Surprise! Another Obama Admin. Backed Solar Company Goes Bankrupt

(Heritage) A solar company that got a multi-million-dollar grant from the Department of Energy earlier this year announced Wednesday that it will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, making it the second taxpayer-backed green energy company to file for bankruptcy this week.

Satcon Technology Corp. announced the decision in a Wednesday news release. “This has been a difficult time for Satcon,” president and CEO Steve Rhoades said. “After careful consideration of available alternatives, the Company’s Board of Directors determined that the Chapter 11 filings were a necessary and prudent step, allowing the Company to continue to operate while giving us the opportunity to reorganize with a stronger balance sheet and capital structure.”

Satcon received a $3 million DOE grant in January to develop “a compact, lightweight power conversion device that is capable of taking utility-scale solar power and outputting it directly into the electric utility grid at distribution voltage levels—eliminating the need for large transformers.”

Now, I’m sure some on the Left will proudly proclaim that $3 million is a drop in the bucket, which is true, but, it doesn’t deflect from the point that the Obama administration (and government in general) is highly wasteful with the money that is forcibly taken from the citizens of America….those who have jobs, that is, and haven’t given up on the jobs market in despair. Well over a million kids could be served a meal at school with that money. This is one of the ways we have nickle and dimed ourselves to $16 trillion in debt.

The US government is the ultimate 1%er, except they are pissing away Other People’s money rather than they’re own on silly projects which are bound to fail.

And, just as big a point is that the Obama admin. is attempting to pick winners and losers in the private sector, and mostly picking losers. The Lonely Conservative points to a list from Heritage of all the “green” companies that the Obama admin has invested taxpayer money in which have failed. Satcon makes 36.

Shocking Number Of Obama Supporters Clueless About Benghazi

It really should be no surprise that Obama supporters are divorced from reality: these are the same people who were voting for “hope and change” rather than any sort of concrete plans, and still support Obama because he’s….well, because he’s Obama, since most of Obama’s policies have been disasters. Remember the video from 2008 which showed the stupidity of those planning to vote for Obama? This one is just as bad

(The Blaze)…as it turns out, some of Obama’s supporters don’t even know the Benghazi attack occurred in the first place — and as they say, what you don’t know can’t hurt you.

Revealing Politics went to an Obama event at Ohio University on Oct. 17 and asked a number of the president’s supporters about the Benghazi attack. The conservative site says “most of the event attendees” had never heard of the terrorist act.

“So, what do you guys think about the situation in Benghazi?” an interviewer with Revealing Politics asks two girls.

“I have no idea,” one of them replies, giggling her head off.

One man said he thinks “the Republicans” were responsible for the attack while an alarming number of others could not identify Ambassador Stevens or recall a terrorist attack occurring in Benghazi.

Facepalm time!

Over at the Daily Caller, Jamie Weinstein discusses the Top 10 groups of people who shouldn’t vote (and takes shots at both sides). The above type of clueless morons who have no idea about current events should be included on the list. Instead of voter ID, there should be a test to determine if people have the necessary knowledge on domestic and foreign affairs to make in informed voting decision.

Sigh: Biden Wonders How Many Have “Served In Iran”

(ABC News) “How many of you know someone who served in Iraq or Iran?” Biden asked the audience.

Wait, it gets so much better

In reply, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid raised his hand.

“How many of you know someone who has been injured or lost in Iraq or Iran?” Biden asked again. “Well, let me tell you something. We owe … these families more than we can ever pay them.”

He also talked about the GOP have guns pointed at people, hence the change of headline at ABC News (though the permalink is about the buffoonery about Iran). Imagine a Republican said that? He or she would be demonized for “uncivil rhetoric”. And blasted for confusing Iran and Afghanistan, because those words are just so darned close in pronunciation.

Liberals Rather Upset Over The Way Romney Talks To Obama

Comedian D.L. Hughley appeared on Current’s “Joy Behar: Say Anything!” on Wednesday, where he issued a scathing assessment of Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s performance at the second presidential debate. In addition to claiming that he has a “tremendous amount of disdain” for the GOP candidate, the entertainer accused the candidate of speaking to President Barack Obama as though he were his servant.

“To me, watching Mitt Romney, who I have a tremendous amount of disdain for…I think that the way he talked to the president of the United States last night was like a man talking to a servant,” he told Behar.

More like the way a superior talks to an underling who is a total screwup.

Matthews later played a clip of the memorable exchange between Romney and Obama over permits for energy exploration on federal land, which are down over the last four years. As Obama attempted to interrupt Romney, he told the president “you’ll get your chance” to talk.

“I don’t think he understands the Constitution of the United States…He’s the President of the United States. You don’t say, ‘you’ll get your chance,’” Matthews said.

Yeah, you do. But, you know, dog whistles or something

Lipton added: “If Mitt Romney were the president and Barack Obama were the challenger, and these roles were reversed, and Obama treated Romney – the president in this construct – the way he was treated, you would have heard an outcry from coast to coast and you would never, ever hear the end of it…It is rude. It’s inexcusable. I think it’s a very, very sad day when the presidency, which has been under fire since Nixon — and particular this president — can be treated this way by someone who is an American citizen.”

Last time I checked, Obama (and any POTUS) works for us, the American citizenry. Not the other way around.

Bummer: Climate Change Creates Worst European Wine Season In Half A Century

I blame you, dear reader, for failing to reduce your big fossil fueled life, refusing to take just one 2 minute shower a day, using more than two sheets of TP, and living a 1st world lifestyle

(The Day) Winemaker Cherie Spriggs had watched the weather over southern England’s vineyards all season long. It just wasn’t good enough for Nyetimber, her award-winning sparkling wine.

“‘I have never seen a situation like this before,” Spriggs said. She was left with only one option and the company decided to forego the 2012 harvest.

Few have gone as far as Nyetimber but drought, frost and hail have combined to ravage Europe’s wine grape harvest, which in key regions this year will be the smallest in half a century.

Thierry Coste, an expert with the European Union farmers’ union, said Wednesday that France’s grape harvest is expected to slump by almost 20 percent compared with last year. Italy’s grape crop showed a 7 percent drop – on top of a decline in 2011.

“Two big producing nations, France and Italy, have not known a harvest so weak in 40 to 50 years,” Coste said. “All the major producing nations have been hurt.”

That’s right, frost, as in “cold freaking weather.” As in zero degrees Celsius in the South of Europe in the wine growing areas. These are the same conditions which were seen during the last cooling period, from the 1940’s to the late 70’s, of which many were worried about a “coming ice age”. The same conditions which were prevalent in Europe during the Little Ice Age and Dark Ages (it was a cool period). Dry and cool.

Coste did blame it on “climate change”, but did go on to say that it was natural. Waiting for Warmists to blame this on Mankind in 3…2…1…., using their talking points about trapped heat from greenhouse gases causing it to get cold.

Feinstein Blames Intelligence, State For Libya Debacle

Chucking them under the bus, or reality? We certainly know that the State Department screw the pooch royally, in that they wanted a low key security presence in Libya, and particularly the Benghazi Consulate, depending upon a local militia group, the February 17 Martyrs Brigade (which supposedly has links to the same group that attacked the Consulate, linked to al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood), for security, along with not only refusing to increase security when asked, but telling those who were asking to just stop asking

(CBS San Fran) he head of the U.S. Senate’s Intelligence Committee said Wednesday that it appeared an intelligence mistake along with inadequate security were to blame for the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the American Embassy in Benghazi, Libya that claimed the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens, a Bay Area native, and three others.

“I can tell you this, I think we do know what happened now. There’s no question but that it was a terrorist attack, there is no question but that the security was inadequate and I think that there is no question that we need to work on our intelligence,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) during an exclusive interview with CBS 5.

As to intelligence, she’s not blaming the intelligence community per se for having inadequate intelligence pre-attack, she’s blaming them for putting “out some speaking points on the initial intelligence assessment.” In particular “the director of intelligence”. The question is, which one? What is needed is to have the intelligence agents in front of a Congressional panel, surely closed to the public, and get to the heart of the matter. What intelligence did they provide? Why would intelligence be providing “speaking points” rather than, you know, intelligence?

So, we know the State Department blew it big time pre-attack and post-attack. The question is, did the intelligence community blow it? Were the monitoring what was going on in Libya pre-attack? Even the news media knew that Benghazi was becoming increasingly dangerous to Westerners. We were told in the news that the eastern part of Libya was seeing increased jihadi groups going back to when Obama was using our air power against Libya. And, if they didn’t give stupid “speaking points”, will someone speak out against being constantly blamed?

Oh, and then there is this, as reported by Reuters this morning

The State Department’s decision to hire Blue Mountain Group to guard the ill-fated U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, entrusted security tasks to a little-known British company instead of the large firms it usually uses in overseas danger zones.

The contract was largely based on expediency, U.S. officials have said, since no one knew how long the temporary mission would remain in the Libyan city. The cradle of last year’s uprising that ended Muammar Gaddafi’s 42-year rule, Benghazi has been plagued by rising violence in recent months.

Security practices at the diplomatic compound, where Blue Mountain guards patrolled with flashlights and batons instead of guns, have come under U.S. government scrutiny in the wake of the September 11 attack in Benghazi that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

Obama Giving Up On North Carolina?

(Politico) The president’s campaign has remained on the television airwaves and his wife made a prominent debate-day push in advance of early-voting kicking off in the state.

However, President Obama has not stepped foot in the state since his convention drew to a close nearly six weeks ago.  After he touches down in Iowa and New Hampshire this week, every other battleground state will have gotten some in-person Obama post-convention love except for the Tar Heel state.

Michelle was just in Chapel Hill on the campus of UNC yesterday (then took an unnecessary and evil fossil fueled plane trip to Hampstead, NY for the debate). Biden has been here in the intervening weeks since the DNC convention. But, no Obama. And, I have noticed that the number of pro-Obama ads have been drying up over the last few weeks, at least on the channels I watch.

The most recent poll is from the far left Public Policy Polling, giving Romney a 2 point advantage (49-47). Oh, and that is with a ….. wait for it…… +10 Democrat sampling (D45 R35 I21). And women sampled 54% to 46% men. And only includes 20% over 65 (seniors tend to have higher voting rates. This does not bode well at all for Obama. Bummer. Other interesting tidbits from the poll

  • Obama is found unfavorable by 50% (48% approve)
  • Romney is found favorable by 49% (46 unfavorable)
  • Ryan favorable by 48% (46% not)

Did I mention this was a +10 Dem sample?

Oh, and Black support is waning for Obama in NC.

Apparently I’m Funded By The Energy Industry

I mentioned this unhinged Daily Beast article earlier in the day, meant to hold off on it till this afternoon, because this is hilarious (via Climate Depot)

In short, nearly every climate skeptic been funded by the energy industry.

Where’s my cash?

Um, who are the Warmists funded by? And why are they making so much cash off pushing AGW?

Al Gore is about 50 times richer than he was when he left the vice presidency in 2001. According to an Oct. 11 report by The Post’s Carol D. Leonnig, Gore accumulated a Romneyesque $100 million partly through investing in alternative-energy firms subsidized by the Obama administration.

Oh, and from Watts Up With That? we find that the climate was much warmer 1,000 years ago.
