Bill Maher: “Country Is Becoming A Police State”

Maher is typically a nasty, nasty, person. A serial misogynist (particularly to Conservative women). A typical unhinged liberal/progressive. Yet, even he seems to get that the government is out of control

(The Blaze) Bill Maher on Friday decried the massive show of force seen on Boston-area streets during last week’s manhunt for the remaining marathon bombing suspect, declaring that the U.S. is turning into a “police state.”

Speaking on his HBO show “Real Time,” Maher flashed images of police officers riding down the street in assault vehicles during the search.

“This country is becoming a police state and it is very troubling to me,” Maher said, later adding, “The British police don’t even carry guns, let alone have tanks.”

Well, gee, Bill, this is rather what your side of the political aisle is pushing for, sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. What do you think the end result of progressiveism is, Bill? Fascism.

I do disagree with Bill on reading the bomber his Miranda warning. I know people have been talking about this “public safety exemption.” I’m having a tough time finding that in the Constitution/Bill of Rights.

Scientific American Compares CO2 At 400ppm To September 11th

Why yes, yes these people are bat guano insane and, since they are pretty much bereft of science, they have to trot out all sorts of scary fables (via Tom Nelson)

As CO2 Concentrations Near Ominous Benchmark, Daily Updates Begin

Scientist Ralph Keeling wants this generation to remember when atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide reached 400 parts per million, because of humans

Meanwhile, this is the second coldest start to spring since 1900. The Antarctic ice extent is one of the largest ever (in recorded history, mind you). Global sea rise is predicted to be well below average by 2100. Europe is seeing a temperature plunge. And global temps have flatlined despite rising CO2 levels.

Most people can mark their time on Earth by significant world events: the landing of a man on the moon, say; the dismantling of the Berlin Wall; or, more negatively, the 9/11 attacks.

Another significant event is impending. Scientist Ralph Keeling wants this generation to remember when atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide reached 400 parts per million, because of humans.

“I hope that many people out there in the decades to come will say, ‘Gosh, I will remember when it crossed 400,'” he said.

And there you go: CO2 crossing to 400ppm is to be remember the same as September 11. These people do not deserve a facepalm GIf. Nor a cute graphic with clowns. A cartoon with Al Gore jumping a shark. No, these people need to be put into mental homes, or, at best, ridiculed or run out of town on a rail while their ideas are thrown in the trash and their hard-drives introduced to powerful magnets. Yet, this is the kind of thinking we get from Warmists, who probably fully agreed with the insanity, because most of them are bat guano insane, as well.

12 Programs From Obama’s Sequestration Congress Refuses To Fix

Democrats are already running around stating that Democrats, mostly (NMP) Obama, have lost on sequestration. Therefore, they’re going to have to come up with more scary stories in order to continue spending willy nilly on pretty much everything at the federal level, which is a great way to continue increases the tangle of tentacles into citizen’s lives and their reliance on Government

(Think Progress)…Unfortunately, though, Congress has shown no willingness to provide similar relief for the families that are being hammered by sequestration in other ways. Here are 12 programs that have experienced devastating cuts because Congress insists on cutting spending when it doesn’t need to — and that have been ignored by the same lawmakers who leaped to action as soon as their trips home were going to take a little longer: (note: head over to TP to see the numbers for costs of these programs)

  • Long-term unemployment (perhaps if we had a president and Democrat led senate that was interested in real world legislation that would help to get people working again, there would be no need)
  • Head Start (a 5% reduction. One would think they could learn to do more with less. Oh, sorry, government)
  • Cancer treatment (go talk to Obama, this is his idea and his implementation)
  • Health research (we’re all going to die or something)
  • Low-income housing (I can see how TP would be upset, since these are Dem voters reliant on Government)
  • Student aid (perhaps kids should get jobs to pay for their education instead of having the government pay for it…sorry, forgot this is the terrible Obama economy)
  • Meals On Wheels (so far this is only a threat, it has not occurred)
  • Disaster relief (FEMA could lose $1 billion out of over $14 billion in yearly funding, which is often wasted and used for really every big weather event to show how great government is, rather than allowing insurance to deal with it)
  • Heating assistance (well, if Obama wasn’t making energy so expensive, wouldn’t be a problems)
  • Workplace safety (Dems are very upset that federal inspectors from OSHA won’t be bugging businesses as much)
  • Obamacare (bummer!!!!!!!!)
  • Child care (why are my tax dollars paying for someone else’s kids?)

Let’s consider: a great many of these programs should be paid for by the states. There’s no reason for the federal government to be paying for them. A lot of these reductions could be paid for by cutting waste, of which the federal government is extremely proliferate at performing. The entire thing, except Obamacare, could be paid for by cutting Obamacare. Perhaps we shouldn’t be sending hundreds of millions to Syria and Egypt. Obama could cut out all his taxpayer funded vacations and quick trips across the country for campaign events when he can’t run again. We could stop spending money on illegal aliens. Turtle tunnels. Stop overpaying government employees and providing outrageous pensions. How about not giving $1 billion in tax credits for energy efficient homes to people who do not own a home? Maybe cut “programs to promote video games, chocolate, and to revamp a scuba-diver’s web site.” Or the “$30 million to help Pakistani Mango farmers.” “$10 million for Pakistani Sesame Street.” That kind of list goes on and on and on.

But Obama wanted implementation of Sequestration to intentionally be as painful as possible for the American people. It’s who he is. It’s what he does.  And it was all his idea.

Are You Ready To Pay A Flu Vaccine Tax?

Yes, and it’s “bipartisan” (via The Lonely Conservative)

(The Weekly Standard) Congress is preparing to take action on a bipartisan proposal to raise taxes on flu vaccines. This is not a tax on the wealthy, but rather on a broad swath of Americans, or at least those who choose to be immunized against the flu.

In February, identical bills were introduced in the House and Senate to add seasonal flu vaccines to the IRS code as taxable. The legislation would exact a 75¢ per dose tax on any “vaccine against seasonal influenza.” Given that the Centers for Disease Control projects that 135 million doses of flu vaccine will be used this year, the government’s take on flu vaccines alone is over $100,000,000 per year.

Along with taxes on other vaccines, this tax would fund the Vaccine Injury Compensation Trust Fund.  The fund is a “no-fault alternative to the traditional tort system for resolving vaccine injury claims that provides compensation to people found to be injured by certain vaccines.”  However, the fund is by no means in the same kind of trouble that other government “trust funds” are.

The Senate has reached an agreement on the legislation, and looks like there will be votes shortly. Here’s a chance for Obama to keep his promise on not raising taxes on Americans making less than $200k a year.

Of course, liberals will say “hey, it’s only 75 cents”. Add this to the tons of other “it’s just…” taxes and cost of living increases. Oh, and

As is the case with all government “trust funds,” there is no cash set aside to pay out claims. According to the November 2012 report on the vaccine trust, the $3.5 billion balance is invested in “US Treasury Securities.” In other words, financing a portion of the $16.5 trillion national debt.

Just another way to nickle and dime the citizens to pay for the prolificant spending of the US government.

Sierra Club Comes Out In Favor Of Amnesty For “Environmental Reasons”

It’s funny how so many “climate change” believers tend to espouse the same political views as hard core leftists, isn’t it?

(Grist) It was notable when Bill McKibben of 350.org and Philip Radford of Greenpeace recently came out in support of immigration-reform legislation.

But it’s really notable that the Sierra Club has now joined them. Over the past decade and a half, the club has had vicious leadership battles over immigration and population. But now the board of directors, which is elected by the group’s 1.4 million members, is unanimously agreed.

Why? Here’s their official position

Currently at least 11 million people live in the U.S. in the shadows of our society. Many of them work in jobs that expose them to dangerous conditions, chemicals and pesticides, and many more of them live in areas with disproportionate levels of toxic air, water, and soil pollution. To protect clean air and water and prevent the disruption of our climate, we must ensure that those who are most disenfranchised and most threatened by pollution within our borders have the voice to fight polluters and advocate for climate solutions without fear.

Which is weird, because so many environmental groups have failed to fight for environmental conditions in low income areas. But, anyway, apparently we need to provide a “pathway to voting Democrat citizenship” to stop hotcoldwetdry.

Noted 1%er Complains About Policy Benefiting 1%

Nope, not Obama this time. It’s Paul Krugman, who never met a Big Government spending scheme he didn’t like. He starts out by whining about “austerity” and saying it has failed, because we’ve had just so darned much! You know, with the ever increasing government expenditures, the massive Stimulus, son of Stimulus, 2nd cousin twice removed of Stimulus….I’d love to know just where this austerity is. The federal government is borrowing roughly 43 cents for every dollar it spends. Anyway, here’s a guy with a net worth of over $2.5 million dollars who gets paid more than enough to fit into Obama’s version of rich

(Fish Wrap) And this makes one wonder how much difference the intellectual collapse of the austerian position will actually make. To the extent that we have policy of the 1 percent, by the 1 percent, for the 1 percent, won’t we just see new justifications for the same old policies?

Strange. The Democrats have held the Senate since 2007. They held the House from 2007-2011. Yet, so many of the big money spent benefited….the rich. Who does Obama hang out with and invite to the White House for parties? 1%ers. Obama is a 1%er. Democrat policies have made it harder and harder for small businesses to succeed and thrive. Heck, to even start. Dem policies put businesses down leading to the non-1% being laid off. Dem policy has left record numbers of Americans dropping out of the jobs market in despair.

Oh, and has Paul sent a check to the IRS yet? I bet he’d be pretty darned unhappy if Congress changed the tax rate he pays to a point where he pays lots more.

OFA Launches Campaign To Attack Climate Realists In Congress

The totally independent from Obama (snicker) group Organizing For Action continues the Neverending Campaign

(UK Guardian) The campaign group formed to support Barack Obama’s political agenda has launched an initiative to shame members of Congress who deny the science behind climate change.

In an email to supporters on Thursday, Organizing for Action said it was time to call out members of Congress who deny the existence of climate change, saying they had blocked efforts to avoid its most catastrophic consequences.

The email linked to a video mocking Republicans who reject the science on climate change. “Right now, way too many lawmakers in Washington flat-out refuse to face the facts when it comes to climate change,” Jon Carson, executive director of Organizing for Action wrote in the email. “We’re never going to make real progress on this issue unless members of Congress get serious.”

I’ll write it again: if you are referring to it as “climate change” you aren’t interested in science, but, rather, in politics and social issues. It’s an imprecise and non-scientific term designed to allow the adherents to blame virtually everything on Mankind in any way they want, and to also blame cooling, snow, cold winters and plateau periods on man induced warming.

Surprisingly, the video fails to attack Obama for being a massive climahypocrite, what with all his fossil fueled flights around the country (especially for vacations), for his fossil fueled vehicles, for keeping the White House well about what Warmists think is the proper heating temperature, prolificate waste of food, not buying local, and so on.

Lord Christopher Monckton defends the GOP folks in the video as truthsayers. Marc Morano provides lots of rebuttals to OFA, and makes absolutely no distinction between the supposedly independent OFA and Obama himself. Because there is none except on paper. Twitchy offers up some derisive Tweets back to OFA. And OFA forgot to bring facts

GOP Challenges DHS On Ammo Purchases

I haven’t really touched on the massive ammo purchases made by the Department Of groping people letting criminal illegal aliens go deeming Conservatives terrorists Homeland Security over the past 2 years or more. So much of what was out there seemed to be more in the way of conspiracy theories. I’m not particularly concerned with some sort of crackdown by DHS on citizens. But, Congress does have a few concerns….well, Republicans do. Liberals, not so much, because a Dem is in the White House

(Fox News) Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials on their “massive” bullet buys.

“It is entirely … inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition,” Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing.

..Republicans said the purchases raise “serious” questions about waste and accountability.

Chaffetz, who chairs one of the House oversight subcommittees holding the hearing Thursday, revealed that the department currently has more than 260 million rounds in stock. He said the department bought more than 103 million rounds in 2012 and used 116 million that same year — among roughly 70,000 agents.

Comparing that with the small-arms purchases procured by the U.S. Army, he said the DHS is churning through between 1,300 and 1,600 rounds per officer, while the U.S. Army goes through roughly 350 rounds per soldier.

A DHS spokesman said that DHS was not trying to purchase 1.5 billion rounds over 5 years, just 750 million. And that they weren’t trying to stockpile. Republicans complain about the sheer waste.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who chairs the full Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he suspects rounds are being stockpiled, and then either “disposed of,” passed to non-federal agencies, or shot “indiscriminately.”

I suspect that DHS is doing this for two reasons: 1st, because they can, and like any government agency, they like wasting money that’s not theirs because they can. Second, I suspect that they are trying to purchase lots of ammo in order to do what they can to dry the private market up and increase consumer costs. Let’s not forget that when Obama assumed the Presidency the military started destroying used cartridges instead of selling them back to the market, and are still doing it. Brass is the most expensive part, and this is a huge waste of taxpayer dollars.

(The Blaze) Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill Friday that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports.

The bill, titled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or “AMMO” Act, is being proposed after several lawmakers have voiced concerns about some federal agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security, seemingly stockpiling large quantities of ammo.

Expect a lively discussion in the House, with Democrats trotting out looney tune speeches. The norm.

Good Grief: Al Franken Uses Cheetos Metaphor To Push “Climate Change”

Hey, has anyone asked Al how he gets to D.C. from Minnesota and back? (via Tom Nelson)

(HuffPo) Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) attacked climate deniers with a Cheetos metaphor on the Senate floor on Monday, saying those who take money from big coal and also reject global warming should be ignored.

“If 98 out of 100 doctors tell me I’ve got a problem, I should take their advice,” he said. “And if those two other doctors get paid by Big Snack Food, like certain climate deniers get paid by Big Coal, I shouldn’t take their advice.”

Well, what of those who push hotcoldwetdry? Should we ignore those who fail to practice what they preach? Particularly since there are way, way, way more of those than Climate Realists who take money from Big Coal (or any other group).
