Desperate Obama Campaign Releases Ad Suggesting Romney Paid No Taxes

Despite many national polls going Obama’s way (and, for those who don’t understand who presidential elections work, the only polls of meaning are the state polls, as it is not a national referendum), the only explanation for this type of pathetic ad is desperation. Or possibly, that Obama is simply a nasty person who follows the Chicago way. Probably both

(The Blaze) Just when we thought the White House had backed away from Harry Reid’s wild, and unsubstantiated, claim that Mitt Romney hasn’t paid taxes for the last 10 years, the Obama camp has released an incredible ad suggesting the same thing.

In a new spot that is specifically endorsed by Barack Obama, an ominous voice wonders if Romney has paid below the 13.9 percent tax rate he claims, and at one point wonders if he’s paid “0%.“ It then goes on to say ”we don’t know” and that it’s time for Romney to “come clean.”

So, basically we can assume that there is collusion between Dingy Harry and the Obama sleazepaign. But, what else is Obama to do? He can’t campaign on his accomplishments, such as they are. Some may be popular with his base, but most have been dismal failures. Video at the link.

Meanwhile, after lying their asses off for a few days, Team Obama admits they were aware of Joe Soptic

(Politico) Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki acknowledged Thursday that the campaign was no longer pleading ignorance about the story of a man who has appeared in both a super PAC ad and a campaign ad.

“No one is denying he was in one of our campaign ads. He was on a conference call telling his story,” Psaki told reporters on Air Force One.

The first story dovetails nicely into the ending of the Politico story

UPDATE: Amanda Henneberg, a spokesperson for the Romney campaign, said this in a statement: “President Obama’s campaign has been caught lying about its knowledge concerning a vicious smear run by his Super PAC.  And now, they have doubled down with another dishonorable and dishonest attack. In 2008, candidate Obama said ‘you make a big election about small things’ when you don’t have a record to run on.  Since President Obama can’t run on record unemployment, falling incomes, and massive debt, he has decided to run a dirty campaign that is an affront to everything he claims to stand for.”

Really, Team Romney should hit back at Obama and blame Obama for presiding over the deaths of at least 2 federal agents and well over 200 Mexican citizens.

Surprise! Insurance Rebate May Stall In Employers Hands

Who would have thought that this could happen? Considering that Obamacare is well over 2,000 pages, written by all manners of different people and industries, and wasn’t read by anyone who voted “Aye”, it’s really surprising that there could be so many bugs (some intentional, many not) with the law. Like this surely unintentional bug

(NY Times) It was the great health insurance giveback: $1.1 billion in premiums returned to policyholders under the Affordable Care Act. But while many people who buy their own insurance found a check in the mail last week, millions insured through employers are still wondering what is happening with the money.

Workers were notified in form letters from insurers this month that a “rebate” had been sent to their employer, who “must follow certain rules in distributing the rebate to you.” But even when employees paid a significant share of the premium, many employers are still deciding how, when or even whether to share the cash.

And when government writes rules, things tend to get a bit wonky. And can be unclear.

The law gives employers up to three months and considerable discretion to decide how to spend the employees’ money, so long as it is eventually used to benefit insurance plan participants. And while some employers are returning the money directly in paychecks, or planning “premium holidays” that increase take-home pay, others are weighing different options, benefits consultants said, like reducing next year’s premium, or spending the refund on so-called wellness programs that reward workers who lose weight orquit smoking.

Which is apparently completely legal within the framework of Obamacare. Let’s also remember that Obamacare makes a big push for wellness programs. And there’s nothing wrong with reducing next years premiums, which could be the last year that insurance is offered through your company, as the Mandate is scheduled to kick in in 2014, as are the fines.

Now, let’s not put all the burden of blame on Obamacare, because some companies may simply be sitting on the money, but, then, they tend to pay the majority of the premium for their employees. Where’s their rebate? What we have here is “good intentions” from the Central Government Planners, and we all know what happens along the good intentions road.

Watts Up With That? Highlights An Inconvenient Result On Hottest July Evah!

Of course, you had Warmist Seth Borenstein trotting out the story Ouch July in US was hottest ever in history books, as so many other Warmists did, immediately taking the Warmist propaganda from NOAA without bothering to actually doing any research. Alas, Anthony Watts did the actual journalism, and science, for them

(Watts Up With That) Using the old network, NOAA says the USA Average Temperature for July 2012 is: 77.6°F

Using the NOAA USCRN data, the USA Average Temperature for July 2012 is: 75.5°F

The difference between the old problematic network and new USCRN is 2.1°F cooler.

This puts July 2012, according to the best official climate monitoring network in the USA at 1.9°F below the  77.4°F July 1936 USA average temperature in the NOAA press release today, not a record by any measure.

Anthony also compares real data from the 1930’s to today. Steve Goddard also provides some very interesting data, highlighting that the 1930’s were hotter than today.

And one other thing to consider: even if it is a hot year, that doesn’t prove anthropogenic causation, just that it was…hot. Like happens. Like happened during previous warm periods, which were warmer.

Surprise! UN Carbon Credits Program Creates More Greenhouse Gases

Gee, who would have thought that people and companies would play games with a carbon credit program?

(NY Times) When the United Nations wanted to help slow climate change, it established what seemed a sensible system.

Yeah, much like the Oil for Food program, which, BTW, is still seeing people being fined for bribes

Greenhouse gases were rated based on their power to warm the atmosphere. The more dangerous the gas, the more that manufacturers in developing nations would be compensated as they reduced their emissions.

But where the United Nations envisioned environmental reform, some manufacturers of gases used in air-conditioning and refrigeration saw a lucrative business opportunity.

They quickly figured out that they could earn one carbon credit by eliminating one ton of carbon dioxide, but could earn more than 11,000 credits by simply destroying a ton of an obscure waste gas normally released in the manufacturing of a widely used coolant gas. That is because that byproduct has a huge global warming effect. The credits could be sold on international markets, earning tens of millions of dollars a year.

So, one of the solutions to stop globull warming created more greenhouse gases, and saw greater amounts of more potent greenhouse gases released in prodigious amounts. Yet, Warmists still tell us that the solution is carbon trading programs (but not having Warmists live the carbon neutral life).

Team Romney Slams Obama Over Hypocrisy Regarding False Ad

One thing that you should know about Team Romney: they pick and choose the time in how they respond to Obama attacks carefully. Sometimes it’s quick, sometimes not. The campaign is based on being the adults in the room dealing with the foul mouthed abusive 5 year olds, and is aimed at those who are undecided and can easily switch. They also realize that most people won’t really be paying attention till roughly late August/early September, unlike us political junkies

(Fox News) Mitt Romney’s campaign accused President Obama of “hypocrisy” Wednesday night after the president bemoaned the “crazy” behavior of super PACs – despite the mounting furor over a controversial ad put out by the super PAC cheerleading his own re-election effort.

The president complained about the outside political groups, which often have ties to the presidential campaigns themselves, during a Colorado campaign stop. “You got these guys writing $10 million checks. You got these super PACs that are just … going crazy,” Obama said.

A stunned Romney campaign swiftly excoriated the president for the comment, considering the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA is under fire for an ad that ties the death of a steelworker’s wife to Romney. Further, a top Obama campaign aide is now being accused of lying over what she knew about the man at the center of that ad.

“On the same day President Obama’s own campaign was caught lying about the contents of a discredited Super PAC attack ad, President Obama has the gall to warn voters of Super PACs ‘just going crazy,’” campaign spokesman Ryan Williams said. “It’s just the latest hypocrisy from the Obama campaign that is guilty of repeatedly spreading lies and distortions about Mitt Romney in a desperate attempt to distract voters from the president’s failed record.”

Many right side political junkies wanted Team Mitt to immediately slam the Obama campaign, denouncing the mule fritters smear commercial. Instead, Team Mitt bided its time, allowing the media and others to dig deep and tear apart the ad, exposing the reality. Then, they allowed Team Obama to dig themselves a deep hole with folks like Stephanie Cutter, exposing that the guy in the ad, Mr. Soptic, appeared in an Obama ad earlier, and was on a conference call with Team Obama. And he was wearing the same shirt in both ads. In what may be the exact same location.

Then, Team Mitt struck, as they were sure that Obama would make some sort of whiny pronouncement about Super Pacs and money in politics, and used that.

Could the Romney campaign do more? Sure, but, remember, they aren’t going to get that much press from most of the media who are in the bag for Obama, and while Obama is spending enormous amounts of cash now, Mitt will have more for the last 2 months+ when the election is made. Unless Romney pulls a major gaffe like John McCain’s “I’m going to suspend my campaign”, Don’t Panic.

Politicized Obama DOJ Creating Position To Protect Whistleblowers From DOJ

Only in the Obama administration is a whistleblower position needed to protect whistleblowers from the Department of Justice

(Fox News) The Justice Department’s inspector general has created a new position to help protect department whistleblowers and educate staff about them — a move that comes in the wake of Operation Fast and Furious.

The “Whistleblower Ombudsman” is believed to be one of the first such positions in the federal government, and its announcement comes one day after a whistleblower in the “Furious” scandal reached an agreement with the U.S. government over claims of retaliation against him.

The Whistleblower Ombudsman will focus on training department employees about how colleagues who come forward improve “the effectiveness and efficiency” of the department, and educating department employees about legal protections for whistleblowers and the possible repercussions of retaliation against them, a press release said. The ombudsman will also be responsible for monitoring investigations of alleged retaliation.

Wait, wait…..the Department of Justice needs someone to educate personnel about not retaliating against whistleblowers based on laws already on the books? Do people working for the top law enforcement agency in the country no already know that it is illegal to retaliate against whistleblowers? I’m sure the lower levels are aware of the law, so, I’d hope that this person will spend time explaining it to the upper levels, particularly the appointed political positions, which is were most retaliation derives.

Obamacare To Cause Increase In Pizza Price

Strange how just about everything seems to go up in cost thanks to Obamacare (via The Lonely Conservative)

(Fox Business) The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has been blamed for a lot of things—higher taxes, potential insurance rate hikes, and now, higher pizza prices. According to Papa John’s Founder, Chairman and CEO John H. Schnatter, health-care reform will cost the company an additional 11 cents to 14 cents per pizza.

Schnatter added that on a corporate basis, the reform would increase Papa John’s price per pizza by 15 to 20 cents.

“If Obamacare is in fact not repealed, we will find tactics to shallow out any Obamacare costs. And of course strategies to pass that cost onto consumers in order to protect our shareholder’s best interest.”

OK, 15-20 cents is not a lot. But, add that to the escalating costs of, well, everything. Because the same will happen at pretty much every business, which will add up. Papa John’s is surely not the only one. Domino’s, Pizza Hut, the local place you buy pizza. Fast food stores. Supermarkets. Target. Automotive. Pharmacies. Clothes. The costs will rise at all retail outlets. Those costs will get passed on.

Know Who The Real Heroes Are? Government Employees!

Good thing we have hyper-lefty ex-Gov Jennifer Granholm around to tell us these things

(HuffPuff) And then there’s the other end of the spectrum: an American scoundrel who reared her head this weekend, too. I refuse to give her publicity, so we’ll just call this venomous person “she who shall not be named.” (WT-Jenny is referring to Ann Coulter)

She said this about public employees: “Government jobs, we’re for losing government jobs.”

Well, guess what, Madame Voldemort: Those NASA scientists hold government jobs. Officer Murphy has one of those awful government jobs. Those who purify your water, inspect your meat, and test your kids’ toys, as well as a huge number of nurses, teachers, and our soldiers, are public employees. The firefighters who don’t hesitate to rush toward danger while you run away from it — they are all public employees. (snip)

As for the rest of us, I don’t know about you, but I’m really, really, really grateful for the service of all you public employees out there.

You are the true heroes, and we thank you for your efforts every day.

A couple points: yes, some public employees are heroes, or, rather, perform something heroic. Just like in the private sector. You know, that private sector that is taxed so that these people can quite often have a cushy job with pay, benefits, perks, and retirement plans that are much better than those in the private sector, all for work that is held to a lower standard than in the private sector, and it can be really difficult to hire these poor performing employees. Who, let’s remember, voluntarily took the jobs. Granholm positions every public sector worker as a hero simply for accepting a position.

Interestingly, she leaves out a government sector that is frequently full of heroes: the military. Strange, that, eh?
