Immigrants are closing bank accounts in favor of storing cash at home and may be borrowing less, rights advocates and data analysts say. The share of consumer loans to a group of borrowers that includes many undocumented people has slumped by more than 70% since 2024, according to a recent report. And some lenders say they are becoming more cautious about extending credit to undocumented people, said an industry group representative who asked not to be named discussing sensitive matters.

Under the Patriot Act, way back in 2001, people had to present a current, valid photo ID to open bank accounts, which meant that many illegals have been dealing mostly in cash. One of the ways the illegals have been getting around the Form I-9 requirement to work here legally is to work for cash.
But working for cash means evading income and Social Security/Medicare taxes as well, and that is a felony. This is the part that those who support the illegals ignore: it’s not just our immigration laws that they are breaking, but other laws as well. Once here illegally, they have to keep breaking our laws to survive.
Time to have ICE raid banks and arrest some bankers, don’t you think? We know, we know, these illegal bankers are mostly white males and pillars of the community but no one is above the law, not even illegals in suits, keeping banker’s hours.
Is it hypocrisy that some illegals (bankers and employers) get rich off undocumented workers but suffer no consequences, other than having to recruit other underpaid undocumented workers?

That will make easier in two ways. First, civil forfeiture can be used to defund them.
