Know what this proves? That 2012 was hot in the continental US. What it doesn’t prove is anthropogenic causation. But, hey, it gets all the Warmists out and about spreading awareness as they drive to demonstrations in their fossil fueled vehicles
What they’re forgetting is that the study only encompasses the lower 48. Alaska has been cooling. Which isn’t proof of a coming ice age, either. Nor is it proof that “climate change” caused by mankind is causing cooling.
The numbers are in: 2012, the year of a surreal March heat wave, a severe drought in the Corn Belt and a huge storm that caused broad devastation in the Middle Atlantic States, turns out to have been the hottest year ever recorded in the contiguous United States.
How hot was it? The temperature differences between years are usually measured in fractions of a degree, but last year’s 55.3 degree average demolished the previous record, set in 1998, by a full degree Fahrenheit.
Still not as warm as previous warm periods.
Scientists said that natural variability almost certainly played a role in last year’s extreme heat and drought. But many of them expressed doubt that such a striking new record would have been set without the backdrop of global warming caused by the human release of greenhouse gases. And they warned that 2012 was probably a foretaste of things to come, as continuing warming makes heat extremes more likely.
In other words, they know the warmth was primarily natural, but, hey, they have to keep the federal funding gravy train going, so they’ll make predictions with no facts.
The NY Times also attempts to blame weather events, which always happen, on the warming. Alas, they avoid mentioning that tornado strikes were at record lows, as were hurricane and tropical storm system strikes on the lower 48. And while the Times did mention all the heat records, 2012 didn’t even make the top 10 of years that saw records broken. And, of course, it’s easy to make the claim of being the hottest ever when the temperature data is being changed to match the meme.
But, what about the rest of the world? (via Climate Depot)
Since we are gping tp tout US warmth ( 2% of globe) lets look at that global temp trend shall we? twitter.com/BigJoeBastardi…
— Joe Bastardi (@BigJoeBastardi) January 1, 2013
So, when we look at the global temperatures, we see that most of the rest of the world is experiencing cooling temps. This doesn’t necessarily denote a coming ice age, or even a cool period. It could, but time will tell. But, when the majority of the world cooled despite rising CO2 levels, one has to wonder what’s going on, and what really drives climate in terms of temperature.
Oh, and if believers in “climate change” are really concerned, they might actually make their own lives “carbon neutral.”

Did you know that there was a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns? While they certainly have push, and in some cases enacted, initiatives to go after illegal guns, most seemed to be aimed at putting restrictions on law abiding citizens, rather than going after the criminals who use guns to injure and kill. Because getting tough on criminals would be hard! And offend the sensibilities of liberal do-gooders, who think that criminals, such as gang bangers, should be coddled.
(TMJ4) Milwaukee mothers are being called to action in a national effort to tighten gun control laws.
“To every mother, we can not wait. We have to demand a plan,” said Roxanna Green in a TV commercial running in Milwaukee.
Her daughter was killed two years ago today in the Tucson, Arizona shooting that critically injured congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns is running a TV ad in Milwaukee to promote the “Demand a Plan” website (www.demandaplan.org ) to end gun violence.
And what do they want? Mostly the same old same old, which mostly targets law abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional Rights
Oh, I like that last one. It would have gotten quite a few people in the Obama administration in trouble for Operation Fast and Furious, which further same over 200 Mexican citizens and at least 2 American federal agents murdered. But, the media doesn’t like to talk about that, I guess because they hate Mexicans.
Anyhow, they make it clear that 33 people are killed by guns everyday. I think most of them occur in Chicago and other gun free zones, but I could be wrong. Meanwhile, around 115 people die in car related accidents every day. We should ban them. That would make people safer. Oh, and there are approximately 3,000 babies murdered through abortion daily. We should save them.
When Mayor Barrett was in Congress he voted to ban assault rifles in 1994 but the ban expired in 2004. These days Barrett advocates for tighter gun control laws at the state and federal levels.
“To make sure people who are not legally able to get a gun, don’t get a gun!”
In other words, they are coming for the law abiding citizens 2nd Amendment Rights.

It’s been a while since I featured a truly bat guano insane article from Grist (I actually do check the site almost every day). Here we go
No Venus envy here: Earth’s evil twin shows us the climate change endgame
Imagine Earth with toxic air, stifling heat, no water, and no signs of life — sort of like Los Angeles. This is a world laid bare by massive and catastrophic climate change, and believe it or not, it isn’t science fiction. It’s our neighbor, Venus, and it’s more similar to Earth than you might want to believe.
Venus and Earth have a lot in common: They’re practically the same size, they’re made up of basically the same stuff, and early in the life of our solar system they were nearly identical, right down to oceans and moderate atmospheres. But then climate change arrived on Venus — the same processes that are playing out on our planet today with rising carbon dioxide and an increasing greenhouse effect — and transformed the planet into an uninhabitable, 900-degree wasteland swathed in clouds of sulfuric acid.
Um, yeah. What caused that greenhouse effect with rising CO2 and swathed in clouds of sulfuric acid? There no fossil fueled vehicles. No fossil fueled flight. No fossil fueled power plants. No life taking long showers, leaving their DVRs plugged in, refusing to buy local, refusing to use 2 sheets of TP, and no life “spreading awareness”. So, what actually caused Venus to be Venus? Could it possibly have been……*gulp*…..nature? Oh, and its location in relationship to that massive nuclear furnace in the center of the solar system?

Most liberals want gun control. Mostly on people other than themselves, but, I’ll ignore that for the moment. So, I’ll tell you what, in the spirit of compromise, here’s what I’ll offer:
In return I want
I think that’s eminently fair, a nice compromise. What do you think?
Oh, and I’ll tell you what: I’ll also give you
And you give me
Do we have a deal?
*For instance, here in Wake County one must go to the Sheriff’s office and pay for a background check and receive a permit for each handgun permit. I have two guns, so, two permits, two checks. I got the permit, then went to get a handgun in 2008. Then did it again early in 2012. Since I received a permit last year, if I wanted to get a Bushmaster .223 there would be no need for a check or permit.

There’s a reason I refer to it as hotcoldwetdry, and Warmists seem unclear as to how greenhouse gases work (via Tom Nelson)
Biting cold brings spectre of Global Warming closer, farmers worried but wheat crop safe
Average global temperatures have been rising since the late 1800s, with the most rapid warming occurring in the past 40 years, and winters in the northern hemisphere have grown colder and more extreme, according to a study.

A Secretary of Defense who’s soft on Iran and an Israel hater would match his boss
(CBS News) Iran’s Foreign Ministry says it is hopeful the appointment of former Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to lead the Pentagon would improve relations between Tehran and the U.S.
Asked about Hagel’s nomination, ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that Tehran was hopeful that there would be “practical changes” to U.S. foreign policy, and that nations would change their attitude towards the U.S. if it respected their rights.
Hagel’s nomination is causing jitters in Israel, on the other hand, where some view the former Nebraska senator as unsympathetic or even hostile.
This is typical of the political Left both in the United States and around the world, who would like to see Israel reduced back to the 1967 borders, if not totally eliminated, and often seem to see Iran as little darlings who are completely misunderstood. Iran with nukes? Bah. Stop looking under you bed for the boogeyman.
Hagel further refused to sign a letter asking the EU to designate Hezbollah a terrorist nation, and wanted to treat Hamas, a known and violent Islamist terrorist group, “pragmatically”.
On the notion of Hagel being anti-gay, there is disagreement. The Log Cabin Republicans are at odds with GOProud. I’m on the side of GOProud, I don’t see one comment as being anti-gay. But, consider if Hagel was being appointed by a Republican president: do you think the Liberals and Progressives would be up in arms over saying ““openly and aggressively gay†about another appointee? Instead, the vast majority on the left are ignoring the issue.
It’s his views on Islamists that is most troubling: he’s soft. He’s soft on Iran and terrorist groups. He also wants to cut the military to the bone. Granted, we need cuts. There is no need for so many over-seas bases post-cold war. Nor as many big weapons programs in the new paradigm of fighting terrorism. But, Hagel doesn’t have the experience to run the Pentagon.
Hagel’s nomination goes hand in hand with that of John Brennan for CIA director, whom Powerline terms an Arabist, partly due to his own anti-Israel leanings.
On one hand, you can’t blame her. On the other hand, she’s using her experience to attempt to infringe on Constitutional rights
(USA Today) In response to a horrific series of shootings that has sown terror in our communities, victimized tens of thousands of Americans, and left one of its own bleeding and near death in a Tucson parking lot, Congress has done something quite extraordinary — nothing at all.
Democrats have submitted 8 pieces of anti-gun people control legislation in the House, Republicans have submitted 2 pro-gun pro-people bills. Diane Feinstein plans to introduce a big comprehensive bill in the Senate.
Special interests purporting to represent gun owners but really advancing the interests of an ideological fringe have used big money and influence to cow Congress into submission. Rather than working to find the balance between our rights and the regulation of a dangerous product, these groups have cast simple protections for our communities as existential threats to individual liberties. Rather than conducting a dialogue, they threaten those who divert from their orthodoxy with political extinction.
So, first insult people. Good start. Second, there is no “balance between rights and regulation”, not when it comes to Government. We’ve heard this same argument about the TSA and about government surveillance. Rights are rights. Once the government starts infringing, they are lost, and the average citizen can’t stop The Government. No one saw it coming as the government started infringing on gun rights in Nazi Germany.
As a result, we are more vulnerable to gun violence. Weapons designed for the battlefield have a home in our streets. Criminals and the mentally ill can easily purchase guns by avoiding background checks. Firearm accessories designed for killing at a high rate are legal and widely available. And gun owners are less responsible for the misuse of their weapons than they are for their automobiles.
If you live in a big city, which tend to be Left leaning, yes, you are more vulnerable (to the tune of double the violent crime and murder rate), because you fools tolerate and coddle criminals.
Americans for Responsible Solutions, which we are launching today, will invite people from around the country to join a national conversation about gun violence prevention, will raise the funds necessary to balance the influence of the gun lobby, and will line up squarely behind leaders who will stand up for what’s right.
No, they will stand up for what their far left politics tell them, and to hell with the Constitution. What we aren’t really hearing, and we do not see at ARS, is any way to deal with the lunatics that use guns to commit mass murder ‘n suicide. Or how to deal with the criminals that use guns, particularly in metropolitan liberal areas, and especially liberal gun free zones, like Chicago.
When you have real solutions that don’t involve infringing on my rights and when all you liberals have given up your own guns and armed guards, come see me then. Until then, you have no right to force you anti-Constitutional viewpoint down my throat. And if you want my guns, bring bigger guns to take them.

This is a hoot, a Pat McCrory promise tracker
Gov. Pat McCrory took office on Jan. 5, 2013, and like all politicians has made some promises to get the post. As the state’s first Republican governor in 20 years, McCrory will face some unique problems and challenges, even with a GOP-controlled legislature.
WRAL News will keep up with the promises he made on the campaign trail to track his successes and failures over a four-year term. Is he able to cut taxes and reform government as he promised? Will teachers be paid for performance and will North Carolina move ahead with natural gas drilling?
While some outlets did keep track of Obama’s promises, WRAL did not. Nor did they do the same with previous governor Bev Perdue, who declined to run for a second term due to being a complete SCOAMF.
A more in depth article is even funnier, in which WRAL closed the comments after the first 4, which where all asking about tracking Democrat promises.
