Foreign Cities Totally Vow TO Fight ‘Climate Change’ Despite Trump

Um, ok?

Sydney, Vancouver mayors vow to fight climate change despite Trump

Cities around the world can combat climate change without national government support, the mayors of Sydney and Vancouver said on Wednesday, amid fears that a Donald Trump U.S. presidency could undermine efforts to limit global warming.

The two were in Mexico City for the C40 Mayors’ Summit, where nearly 50 mayors and deputies from around the globe will discuss environmental issues such as air pollution.

Glad they could take long fossil fueled trips to tell us this

“Denial doesn’t stop climate change accelerating so it’s even more important for cities to do their bit,” Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore told Reuters.

“An important message from Sydney to the U.S. cities is: ‘Notwithstanding a Trump–type government, you can get on and do an incredible amount,'” she added.

Cities are responsible for up to 70 percent of the world’s harmful greenhouse gases, according to a 2011 report by the United Nations.

Earlier in November, a group of 40 U.S. mayors sent an open letter to Trump stating that they would forge ahead in tackling climate change, even without his support.

OK, have at it. Go for it. No one is stopping you. A better question is “why haven’t you done all this already?” Why haven’t they instituted restrictive policies that artificially increase the cost of energy which will increase the cost of living for their citizens? Why haven’t they done away with the use of fossil fuels in their cities? And heavy carbon taxes? Sure, many have done it to a small degree, and many make noises, but, they won’t do it themselves. They want Everyone to be forced to engage in their cultish beliefs.

Besides, what can Trump do when it comes to foreign cities like Sydney and Vancouver? This is simply fake news based on Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Washington Post Totally Wants Trump To Negotiate On Sanctuary Cities

The Editorial Board sees no reason to punish millions of Americans by withholding financial aid to those cities who are sanctuaries for illegal aliens. I’m still waiting for the editorial arguing that Mr. Obama shouldn’t have threatened to do the same when it comes to school systems refusing to implement policies that allow gender confused boys to enter the bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms of underage girls.

Trump pledged to ‘end’ sanctuary cities. Common sense, not threats, should guide him.

PRESIDENT-ELECT Donald Trump’s threat to deport 2 million to 3 million illegal immigrants with criminal records — a flimsy number thatcrumbles upon scrutiny — has caused tremors in some of the nation’s biggest metropolitan areas, especially those considered “sanctuary cities.” In fact, while some localities impose limits on working with federal immigration authorities, a large majority — including most regarded as sanctuary cities — do cooperate when it comes to helping to transfer and deport dangerous and violent felons scheduled to be released from jail or prison.

Usually they are forced to do so, because the Feds already have detainers on the illegals, and the jails are typically run by the county sheriff’s department or the state, not the cities. And, yes, the majority of cities do work with Los Federales on this. That’s a strawman argument, because it’s the ones who don’t that are the problem.

The question is, what happens if Mr. Trump wants to go further by enlisting local law enforcement agencies to hand over or help sweep up undocumented immigrants convicted for small-time shoplifting, driving without a license and other minor offenses? The issue — part of a “negotiation,” in the words of Reince Priebus, Mr. Trump’s pick for White House chief of staff — is which crimes are sufficiently serious that they should trigger deportation, and reasonably require cooperation in that regard from local officials.

This is prognostication without evidence that it might happen. Regardless, local law enforcement is, by law, supposed to inform ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) when they have detained an illegal alien.

What crimes are sufficiently serious? Well, being in the country illegally would be a start.

A common-sense test should apply to federal policies and local ones. A fair-minded federal standard would not require local law enforcement agencies to be pressed into service as deportation agencies chasing or handing over undocumented immigrants who have committed minor offenses. To do so would subvert relations between law enforcement and local immigrant communities, in which trust and cooperation are critical.

The only ones suggesting that local law enforcement might be pressed into being La Migra are the members of the WP Editorial Board, and then they set the conditions where they shouldn’t.

A fair-minded local standard would ensure that police, sheriffs and corrections officials see to it that dangerous criminals — violent felons and those convicted of multiple serious offenses, drunk drivers, sex abusers, drug dealers — do not slip through the cracks.

The WPEB goes on to note the situation in which Kate Steinle (the article doesn’t even have the courtesy of printing her name) was murdered by an illegal alien, who was back in the country yet again illegally, who had a long rapsheet of felonies, who “slipped through the cracks” in San Francisco. In other words, the SF law enforcement ignored the federal detainer. This is rather the point in cracking down on sanctuary cities, places illegals, especially those with criminal records/wanted for criminal offenses, can stream to, know that law enforcement will mostly ignore them, and, if they are picked up, the elected officials will force them to be let go.

The tricky part is that there is no single accepted definition of a sanctuary city. Some, including New York, cooperate in handing over some felons, but not others, to federal authorities at their release date, depending on the severity of the crime. Others, such as Cook County in Illinois, which includes Chicago, refuse to turn over undocumented immigrants unless federal agents obtain a court warrant.

Perhaps they should have read the Ohio Jobs and Justice PAC page on sanctuary cities, which defines them and lists them, essentially the first to ever do so, and cities and counties are continuously added, ones which are primarily run by Democrats.

The Trump administration is entitled to seek fair and consistent standards that protect communities from dangerous criminals without poisoning relations between local law enforcement and immigrant communities. Better to negotiate terms than punish millions of Americans by suspending billions in federal funding to localities.

You mean like how Arizona was threatened by the Obama administration over their illegal aliens bill, SB1070? Or states were threatened by Team Obama over their gay marriage restrictions, typically passed by the citizens voting on new state constitution amendments? Or how NC was threatened over HB2, which stops state, county, and local governments from forcing private businesses to accomodate the gender confused, as well as not allowing them to use government property as such (even though there were no penalties)?

As far as fair and consistent standards, they are already on the books! There are federal laws about this. The Democratic Party run sanctuary cities are not in legal compliance.

Trump Will Soon Have Power To Text All Americans Or Something

Everybody Panic? Well, if you’re a liberal, this could potentially spell doom for the Republic

(CNET) President-elect Donald Trump will have access to a system that can send unblockable texts to every phone in the US once he takes the oath of office.

Wireless Emergency Alerts are a program created by a 2006 act of Congress. The so-called “WEAs” can be targeted messages sent to all mobile phones in a particular area, like Amber alerts, or to all phones nationally, like an alert issued by the president, according to a report by New York Magazine’s Select/All blog.

Trump is known for off-the-cuff messages on social media, especially Twitter. Tweets and other social missives lent Trump a direct mouthpiece to his supporters, bolstering his campaign and circumventing traditional media that he sometimes claimed was treating him unfairly. But tweets have landed Trump in hot water, too. Critics claim his informal tweeting is unpresidential, pointing to such behavior as an early-morning rant lashing out at a former beauty-pangeant winner, retweets withmedia linked to white supremecists and messages that promote unsubstantiated news, among others.

Unshockingly, Team Trump did not respond to a request on this story, because, it’s pretty darned stupid. NY Mag, mentioned above, notes there are 3 conditions to use the emergency text system. For Amber Alerts, for alerts involving imminent danger, and for alerts issued by the President. NY Mag is having a meltdown, of course

Perhaps an even bigger protection: Getting access to the system requires some time and effort — most people with access take at least two courses in how to use the system — something that it’s hard to imagine Trump (who doesn’t use a computer) learning how to do on his own. Which means he would need the help of his support staff to issue a WEA about how news outlets still refuse to stop taking pictures that emphasize his double chin — and the only time Trump’s Twitter wasn’t full of random surges of pure id and spite was when his campaign staff took his Twitter account away from him.

And Raw Story is a little unhinged

In other words, if President Trump wants the entire country to know that Rosie O’Donnell is “a real loser” or that “dishonest CNN” is even worse than the “failing New York Times,” he’ll be able to tell everyone in the country about it — and there will be no way to block him out.

Thankfully, these alerts are typically only used as emergency notifications, so it’s unlikely that Trump will use them to broadcast his feuds with assorted celebrities. Nonetheless, given how unconventional his campaigning and governing style have proven to be so far, it can’t be completely ruled out.

And Mashable

But, like, what if he changes the legal definition of “emergency” to “something I am thinking about” and then he just hooks up this alert system to his phone or something insane and hopefully not possible and then all of a sudden we’re all up in the wee hours of the morning staring bleary-eyed at a 70-year-old former reality TV star’s rant about, I dunno, how he thinks CNN is a steaming pile of cow dung, or how he is definitely going to save all of our jobs, or maybe how White House food is great and all but it just doesn’t live up to Trump Tower taco bowls.

Mashable is one of the only ones who gets that the system is for emergencies. It’s not so the President can just send a text. It’s for emergencies, and, for POTUS, primarily national emergencies. We can pretty much throw this one into the “fake news” category all the Liberals are apoplectic over, because it is concern about future doom without any evidence that it might even be considered.

Why would Trump even bother? When he sends a tweet, the media are ready to discuss within seconds. He’ll get all the media attention he wants.

House Democrats Vote To Continue Being The Party Of San Francisco Values

I actually thought the Dems might have been on to something, but, apparently they haven’t lost quite enough federal, state, and local elected positions yet

(The Hill)  House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday fended off a challenge to her long leadership reign, defeating Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) in a closed-door vote prompted largely by Donald Trump’s unlikely ascension to the White House.

Pelosi got 134 votes to Ryan’s 63 — winning 68 percent of the votes after declaring before the election that she had the support of two-thirds of the caucus. The victory sends a message that while there’s a growing appetite for major changes in the party’s leadership structure and messaging tactics, it’s not strong enough to loosen Pelosi’s grip on a liberal-heavy group that’s rarely challenged her authority.

Ryan and his supporters had argued that the Democrats’ grim performance in this year’s elections — the latest in a string of cycles planting Republicans firmly in the majority — was a clear signal that Pelosi’s leadership strategy has failed to attract the broad coalition of voters required to return the Speaker’s gavel to the Democrats’ hands.

Under Pelosi, they’ll continue to be the party that sneers at folks in the Rust Belt, “flyover country”, whatever you want to call these Middle America areas. They’ll be the party of coastal city elites, dilettantes in the Hamptons, celebrities, and people who demand to live off the backs of he work of other people. They’ll be the party of abortion on demand with zero restrictions allow, of gun grabbing, of forcing people to accept the gender confused in the changing rooms with their daughters. The party of Big Government taking more and more money, and liberty. away from citizens. People have gotten smart, and, while so many agree with the Dems in theory, in practice, they know the policies are bad for their own lives.

Senator Coons Kinda Bummed That He Made It Easier To Confirm Appointment

This is sure to be one of those “well, gee, perhaps we shouldn’t have done this under Obama” moments for Democrats when the Era Of Trump starts

(Washington Free Beacon)  Senator Chris Coons (D., Del.) said on CNN Tuesday that he regrets the rule change Senate Democrats made to the nomination process.

“The filibuster no longer acts as an emergency brake on the nomination,” Coons said.

The senator was questioned on the nomination process and the rule changes that senate Democrats had made in order to keep Republicans from derailing their selected nominees.

Coons admitted that Democrats had watered down the nomination process after Kate Bolduan mentioned that Republican’s could now take advantage of the simpler consent process.

“I do regret that. Frankly I think many of us will regret that in this congress because it would have been a terrific speed bump, potential emergency break, to have in our system to slow down the confirmation of extreme nominees,” Coons said.

Democrats made this bed, now they’ll have to lie in it. Sure, they’ll caterwaul and their Compliant Media will backstop them, but, if elected Republicans stay strong (always a dicey proposition), they can use the exact same rules Democrats used to push the Trump/Republican agenda.

Surprise: Climate Ghouls Blame Tennessee Fire On ‘Climate Change’

The Tennessee wildfires have killed at least three and forced over 14,000 out of their homes, destroying over 250 buildings. The cause of the blaze is unknown. Except to the Climate Ghouls, Warmists who take advantage of everything bad that happens to push their cultish beliefs

(Climate Central) Whether climate change will make fires more common in the region is an ongoing area of research. It’s unclear if the Southeast will become wetter or drier due to climate change and that will have a big influence on future wildfire activity.

The region is likely to keep warming, though, and that means that any future dry spells will be more likely to lead to drought, creating more fuel for fires to burn.

(CS Monitor) While scenes of blazing forests and hazy skies are more frequently associated with the drier Western states, wildfires have always burned in Southeastern states despite being wetter and cooler. But the incident this year is noted for its intensity, having occurred during exceptional drought and scarce rainfall for months. Although experts are wary of linking such conditions to climate change, they say that with current climate model predictions of higher temperatures and longer consecutive dry periods, risks for wildfires will increase.

(Mashable) While the proximate cause of this fire may have been human action, perhaps even arson, climate conditions have primed the area for fires.

Those are some of the less insane articles.

NY Times Is Rather Vexed By Trump’s Tweet On Flag Burning

By vexed, I mean apoplectic. Here’s the tweet, if you haven’t seen it

This is what you call an “opinion.” Since it’s coming from the soon to be POTUS, it obviously holds a bit more weight, by, it’s an opinion. I personally disagree with it, holding the opinion that you should be allowed to burn the flag, and, if so, someone should be allowed to punch you in the face once without facing assault charges. That’s me. For the NY Times Editorial Board, it’s Defcon 1

Mr Trump, Meet The Constitution

It should be noted that the subhead on the front page reads “Why is the president-elect afraid of free speech?” Remember all those times the NY Times took Obama to task for when his IRS was abusing its power against Conservative groups? Or any of his other anti-free speech stances?

When Donald Trump, hand on the Bible on Jan. 20, swears to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, we the people will have good reason to doubt he knows what he’s talking about. Consider what he tweeted out on Tuesday:

“Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag – if they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!”

Here’s where we explain what shouldn’t need explaining. Flag-burning is constitutionally protected speech. The Supreme Court has made this clear, in a ruling joined by Mr. Trump’s favorite justice, Antonin Scalia. It’s popular to want to punish flag-burners — pandering politicians, including Hillary Clinton, have tried. But the First Amendment exists to protect unpopular, even repulsive forms of expression. As the Supreme Court said in a 1990 decision finding a federal law against flag-burning unconstitutional, “Punishing desecration of the flag dilutes the very freedom that makes this emblem so revered, and worth revering.”

So, they go on in this fashion for awhile (the Washington Post Editorial Board is also having a snit fit, to go with so many other media outlets), ending with

He tweets, he posts, he incites. He trolls. He commands a global platform and will soon be America’s commander in chief. But it has to be said, and said again: This is not normal. It demeans the presidency.

We could play the “well, why weren’t you upset when Obama did it” game, but, hey, lapdog media. Let’s note one word: trolls. And consider something Newt Gingrich said

“[The Apprentice] was a remarkably popular show,” Gingrich told Fox News host Jenna Lee during the interview. “[Trump] understands the value of tension. He understands the value of showmanship. And candidly, the news media is going to chase the rabbit. So it’s better off for him to give them a rabbit than for them to go find their own rabbit. He’s had them fixated on Mitt Romney now for five or six days. I think from his perspective, that’s terrific. It gives everyone something to talk about.”

Trump tweets, and the Democrats and their Compliant Media immediately jump to some sort of high level Moonbattery. Trump is most likely playing with them with tweets like the flag burning one. It sets them off on their chase for the white rabbit. Trump’s not going to attempt to get Congress to pass a law on flag burning. He won’t waste time with executive action. He probably sat around Tuesday and laughed at how easy the Leftist media is, and is getting a chuckle out of it today. A separate article in the NY Times shows some may get it

“Media would be wise to stop hyper-coverage of Trump’s tweets — they distract, distort and debase,” Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of The Nation, said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

The historian Fred Kaplan declared, “It’s time to ignore his tweets,” echoing others who wondered whether Mr. Trump’s provocative statements were a deliberate effort to distract journalists.

But, most will take the bait. They can’t ignore it, and it’ll send them, and, more importantly, the opinion writers and editorial boards into Moonbat Level 10. Which will provide great amusement for us for years to come.

Fake News: Washington Post Attempts To Protect All Those Rapey Refugees In Europe

As you surely know by now, there has been quite an epidemic of crime in European nations from all the Middle Eastern and African migrants (refugees, whatever) who have streamed into the nations over the past 10-20 years, and especially in the past few years. Sexual assaults, including rape, along with misogynistic attitudes (the real ones, not the ones that invoke the patriarchy because a guy pees standing up), have skyrocketed, and, usually, these are things that hardcore Liberals are over-the-top concerned with, beyond the normal outrage and concern most people have.

But, here’s the thing: in Leftist dogma, Women take a back seat to Muslims, even the violent and/or hardcore (Islamists) ones. At no point is it allowable to point at the small section of Muslims who are a problem. It’s perfectly OK to blame all Conservatives, Christians, Jews, etc, for the failings of a few. But not Muslims. So, we end up with this:

27% of Europeans say rape may be acceptable in some circumstances

A rape victim was drunk? He or she flirted beforehand or wore “revealing” clothing? In some European countries, up to 55 percent of the population says such circumstances would make sexual intercourse without consent justifiable or acceptable, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the European Commission. Overall, about one-fourth — 27 percent — of all Europeans held that opinion.

The number is much higher in Eastern and Central European nations such as Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. In Romania, more than 50 percent of all respondents said nonconsensual sexual intercourse was acceptable in some circumstances. Although there was a clear divide between Eastern and Western Europe, geography alone does not explain the striking differences. (snip)

The E.U. report comes amid growing concern about recent sexual assaults in European countries by refugees or immigrants. In Germany, mass sexual assaults this past New Year’s Eve led to a stricter sexual-assault law that also eased deportation rules for refugees convicted of sex-related offenses.

And that’s the point of the survey: to absolve all these sexual assulty and rapey “refugees” of their crimes by saying that so many Europeans have the same attitudes.

Of course, there’s one problem: the Europeans aren’t exactly acting on these beliefs like the “rapeugees”. But, that doesn’t matter, because the idea is to say that Europeans are no better than all the criminal and rapey refugees streaming into Europe.

I assume the article came from this survey, which, interestingly, provides no breakdown on the religion or nationality of the 30,000 supposedly surveyed. And this would all be the type of “fake news” the MSM is whining about.
