Surprise: NY Governor Looks To Make It More Difficult For Law Abiding Citizens To Purchase Firearms

Remember, Democrats tell us they want to make it harder for criminals to purchase firearms, yet, their policies always seem to harm law abiding citizens

(NY Daily News) Gov. Cuomo wants to increase the background check waiting period for the purchase of firearms in New York to a maximum 10 days, the Daily News has learned.

“We need to do everything in our power to keep guns out of the hands of people too dangerous to have them,” a Cuomo administration official said Saturday.

Cuomo intends to make the issue a priority in the final weeks of the state budget talks with the Legislature, which are set to conclude by April 1, the administration official said.

“In light of the school shooting tragedy in Florida, the governor is seeking to make the SAFE Act, which is already the strongest gun safety law in the country, even stronger,” the Cuomo source said. “This is about the safety of New Yorkers and the safety of our children.”

Who is this going to affect? Essentially, the system should come back with a response immediately, as it is called the National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS). Instant. Under federal law, if the FBI hasn’t responded within 3 days, then the application is approved by Los Federales. States are allowed to enact their own waiting periods. That’s fine. Certain people do need a cooling off period.

But moving this out to 10 days in the worst state for gun owners in the U.S. (only D.C. is worse) smacks of just another attempt to deny law abiding citizens their Constitutional Right.

Under current law, anyone seeking to purchase a pistol, shotgun or rifle in New York must undergo a background check. That check has three possible outcomes. The first allows the purchase to proceed immediately. The second is a denial of the sale. And the third is a call for a delay in the delivery of the gun.

That delay, under current law, can last only up to three days and then the gun can be delivered to the buyer.

Cuomo will seek to push that maximum delay to 10 days. Doing so would give the FBI more opportunity to let the dealer know if they found something in the database that should kill the sale, supporters say.

How many will suddenly find themselves on that delay list? Could it end up being 100%? In fact, there’s no real evidence that waiting periods stop crime.

Meanwhile, a whole bunch of kids who are apparently super smarter with all their worldly experience are calling for more and more restrictions

“This idea is not to prevent responsible and law abiding citizens from legally obtaining their weapons,” she said, adding she’s tired of hearing gun reform framed as “a bunch of brainwashed liberals coming into our homes and stealing our guns.”

If they have to put it that way, then what they really want is to take guns away from law abiding citizens.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day: Of Course We Have To Talk ‘Climate Change’ (scam)

Is anyone surprised that the Cult of Climastrology is attempting to hijack St. Patty’s day for their un-scientific views?

St. Patrick’s Day, climate change and Congress

What is America’s Irish heritage? Americans love a day that “gives” them a free pass for limitless drinking.

That free pass comes on St. Patrick’s Day and the Irish are thanked. Is this the primary Irish influence on America?

As anyone who has paid the slightest attention to Irish history or visited Ireland knows, the Irish famine devastated the land. Irish refugees flooded our country and worldwide ports, arriving in coffin ships. Sound familiar?

The potato monoculture across Ireland allowed the rapid dispersal of disease, wiping out their food source. That was also a period of shifts in the weather pattern with harsher winters.

That would be the Little Ice Age

Congressman Charlie Dent and House Speaker Paul Ryan previously enjoyed the fellowship of Washington’s Friends of Ireland luncheon. If they lifted a glass of Guinness, were they remembering that climate affects the crops people depend on to live in their own lands?

Congressman Dent should please show the wisdom painfully learned from his proud Irish heritage and join the congressional Climate Solutions Caucus. They put aside Washington blarney and work for solutions. Let the rain fall softly.

Warmists Are Super Unhappy To Base Regulations On Scientific Data

A perfect example of why I call the entire anthropogenic climate change issue political, rather than being scientific

From the link

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is reportedly planning to further restrict the use of scientific evidence in rule-making. The plans are inspired by efforts championed by one of Congress’ most notorious climate science deniers, House Science, Space, and Technology Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX).

The EPA’s initiative was discussed during a closed-door meeting on March 15 at the Heritage Foundation — a Washington, D.C. think tank known for promoting climate science denial and which was instrumental in influencing Trump’s transition team — E&E News reported Friday.

If adopted, the plan would require the EPA to rely only on scientific studies where the underlying data used by the researchers is made public. The impact would be to impose a dramatic burden on EPA officials effectively limiting their ability to introduce new protections for health and the environment. (snip)

Last March, the House passed Smith’s latest legislative effort — known as the HONEST Act — that would implement the rule at the EPA requiring regulations be based on data that is public and reproducible. The bill has not gone anywhere since, however. Smith has also tried to push the initiative under the 2019 proposed budget.

Zoinks! The Cult of Climastrology really, really, really doesn’t want their data available for others to see nor attempt to reproduce the outcomes. You know, the whole Scientific Method. If you can’t reproduce it, it is not scientific. And, as far as reproducible, Think Progress yammers on about peer review and stuff. I guess they missed the article on scientists not being able to replicate studies by their peers, published by that ultra-right wing outfit the BBC.

Hot Take: Armed Teachers Will Cause More Black Kids Deaths Or Something

It’s rather difficult to determine whether you’re reading Newsweek or Salon these days, but, one has to wonder why teachers who are mostly leftists hate black kids

GIVE TEACHERS GUNS, AND MORE BLACK CHILDREN WILL DIE

In response to the growing calls for action to prevent gun violence in our schools, President Trump has proposed arming teachers to keep kids safe. I’m not alone in being alarmed and terrified at that proposal. As a black mother who has had a child killed by gun violence, I know all too well how this dangerous proposal would add to the worries of other black and brown parents, and entire communities.

My son, George Jr., was shot and killed in 2013 when he was only 20 years old. Like many Texans, his life revolved around his family, football, his horse and country music. He had finished one year of college, and we had big dreams for his future. Losing George, my only son, knocked me down to the point that I thought I’d never get back up.

Like so many black victims in our country, George’s life story was completely rewritten by the defense attorneys for his murderers. They ignored the stories shared by people who knew and loved George, and instead painted my son as a “gang member”—a mischaracterization the media was all too ready to amplify.

Amplify because most in law enforcement thought George was involved in criminal activity, and, yup, he was shot by another Black. Not a teacher. This article is written by Calandrian Simpson Kemp, a volunteer with the Texas chapter of the gun banning/grabbing group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America

Unfortunately, this kind of bias is the rule in our country—not the exception. Black and brown children are considered more dangerous than white kids. Too often, they face the mistaken belief that they are armed when they’re not.

In classrooms, these beliefs mean that children of color are more likely to be disciplined than white peers. A report from the New York Civil Liberties Union found that 99 percent of children handcuffed in New York City public schools were black or Latino. Research from the National Women’s Law Center shows that African-American girls are more than five times more likely to face suspension and six times more likely to face expulsion than white girls. Meanwhile, only six percent of white male students receive out-of-school suspensions, compared to 20 percent of black male students. And this gap begins in preschool.

Already, students of color are being pushed out of their classrooms and losing out on the education they need to succeed after graduation. When guns are involved, this kind of bias has life or death consequences. Like it did for Tamir Rice, who was playing with a toy gun when he was shot and killed by police at just 12 years old.

If teachers are allowed to carry handguns in classrooms, Trump’s proposal will only make black and brown children like mine less safe—facing an increased risk of gun violence in the places they go to learn and grow.

Well, that’s one hell of a jump in logic. Apparently, Leftist teachers, who are typically gunphobic, have a hankering for shooting Black kids. Who knew?

Even in the face of a school shooting, arming teachers is unlikely to keep any child safe. Armed civilians are almost never successful in active shooting situations and in many instances make it harder for law enforcement to intervene. It’s not surprising that teachers overwhelmingly oppose Trump’s plan.

That’s because armed civilians are typically not armed during these shooting situations, because these active shooting situations tend to occur in gun free zones, and the armed civilians follow the law in disarming themselves in those areas.

Gun grabbing Ms. Kemp offers up some more stuff, but, really, this is a new one: giving teachers guns will mean they are popping caps into the asses of Black kids. Le sigh.

Surprising: Illegal Alien Accused Of Vehicular Manslaughter Turns Self Into ICE

By surprising, I mean this is surprising. Most who follow illegal immigration fully expected this guy to be gone gone gone after being released on a pitiful $25,000 bond, which means it cost $2500 to be released (FYI, an article I ran into shortly after posting on this illegal stated that Colorado often releases people on low bail for the charge of vehicular homicide)

(KDVR) An undocumented immigrant charged with vehicular homicide after a fiery crash on I-70 on March 3 who bonded out of jail a week later, turned himself in to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Friday.

Ivan Zamarripa-Castaneda, 26, was in ICE custody a little before 5 p.m. Friday, FOX31 learned.

ICE said they will allow him to stay in Denver for the duration of the trial before deciding whether to deport him.

John Anderson of Lone Tree was killed after his semi collided with another vehicle and caught fire.

Of course, this means little in the case of the Denver Sheriff’s Office playing games with an ICE detainer. It’s far past time to force state, county, and local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE detainers.

That said, one has to wonder if Zamarripa-Castaneda is playing some sort of game designed to make sure he doesn’t get deported, possibly as recommended by illegal alien activists. I guess we will see.

NY Times: Say, We Need To Do Away With This Whole Equal Protection Under The Law Thing

Here’s a super hot take from Laurie Rollitt

A Billionaire and a Nurse Shouldn’t Pay the Same Fine for Speeding

If Mark Zuckerberg and a janitor who works at Facebook’s headquarters each received a speeding ticket while driving home from work, they’d each owe the government the same amount of money. Mr. Zuckerberg wouldn’t bat an eye.

The janitor is another story.

For people living on the economic margins, even minor offenses can impose crushing financial obligations, trapping them in a cycle of debt and incarceration for nonpayment. In Ferguson, Mo., for example, a single $151 parking violation sent a black woman struggling with homelessness into a seven-year odyssey of court appearances, arrest warrants and jail time connected to her inability to pay.

Wait, wait, I think I have the answer:

.

.

.

.

Don’t commit a crime or civil violation. Don’t speed. Don’t park illegally.

There. Problem solved.

Across America, one-size-fits-all fines are the norm, which I demonstrate in an article for the University of Chicago Law Review. Where judges do have wiggle room to choose the size of a fine, mandatory minimums and maximums often tie their hands. Some states even prohibit consideration of a person’s income. And when courts are allowed to take finances into account, they frequently fail to do so.

This is because, get this, justice is supposed to be blind. Everyone is supposed to be treated equally under the law. Does it stink that a Zuckerberg could care less about a speeding ticket, while you might find it burdensome? Well, sure. But, what happens when penalties start being applied based on pretty much whim, rather than fixed Law? You might think this is great now, but then you get nailed.

Again, don’t do something illegal. Problem solved.

Of course, the screed goes on and on and on, but, I have to wonder: weren’t these same people decrying that Blacks are treated differently? Shouldn’t everyone be treated equally under the law? But, hey, you know, Progressives.

Or, people could just not break the law. Silly me.

It’s Your Addiction To Tasty Burgers That’s Causing Indy’s Pothole Mess

Potholes never happened before CO2 carbon pollution atmosphere cancer went above 350ppm

Letters: Climate change lies behind Indy’s pothole mess

As I swerved down the street today on my way to work, passing over some freshly patched potholes and dodging others, it occurred to me that more potholes may be, for Midwesterners, one of the most obvious signs of how changes in the climate are now affecting our daily lives.

While there are lots of reasons for potholes on our city streets, chief among them are the rapid freezing-warming-freezing patterns that have been the hallmark of Indiana’s recent winters. These conditions are the result of observable changes in Indiana’s climate that scientists predict will continue — and worsen — well into the future.

Our infrastructure has been designed and built with certain assumptions about temperature and precipitation, but facts on the ground are changing, and we need to reassess how to maintain and adapt our transportation and other systems.

One way to fix this is with a tax, and certainly for Believers to give up their own use of fossil fuels and make their lives carbon neutral to stop Cold Weather. Oh, wait

One way to help Indiana communities prepare for the future is to create more robust, relevant and accessible information about how decisions made today are likely to be affected by environmental change in the years ahead.

Nope, more about indoctrination. Can’t expect Warmists to practice what they preach, right?

Indianapolis’ pothole problem provides a painful glimpse into the enormous economic burdens that could result from environmental change. But with concerted and collaborative efforts, we can begin to address these problems, leading to a smoother path forward in every sense.

Wait, I thought this was happening now? No? It’s in the future?

Seriously, these people always find something. But, really, the whole point here is to get people to identify little things with man-caused climate change/global warming in everything they see and do, thereby scaring them into acting on this unscientific cult belief.

OMG: Republicans Want To Cut Taxes Again And Let You Keep More Of Your Own Money!

This is horrible. Horrific. Terrible. Abominable. Dreadful. Appalling. Gruesome. So says the Washington Post’s Excitable Catherine Rampell

Get ready. Republicans want to cut taxes again.

Just months ago, Republicans got away with a massive upward redistribution of wealth, raiding $1.5 trillion from the Treasury and sticking future generations with the bill.

Now, they’re going for more.

On Wednesday, President Trump touted his ginormous, sloppily drafted, deficit-financed tax cuts, written under cover of night without benefit of hearings or experts. The whole thing was so much fun, he said, that he hopes to do it all again.

This year.

“We’re actually going for a phase two which will help — in addition to middle class, it will help companies and it’s going to be something I think very special,” Trump said in Missouri. “Kevin Brady is working on it with me, Congress is working, the Senate’s working.”

Brady (R-Tex.), the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, confirmed another tax-cut bill was in the works.

“We think even more can be done,” he gushed on Fox Business News.

Yeah, Catherine isn’t excited about citizens keeping more of the money they earned, because, Democrats believe that your money is actually Government’s money to spend.

The problem for Republicans, of course, is that at this point, tax cuts are the only thing they stand for. As conservative commentator Robert Novak once put it, “God put the Republicans on Earth to cut taxes. If they don’t cut taxes, they have no overriding rationale for existence.”

Well, I suppose that standing for making sure citizens keep more of the money they work hard for isn’t quite as great as making sure unborn babies can have metal objects stuck in their heads then be suctioned out of a womb by a vacuum, the number one sacrament of Democrats. Because abortion on demand is what Democrats are on Earth for.

Oh, and arguing against citizens having more of their own money to spend.
