Conservative Group Tells Obama Comprehensive Immigration Bill Is An “Awful Idea”

The schizophrenic president, who bounces from subject to subject as of The Utmost Importance daily, is making a push to get the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform, ie, a giant bill which most haven’t read and don’t understand and will make all sorts of unexpected changes, passed

(Fox News) A group of House Republicans is rejecting President Obama’s call for members to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

In a letter to the White House, the group calls the legislation, already passed by the Senate, an “awful deal” for American workers and questions how Obama could champion higher wages for them while backing a law that allows millions of low-skilled workers into the U.S. labor force.

“We write to you today on behalf of the 21 million Americans who can’t find a full-time job,” writes Alabama GOP Rep. Mo Brooks and 15 other largely conservative House members. “Comprehensive immigration reform may be a good deal for big businesses that want to reduce labor costs. And it may be a good deal for progressive labor unions seeking new workers from abroad. But it’s an awful deal for U.S. workers.”

There does need to be immigration reform, there is no doubt about that. It needs to start with reform the legal immigration system, in part finding ways to make sure that people do not end up as illegals. Approximately 35-40% of the illegals in the US are people who came to the US legally and overstayed their visas. Then we can provide carrots and sticks, mostly sticks, for all illegals. We should not be rewarding them for Bad Behavior. Otherwise, let’s just throw the rule of law out the window and we can make the system about feelings.

The letter to Obama argues “the White House has entertained a parade of high-powered business executives to discuss immigration policy, all while shutting out the concerns of everyday wage-earners who overwhelmingly oppose these measures.”

“Job number one for Congress should be to reduce the unemployment rolls, get families and communities out of poverty and government dependency, rebuild our deteriorating communities and collapsing middle class, and increase wages for American citizens,” the letter concludes. “Your immigration proposals do the exact opposite on every count.”

But the immigration reform is more about politics, and getting Hispanics to vote Democrat, and, yes, legalizing the illegals on a fast track and getting them the ability to vote. Along with some other notions, like firing up the unhinged liberal base and getting more people on the federal dole.

Unshockingly, Democrats Blame Big Business For Obamacare Rollout

I’d like to say this is a 100% idiotic attempt to deflect blame, but there are enough business haters out there for it to partly work

(Politico) Democrats taking heat back home for Obamacare’s rocky online rollout say don’t blame them — blame Big Business.

Facing an onslaught of constituent frustration over problems with online exchanges, several Democrats have started pointing fingers at the companies and senior executives in their home states that have contracts to get the health care websites up and running.

Democrats have made a version of the argument in Washington in recent months, defending the health care law not only from Republican attacks that it’s a failure — but from the line that government itself can’t do big things.

Now that rhetoric — blame the contractors — is hitting local events.

One of the instances mentioned is Sen. Jeff Merkley blaming Oracle for the Cover Oregon debacle, and even went as far as singling out Oracles president Safra Catz (hey, that sounds a bit like a war on women /sic).

In North Carolina, Hagan, who faces one of the Senate’s toughest reelection races, has asked the Government Accountability Office to investigate the HealthCare.gov rollout, with several pointed questions for the contractors’ roles.

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said Wednesday that she is considering suing CGI over its work on the state’s exchange. Gov. Deval Patrick wouldn’t say whether he wants to sue but made it clear that he’s upset with the company.

There’s no doubt many of the contractors did a piss poor job, especially CGI. Let’s not forget, though, that many were picked in no-bid contracts, including CGI, and CGI already had a history of poor results, and that’s being charitable.

However, who was responsible for making sure the work was done? There’s a saying in business “inspect what you expect”. This doesn’t mean micromanage, it means check in now and then to make sure the work is proceeding. If you assign a task to your underling and never bother to make sure it’s being done, and done correctly, and it’s a mess, who gets blamed? You do. Your boss will hold you responsible. In the same way, it is still the fault of the government, particularly HHS, HHS head Kathleen Sebelius, and President Obama. And every Democrat who supports this law, especially those who voted for the mess.

PS: On that note, I could care less about the Chris Christie “lane closure” issue. Until Team Obama is held responsible for all their messes, such as IRS targeting, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Obamacare, and so much more, I don’t care. I do predict, and it is an easy prediction, that the media will go all Abu Ghraid on Christie, breathless reports daily, unlike with Obama, or had Christie been a Democrat.

Satanic Group Provides Rendering For Display In Oklahoma State Capitol

I wonder if the ACLU and/or atheists will whine about this

(The Blaze) A satanic group has unveiled designs for a 7-foot-tall, goat-headed deity it wants at the Oklahoma state Capitol.

The New York-based Satanic Temple released an artist’s rendering of the monument Monday. A spokesman says the group has formally submitted its application to a panel that oversees the Capitol grounds.

They want to do this because Oklahoma plans on putting a 10 Commandments display at the capitol. Here’s what it looks like

How cute, such wonderful smiling kids smiling back at a smiling devil.

Anyhow, I don’t have a problem with this per say, if one group wants a religious display on government grounds, others should have the same ability. However, I do have a problem with a New York group butting in on a Oklahoma affair. If this was a group of Oklahoman Satanists, sure. New York? Mind your own business.

That said, at least they’re trying to compete, rather than shut the 10 Commandments display down.

Good News: Obamacare To Now Ruin Olympics

Of course, NBC does a pretty fine job of ruining the Games with their constant focus on yapping and human interest stories rather than showing the actual events. This is just the icing on the cake

(Politico) The Obama administration is planning an Olympic-size ad blitz to push health coverage during the winter games next month.

HHS confirmed Tuesday that it has bought advertising time in markets with high rates of uninsured people to air during the Winter Olympics, which run Feb. 7-23.

Sigh. But, there is a silver lining here in North Carolina

The ads immediately became attack fodder in the fiercely contested Senate race in North Carolina, where endangered Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan has been hammered for supporting the law.

“It just reinforces the reality that Kay Hagan repeatedly broke promises she made about Obamacare to North Carolina voters and will not be able to hide from the unpopular law,” said NRSC spokesman Brad Dayspring. “Mary Landrieu said the 2014 elections are a referendum on Obamacare, and this suggests that the administration believes that.”

Obviously, Hagan is attempting to run away from her links to Obama and Obamacare. Her spokesweasel even said “This election isn’t about the Affordable Care Act.” That might be news to Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

Anyhow, now Obamacare will make the Winter Games even more unwatchable.

NY Times: Polar Vortex Is Nothing New, But It’s Still A Sign Of Climate Change

Then there’s the Idiotorial Board of the NY Times

By now, we all know that a polar vortex is a cyclone of frigid air centered on the Arctic. A rogue sweep of that air moved south and pushed the temperature in Central Park in New York City to a 118-year low of 5 degrees on Tuesday morning; records were similarly broken in scores of other American and Canadian cities; and flights were canceled across North America. Yet winter has barely begun, and, even before the icy cold of this week, it had already treated the eastern United States to snowstorms, southwest Britain to monster waves and northern Europe to unusually nasty weather.

Weather is changing in ways we cannot easily predict or understand. The polar vortex has had kinks before — most dramatically in March 1921, when temperatures in Central Park plummeted from 82 degrees to 26 degrees in 14 hours — just as there have been catastrophic floods, droughts, heat waves and blizzards all through recorded history. Experts say this week’s kink in the polar vortex could be the result of warm air over Greenland and Alaska; some point out that changes to the polar vortex have become more common in recent years. British meteorologists said the brutal storms in Britain since October could be the result of hot Sahara air that got stranded over the North Atlantic.

There you go: it’s happened before, but now it could be “global warming”.

The point stressed by meteorologists the world over is that severe conditions that used to occur infrequently, say once a century, now happen more frequently, with greater and greater consequences. The threat of climate change is real, and our governments should prepare for the damage and dislocations caused by more extreme weather. Common sense would dictate that we attack all the risk factors that might make things worse next time.

Obviously, the answer to all this is more and more government, more regulation, more control by government over the private sector and the lives of individuals. Am I right? Even though this has happened before. Will the NY Times give up its use of fossil fuels to help stop “climate change”?

BTW, most meteorologists say exactly the opposite of what the Times thinks.

Chris Christie: You’re Cold-Hearted If You Don’t Support Helping Illegal Aliens

Remember, this is the guy who has a good shot at being the 2016 Republican presidential candidate, someone the GOP insiders, and liberal media, supports

(CNN) Flanked by Hispanic leaders, students, and immigration reform advocates, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie celebrated the signing of his state’s so-called DREAM Act on Tuesday, hailing the new law a sound economic choice and an object lesson in bipartisan cooperation.

“We know that when we bring people together, when we work together despite some of our differences, that we also set an example of optimism for every one of the 8.9 million people who live here,” Christie said at a signing event in Union City, a Hispanic stronghold just across the Hudson River from Manhattan.

“Unlike what happens in Washington, that government can actually work for you,” he added. “That things can actually get done, that agreements can be reached, and that commitments can be kept.”

The bill grants in-state college tuition rates to undocumented high school graduates who attended a New Jersey high school for at least three years.

Well, it seems to work for people who shouldn’t actually be in Los Estados Unidos, much less New Jersey. Getting things done for the sake of getting things done, especially when it doesn’t actually help the citizens of the State, is meaningless. And this costs the taxpayers of NJ money.

“Our job, I believe, as a government, is to give every one of these children who we have already invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in, an opportunity to maximize the investment for their benefit, for the benefit of their families, for the benefit of our state and the country,” Christie said.

There you go. Money that could have been spent on the legal citizens of New Jersey.

“Even if you’re cold-hearted about this, you can agree with the common sense of the economics: An investment made should be an investment maximized,” he said.

Or, we could make a one-time investment in deportation. We could tell them that breaking our laws is unacceptable, rather than rewarding the behavior. And Christie has just told those who are against illegal immigration that they’re cold-hearted, mean people. Feeling better about 2016?

Raleigh Breaks Cold Low Temperature Mark

The previous record low was 15F set in 1988, per NOAA

(Raleigh N&O) The coldest weather Tuesday morning was found at North Carolina’s highest point, where Mount Mitchell reported a low of minus 24. Grandfather Mountain fell to minus 17, while Boone dipped to 8 below zero.

Asheville reported a low of minus 1, which broke a record for the day set in 1879. The airport in Greensboro set a record with a low of 5 degrees, Charlotte’s airport set a record low at 8 degrees and Raleigh’s airport also reach a record low at 9 degrees.

Somehow, this is supposed to be proof, proof I tell you!!!!!!1!!! of global warming, er, climate change, er, extreme weather. Seriously. That’s what the Climate Astrologers are telling us. The Asheville record stood for 135 years. The previous record low max temperature for Raleigh was 21, 1988. We only missed that mark by 2-3 degrees.

Anthony Watts notes that there have been 462 cold records to 105 warm records so far this year.

As always, let me point out that this is not climate, and doesn’t prove or disprove anything. However, climate astrologers were reading their tea leaves computer models and telling us this shouldn’t happen anymore just a few years ago, before Mother Nature laughed at said computer models, at which point Warmists had to dig for all sorts of fanciful explanations.

Feds Sue Buckyballs Founder, Still Ignore Colorado Marijuana

(Washington Post) The tiny, shiny magnets known as Buckyballs have always been a lot more powerful than they look, and now they are at the center of a high-stakes legal dispute over whether the government can hold a busi­ness­ owner personally liable for a consumer recall.

New York entrepreneur Craig Zucker thought he had the most successful venture of his young career when he developed the desk toy in 2009, consisting of pellets that can be twisted and stacked into infinite shapes. (Snip)

But Zucker dissolved his business in December 2012, so the commission took the unusual step of filing a lawsuit to hold him personally responsible for a potential recall that could cost up to $57 million, assuming every buyer of the desk toys claims reimbursement. Zen Magnets and Star Networks USA, which sell similar products, were also named as defendants.

Can someone please tell me how many products are out there that kids can easily obtain and swallow, like, say, marijuana? How about alcohol? Los Federales say that kids can swallow the magnets. Kids can swallow anything, and do. This sounds more like retaliation.
