It’s One Blow After Another To ObamaCare

Politico finally notices that Obamacare is a train wreck. Of course, said train wreck is based on a throwaway line the Obama campaign came up with on the spur of the moment because Obama knew nothing about healthcare prior to attending a campaign event. This follows on the heals of the Washington Post noticing that the Exchanges aren’t ready for 3am TV, much less prime-time. And the NY Times notices that Obamacare is going to mean fewer healthcare choices and crummier care. Fortunately, The Politico Knows Who To Blame

Obamacare: One blow after another

The Obamacare that consumers will finally be able to sign up for next week is a long way from the health plan President Barack Obama first pitched to the nation.

Millions of low-income Americans won’t receive coverage. Many workers at small businesses won’t get a choice of insurance plans right away. Large employers won’t need to provide insurance for another year. Far more states than expected won’t run their own insurance marketplaces. And a growing number of workers won’t get to keep their employer-provided coverage.

Every branch of the federal government played a role in weakening the law over the past three years, the casualty of a divisive legislative fight, a surprise Supreme Court ruling, a complex implementation and an unrelenting political opposition. The result has been a stark gap between the promise of Obamacare and the reality — one that has fueled a deep vein of skepticism about the law as it enters its most critical phase.

So, the cheerleaders at the Politico won’t blame the law itself? The one that’s going to leave 500K kids without coverage? The one that is already causing doctor rationing in California? The one where premiums are skyrocketing? The one causing company after company after company to drop coverage and/or reduce employee hours? The one in which Congress is exempted from?

But only 16 states and the District of Columbia decided to take the lead. Six others are partnering with the federal government. The federal government will run insurance exchanges by itself in the other 28 states.

And the federal government isn’t ready to run the exchanges for the start on October 1st. Insurers are dropping out of the exchanges in droves. Obamacare is one of the main reasons the economy has stagnated. And, since the employer mandate has illegally been extended to 2015, after the 2014 mid-terms, many of the employer based issues will not hit till late in 2014.

Students Suspended, Face Expulsion Over Air-Soft Gun Usage On Private Property

Yet it’s extraordinarily difficult to terminate tenured teachers who commit crimes. Where’s the Schoolkids Union when you need them?

(WAVY) A suspended seventh grade Virginia Beach student will find out soon if he is expelled for the rest of the year for shooting an airsoft gun.

Like thousands of others in Hampton Roads, Khalid Caraballo plays with airsoft guns. Caraballo and his friend Aidan were suspended because they shot two other friends who were with them while playing with the guns as they waited for the school bus.

The two seventh graders say they never went to the bus stop; they fired the airsoft guns while on Caraballo’s private property.

Aidan’s father, Tim Clark, told WAVY.com what happened next lacks commons sense. The children were suspended for possession, handling and use of a firearm.

Khalid’s mother, Solangel Caraballo, thinks it is ridiculous the Virginia Beach City Public School System suspended her 13-year-old son and Aidan because they were firing a spring-driven airsoft gun on the Caraballo’s posted private property. “My son is my private property. He does not become the school’s property until he goes to the bus stop, gets on the bus, and goes to school.”

The law in Virginia Beach is somewhat contradictory regarding whether or not it is illegal to fire an air-soft type gun, but, regardless, the police aren’t bothering with the matter. The school, though, has suspended the boys and they faced an expulsion hearing Monday. At what point did common sense die in this country in favor of hysterical morons?

Bummer: World Headed For A Heart Attack Cause “Climate Change”

Remember, this is what is considered rational and civil adult conversation amongst Warmists (via Tom Nelson)

World is heading for a heart attack, says climate expert

Political leaders who reject urgent action to cut emissions should be punished at the ballot box because the world is heading for a “heart attack” caused by rising temperatures, according to one of the UN’s top climate officials.

Halldor Thorgeirsson was speaking before today’s opening of a meeting of scientists and government officials from around the world to negotiate the final wording of a major report on climate change…

Oh, and it’s also like having cancer

“…If we look back at the temperature record over the past 100 years or so we see times when the earth’s surface was warming rapidly and times when it was slower, so in that sense it is no surprise,” Professor Rintoul says.

Professor Sherwood likens decadal changes in warming rates to a cancer sufferer. While they may feel a little better one week compared with the next, it does not mean they are rid of the disease.

But Professor Sherwood strongly rejects suggestions that the changes are an admission of past error. He returns to his cancer patient analogy: If the prognosis is the patient is going to die, but there is some uncertainty on exactly when, you do not just throw out the initial prognosis of death.

Of, course, the doctor and and the others involved would practice science, not make crap up. If the doctor was telling you to take a holistic approach, you’d probably tell him/her to go **** themselves, and search out a doctor who practices medicine, not new-world mumbo jumbo.

Rand Paul Wants John Roberts, All Federal Workers Enrolled In Obamacare

Let them live under the rules they seem to like so much

(Daily Caller) Arguing federal workers should not get special treatment, Rand Paul says he does not want taxpayers subsidizing the personal health care plans of any federal employee — including Chief Justice John Roberts — anymore.

With some in Congress arguing lawmakers and their staff should not get subsidies to cover their health insurance as President Obama’s health care law goes into effect, the Republican senator from Kentucky told The Daily Caller on Sunday that he’s going to start pushing a constitutional amendment that goes even further.

Paul’s proposal — outlawing any special exemptions for government employees — would mean all federal workers would have to purchase health insurance on the new Obamacare exchanges instead of getting taxpayer-funded subsidies. Some critics say those subsidies amount to special treatment. The Obamacare health insurance exchange opens Oct 1.

He should go further with it and make sure that all White House workers, including the President, have to live under the same rules. This is both a good and bad idea. First, politically, it would force Democrats who love Obamacare to take a stand, either for or against living under the same rules established for the rest of the country. You can bet that Harry Reid will table the proposed Constitutional amendment, never allowing it to come up for a vote, which is damning in itself.

On the bad side, having all federal workers on Obamacare actually is part of the endgame, which is single payer. The more people on the government controlled exchanges the better.

I don’t understand why Paul would push this as a constitutional amendment, instead of a change in law. Sure, it would be a route with which Obama has no power to veto. There’s no way he gets a 2/3rds vote in the Senate, and could be tough in the GOP controlled House. Is it possible to get 2/3rds of the State legislatures to call for a Constitutional Convention? Twenty seven legislatures are controlled by Republicans. 17 Democrat. 5 split. 1 non-affiliated (Nebraska). He needs 33.

However, this is about optics. Sure, he would love this to pass. But this puts the notion that federal employees, including Congress, the POTUS, members of the Supreme Court, et all are exempt from Obamacare, a law that is still highly unpopular.

Warmists Desperately Want Active End To Hurricane Season

Barring that, they’ll simply make up excuses for why landfalling hurricane activity has fallen like a stone since the start of the 2006 season

(NOLA) The 2013 Atlantic hurricane season was kicked off with dire warnings from the National Hurricane Center and Colorado State University climatologists Philip Klotzbach and William Gray that there would be an above average number of hurricanes and severe hurricanes.

With the season just over the Sept. 10 halfway point – often viewed as the most active period – the number of cyclones that have grown big enough to earn names is on track to meet the named-storm predictions. But the number of hurricanes and the number of intense hurricane activity days have lagged well behind, according to forecasters with National Hurricane Center.

So far, there have only been nine named storms, only 2 of which made it to minor hurricane status. The prediction was for 13-19 named storms, with 6-9 being hurricanes, 3-5 being major. Since 2008 there has only been one U.S. landfalling hurricane, and it can be argued that Issac was just below hurricane status at landfall. The last major hurricane was Wilma in 2005. Where nine days away from it being 3000 days since Wilma.

But Feltgen warned against thinking that this year’s Atlantic hurricane season is over.

“Think of the season as having just passed halftime,” he said. “A lot can happen in the second half, and be very different than the first half.”

Warmists really, really, really want to see some hurricanes in order to continue to push their cult, namely that hurricanes are now caused by you driving your fossil fueled vehicle. Let’s not forget that they were predicting that 2005 would be the “new normal”.

So what’s blocking the formation of hurricanes this year?

Feltgen said center forecasters blame an unusual weather pattern where dry, stable air, sometimes accompanied by dust from the Sahara region of Africa, has been sinking in the central and eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean.

You can bet that Warmists are huddled together with cases of Red Bull attempting to come up with some way to blame this lack of activity to human induced “climate change”.

Surprise: Obama Used Navy Yard Shooting Memorial For Partisan Anti-Gun Speech

If you were betting that for once (NMP) Obama would keep it on topic and avoid sermonizing politically, sorry, the man can’t help continuing the Neverending Campaign at every turn

(Politico) The best way to memorialize the 12 killed at the Navy Yard massacre, President Barack Obama said Sunday, is by enacting the new gun control laws he seeks.

(picture reminding people Obama played golf again on Saturday)

Speaking at a memorial service at the Marine Barracks in Southeast D.C., Obama said Monday’s shootings, along with the other gun massacres during his presidency, “ought to lead to some sort of transformation” like those that have taken place in other nations that have restricted access to guns in the wake of mass shootings.

“Our tears are not enough. Our words and our prayers are not enough,” Obama said. “If we really want to honor these 12 men and women, if we really want to be a country where we can go to work, go to school and walk our streets free from senseless violence without so many lives being stolen with a bullet from a gun, then we’re going to have to change.”

And then he explained how these anti-gun policies have worked wonders on the streets of Chicago, where children are free to walk to school in specially designated “safe passage” zones, can play in parks, don’t have to worry about gangs, and there are no shootings at all!

“It ought to be a shock to all of us as a nation and as a people,” Obama said. “It ought to obsess us, it ought to lead to some sort of transformation — that’s what happened in other countries when they experienced similar tragedies.”

What he’s referring to are countries like Australia and Britain, which banned most private gun ownership. Obama would love to do that here.

(Daily Caller) “What’s different in America is it’s easy to get your hands on gun — and a lot of us know this. …The politics are difficult,” he lamented.

“I cannot accept that,” said Obama, whose inauguration oath required him to swear that he would uphold the Constitution and laws.

What he can accept is 4 Americans murdered by guns in Benghazi.

Bummer: No Way To Measure The Hiding Heat In Deep Oceans

Warmists are still beating the bandwagon about the heat doing a Where’s Waldo? in the deep oceans (say, why wasn’t it doing this before?), but, um, well, er (via Tom Nelson)

“The heat is still coming in, but it appears to have gone into the deep ocean and, frustratingly, we do not have the instruments to measure there,” said Professor Ted Shepherd of Reading University. “Global warming has certainly not gone away.”

How convenient. Warmists are desperately looking for some way to cover up the 15+ year pause, and 22 year statistically insignificant rise. More humor below the fold
