Surprise! The Only Solution To “Climate Change” Is Socialism

How many years have Climate Realists, including myself, told people that the actual basis of the “climate change” (hoax) movement is to push for more government control (and putting lots of money in the pockets of climate researchers, but that’s a different post), and has little to do with actually stopping any sort of increase in temperature? (Liberation, the paper of Socialists) The central lesson of ecology is that everything is connected to everything else, meaning that human activities interact with nature in sometimes problematic ways. Thus, evidence accumulating this summer of powerful and accelerating changes in the global climate offers a warning that capitalism’s insatiable appetite for profits is pushing the global climate system toward runaway global warming.

The only viable choice in responding to the ecological crisis of capitalism is socialism. Continuing the effort to reform capitalism is a dead end, as Rio+20 has unequivocally demonstrated. Abandoning modern society also is not a choice, as that would mean abandoning the very tools we need to limit the impact of the crisis and adapt to a changing climate.

What is Socialism? It is one of three Democratic political models, along with Liberalism and Conservatism (American Conservatism is actually based on Liberalism, often referred to as neo-Conservatism, while Conservatives in Europe are true Conservatives). There are three cores to the Democratic model, the Moral, the Economic, and the Political. With Socialism we find

  • Moral core: government should stay the hell out of people’s private lives
  • Political: free and open elections
  • Economic: the government is heavily involved in the means of production within the private sector, and will actually own many companies itself

Obviously, today’s socialism is very involved in people’s private lives (think Nanny State regulations and laws), and Lefties love “Direct Democracy”, except when they lose. Then they sue to overturn. What they really like is heavy government involvement in the economy, controlling everything. And, somehow, putting the government heavily in charge will save the planet from over-heating, without destroying the economy.

Socialism would mean: developing our human resources through free and quality public education; strengthening workers’ organizations so that they can become partners in ecological recovery; reconstructing our health care system so that it can address the emerging public health issues that are coming out of the ecological crisis; promoting international cooperation, rather than militarization and war, which is necessary to reducing the human impact on the environment; and most importantly, including and respecting all members of our global community as brothers and sisters in this struggle.

It’s not really socialism per the political theory definition, but more a blend of socialism and fascism. Which worked so well in the Soviet Union and today’s mainland China, eh?

Maureen Dowd: You Know, That Obama Guy Is Pretty Ungrateful

Oh, come on, Mo, don’t you appreciate the 3-5 emails sent to you which seem so personal, asking for $3? Hey, you had a chance to hobnob with Obama at his 51st birthday party, all for $3! (Interestingly, I still can’t find any news on who actually won, including on Obama’s reelection website. One would think they’d publicize it)

The Ungrateful President

Just so, the president does not think people should expect too much in return for paying $35,800 for an hour of his time, as they did at the Weinstein affair, or in return for other favors.

Obama smashed through all the barriers and dysfunction in his life to become a self-made, self-narrating president. His brash 2008 campaign invented a new blueprint to upend the Democratic establishment. So it’s understandable if Obama, with his Shaker aesthetic, is not inclined to play by the rococo rules of politics. Yet, as the president struggles to stay ahead of Moneybags Romney, his selective insensitivities may be hurting him.

Stories abound of big donors who stopped giving as much or working as hard because Obama never reached out, either with a Clinton-esque warm bath of attention or Romney-esque weekend love fests and Israeli-style jaunts; of celebrities who gave concerts for his campaigns and never received thank-you notes or even his full attention during the performance; of public servants upset because they knocked themselves out at the president’s request and never got a pat on the back; of V.I.P.’s disappointed to get pictures of themselves with the president with the customary signature withheld; of politicians disaffected by the president’s penchant for not letting members of Congress or local pols stand on stage with him when he’s speaking in their state (they often watch from the audience and sometimes have to lobby just to get a shout-out); of power brokers, local and national, who felt that the president insulted them by never seeking their advice or asking them to come to the White House or ride along in the limo for a schmooze.

Care and feeding has been outsourced to Joe Biden, who loves it, but it doesn’t build the same kind of loyalty as when the president does it.

“He comes from the neediest profession of all, except for acting, but he is not needy and he doesn’t fully understand the neediness of others; it’s an abstraction to him,” says Jonathan Alter, who wrote “The Promise” about Obama’s first year in office and is working on a sequel. “He’s not an ungracious person, but he can be guilty of ingratitude. It’s not a politically smart way for him to operate.”

Doesn’t Mo know that people are supposed to be there for Obama, not the other way around? He is, after all, The One, the Lightworker. He doesn’t have time for niceties. Everyone should just bask in the knowledge that Obama “wants to be a policy maker, not a glad-handing pol.” He just needs to unwind from reading from a teleprompter and play some golf. Maybe get around to visiting the 58th state. It’s not about you, Mo, it’s all about Obama.

Is anyone markedly flabbergasted by Mo’s description of Obama? What you have is the most narcissistic president of all time, and, face it, politicians tend to be pretty self-loving in the first place. Remember, this is the same guy who dropped his name into most Presidential biographies.

White House Told GSA Not To Have Occupiers Arrested

The Obama administration continues to pick and choose which laws to follow and which to ignore

(The Blaze) Documents obtained by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group, indicate that General Services Administration (GSA) officials, with approval from the Obama administration, ordered local law enforcement officers to stand down and not arrest Occupy Portland protesters after they seemingly broke the law last year.

The records, obtained by Judicial Watch pursuant to a November Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, include internal DHS correspondence.

On Nov. 6, 2011, DHS/National Protection and Programs Directorate Chief of Staff Caitlin Durkovich and GSA Public Buildings Service Commissioner Robert Peck, who has since been fired, communicated via email and specifically discussed Occupy Portland protests that were occurring on federal property in Portland. Durkovich wrote:

I am sorry to be emailing you on a Sunday night, but wanted to let you know our Press Shop has received a couple of calls from Portland media outlets about a group of 11 protesters who again set up camp at Terry Shrunk Plaza in Portland last night. They have chained themselves to a large drum filled with concrete. GSA controls the permits and has asked FPS [Federal Protective Services] not to enforce the curfew at park and the prohibition on overnight encampments. Reporters have asked if we will be arresting the protestors as FPS did last week.

Our FPS Commander in Portland says they are standing down and following GSA’s request to only intervene if there is a threat to public safety.

Peck responded:

Caitlin: yes, that is our position; it’s been vetted with our Administrator and Michael Robertson, our chief of staff, and we have communicated with the WH [White House], which has afforded us the discretion to fashion our approach to Occupy issues…The arrests last week were carried out despite our request that the protesters be allowed to remain and to camp overnight…

Now just imagine that this was a Tea Party protest. Do you think the same courtesy would have been extended were they breaking the law? Especially after 25 had already been arrested? Would the police have been told to stand down?

The Washington Examiner reports

The Obama White House denied on multiple occasions during the Occupy protests last year that anybody in the Obama administration had given aid or encouragement to the demonstrations, many of which erupted into public and private property destruction, arrests for drug dealing and prostitution and public health violations.

Now, in all fairness, there are decisions made that certainly the head of any organization, including the Executive Branch, is not informed of. I bet Obama was a bit surprised by the amount of money Peck spent ($823k) on that lavish Las Vegas GSA conference. That said, as the refrain from the Bush 43 White House years went “who’s president NOW?”, meaning everything that happened was to be laid at the feet of George W. Bush.

“We now have a new GSA scandal – one that involves the Obama White House,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These documents clearly show that federal agencies colluded with the Obama White House to allow the Occupy Wall Street protestors to violate the law with impunity.  These documents tell us that the GSA and DHS can’t be relied upon to protect federal workers or property.”

Yeah, well don’t expect the media to bother covering this one, Mr. Fitton. The media will do almost everything to protect Obama.

The rising temperature of the earth has forced several countries to face worse weather conditions. Owing to global warming and uncertain weather conditions, the poor population is worse affected. High rates of suicides and the rising graph of social crimes are now giving alarm balls in several countries. (snip)

According to media news, due to extreme poverty a mother sold her four-month-old baby to a Nepali couple for Rs 64.

Keep that alarmist rhetoric going. It’s working so well.

(Politico) Former president Jimmy Carter is taping a video address to be shown in prime time at the Democratic National Convention, the convention committee announced Tuesday.

Carter said in a statement that he regrets he will not be able to attend in person.

I wonder if Carter will go off message and say “Ha! Told you I wasn’t that bad!” From the press release

“President Carter is one of the greatest humanitarian leaders of our time and a champion of democracy around the globe,” said 2012 Democratic National Convention Chair Antonio Villaraigosa. “A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama’s ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term. President Obama is fighting for the next steps in our nation’s economic recovery, to reclaim America’s promise on behalf of hard-workers, the strivers, the dreamers, who ask only for a fair shot and a fair shake.”

Interesting that the beginning avoids all mention of Carter’s time as president. Even more interesting, what could a the original SCOAMF president offer as “unique insight”? Really, when one is depending on the wisdom of Jimmy Carter for economic advice, the septic tank has really exploded.

Politifact Finds Reid’s Allegation Against Mitt To Be Pants On Fire

Surprise! We’ll skip the rehash of the whole issue and skip to the meat of the decision

(Politifact) Reid has said Romney paid no taxes for 10 years. It was no slip of the tongue. He repeated the claim on at least two more occasions, at one point saying that “the word is out” when in fact it was only Reid who put that “word” out.

Reid has produced no evidence to back up his claim other than attribution to a shadowy anonymous source. Romney has denied the claim, and tax experts back him up, saying that the nature of Romney’s investments in Bain make it highly unlikely he would have been able to avoid paying taxes altogether — especially for 10 years.

Reid has made an extreme claim with nothing solid to back it up. Pants on Fire!

There’s no possible way for a many of Romney’s wealth to have avoided paying taxes for 10 years without showing up on the radar of the IRS. Just ask Wesley Snipes. Furthermore, there’s statistically no possible way that someone of Romney’s wealth could manipulate the tax code to pay a net federal tax rate of zero percent, and certainly not without a highly publicized audit by the IRS.

Meanwhile, Harry Reid still won’t release his own tax returns

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid again deflected questions Monday about releasing his tax returns, even as he continued to pound the demand for Mitt Romney to make more of his own public.

Instead, Reid pointed to the financial disclosure forms he files as a member of Congress, which provide different information.

Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson told POLITICO last week that the majority leader will not release his tax returns, writing: “He’s not running for president. … He has of course released more than 30 years of detailed [personal finance disclosures]. There is exponentially more information available to the public about Sen. Reid’s financial life than there is about Mitt Romney’s.”

Let’s see those returns, Harry! Why? To paraphrase, “Harry Reid has been proposing and promoting tax policies for this country”. He’s the Majority Leader in the Senate (hopefully, that will end come January). Shouldn’t everyone have access to Reid’s tax returns so that….they can sift through them looking for dirt? Because that’s the main reason why the Dems want Romney’s returns. Also, to create a deflection issue from Obama’s pitiful stewardship of the economy and the country. Releasing them would not help, because, as Haley Barbour said

“Romney will never satisfy the Obama campaign,” said Barbour. “No matter what he does, it won’t be enough and their demands won’t stop until after November 6.” Added Barbour: “Why doesn’t Obama release all the ‘Fast and Furious’ documents?”

Yes, why doesn’t he? Wasn’t this supposed to be the most transparent administration ever? Wanting Mitt’s tax returns is a fishing expedition on a private citizen’s business. Wanting the Fast and Furious documents is an inquiry into official US government business revolving around a botched gun running operation which saw the deaths of at least 2 federal agents and at least 300 Mexican nationals.

The first commenter at The Las Vegas Review says, “Harry Reid needs to release his Tax Returns for the last 30 years, how does a guy making 190,000 end up being worth 10,000,000,000?”

Good question. What about Dirty Harry’s taxes? How do we know that he isn’t cheating on his taxes?

Someone get the waaaaaah-mbulance for Lawyers, Guns, And Money, his vorpal sword, and Balloon Juice.

Wake Up America: They are scared to talk about jobs and the economy, they have no actual ammunition left against Romney because they have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at him and it hasn’t lowered his polls numbers at all, so they are forced to create outright lies to try to attack with.

In Discussing Sikh Temple Shooting, NY Times Mischaracterizes DHS Extremist Report

Who was Wade Page? He was a crazy neo-Nazi white supremacist. Why did he go shoot up the Sikh temple and the people there? We do not know yet. Good thing the NY Times is there to tell us this was about right wing extremism

Analysts for the F.B.I. and the Department of Homeland Security routinely monitor violent extremist Web sites of all kinds, including those attracting white supremacists, according to former officials of both agencies. But the department’s work on the topic has been criticized. In 2009, conservatives in Congress strongly objected to a department report titled “Rightwing Extremism,” which speculated that the recession and the election of a black president could increase the threat from white supremacists.

Jumping in the way back machine, the problem with the report was that it didn’t deal with far, far right extremism: it turned average Republicans and Conservatives into extremists and a danger to national security because they believed in the 2nd Amendment, were pro-life, for limited government, and were against illegal immigration. Also, those who complain about jobs being lost to China (hey, wouldn’t that make Obama a rightwing extremist?). Several Republican Senators sent a letter to Janet “Big Sis” Napolitano which included

…We can assure you that these beliefs are held by citizens of all races, party affiliation, male and female, and should not be listed as a factor in determining potential terror threats. A better word usage would be to describe them as practicing their First Amendment rights.

Imagine DHS under a Republican president coming up with a report discussing “leftwing extremism”, saying that people who

  • believe in a “women’s right to Choose”
  • income redistribution,
  • nationalized health care
  • raising taxes on the rich
  • restricting gun purchases

and others being a threat to national security. Would there be an outcry? Yes. Should there be an outcry? Yes. Now, if the report was discussing those on the left who were anti-Semitic, believed in a fascistic government controlling the nation, believed that Blacks were inferior, …… hmm,

Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, said Mr. Page had come to the center’s attention a decade ago because of his affiliation with rock bands known for lyrics that push far past the boundaries of tolerance.

“The music that comes from these bands is incredibly violent, and it talks about murdering Jews, black people, gay people and a whole host of other enemies,” Mr. Potok said. He added that in 2000, Mr. Page tried to buy unspecified goods from the National Alliance, which Mr. Potok described as a neo-Nazi organization that at the time was one of the country’s best organized and best financed hate groups.

Neo-Nazi’s use elements of both the extreme right and left. Neither side “owns” them. Neither side wants them. They can be described just as easily as leftwing extremists, since they are anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, and believe in the power of a Big Government (run by themselves) which controls the means of production, the major component of the Democratic Socialism model.

If Only You’d Stop Driving Your Fossil Fueled Vehicle, We Could Stop Lyme Disease From Coming To U.S.

I blame you if Lyme disease comes to this country

(Grist) From the known and treatable (Lyme Disease) to the unpronounceable and potentially deadly (Cryptococcus gattii), climate change is giving nasty diseases a leg up, clearing their way onwards to the U.S.

Um, really? Does Grist’s James West understand that Lyme disease has been in the US for a long time, and that it tends to affect more people in northern states? Where it’s cooler?

Increased rainfall, warmer temperatures, dying reefs, and hotter oceans are handing diseases that afflict humans — algal, fungal, mosquito-borne, tick-borne — a chance to spread, meaning diseases previously unheard in the U.S. of are now emerging.

As Tom Nelson wonders “how, specifically, would the alleged CO2-induced death of a reef cause disease to spread?”

George Luber, an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), says the deadly fungal infection C. gattii, once considered limited to places like Papua New Guinea and Australia, “popped out of nowhere” when it first moved to Vancouver Island around the early 2000s. Scientists were alarmed by its readiness to set up shop in a new climate, well outside its comfort zone. If subtropical C. gattii could settle down in just any backyard, what was next?

Obviously, diseases are supposed to be static, much like the Earth’s bio-system, at least in Warmist World.
