What Say To Having Your AC And Fridge Remotely Shut Down During Peak Time Energy?

This is the logical extension of “smart grid” policies

(UK Daily Mail) Fridges and freezers in millions of British homes will automatically be switched off without the owner’s consent under a ‘Big Brother’ regime to reduce the strain on power stations.

The National Grid is demanding that all new appliances be fitted with sensors that could shut them down when the UK’s generators struggle to meet demand for electricity.

Electric ovens, air-conditioning units and washing machines will also be affected by the proposals, which are already backed by one of the European Union’s most influential energy bodies. They are pushing for the move as green energy sources such as wind farms are less predictable than traditional power stations, increasing the risk of blackouts.

This would increase costs for consumers and leave them at the mercy of the power company, which would decide whether to shut down your home appliances, possibly leaving you with sweltering inside temps, spoiling food, and no way to wash your clothes.

BTW, all those appliances are Bad for ‘Climate Change’. What, you didn’t think there would be some sort of globull warming aspect to this story? Sure, they refer to it as “Big Brother”, but The National Grid is a privately owned company. Big Brother is supposed to be Government. Ah, here we go

The National Grid – a private company that made £2.6 billion profit in 2011 – is required by law to balance supply and demand in the network.

However the EU has set a target that 20 per cent of all electricity will be generated from green sources by 2012 – but these are unreliable, making the task more difficult.

The solution proposed by the National Grid, along with its counterparts in 34 European countries, is to install the controversial devices.

You have all sorts of people, including civil liberties groups, complaining about this plan, but, interestingly, this is simply a direct result of the Leftist policies regarding hotcoldwetdry, otherwise known as ‘climate change’. They’ve been pushing this “smart grid” issue for years now, and the next step is another entity control over your appliances and energy usage. California Democrats attempted this a few years ago when they tried to pass legislation giving power companies control of citizens thermostats. Nancy Pelosi herself, back when she was still Speaker, advocated for this exact thing, regarding energy usage and our homes environmental footprint.

But, as we see, Warmists are fine when ‘climate change’ solutions affect Other People, but not themselves.

BTW, The National Grid is saying that, at most, consumers will see their appliances turned off for a few seconds, and will barely be affected. I think they miss the point that they still would control the appliances. To save Gaia from getting a fever or something.

Did Administration Threaten Benghazi Whistleblowers?

(Fox News) At least four career officials at the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency have retained lawyers or are in the process of doing so, as they prepare to provide sensitive information about the Benghazi attacks to Congress, Fox News has learned.

Victoria Toensing, a former Justice Department official and Republican counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee, is now representing one of the State Department employees. She told Fox News her client and some of the others, who consider themselves whistle-blowers, have been threatened by unnamed Obama administration officials.

“I’m not talking generally, I’m talking specifically about Benghazi – that people have been threatened,” Toensing said in an interview Monday. “And not just the State Department. People have been threatened at the CIA.”

Ms. Toensing has refused to identify her client, but has stated that the person has knowledge on what happened in the months before the 9/11 attack, during the attack, and after the attack. She has further stated that the threats are about the ending of careers if people testify, a clear violation of federal law.

It’s been over 7 months, and we still do not fully know what happened, particularly before and during the attack. The O administration has been stonewalling and stalling, refusing to provide the full information. Of course, let’s admit that Republicans made a huge mistake in focusing on the talking points surrounding the video that supposedly started the attack.

And you have a special forces operator stating that forces could have gotten to Benghazi by at least the 2nd attack, and that the special forces community feels betrayed.

It should be very interesting when these folks sit down and testify in front of Congress. Of course, liberals have already wrote the deaths of Americans, including our ambassador, as a “big nothing burger.” These are the same people who whined about the August 6th PDB and the “Downing Street Memo” for over half a decade (some still are), yet want no details of Benghazi.

Good Grief: ‘Climate Change’ Could Lead Women To Transactional Sex

Let the scaremongering and hysteria commence!

(The Hill) Several House Democrats are calling on Congress to recognize that climate change is hurting women more than men, and could even drive poor women to “transactional sex” for survival.

The resolution, from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and a dozen other Democrats, says the results of climate change include drought and reduced agricultural output. It says these changes can be particularly harmful for women.

“[F]ood insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health,” it says.

Well, then it’s good that the warming has pretty much been negligible, statistically insignificant, if you will, since 1990, with a miniscule .28F increase, and a lilliputian .14F increase since 1997.

Finally, it encourages the president to “integrate a gender approach in all policies and programs” related to climate change, and to ensure these policies “support women globally to prepare for, build resilience for, and adapt to climate change.”

So, the purpose here is to introduce serious gender politics into the already highly politicized and un-scientific debate, whereby Democrats can simply call those who say anthropogenic global warming/man-induced climate change is a bunch of mule fritters all sorts of dirty names, denigrate them, and demonize them, and continue to perpetuate the so-called GOP war on women. On fake issue linked to another fake issue.

Why climate change is causing upset stomachs in Europe

Much has been said about the effect of climate change, but little is known about its impact of water-related health issues. Scientists are now suggesting that greater quantities of rainfall and bigger storms could be responsible for more unsettled stomachs in parts of Europe.

“Suggesting”. In other words, they are simply attributing upset tummies to “climate change”. I usually attribute it to “really shouldn’t have had all those hot wings and beer”. My theory tends to have more real world data and real causation.

Boston Bombing: Boxing Coach Says Don’t Blame Boxing

One of the media narratives has been that, somehow, Tamerlan Tsarnaev went from well adjusted citizen to psychotic bomber motivated by, well, the media aren’t quite sure, could have something to do with some obscure religion, but, probably not, due to the failures of his boxing career. His coach says “nope!”

(Fox News) The Boston Marathon bomber’s former boxing coach says his one-time pupil may have been dispirited by boxing setbacks, but that’s no reason for the attacks that killed three people and injured more than 200.

The coach is clear: Don’t blame Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s metamorphosis from a seemingly well-adjusted American immigrant – with dreams of one day representing the U.S. in the Olympics – into a radicalized killer on amateur boxing.

“That’s ridiculous,” Bob Russo, 58, of Portland, Maine, tells FoxNews.com. “You can’t tie the sport of amateur boxing — that has helped so many immigrants and unfortunate people — to his transition to radical Islam.

The NY Times was the biggest cheerleader attempting to say that because of two incidents in Tamerlan’s boxing career (a controversial loss and a rule change leaving him unable to compete in the Golden Gloves since he wasn’t a citizen) he went from being said well adjusted person to a crazed “lone wolf” homicidal bomber, and it was pretty much America’s fault for failing to integrate Tamerlan. And the Liberal Media most definately would prefer to Blame America rather than a small section of Islam that has become radicalized and murderous. Heck, here’s CNN’s Candy Crowley

CNN’s Candy Crowley on Sunday started to say that deceased Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev had posted “Islamic videos” online before apologizing and calling them “terrorist videos.”

“We know that both the CIA and the FBI were told by Russia, their counterparts, ‘You got to look at this guy, we think he’s been radicalized. We think he’s a terrorist,’” the “State of the Union” host told panelists. “Then we have the fact that up came these, at some point after a trip to Russia and before it, up came Islamic videos — or, I’m sorry, terrorist videos on his website. … At least one department, Homeland Security I believe, knew he’d either come or gone to Russia. And he’s putting up, you know, in praise of terrorism. Why in the world didn’t anybody think, oh, wait, this is a danger sign?

They were Islamic videos. Had the bombing been performed by people extolling Christianity, does anyone think that the media wouldn’t be blaming the whole?

Washington Post Wonders If Charm Is Obama’s Last, Best Hope

This occurs at the intersection of journalism and wishful thinking from those who most likely voted for Obama

After string of setbacks, more charm may be the last, best option for Obama

Writers Juliet Eilperin and Zachary A. Goldfarb picked the perfect picture to explain Obama and his charm, wouldn’t you think?

There was little time to mingle Tuesday night at the White House. Five minutes after greeting them, President Obama ushered 20 female senators into the State Dining Room and invited each to offer her thoughts on the issues of the day. And that was about it.

“That took up our entire two hours, to go around the table,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), recalled in an interview. “It was not the kind of warm banter that can go back and forth. People had their points they wanted to make to the president. It was all business.”

After more than four years in the White House and weeks into his latest effort to woo lawmakers, Obama still isn’t very good at using his personal charm to achieve political success. Yet, it may be one of the few strategies the president has left if he hopes to accomplish his remaining ­second-term priorities, including a sweeping budget deal and a comprehensive immigration bill.

Nope, sorry, “charm” is a dead end for Mr. Obama. I’m not such an Obama hater* that I think the man has no charm: I’m sure he does in small settings, and he has shown that he, like most people, can be charming. However, he spent years demonizing political opponents, often even before said opponents offered any opposition to Obama policies. One must remember that politics is a dirty, nasty business that involves attacks. Except, Obama likes to make things very, very personal and paints his opponents with a broad tar brush. He has no problem tarring private citizens, a violation of the spirit of the 1st Amendment.

Nor does he have that much charm, at least politically, with the elected officials of his own Party. He rarely reaches out for conversations with them about politics, much less just having a talk about family, friends, and personal stuff.

At this point in his presidency, Obama has pretty much tried it all. He has met privately with Republican leaders in the House, collaborated with bipartisan groups of senators and taken his case to the people, hoping that the power of public opinion could win over his opponents in Congress. This year, for the most part, none of those approaches have worked.

He started off his presidency with a bit of nastiness to the guy he defeated, John McCain, along with his “I won” bit. He spent 4 years Blaming Bush and everyone else. He continuously crosses the line between political attacks and personal attacks. It’s rather hard to work with someone who: 1. offers ideas and legislation that you do not agree with or in a way that goes well beyond ones personal beliefs, 2. blame them for all his own problems, and 3. attacks you mercilessly and personally before turning around and saying “how ya doing? I need you to pass this”.

The Washington Post even goes on to say charm is something he’s not very good at. He is great at it when he wants to, such as on the campaign trail. But, it’s too darned late. He has too much invested in highly partisan politics.

* I do not hate Obama personally, I oppose the majority of his political leanings. But, he does make it hard to like him even as a president, much less a person, when he is constantly denigrating and demonizing Republicans and Conservatives, which, by extension, is me.

Oh, and apparently there’s been lots of bigotry and “hate” at the DU regarding the Boston jihadis, so they need to flagellate themselves and knit diversity quilts.

Watcha Reading?

Let’s see: finished the 3rd book of the Day Soldiers trilogy. Excellent, excellent series, and I’m not usually that big on werewolves and vampires. I’d give the series a 4.5 out of 5.

Took on The Mighty Quinn. It was a so so read, but kept my attention all the way through. Gave Dawn Of Destiny (Epic) a try, just couldn’t hold my attention. Wasn’t bad, just wasn’t interesting for me at the time. The Blood Eagle In the Big Easy started out really fracking preachy and slow, gave that up quickly. Zombie Patrol became very silly with Men In Black crap. I’ve been reading Eye Candy, got about 35% in (it’s a long, long book. It’s not a perfect match, but The Mighty Quinn was 242 pages at 376kb. Eye Candy is 737kb), but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, just stuff happens. Like Seinfeld, there seems to be no plot. No purpose. Too bad, because it started very well.

I have a couple downloaded, both free and samples, that I’ll give a whirl. What’s on your menu?

A Warmists Wants You Skeptics To Consider The Facts

Climate change skeptics, consider these facts

From 1993 to 2006, the earth’s oceans rose more than 3.3 millimeters per year, more than 50 percent above projections. On the U.S East Coast, Atlantic Ocean rise is accelerating. The Arctic’s ice cap has shrunk to its smallest size in recorded history.

The World Bank recently said, “Climate change is a fundamental threat to global development.” In Peru’s Andes mountains, glacial ice that took 1,600 years to form has nearly melted away in the past 25 years, an Ohio State University team recently announced.

As we say here in the South, that’s some pretty damned weak tea. Heck, it’s unsweetened tea stretched too far. Nothing in those “facts” proves anthropogenic causation. Nor is ocean rise accelerating, and if it was caused by AGW wouldn’t we see a worldwide change? 3.3mm is still at the historical norm, and actually below the norm for a warm period. The rest goes like this

Britain’s Royal Society, a preeminent scientific organization founded by Isaac Newton, says if we do not change our energy policies, we face a “hellish future.”

NASA cites as “compelling” evidence for climate change: rising sea levels, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, declining sea ice, retreating glaciers, extreme weather events and ocean acidification.

Scaremongering, consensus, politics, and a failure to provide any scientifically factual data proving anthropogenic causation is the typical motif of a Warmist, especially one who ends by whining about fossil fuels usage. And then is beaten like a rented mule in the comments at the link.
