Raaaaacism Today: “Chicago” Is Now Part Of The Dog Whistle Lexicon

(Newsbusters) Chris Matthews was on Hardball tonight covering the Republican National Convention with guests Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post and John Heilemann of New York Magazine.  In what is seemingly the natural progression of things these days with Matthews, the subject of the ‘otherization’ of the President was being discussed.  Because, if you weren’t aware already, Barack Obama is black, and any time a Republican chooses to discuss the failure that is his administration, the media will be there to quickly remind you that they only feel that way because of his skin color.

But tonight’s episode of race-baiting with Chris Matthews was a bit odd in that the panelists somehow came to the conclusion that reminding people of the President’s roots in Chicago politics is racist.  In fact, simply saying Chicago is racist.  (Video below). (snip)

Matthews: “They keep saying Chicago by the way, have you noticed?  They keep saying Chicago.  That’s another thing that sends that message – this guy’s helping the poor people in the bad neighborhoods, screwing us in the ‘burbs.”

Hielemann: “There’s a lot of black people in Chicago.”

So, there you go, any mention of “Chicago” means you’re a raaaaacist. Perhaps it would be easier if Chris Matthews and the rest of the unhinged left could tell us exactly what words and phrases we are allowed to say.

And then you have National Journal’s Ron Fournier on how Mitt is supposedly playing the race card, which has so much pure liberal insanity that I can’t decide where to begin, so read the whole thing, but, understand that in Liberal World

Working-class whites, in other words, are already more prosperous and secure than working-class minorities, but they’re less optimistic because they don’t believe they’re climbing anymore. They’re simply trying to hold on to what they’ve got, and see others grabbing at it.

When you think about it, do you really give a shit about minorities rising up? Does it dismay you? Well, it does if you are a rich white liberal, and want to make sure that Blacks and minorities are beholden to the Democrat party. Meanwhile, on our side, when you see a Black person moving up, you don’t think anything about that person’s race, you just think “good for you! Succeed! That’s the American way.”

Moron Wonders Why GOP Still Ignores Climate Change

Well, first, if you’re referring to it using a political phrase, climate change, rather than a scientific one, anthropogenic global warming, yeah, we ignore it. Why Does the GOP Still Ignore Climate Change?

With Hurricane Isaac hammering Louisiana with 80 mile-per-hour winds, you would think the Republican Party might pause to consider: “Hey, what’s with all this crazy weather?” New Orleans, after all, is just a short trip around the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa, where the GOP is holding their Republican National Convention. And it’s clear they’re aware that Isaac actually exists, since they shortened the convention from four days to three—not necessarily because Tampa was going to get hit, but just to avoid the “optics” of a big Republican party occurring while New Orleans floods. After all, George W. Bush didn’t avail himself too well during Katrina.

Apparently, there never were hurricanes before 1980. Here’s the kicker

But instead of acknowledging the fact that climate change exists and is responsible for the increasing weather extremes—more hurricanes, more snowstorms, more tornadoes, more scorching-drought-filled summers—the Republicans continue to not just ignore climate change, but mock President Obama for being concerned about it. The only mention of climate change in the entire 2012 Republican Platform isn’t in the environmental/energy section, but in a critique of Obama’s national security strategy:

In fact, hurricanes are down. It’s been over 2,500 days since a major hurricane hit the US. Isaac is the first hurricane (barely) to hit the US since September 13, 2008. Overall, hurricane numbers are down. Tornadoes are down. While there is drought in the US, many parts of the world are wet. What these bat guano insane Warmists position as “extreme weather” is simply weather, which has always happened, and always will.

Paul Ryan Electrifies RNC

There were many great speakers at the RNC Wednesday, among them Condi Rice and Tim Pawlenty (who should have shown that same passion before he ended up dropping out of the primaries), but the star of the night was, of course, Paul Ryan

(Fox News) Paul Ryan rallied the Republican convention audience Wednesday night as he formally accepted his party’s nomination for vice president and made an urgent plea for the country to get to work turning around its economy and finances.

“We don’t have much time,” Ryan said, but claimed: “We can do this.”

Teeing up the stage for Mitt Romney’s nomination speech Thursday night, Ryan repeatedly accused Democrats of falling down on the job. The acerbic speech accused the president of leaving his legions of voters with little more than a record of squandered opportunities and broken promises as they stare at “fading Obama posters” and look for work.

“It all started off with stirring speeches, Greek columns, the thrill of something new,” Ryan said. “Now all that’s left is a presidency adrift, surviving on slogans that already seem tired, grasping at a moment that has already passed, like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind.”

From start to finish, the speech was an unceasing assault on Obama’s record. By the end, he drew thunderous cheers and applause from the convention crowd. And as he has in the past, Ryan tried to draw a sharp contrast throughout.

Many have complained and/or noticed that attacks on Obama’s policies have been mostly missing during the first day. Paul Ryan didn’t hold back, highlighting how much Obama has failed, and contrasting what he and Mitt Romney intend to do if elected to get this country back on the path to prosperity.

Of course, the Typical Useless Leftist Idiots were out immediately “fact checking” Ryan’s speech, highlighting his “lies“, calling it the “most dishonest speech ever.” The Washington Post called the speech “misleading“. I’m sure we’ll get the same type of checking when Joe Biden and Obama speak in Charlotte, right? Right? Anyhow, Ed Morrissey fact checks the fact checkers.

It all comes down to vision: do you want a vision of massive central government planning and control, with obscene debt and deficits, with class and race warfare pushed constantly, business denigrated, and America reduced to just another nation? High unemployment, people dropping out of the jobs market in despair, beholden to the central government for their very subsistence? Or, do you want an America that can get it done, that looks to increase the size of the workforce, to see people make it on their own, to limit federal control over our personal lives, which is the top country in the world, one with a big GDP, one that succeeds?

Tonight it is Mitt’s turn. Don’t expect a lot of talk about himself, Mitt offers a sharp contrast to the Narcissist In Chief. Expect a lot of the vision of how Mitt sees American exceptionalism, and where he wants to take the country. How he wants to expand the private sector, and put the power back into the hands of the people. I don’t expect many attacks on Obama, I expect a forward looking speech which will also explain just why Mitt is the person for the job.

Oh, and one of his best parts was, as Ace points out, a shout out to Obama’s “Life Of Julia”

College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life. Everyone who feels stuck in the Obama economy is right to focus on the here and now. And I hope you understand this too, if you’re feeling left out or passed by: You have not failed, your leaders have failed you. None of us have to settle for the best this administration offers – a dull, adventureless journey from one entitlement to the next, a government-planned life, a country where everything is free but us. Listen to the way we’re spoken to already, as if everyone is stuck in some class or station in life, victims of circumstances beyond our control, with government there to help us cope with our fate. It’s the exact opposite of everything I learned growing up in Wisconsin, or at college in Ohio. When I was waiting tables, washing dishes, or mowing lawns for money, I never thought of myself as stuck in some station in life. I was on my own path, my own journey, an American journey where I could think for myself, decide for myself, define happiness for myself. That’s what we do in this country. That’s the American Dream. That’s freedom, and I’ll take it any day over the supervision and sanctimony of the central planners.

Again, it’s a vast difference in vision: Obama’s stagnation and government dependence, or having a chance to do it on your own. Freedom.

Obama Does Reddit, Says Afghan Surge Toughest Decision

Yesterday, while some Democrats and media sources were wondering about whether it was appropriate for the GOP to hold their convention as Isaac was striking Louisiana, Obama was holding numerous campaign events, including an on-line convo on Reddit (you can see all the questions and answers together here). The Washington Post has the top 5 most awesome questions, but, here is the most interesting

Q: What was the most difficult decision that you had to make during this term?

Obama: The decision to surge our forces in afghanistan. Any time you send our brave men and women into battle, you know that not everyone will come home safely, and that necessarily weighs heavily on you. The decision did help us blunt the taliban’s momentum, and is allowing us to transition to afghan lead – so we will have recovered that surge at the end of this month, and will end the war at the end of 2014. But knowing of the heroes that have fallen is something you never forget.

Well, that’s very interesting. We can discuss his opposition to the Iraqi surge (when Bush was President) and other issues surrounding the Afghany surge, whether it worked, etc, but, consider: he says this was his toughest decision. How does he handle it when US military members are killed?

(Gateway Pundit) On August 6, 2011, 30 US service members were killed when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter they were being transported in crashed in Wardak province, Afghanistan. It was the deadliest single loss for U.S. forces in the decade-long war in Afghanistan. 17 members of the elite Navy SEALs were killed in the crash.

Yesterday, Karen and Billy Vaughn, parents of Aaron Carson Vaughn, spoke at the Defending the Defenders forum sponsored by the Tea Party Patriots outside the RNC Convention in Tampa. Karen brought a copy of the form letter they were sent following their son’s death.

It’s a form letter.

It was signed by an electric pen.

In fact, other parents of SEALs killed in that crash received the exact same thing

So, Obama’s “toughest” decision leads him to not even bother signing the letters of condolence himself. Fortunately, he took the time to send a personal letter of condolence on the death of ……rap singer Heavy D.

Chapel Hill Pulls Anti-Israel Ad, But Not Because It’s Anti-Israel

In the enlightened People’s Republic Of Chapel Hill, being anti-Israel is the norm, but, God Gaia help you if the government mandate contact info is missing

(WRAL) A political advertisement calling for the end of U.S. aid to Israel that was posted inside Chapel Hill buses has been pulled, but town officials say it’s not because the ad prompted objections from some riders.

Officials said the ad, which ran in as many as 100 buses between Aug. 13-24, was pulled earlier this week because it did not include contact information for the Church of Reconciliation, which purchased it. The town code requires such information on display ads that are political or religious.

So, The PRCH was willing to take the money for an anti-Israel ad as long as it had contact info on it. Gotta cross the governmental I’s and T’s. Of course, being the PRCH, good luck if you tried the same in proposing that all aid to the murderous Palestinian’s, who intentionally target civilians, including women and children, be stopped. Pretty much because all these hippy liberals support the Palestinians and would like to see Israel disappear. Granted, not all of them, but a good chunk, and discussing pro-Israel sentiment is a Bad Idea in the PRCH.

Notice, nothing about the Palestinians. If you head to that website you’ll find that the vast majority of blame is placed on Israel. On the “roots of the conflict“, no mention of Palestinian homicide bombers attacking civilians. A nice little quote is provided in saying, to paraphrase, that those damned greedy Jews just want more land.

A few of the wars are mentioned, but they fail to disclose that Israel was attacked multiple times by multiple Arab nations in concert. Typical of hardcore leftists.

“Historic” Obama CAFE Standards To Raise Auto Costs

I remember seeing a Tweet from Obama yesterday about them passing “historic” new auto MPG standards, because obviously no one else has ever passed them. Hell, if Obama bakes cookies, it’s probably historic. But, as for real historic

(Washington Post) The Obama administration announced strict new vehicle fuel-efficiency standards Tuesday, requiring that the U.S. auto fleet average 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, an uncontroversial move that, unlike other administration energy policies, was endorsed by industry and environmentalists alike.

The new rules, announced by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa P. Jackson, expand on existing standards requiring American-made cars and light trucks to average 34.5 mpg by 2016. They will significantly cut U.S. oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by the time they are fully implemented, according to the EPA.

“Customers want higher fuel efficiency in their cars and trucks, and GM is going to give it to them,” said Greg Martin, General Motors’ executive director for communications. “We expect the rules to be tough, but we have a strong history of innovation, and we’ll do our best to meet them.”

Yeah, that type of “innovation” has led to vehicles that are much lighter, meaning that they are more deaths from auto accidents. If customers really wanted higher fuel efficiency GM and others would do this, not have the government force them to do it.

Auto dealers warned Tuesday that making the technical changes required to achieve greater efficiency would increase the average price of a vehicle by $3,000 by the time the rules are fully implemented.

“This increase shuts almost 7 million people out of the new-car market entirely and prevents many millions more from being able to afford new vehicles that meet their needs,” Bill Underriner, who chairs the National Automobile Dealers Association, said in a statement.

Well, do we really want so many cars on the road? That’s bad for globull warming, and, hey, look

In addition to increasing fuel efficiency, the rules also establish an emissions standard of 144 grams of carbon dioxide per mile for passenger cars and 203 grams of CO2 per mile for trucks.

So, more globull warming rules by executive fiat. Must be nice to be the king and drive around in a vehicle that pays absolutely zero attention to the rules passed for Everyone Else.

Democrats Apparently Can Hear At A Higher Pitch Than Republicans

(Washington Examiner) The job of many liberal journalists these days apparently is to discern veiled Republican racism wherever they can find it –or make it up.

The Washington Post’s Harold Meyerson, for instance has a tired column today asserting that “today’s Republican Party represents the worst traditions of the South’s dankest backwaters.” Basically opposing tax hikes and greenhouse-gas emission caps show the GOP’s roots in white racism, or something.

Meanwhile Jack Hitt at Harpers rolls out a Republicans-are-Racist charge that involves ignoring all the relevant facts.

The WE’s Timothy P. Carney goes on to explain just how stupid and factually dishonest the Harper’s piece was, in somehow saying that because Republicans were chanting USA during the speech of a Hispanic woman there was dog whistle racism involved. Of course, then facts came out. Read the whole thing.

NY Times Oddly Unimpressed With Republicans “You Did Build That” Message

In yesterday’s Fish Wrap Of Record there were a total of 3 opinion pieces whining about Republicans taking Obama’s “you didn’t build that!” comment out of context with the RNC motto of “You Did Build That!” Here’s the Times’ uber-far left Editorial Board

It was appropriate that “We built it,” the needling slogan of the evening, was painted on the side of the convention hall. Speaker after speaker alluded to the phrase in an entire day based on the thinnest of reeds — a poorly phrased remark by the president, deliberately taken out of context. President Obama was making the obvious point that all businesses rely to some extent on the work and services of government. But Mr. Romney has twisted it to suggest that Mr. Obama believes all businesses are creatures of the government, and so the convention had to parrot the line.

Actually, that’s exactly what Obama was alluding to. I bet Henry Jarvis Raymond, who founded the NY Times, would disagree with the Editorial Board and say “damned right I built this paper!”

Here’s Nicholas Kristoff, who mentions that one of the speakers had taken government sponsored loans, goes on to say

In short, the Republicans are inadvertently underscoring the point that President Obama was expressing in his “you didn’t build that” comment in July. Obama noted then that “if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.” He pointed to public investments in roads and bridges that enable businesses to flourish, and then he inelegantly added, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.” (big snip)

Who built this country? Entrepreneurs, yes. But so did schoolteachers and railway construction workers. Doctors and truckers. Scientists and soldiers. You didn’t build it, Mitt Romney — we all built it.

“We did build that,” has already been established as one of the more dishonest political memes in a campaign season undisturbed by shame. The Republicans took a clumsy phrase from an Obama speech in July, in which the president pointed out that most American business successes have been assisted by infrastructure, education or incentives underwritten by the government. The Republican spin-masters whipped this into a preposterous claim that Obama denied American entrepreneurs any credit for their creations. The fact that this slogan has been thoroughly debunked has not kept it from being the defining theme in Tampa.

Bill, like many others, decides to highlight the entire Obama comment, which is worse than just the first line. While it’s certainly true that Obama mentions many public works and the notion that we do need others to make our businesses successful, his world view seems to revolve around the notion that only with Government can a business get off the ground and get going.

Who is government? Why, the taxpayers. The citizens. Consider Obama’s line right after the “you didn’t build that”

Somebody else made that happen.

During this horrible speech, Obama mentions roads, bridges, and teachers, among others. He goes on to say “Government research created the Internet…” He does eventually pay homage to “individual initiative”, but what he is espousing is a monumentally different world view in which Big Government is super mega-awesome and nothing can be done without it, that “somebody else made that happen.”

Yes, you the person with that business did need others to make that business successful. You probably needed roads and bridges, the Internet and teachers. Who built that? Well, you did, with your tax dollars. Interestingly, it is typically private companies contracted out who build/maintain those bridges and roads. You need energy. A private company built that. Private companies expand the Internet. Teachers paid by your tax money teach people who make money to buy your product. Commerce is interconnected.

But, who did build your business, who put their ass on the line? You did. You took the chance. You may have gotten a loan from a bank, or a financial institution like…..Bain Capital….., but your butt is on the line to make the business work. Without your creativity, your leap of faith, your hard work, it doesn’t get off the ground. It starts with you. Not government. Reading the entire comment by Obama in context, it’s quite obvious that a successful business starts with Government in his world. That is the fundamental difference.

Conservatives/Republicans believe you are at the top of the pyramid of success: Obama thinks Government is. Perhaps that’s why the economy under Obama is so horrible.
