Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

Man With Giant Carbon Footprint Sees Stopping Climate Change As Part Of His Legacy

Let’s not forget, the man in question has a “carbon footprint” estimated at 41,000 metric tons, making him mostly to be the Man With Largest Carbon Footprint In The World. The average American’s footprint is a bit over 19 metric tons. Worldwide it is 2 tons. Heck, Obama is putting out way more than two tons just taking his 1%er vacation

(Washington Post) President Obama’s environmental policies are likely to play a prominent role in defining his second term, even as the budget, immigration and health care still dominate the current political debate.

When Gina McCarthy first met with Obama in the Oval Office on Jan. 10 to discuss the prospect of heading the Environmental Protection Agency, she recalled, “the first words out of his mouth was the need for EPA to focus on climate.”

“He sees this as a necessary part of his legacy,” she said in a recent interview.

First, “climate change” is not an environmental issue, it’s a political one. Second, 41,000 metric tons. Third, Obama’s legacy has already been written. Scandal after scandal after scandal. Running guns to Mexico, resulting in at least 200 deaths of Mexican citizens and 2 US federal border agents. Leaving 4 Americans to die in Benghazi. IRS targeting of Conservative groups. All followed by coverups. Expanding government spying on Americans domestically dramatically. And, really, they’ll probably say he presided over the worst economy since the start of the Great Depression. Under Carter, at least it was only during one term, and would best be described as “malaise”. Under Obama the term would be “despair”.

Cutting carbon emissions and preparing for the impacts of climate change are the biggest environmental policies the president is pursuing, but they are not the only ones. His deputies are laying the groundwork to manage public lands across broad regions, drawing on high-tech mapping to balance energy interests against conservation needs. They also are preparing to weigh in on a controversial mining proposal in Alaska.

In other words, they are supposedly going to go for “climate change” rules and regulations harder and with a serious far left edge, especially with Denis McDonough, who worked with the hyper-far left for Center For American Progress, as his chief of staff. They see this as a winning issue, all while Europe and other nations are moving away from these idiotic, economy killing policies.

Interestingly, there are things that make sense, like dealing with the nation’s power infrastructure, which is aging and inefficient. But, the minute it starts being put in context of “climate change” people will tune out. Team Obama also wants to slap solar panels up all over the deserts and public lands. What they want is everyone moving into cities, where existing ones become mega cities, and suburbs look more like NYC, in an attempt to get everyone in to one area, for multiple reasons, including reducing “carbon footprints”. This is part of Agenda 21 and the Obama admin plans. They call this “regionalism“.

Still, the center of the president’s climate plan lies with the EPA and its plan to finalize rules in the next two years to limit greenhouse-gas emissions from new and existing plants. In an interview, McCarthy said she and other administration officials still see coal plants as part of the nation’s energy mix “for the next 40 years” but said she was determined “to bend the curve on climate” by setting standards that will require utilities to build more efficient plants.

Unelected officials making law, which is constitutionally left in the hands of the Legislative Branch, because they feel this is the Right Thing To Do, regardless of how it will damage the economy and drive up the price of, well, everything. Obama has shown over his 4+ years that he has no clue as to How Economies Work, and these types of regulations would continue that trend.

The Nation: Hey, You Know Global Warming Causes Cold, Too?

Yeah, had to start off with one. Here’s The Nation’s Madeline Ostrander

Frigid and Sweltering: The New Climate Normal

Climate change often seems more palpable (and gets more media coverage) at this time of year, after heat waves have hit parts of the country. But polls suggest many members of the public are confused about the connection between climate change and cold weather. As I noted in a post last week, belief in climate change drops among Americans during cold weather and dipped slightly after this past winter. Moreover, climate deniers and right-wing pundits tend to hype winter weather, as if climate models never anticipated another flake of snow.

But a new report produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, published on Tuesday in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, shows that both cold and hot weather in 2012 were heavily under the influence of climate change.

Obviously, what she means is that both hot and cold were caused by the greenhouse gases from human activity. We should probably expect even more of this bat guano insane, and completely un-scientific, talking point.

But even though the planet as a whole is getting warmer, the report makes it clear that there are new trends of weird and extreme weather in all seasons. For example, Hurricane Sandy sent record early-season snow to central Appalachia.

In Europe, “an exceptional cold spell” fell over several countries last year. Berlin’s cold snap was chillier than the typical Moscow winter, according to the World Meterological Organization. Norway set new record cold temperatures for February (about minus-four degrees Fahrenheit in Hammerfest, for instance).

See? It cause everything!!!!!! All because Someone Else drove a fossil fueled vehicle to work.

The tome-sized NOAA report is a reminder that the global climate is extremely complex, and climate trends can’t be easily simplified. But the planet is getting warmer, even while ski seasons in the western United States shorten and Europe gets more deep freezes.

Yes, this weather is crazy. And yes, it is our fault.

ObamaCare To Target Charitable Hospitals

We had to pass the bill in order to find out what was in it, and to give HHS a chance to pass 20,000 pages and counting of regulations

(Daily Caller) Charitable hospitals that treat uninsured Americans will be subjected to new levels of scrutiny of their nonprofit status and could face sizable new fines under Obamacare.

A new provision in Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code, which takes effect under Obamacare, sets new standards of review and installs new financial penalties for tax-exempt charitable hospitals, which devote a minimum amount of their expenses to treat uninsured poor people. Approximately 60 percent of American hospitals are currently nonprofit. (snip)

“It requires tax-exempt hospitals to do a community needs survey and file additional paperwork with the IRS every three years. This is to prove that the charitable hospital is still needed in their geographical area — ‘needed’ as defined by Obamacare and overseen by IRS bureaucrats,” said John Kartch, spokesman for Americans for Tax Reform.

“Failure to comply, or to prove this continuing need, could result in the loss of the hospital’s tax-exempt status. The hospital would then become a for-profit venture, paying income tax — hence the positive revenue score” for the federal government, Kartch said. “Obamacare advocates turned over every rock to find as much tax money as possible.”

Does anyone think that the Obamacare government won’t find a reason to make sure that the tax-free status goes away? Liberals hate charity, unless it comes from the government.

Danish Paper Posits About A Possible Cooling Period

As I’ve noted many times, I’ll believe it when it happens. No matter which way you look, cool, warm, stagnant, it is all guess-work at this time. But, looking towards the Sun for guidance is a lot more scientific than thinking Someone Else’s usage of fossil fuels will cause the planet to boil. This comes via the No Tricks Zone, which has always done a great job featuring, and translating, foreign papers

Another major European media outlet is asking: Where’s the global warming? (WT note-the post features a picture of the 2 page story from the August 7 edition of Denmark’s Jyllands-Posten ) (snip)

JP starts by reminding readers that it was just over 100 years ago that the world had clawed itself out of the little ice age, which extended from 1400 – 1900, a time when the Thames river often froze over. All paths in determining the cause of the little ice age all seem to converge to a single factor: solar activity.

Oh, come on, the Sun was only relevant to climate before the combustion engine. It couldn’t possibly be the major driver of climate now. That’s silly. It’s probably your use of hairspray and your ice-maker in the fridge.

Suddenly even the greenest of media outlets among us are contemplating what the consequences of a quiet sun may be. The JP then quotes Irish solar specialist Ian Elliott, who says these consequences could be dramatic:

It indicates that we may be on the path to a new little ice age. It seems likely we are on the path to a period with very low solar activity, which could mean that we may have some very cold winters.”

Let’s not forget that Europe, Russia, the Middle East, much of the Southern Hemisphere, have all had very cold winters 4 out of the last 5 years. Much of these same areas barely had a spring, and are suffering more spring like conditions during the summer months. On this side of the world, Alaska had cooled 2.4F over the past 10 years, but is having a warm summer. Yet, around 70% of the lower 48 are seeing cooler than average temperatures.

Here’s Danish astrophysicist Henrik Svensmark

Since the 1940s and up to 10 years ago we have had the highest solar activity in 1000 years. The last time we had solar activity that high was when we had the Medieval Warm Period from year 1000 to around 1300. … Historically there has been a close connection between solar activity and temperature for the last 1000 years. Therefore the sun’s activity will also have influence the coming many years. … The unusual thing right now is that sun’s activity is decreasing while there’s a great increase in atmospheric CO2. For that reason the question is how much the earth will cool in a time of decreasing solar activity. … The development is beautifully consistent with a cooling effect of the solar activity in the same period. This could mean that the temperature will not rise for the next 30 years or maybe begin to decrease.”

The paper also takes on the Warmists “heat is hiding in the deep oceans” meme/fantasy

How should ocean water under 700 meters be warmed up without a warming in the upper part? … In the period 1990-2000 you could see a rise in the ocean temperatures, which fit with the greenhouse effect. But it hasn’t been seen for the last 10 years. Temperatures don’t rise without the heat content in the sea increasing. Several thousand buoys put into the sea to measure temperature haven’t registered any rise in sea temperatures.”

Obviously, Warmists will attack the paper for daring to ask questions and provide information. Dissent is not allowed in Progressive World. One must toe the line. Of course, in Warmist World, practicing what one preaches is not necessary.

Obama: “GOP Wants To Deny Health Insurance To 30 Million”

Alas, I did not hear or watch Obama’s press conference, because I was doing something American’s in growing numbers aren’t, thanks to Obama’s policies, including ObamaCare: working a full time job

(Daily Caller) President Barack Obama took his budget-crisis rhetoric out for a drive Friday, rolling right over the much-publicized call by three GOP Senators to stop Obamacare by shutting down the federal government in October.

“My friends in the other party have made preventing [30 million] people from getting heath care their Holy Grail,” Obama told friendly reporters at an afternoon press conference in the White House.

“The one unifying principle the Republican Party has is making sure that 30 million people don’t have health-care,” he said, portraying the three GOP Senators as representative of the GOP.

The one unifying principal for Obama is to make sure that people who have jobs are limited to less than 30 hours a week, thanks to Obamacare. Well, for those who actually have a job, and haven’t dropped out of the jobs market in despair. All to provide substandard health care in which an unelected board decides which health care options are worthwhile, instead of the decision being made by doctors and patients. Oh, also the principal that Obama prefers conflict and strife.

Threatening to shut down government “is hard to understand as an agenda that is going to strengthen our middle class… [and] there’s not even a pretext now they’re going to replace it with something better,” Obama said.

Republican Sens. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and and Marco Rubio are calling on the GOP to stop funding the federal government after September unless Obama agrees to shut down his signature accomplishment, Obamacare.

The middle class has suffered more under Obama than under any president since FDR, and there is no relief in sight, and the GOP has made its intentions on replace many times. It’s been online for years. I guess it’s too difficult for Obama to do a web-search.

As for all the GOP, if only. Most Republican Senators are against any sort of plan to shut down the government to stop Obamacare, which is still heavily unpopular with the American people. At the heart of it, even good Republicans like Tom Coburn are still in the “we need to be nice” mode. They fail to realize that you fight fire with fire.

Elysium Is Really Somewhat Conservative

Many have been chiming in about what a far left socialist/communist propaganda film Elysium is. Consider

(Examiner) Is Hollywood promoting socialism with its new sci-fi movie “Elysium?” That’s the charge being made by some, according to a report published Wednesday at Fox News.

An article at Newsmax, for example, calls it “Matt Damon’s sci-fi socialism,” and describes it further as a “heavy-handed political propaganda flick.”

According to Fox, Variety described it as one of the “more openly socialist political agendas of any Hollywood movie in memory, beating the drum loudly not just for universal healthcare, but for open borders, unconditional amnesty and the abolition of class distinctions as well.” (WT-there are lots of links in the excerpt at Examiner. Writing this on Droid)

Damon and director Neill Blomkamp are saying “no, no, there’s no message!” Which is a bunch of mule fritters (BTW, I love District 9. Good scifi wrapped around a subtle message, in this case apartheid, which scifi often does).

But, let’s consider that this is actually kind of conservative. Glenn Beck was talking about this movie earlier in the day, thinking it was more like Communism (big shots with lots and an underclass in destitude). But, really, what’s left of the earth is basically Detroit once they realize that all those promises can’t be kept.

Squalor, crime, murder, rape, starvation, society having fallen apart. This is Detroit on a planetary scale, while the big shot Liberals live the highlife and avoid the results of their policies. When all the promises fail, this is the end result of Liberal World.

Matt Damon’s character? A conservative. A guy who sees problems and sets out to do something about it through action, not bloviation and spreading awareness and speeches.

I always find it interesting to see the way left side Hollywood treats the poor in movies. They’re always dirty, shabby, starving, stupid, and unable to take care of themselves without crime. Without Government these people are a mess.

Seriously, liberals apparently can’t even bathe themselves without Government. But, notice who the people who do well are: conservatives. They’re out there planting food gardens, fishing, helping others, working together, surviving. Hell, bathing. Wearing decent clothes. They aren’t trying to catch rats to eat. They aren’t depending on Someone Else to take care of them.

Movies like Elysium show the end result of liberal policies designed to help the poor and middle class. Not a pretty picture.

Movies like Elysium also show a profound lack of respect for anyone other than The Rich. It’s no wonder a hero comes along, in this case Matt Damon, to do something, because he or she are tired of all the whining and stench from unwashed liberals.
