Bummer: Illegal Aliens Defrauded By Lawyers Could Be Deported

They’re supposed to get deported. They’re here in violation of federal law, but this has given the NY Times a Sad

At the time, Martin Torres Reyes thought he had found a path to a green card.

It was early 2015, and Mr. Torres, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, heard about a lawyer who was promising legal permanent residency to people who had lived in the United States for 10 years and had American-born children.

Mr. Torres went to see the lawyer, Thomas T. Hecht, at his Times Square office, and for an initial fee of $750, the lawyer said that he would get a work permit in six months, and then some time later, the green card.

According to a lawsuit filed late Wednesday in Federal District Court in Manhattan, this was fraud. Mr. Hecht and his son, Leonard H. Hecht, the complaint said, tricked Mr. Reyes and at least 25 other undocumented immigrants from New York.

People violating the law got suckered by other people violating the law.

The plaintiffs all thought they were applying for a green card, but instead, they claimed in the suit that the lawyers filed different paperwork, for asylum, without their knowledge.

“Our community is under attack from all directions, and they know it,” Mr. Torres, 40, said in Spanish in an interview this week, referring to immigration lawyers. He paid a total of $1,100 to the Hechts in installments before leaving the firm.

Your community is in another country.

The 26 individuals who are plaintiffs in the suit, from Staten Island, the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn, are now at risk of deportation, as the Trump administration has said that any immigrant living in the United States illegally is a target.

Not the Trump administration, but federal law. This isn’t just some arbitrary thing Trump is doing.

What is different about this lawsuit, said Stephen H. Legomsky, a professor of immigration law at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, is that it “shines a light on the victim,” he said, whereas the focus had mostly been on immigrants committing fraud to obtain a benefit.

They wouldn’t be victims if they weren’t in the United States illegally.

Despite All Those ‘Climate Change’ (scam) Pledges In Paris, CO2 Hits New “Milestone”

And April was rather cool in the Northern hemisphere

(CNN) Carbon dioxide (CO2), the No. 1 greenhouse gas leading to man-made global warming, has reached a dubious new milestone.

The level of the gas in the atmosphere, which is measured by instruments on top of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa Observatory, topped 410 parts per million (ppm) for the month of April.

This is the highest concentration of the heat-trapping gas ever recorded at the Observatory, where direct measurements have been taking place for more than 60 years, giving us the longest detailed record.

Passing 410 ppm “is important because it punctuates another milestone in the upwards march of CO2,” according to Ralph Keeling, head of the Scripps CO2 program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California.

“At the recent pace, we’ll hit 450 ppm in a mere 16 years, and 500 ppm 20 years after that. That’s well within dangerous territory for the climate system,” Keeling added.

Wait, I thought 350 ppm was the doom number? No? And if it hits 450 ppm, and there is no doom, they’ll just move the number. Just like when they told us 400 ppm was doom.

The Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, which President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of in 2017, set out a global action plant to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and hopefully keep the global average temperature below two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) over pre-industrial levels.

In reality, most of the Paris signaturies aren’t doing a whole lot, just taxing citizens and giving some of the money to other nations.

Oh, and just because I ran across this bit of insanity

Yikes.

California Democrat Recommends Banning “Assault Rifles”, Forced Confiscation

Remember, Democrats tell us that they don’t want to take away anyone’s guns, they just want to make it harder for criminals. Right up till you get Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California’s San Francisco Bay area, who’s co-chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence let’s the cat out of the bag

Eric Swalwell Unloads Gun Platform Liberals Really Want

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California wants to ban assault weapons, instate a federal gun buy back program for those who own semiautomatic weapons and criminally prosecute those who refuse to hand them over.

The representative wrote an op-ed in USA Today Thursday rolling out what he feels is the gun control policy America should adopt, one that would take weapons away from law-abiding citizens and threatens them with jail time if they refuse.

“Reinstating the federal assault weapons ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 would prohibit manufacture and sales, but it would not affect weapons already possessed. This would leave millions of assault weapons in our communities for decades to come,” Swalwell wrote. “Instead, we should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons.”

It’s similar to the Australian solution, which Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama talking about a bit. It didn’t help Hillary. And Swalwell mentions Australia later in the article. But, hey, what about the 2nd Amendment?

There’s something new and different about the surviving Parkland high schoolers’ demands. They dismiss the moral equivalence we’ve made for far too long regarding the Second Amendment. I’ve been guilty of it myself, telling constituents and reporters that “we can protect the Second Amendment and protect lives.”

In context, he’s blowing off his oath of office and making a case of “screw the Constitution, we have to Do Something!”

If this ever was passed in Congress, you know the next thing Democrats would do would be to do the same thing for other firearms. They’ll say that other rifles are dangerous, because they essentially do the same thing as the scary looking weapons. Then higher power handguns.

But, anyway, good luck, Swalwell, when almost no one turns in their rifles, and there’s video of federal forces coming after tiny women who have the rifles for self-protection. You can bet a lot of law enforcement will refuse to participate in confiscation.

‘Climate Change’ (scam) Scientists Flee To France Or Something

Good. Go live on their public money for your shoddy science

U.S. Climate Scientists Flee For France To ‘Make Our Planet Great Again’

Fourteen climate researchers, including six from U.S. universities, have been selected for French President Emmanuel Macron’s “Make Our Planet Great Again” initiative. The scientists applied to move to France to carry out climate science projects in the country’s top research laboratories.

The selected researchers include some of America’s brightest scientific talents: Alexey Fedorov, a Yale professor and Guggenheim fellow, and James Clark, a Duke University climate expert, according to a press release Wednesday from France’s Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Researchers hailing from universities in several other countries, including Canada and Saudi Arabia, also were selected.

So, not actually fleeing, just taking an offer along with some people from other countries. Huh. And Warmists, and the media, wonder why no one trusts them.

Speaking for France

Climate change aid to poor nations lags behind Paris pledges
Donor nations’ 2020 target of $100bn annual fund for adapting economies falls short by near 50% says Oxfam

It’s like they don’t want to part with their own money.

You’re Burger Habit Is Going To Maybe Possibly Cause A Temperature Roller Coaster

You’re killing us, dude, for refusing to stop eating meat

A Temperature Roller Coaster Could Be Coming

New research suggests that global warming could cause temperature swings to get unusually extreme. And the regions where the biggest swings will occur are among the poorest in the world — and the least responsible for the greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.

Climate scientists already know that as the planet warms, there’s a bigger chance of extreme weather: bigger hurricanes, for example, or heavier rainfall.

But a temperature roller coaster could be on the way as well, according to the study, which appears in the journal Science Advances.

Sebastian Bathiany at Wageningen University in the Netherlands says his calculations indicate that variations in temperature will increase — the normal swings between high and low temperatures will get wider. The variations aren’t apparent yet but will be in coming decades, Bathiany says.

So, greenhouse gases are going to make things hotter and colder! Maybe. Possibly, They think. Their computer models tell them this might happen. In the future. So, you need to pay a carbon tax.

This won’t happen everywhere, because different conditions affect temperature in different parts of the world. In the tropics, soil moisture plays a big role in moderating or “buffering” temperature swings, according to Bathiany. It’s kind of like the so-called Goldilocks effect — moisture keeps temperatures somewhere in between very hot and very cold.

What this means is that they’ve created the conditions where they can blame any and all weather on ‘climate change’ from greenhouse gases by saying “we told you these things would happen in some places but not others.” But if it doesn’t happen in one place, that is totally consistent with their computer models, too. Everything is Proof. Basically, if it happens, it’s your fault.

Illegal Alien Supporting Jerry Brown Not Of Fan Of People Entering His Home

Interestingly, Brown is also a big fan of security for his casa

Homeless man breaks into California governor’s residence, says he’s an ‘open-door policy kind of guy’

A homeless man who was arrested last month after breaking into California Gov. Jerry Brown’s home in Sacramento reportedly said he only tried entering the mansion because he figured the sanctuary state politician was “an open-door policy kind of guy.”

The California Highway Patrol said 51-year-old Steven Seeley was arrested April 19 and treated at a hospital for cuts he received while breaking a window to get out of the home in downtown Sacramento, located about 10 blocks from the Capitol.

In an interview with KCRA-TV on Sunday, Seeley claimed he heard what sounded like a large cat roaring nearby, and ran in to an unlocked side door.

“He’s an open-door policy kind of guy, so I figured the door would be unlocked, or else I wouldn’t have ran over there if I thought the door would be locked,” Seeley told KCRA.

He just wanted sanctuary because he was worried his life was in danger, just like all the illegal aliens claim, right? He also claims he has no mental issues, but, uses meth on a daily basis. But, hey, lots of illegal aliens have problems, right?

CHP spokeswoman Fran Clader told the Associated Press that Brown was not home at the time, but California First Lady Anne Gust Brown was upstairs. She didn’t have any contact with Seeley, according to Clader.

Clader told the Bee the property is monitored and there is “a robust on-site security presence at the residence 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

“The safety of the first family continues to be our top priority and enhanced security measures remain in place,” she said.

But, the illegal alien supporters do not want the same for our borders. Seeley is being charged with trespassing and violating parole….interesting, illegal aliens supporters also do not want those who have been deported and come back illegally to be deported. Seriously, isn’t California a sanctuary state? Shouldn’t Seeley have just been allowed to live at the Gov’s mansion?

Washington Post Finally Finds Way To Dismiss Iran Deal Revelations

Exactly what does America get out of the Iran deal? Sure, there are a few things, like not having to go to war and stopping Iran (on paper) from developing nuclear weapons for a time, which are both issues created because Iran is run by despicable people. A few companies, such as Boeing, get to sell some products to Iran. It gave Obama and Kerry something to say for a legacy. But, how does it benefit America as a nation? Had there been a true measure to ban all nuclear weapons for all time for Iran, then it would be worth it. But, anyhow, the Washington Post Editorial Board will always find a way to back Obama and America’s enemies over Israel and America

Netanyahu’s revelations aren’t enough to justify ripping up the Iran nuclear agreement

AS PRESIDENT Trump approaches his May 12 deadline for deciding whether to abrogate the Iran nuclear deal, allies are lining up to lobby him — something our attention-craving president no doubt is savoring. Last week the French and German leaders trekked to the White House to make their pro-pact cases; now, via televised address, comes Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, one of the accord’s most determined opponents. Mr. Netanyahu had something unique to offer: a trove of Iranian documents outlining work on nuclear arms, pilfered by the Mossad from a Tehran warehouse in January. What he didn’t have was a coherent case for why the deal should be scrapped.

It being based on lies is apparently not a reason. Here’s where it gets interesting

Mr. Netanyahu argued that Iran violated the deal by lying to the IAEA about its previous pursuit of a weapon. But that, too, was well known. The real purpose of the pact was to curb Tehran’s future activity, at least for a decade or so. Multiple IAEA reports and even the Trump administration have confirmed that, on that score, Iran has complied. That’s why Mr. Netanyahu’s own top national security officials support the agreement; the Israeli army’s chief of staff recently said , “Right now, the agreement, with all its flaws, is working and putting off realization of the Iranian nuclear vision by 10 to 15 years.” (snip)

Mr. Trump has been coy about his intentions, allowing suspense to build, but he seems strongly inclined to withdraw from the accord. It’s not clear he has studied the merits of doing so, or the possible consequences; on Monday he grossly misstated the terms of the deal, saying that, under it, “in seven years . . . Iran is free to go ahead and develop nuclear weapons.” (In fact, Iran is permanently banned from developing nukes.) Mr. Trump has frequently said he does not want the United States to fight more Middle East wars. If so, it would be in his interest to look beyond Mr. Netanyahu’s video appeals before making a final decision.

Which is it? There are various sunset provisions

Several of the key limitations on uranium-enrichment activities phase out between 10 and 15 years after implementation of the accord, which occurred in January 2016. For instance, starting in January 2026, Iran is free to enrich uranium using advanced centrifuges and install and operate a greater number of first-generation IR-1 centrifuges. Currently, Iran is restricted to using 5,060 IR-1 machines to enrich uranium. In January 2031, the 300-kilogram limit on Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium will expire, and Iran will be permitted to enrich uranium to levels greater than 3.67 percent uranium-235.

The expiration of these limits will shorten Iran’s potential breakout time, the time it would take to produce enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon, to less than the current 12 months. Yet, additional barriers remain in place—some will expire subsequently, others are permanent—that are intended to prevent or deter Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons.

Some of those are demands for inspection. Well, we already know Iran is playing games with secret sites, and some sites were excluded from inspection. They couldn’t possibly be doing anything there, right? But, what about

The reason is the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). This treaty prohibits Iran and all other non-nuclear weapons states from ever developing nuclear weapons. Iran and the United States along with nearly all other nations in the world (except Israel, India, Pakistan, North Korea and South Sudan) are signatories. Critics claim that the JCPOA is not a “real” treaty because Congress did not ratify it. By contrast, the NPT is indeed a real treaty, ratified by the United States Congress in 1969, having gone into effect in 1970.

Iran signed it in 1970, and, yet, they were actually doing the work to develop nuclear weapons. But, hey, they would never cheat on it again, because Obama told them not too, right? The Islamist nation of Iran is totally above board in everything, totally trustworthy.

So, since the deal was signed, Iran was given billions of dollars by Obama, they’re getting all sorts of treasury enriching cash from nations and companies since the sanctions were removed, they’ve gotten even friskier in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is considering their own nuclear weapons program due to their concern over the sunset provisions and Iran being big, fat liars. Iran has seemingly become more entrenched in their hard lines, when we were told that the moderates would come out of the woodwork and take over. Things have essentially gotten a lot worse in the Middle East with the Iran deal in place.

There are cases to be made for and against keeping this bad deal. The WPEB is making a bad one, based on wanting Obama to keep his legacy (which will be interesting when Iran suddenly says “hey, we have nuclear weapons” in the future) and hating Israel.

Surprise: Enviro-Weenies Protest Clean Power Project

I’ve said it before and I’ll say…ok, write…it again: the greenie weenies are great with alternative energy in principle, but not in action

(Daily Caller) Environmentalists in New England are voicing concern over a proposal that would provide an abundance of clean hydropower, hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue every year.

Charlie Baker, the moderate Republican governor of Massachusetts, has worked relentlessly to reduce his state’s carbon footprint and is now looking to Canada for renewable energy sourced from a series of dams. The environmentally-friendly governor is in negotiations to obtain a large swath of electricity from Hydro-Québec, a province-owned energy company that generates all of its electricity from its colossal system of 63 hydroelectric power stations.

If completed, the arrangement would power 1.2 million homes with 1,200 megawatts of low emission hydropower and reduce overall energy costs. Additionally, it would generate an estimated $18 million in annual property tax revenue and create 1,700 new jobs during its construction phase.

What has the greenie weenies with their panties in a wad?

Environmentalists, however, are still questioning the project.

To get Hydro-Quebec’s electricity to Massachusetts, Central Maine Power will need to construct a 150-wide path through New England and need 1,000 support structures. Some conservationists are opposing any sort of development in the region’s forests and surmising that the project will not even reduce carbon emissions.

It’s like they think the power will magically appear from the power station to the consumers. This same thing has happened many times before, where, if they can get the “green” energy facility (wind, solar, hydro) built, the GWs complain and even sue to block running transmission lines. They always have some excuse to protest and sue.

Of course, many of them are cool with tons of giant wind turbines despoiling the countryside when they aren’t actually near themselves.
