Calgary Hit With Massive Amount Of Globull Warming Snowfall

Bet they’d be having a lot of fun biking instead of taking fossil fueled travel

(Calgary Sun) Calgarians suffered the same white plight that befell Edmonton just the day before as record amounts of snow blanketed the city and the rest of southern Alberta.

By 5 p.m., 11 cm were on the ground in Calgary, another 15 cm expected overnight, and yet another 10 cm expected Friday, Environment Canada reported.

Environment Canada said average snowfall for all of November is about 16 cm.

The record snowfall for Nov. 8 is 12.6 cm, set in 1973, and November’s all-time high snowfall is 35.6 cm, set on Nov. 13. 1914.

It’s still snowing in Calgary, as of this morning when I wrote the post. Calgary also received lots of snow in October. Like, record amounts.

Earth To Boil In Future, Says New Study

Warmists really just can’t help themselves. Years ago they told Climate Realists that weather was not climate. Now, every storm is proof of “climate change”, even snow storms and long cold periods. I personally love their insane argument about snow, where they say a warmer climate creates more water vapor creating more snow. I guess it was super warm during the last ice age. DERP face. And the Warmists are back attempting to say that storms will be worse and it will get super duper hot

Warmer still: Extreme climate predictions appear most accurate, report says

Except for the fact that the current world temperature is the same as it was 16 years ago.

Climate scientists agree the Earth will be hotter by the end of the century, but their simulations don’t agree on how much. Now a study suggests the gloomier predictions may be closer to the mark.

“Warming is likely to be on the high side of the projections,” said John Fasullo of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., a co-author of the report, which was based on satellite measurements of the atmosphere.

That means the world could be in for a devastating increase of about eight degrees Fahrenheit by 2100, resulting in drastically higher seas, disappearing coastlines and more severe droughts, floods and other destructive weather.

And withing 3 paragraphs we’ve already degenerated into soothsaying: “could”. Not will. No statistical predictive number is provided to asses the likelyhood of a rise of 8 degrees in the future when everyone will have forgotten the prediction. It’s not like their predictions have failed in the past, ya know.

Climate scientists around the world use supercomputers to simulate the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. Sophisticated programs attempt to predict how climate will change as society continues burning coal, oil and gas, the main sources of heat-trapping gases such as carbon dioxide.

Garbage in, garbage out, especially when they quite often discount/under utilize/don’t included the effects of the sun and water vapor.

No supercomputer is powerful enough to predict cloud cover decades into the future, so Fasullo and colleague Kevin Trenberth struck on another method to test which of the many climate simulations most accurately predicted clouds: They looked at relative humidity. When humidity rises, clouds form; drier air produces fewer clouds. That makes humidity a good proxy for cloud cover.

Really? I live in North Carolina. There are many, many, many days in which the humidity is horrendous, yet, the sky is relatively clear most of the day. I bet many of you can say the same. It’s the upper level atmospheric water content that matters. If you aren’t specifically including cloud cover in your models, they’re worthless.

Scientists not involved in the research said the report, funded by NASA and scheduled for publication Friday in the journal Science, could improve the predictions made by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in its next comprehensive report, due in 2013. The panel is a world body organized by the United Nations to guide policymakers as they struggle to curb and adapt to climate change. The world has warmed by about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880, a rise scientists nearly uniformly attribute to carbon pollution from fossil fuels.

1.4 F? That’s it since the end of the little ice age? This is not, as Joe Biden would say, a “big f*cking deal.” It is less than one would expect during a warm period. The previous warm periods were up several degrees F higher. This is not science, it’s politics. Particularly since so few Warmists practice what they preach.

Oh, and it’s neither carbon nor pollution. Science!

Double oh, don’t these super computers use one heck of a lot of energy? That would mean, by Warmist doctrine, that they are bad for hotcoldwetdry. So these researchers are part of the problem.

Welcome To ObamaWorld: Large Number Of Companies Announce Layoffs Post Election

Quite a few companies are giving their position on the election outcome

(The Blaze) Do elections have consequences? If you have been paying attention to the financial markets, you might think so. Wall Street has had two horrible days since President Obama won a second term.

However, stock prices are not the only thing taking a hit. It appears that the job market is also suffering. In the last 48 hours, the following major corporations have announced layoffs in America (links take you to news stories about the layoffs – with details from the companies):

Also mentioned is Darden Restaurants, which is going to limit workers to 28 hours a week to avoid ObamaCare requirements regarding full time workers.

The story also lists a large number of companies that announced that they are closing. And then we go to Daily Job Cuts and find more (partial list)

We also get many more closings, including

And plenty more small companies.

Are all these a pure response to Obama’s re-election? Surely, no. There are layoffs and closings every day. But, this was a huge number post election, and those super evil rich people who provide the jobs are certainly highlighting the state of the economy and what they expect the economy to do in the future. They’re telling people they voted for lollipops and unicorns, they voted because they prefer likeability over competence and experience, they voted for more of the same and blamestorming over a proven track record of success. Quite a few companies are laying people off directly due to the ObamaCare tax that’s a penalty but a tax but a penalty. From Twitchy we get

I’m offering a shiny new unicorn to any reporter who asks Obama about all the layoffs and closings. That is, if Obama deigns to take questions. Doubtful.

Good News! Another IPCC Vacation Meeting Coming Soon

And what a vacation it will be! They get to visit Qatar from Novermber 26 through December 7th. Tory Aardvark has a few thoughts, and wonders if anyone is going (well, surely those who are going on Someone Else’s dime will)

It has all been downhill for the warming alarmists since COP15 in Copenhagen where 33526 delegates and press attended what they called Hopenhagen, where the hope was to destroy western industrialised society and pave the way for the Green Hell of the Agrarian Dream.

Then in a flash Climategate destroyed the illusion of Anthropogenic Global Warming, despite the then socialist British Prime Minister Gordon Brown telling us there only 50 days to save the world and the current incumbent socialist US President Barack Obama saying the science is settled.

Then just as the great Green socialist hope for one world government, Barack Obama flew into Copenhagen to save the world from what was then called Global Warming, Gaia saw fit to unleash an unprecedented  irony on the warmists with a massive snow storm that forced Obama to leave early citing “weather constraints in Washington“

Last years UN Climate Circus COP17 in Durban attracted just 12,500 delegates, where 7300 were from Green NGOs and journalists, COP17 like its predecessors COP16 and COP15 achieved nothing, but did provide yet another exotic location for the saviours of the planet to consume huge quantities of fossil fuel and enjoy 5 star luxury living while saving the planet.

Boom! The numbers in attendance have fallen, but there are still plenty of dupes who will take unnecessary fossil fueled flights to proclaim that no one else should take fossil fueled flights. Though, I’m not sure that having a meeting close to the crazy nation of Iran is such a good idea. But, fortunately, the Iranian leaders hold the same views on “climate change” as most in attendance at the COP18 working vacation. I hear they have some great golf there. They even hold a big tournament in Doha, the same city COP18 will be held in.

Bummer: Pot Is Bad For Hotcoldwetdry

Many are thrilled that Washington and Colorado approved marijuana for recreational use. Personally, I could care less. I don’t smoke it. I used to when in high school and the first years of college, but, it stopped being fun (note: I don’t drink much, either). I’m not worried about pot being super bad, as it is less dangerous of a drug than alcohol. If people want to use it, so be it. If States want to make it legal (though HIGHLY controlled and taxed), that’s what is supposed to happen. It will be interesting to see how the highly politicized Obama DOJ reacts, since marijuana is a federal Schedule I drug, in the same class as cocaine and crack. But, hey, Grist is here to throw cold water on those who are psyched

This likely means increased production to meet newly legal needs, which likely means more impact on the environment.

Marijuana advocates point to the fact that it’s “just a plant.” They’re not wrong! But it’s a plant that’s often shipped hundreds of miles from production to consumer, and either grown indoors at tremendous energy costs, or cultivated outdoors to the detriment of the local landscape.

And energy usage, all those evil incandescent bulbs mimicking sunlight, is bad for “climate change”. Growing outside can be bad for the real environment, and you have all those miles for shipment of pot (fossil fuels), so, it’s better that you grow it at home, but, back to energy

Unfortunately, they won’t avoid massive energy costs from the bright artificial lights used for up to 20 hours a day in order to speed up nature. About a quarter of the cost of weed grown inside is the cost of energy – which some studies say could be 1 percent of all the energy used in the U.S. And that’s been without legalization.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Surprise! Obama Supporters Want Israel Dead

RebelPundit’s Anne Sorok exposes the Left with their own words, as Obama supporters were out celebrating

From The Blaze on Sorok’s video

“It really mean to me, no more Israel,” one supporter said. The rest of the man’s answer is almost entirely indiscernible as English. However, TheBlaze will try to transcribe his comments as accurately as possible:

“Iran. Man, to tell you the truth, if mother f**ker Obama, if uh, they thought Mitt Romney was going to war with mother f**king Iran. And they felt, the mother f**ker, what’s his name? Notnuhnoo [sic],” he continued.

“Oh, Netanyahu?” Sorock clarifies.

“He felt the mother f**ker was going to war with f**king Iran, he felt Obama wasn’t going to go with that sh*t though. Obama fell back like man, f**k that sh*t, kill those mother f**kers,” he concluded.

There’s your typical leftist. Taking the side of Iran and wanting to see Israel wiped out, or at least forced to give up most of the land they won as they were attacked multiple times by Arab nations. Leftists sympathize with terrorists who stand against everything Liberals stand for…well, they do agree on destroying Israel.

The Lonely Conservative: “What a nice, civil society Obama has created.”

My Two Cents: Why Obama Won And Romney Lost

This will probably be the last post on the meaning of this loss, but, this is part of a conversation I was having with a moderate Republicans who voted Obama and a moderate Liberal who voted Romney late yesterday.  Consider that, in exit polls,

  • 52% said that the country is on the wrong track.
  • Only 23% rated the economy positively.
  • Only 25% said they were better off than 4 years ago. 51% want smaller government.
  • 38% said unemployment was their most important issue, 37% said rising prices

Those are some big points. Yet, somehow, Obama won. One reason could be that Obama beats Romney 53% to 43% on being able to relate to the average voter. Ace provides ten reason as to why Romney lost. Surprisingly, turnout was also low, in what should have been a big election for the Right. Did those who where Obama voters, but said they preferred Romney now stay home? Who knows?

John Hinderaker writes why

…there is a much more important proposition that, I think, was proved false last night: that America is a center-right country. This belief is one that we conservatives have cherished for a long time, but as of today, I think we have to admit that it is false. America is a deeply divided country with a center-left plurality. This plurality includes a vast number of citizens who describe themselves as moderates, but whose views on the issues are identical or similar to those that have historically been deemed liberal.

Is that right, that we are a center left nation now? On one hand, no. When people are asked for self identification, they choose liberal less than conservative. When people are given surveys, their answer invariably put them more on the right then the left. They want smaller, less intrusive, less spending, and more responsible government. This certainly bears out in the State races and for the US House. However, it seems when we vote for President and Senate we get votes for the hard fascistic left. Why? Refer back to Aces reasons. Let’s also consider three things

  1. Most of America are soundbite and driveby voters. They are not paying attention to the details. They hear soundbites. They see quick commercials and ads. They do not dig into the details. They do not find out the reality. They hear and see things about Romney being mean when it comes to Bain, but don’t take the time to find out that Romney wasn’t at Bain at that time. There’s a trope about most people being captured for 30 seconds or 3 paragraphs on the web. Many times, the reality is buried in articles, which disproves the headline and/or the initial info in an article. These are people who can tell you the intimate details of Lindsay Lohan’s life, but can’t give you the details on what the policy positions are of the people they are going to vote for. They get involved late in the game, agitate and speechify, but are speaking in talking points. And often wrong.
  2. Which leads to the media. The vast majority of the media leans to the left, and, as we all know, push their political leanings in their stories. And by not pushing stories. Imagine had Fast and Furious and Benghazi occurred under a Republican president. There would be massive investigation by the media. Instead, when they bothered to cover these stories, they mostly offered protection for Democrats and the President. How many stories were written about Abu Ghraid? While certainly massively improper conduct, no one was really hurt, and no one died. The DOD, including Rumsfeldt, already knew about it and actions were being taken. Yet, the media laid it directly at Bush’s feet. Cindy Sheehan was a media darling, the parents of the ex-SEALs killed in Benghazi were mostly ignored. The media is almost wholly a branch of the DNC at this point. While they were bad in 2004 (remember the fake CBS report on Bush?), they were worse in 2008, and might as well have been on Obama’s payroll in 2012.
  3. People like free stuff. And when it comes to voting, it seems that even moderates and Independents like free stuff, and respond to messages of free stuff in their voting habits. Doesn’t matter than 40% is paid for with borrowed money, that the rest is someone else’s money, that the debt is projected to go up another $4 trillion under Obama, that deficits are over a trillion dollars, that there is around $172 trillion (that’s $172,000,000,000,000) in unpaid liabilities on the books, they want some of that sweet, sweet federal money. Yet almost half of taxpayers have a net zero federal tax liability. They have no skin in the game. And don’t realize that the people with money are going to shift it to shelter it. They want their free stuff. It’s hard to compete against a message of free stuff with a message of “hey, we want to empower you to make your own money.”

So, what is to be done? Liberals own the media, the schools, and the government bureaucracies. Conservatives have small parts in all three, but will never be able to take any over. It would take at least a century. Liberals/progressives have been working on these for at least that long. Romney ran a great campaign: he was the adult in the room, the guy with experience and competence. He appeared presidential. He had viable, real world plans. He wasn’t promising hopey changey unicorns and lollipops. He talked to people, not down to them. Yet, he lost.

One thing I’ve been saying for the better part of a decade is that Republicans need to fight like Democrats. They need to get down in the mud. Who’s really throwing Granny off the cliff? It’s those who refuse to reform the safety net systems that are almost bankrupt. Paint the Dems as extremists. Understand that two can play the game, and beat up on Democrats. A good chunk of Obama’s message was false and negative. The media rarely called him on it and the soundbite voters never took the time to find out the reality. Fight fire with fire. You might say “hey, we have our scruples, our morals”, but this is politics. It has always been a nasty game (heck, Hamilton and Burr dueled to the death over competing notions of how big the central government should be), and Republicans need to start playing this game when it comes to the presidency and the Senate. It’s a little easier with the House and State government. We need to learn that if you are going to fight, fight! The media will portray Republicans negatively regardless. Get your message out to the people, and make sure that the people know the faults of the Democrat. People respond to highly negative ads. Republicans can be the adult in the room when they’ve won.

Hooray! Wind Farm Noise Actually Does Harm People

Surprise!

(Telegraph) American and British researchers compared two groups of residents in the US state of Maine. One group lived within a mile of a wind farm and the second group did not.

Both sets of people were demographically and socially similar, but the researchers found major differences in the quality of sleep the two groups enjoyed.

The findings provide the clearest evidence yet to support long-standing complaints from people living near turbines that the sound from their rotating blades disrupts sleep patterns and causes stress-related conditions.

Make sure to read the whole thing.
