who engaged in blatant uncivil treatment when they decided to lie about Mitt Romney going to a WaWa.

North Carolina Democrat Party Considers Anti-Israel Resolution

I’m sure no one is surprised nor shocked by the blatant anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian terrorist leanings of the NCDP

(Daily Caller) The North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) is seriously considering passing a resolution that would criticize Israel for its “illegal occupation” of Palestine, the latest in a long line of controversial moves coming out of one of the major battleground states President Barack Obama’s team is banking on to win re-election.

The resolution didn’t pass at this weekend’s NCDP state convention, but was tabled and referred to the executive committee for further consideration later. It attacks the United States for providing Israel with “$3 billion annually in military aid,” while the “Israeli occupation, disenfranchisement and impoverishment of significant numbers of the Palestinian population, and Israel’s overwhelming military might and its role as the only nuclear power threaten stability in a region witnessing increased demands for democracy and an end to autocratic rule.”

Apparently, those voting probably realized that this would look bad, but rather than dump it, they are going to keep it around and try again. It says something about the anti-Israel leanings of Democrats that they even brought it up for a vote. Much like al Qaeda and other Islamist terrorist groups, the far left, both here in the United States and around the world, think Israel is the root of all problems in the world, and wouldn’t mind seeing the nation destroyed.

If it ends up being passed, the resolution would mean the NCDP “would hold its elected congress members and senators accountable for helping end our government’s role in continuing the Israeli Palestinian tragedy by making the human rights of both peoples central to U.S. foreign policy by ending Israel’s illegal occupation, by advocating for a viable Palestinian state, and membership of that state in the United Nations.”

It would also, if passed, mean the NCDP would advocate its congressional delegation bring “all parties, including Hamas, to the table to negotiate an end to the Israeli Occupation and a secure peace based on the 1967 borders,” among other things.

All blame is placed on Israel, and they even want to negotiate with a terrorist group which consistently attacks Israel’s civilian population. Not a particularly surprising notion, what with Obama administration signaling that the Egyptian military should accede to the Muslim Brotherhood, a group that has vowed to destroy Israel, and hand over power. The MB has stated that they would do away with the peace treaty with Israel. You have Commentary Magazine and the NY Times stating the same thing. In their anti-Israel hatred they support hardcore Islamists.
