‘Climate Change’ Could Be Making Arctic Wolf Spiders Bigger

I’d be willing to pay a tax to stop this from happening. Creepy little buggers

Arctic Wolf Spiders Are Getting Bigger and It Could Slow Part of Climate Change

Spiders and snakes and bugs, oh my. The world is teeming with different kinds of critters, and there’s a phobia for anything you could possibly imagine. Arachnophobia, in particular, which is the extreme fear of spiders, seems especially common in the world. According to Merriam-Webster, arachnophobia is characterized as a “pathological fear or loathing of spiders.” Studies have found that exposure therapy as well as memory-disruption therapy have been most helpful in treating phobias like this.

Well, thanks to new studies on spiders released this week, there’s good news for the planet but some bad news for anyone who might be deathly afraid of spiders. According to National Geographic, stunning new calculations show that in the Arctic tundra, arctic wolf spiders outweigh arctic wolves in biomass by a ratio of 80 to 1. That’s right, when you think of white wolves roaming around and playing in the snow in the Arctic, that idyllic picture of the landscape is not totally accurate. What you should actually be thinking of is a bunch of snowy spiders spinning webs. These new calculations also show that, thanks to climate change, those eight-legged beasts are getting bigger.

In reality, none of the articles state how much bigger. Perhaps somewhere in the paper it does, but, I’m not finding it. They do seem to have a bit more mass, and there are more of the creepy little (venomous) hairy buggers. The warming in the Arctic, which they blame almost solely on Mankind’s output of greenhouse gases, has caused a change in the permafrost, giving the spiders new areas, and change their eating habits a bit, and changed the ecosphere. And we all know that everything was exactly the same during the previous 4.5 billion years prior to fossil fueled vehicles, eh?

A study from 2009 found that earlier springs and longer summers could increase the size of spiders and allow them to produce more offspring, a theory which might be proven to be correct by the PNAS study. But it’s not all terrifying news. Amanda Koltz, who conducted the PNAS study in the Arctic found that plots of land with more spiders had lower rates of decomposition, because areas with more spiders also had more populations of fungus-eating arthropods known as springtails, as reported by National Geographic. And because so many fungus-munching critters now exist in the Arctic, they’re lowering the rate of decomposition, meaning it’s keeping the ecosystem safe. Essentially, they’re helping to slow down climate change, if only a little bit.

So even if you hate them or experience arachnophobia yourself, the planet still owes a big thank you to spiders for helping us fight global warming, a little bit of permafrost at a time.

It’s almost like nature does stuff then has methods to deal with that stuff.

I’d still be willing to pay $10 a month just on tiny chance that mankind is responsible.

King County Council Chair Introduces Legislation On Gun Control, Goes After Law Abiding Citizens

Gun grabbers continuously inform us that they do not want to ban guns, they just want to make them safer. And, no, they do not always want to grab them with legislation, because that looks really bad politically. So, as usual, they’ll enact legislation that makes it more difficult for law abiding citizens to have a firearm for protection, rather than going after the criminal

Gun violence can be reduced, but cities and counties will have to lead

I’m heartbroken, and frankly, I’m angry. You probably are too.

Guns are used to kill men, women and children at tragic rates here in King County and across our nation. Yet our national and state leaders continue to sit on their hands and do nothing. It’s unconscionable.

This comes from Joe McDermott, chair of the Metropolitan King County Council and a member of the King County Board of Health. Perhaps he missed that murder and attempted murder are still illegal, yet people still commit those crimes. And that it’s mostly not lawful gun owners who use firearms to commit crimes, but, hey, if they went after criminals, they might be called racists and such, told that they are violating the Constitution by their Leftwing constituents, because they seem to have a soft spot for criminals.

That’s why on Tuesday, I’m introducing three pieces of legislation to ensure King County is doing its part to help stop these tragedies.

We’re calling it the King County Gun Safety Action Plan. In my role as Metropolitan King County Council chair and a member of the King County Board of Health, I’m kicking off this effort by introducing these initiatives that have the potential to save lives.

First, I propose that public safety warning signs be posted at any place of firearm sale or discharge in King County, which will articulate the very real and significant risks to health and life inherent with firearm ownership. These signs will also provide immediate contact information for suicide-prevention and mental-health resources for individuals who might be in crisis. Once passed by the Board of Health, signs will be placed at the entrances and purchase counters of every shooting range and store selling guns in King County.

The same people have meltdowns over any sort of requirements that abortion providers have the same medical standards as a veterinarian office. And, while the part about suicide is helpful, the signs are going to end up with holes in them. The second part is the most concerning

I also propose a county ordinance requiring firearm owners to securely store their guns at all times — whether at home, in a car or anywhere else. Gun ownership is a significant responsibility. And ensuring that your gun doesn’t end up in the hands of someone who shouldn’t have it — a child, someone in a moment of crisis or domestic abuse — is the least that we should require.

It is a cynical and dangerous twist of logic that the NRA, which promotes responsible gun ownership, is suing Seattle for its recent safe-storage law. The fact is that 43 percent of King County gun owners admit to storing their firearms unlocked. We cannot wait to enact this basic, common sense requirement.

Read that again in bold. At all times. At home, car, or anywhere else. This seems to suggest that even if you are carrying a firearm openly or concealed, it has to be secured. If you’re carrying a rifle or shotgun while hunting it must be secured. What, exactly, would be the point of carrying the weapon if you must have a trigger lock on it?

The draft legislation has not been released in full, but the website for these “make it harder for law abiding citizens” gun grabbers and news articles state that “All gun owners would be required to securely store their firearms and ammunition at all times on all premises.” This would make firearms for self defense at home and out in public worthless.

Is it any wonder that the NRA and gun groups are suing?

The third proposal, when you read between the lines at the article, seems to be a way to indoctrinate kids to be anti-gun. The gun grabbers website also notes that one of the things they want to do if the state preemption law is repealed would be to “Ban semi-automatic, high velocity weapons: Ban the sale and possession of semi-automatic, high velocity weapons.” There’s no definition of that, so, would that include a 9mm handgun? What about a .22? I purchase standard Winchester ammo for my Walther P22, which will fire at around 818mph. The speed of sound is around 761mph. Would that make my P22 a high velocity weapon?

And criminals won’t give up their weapons. This just makes criminals of people who lawfully purchased a firearm.

Climahypocrite Launches New Feminist Fight Against Hotcoldwetdry

Let’s give it up to Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, big shot member of the United Nations, who runs all around the world on fossil fueled vehicles, as she does this which is about something something

Mary Robinson launches new feminist fight against climate change

Women around the world who are leading the fight against climate damage are to be highlighted by Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and UN high commissioner, in the hopes of building a new global movement that will create “a feminist solution for climate change”.

Perhaps more revolutionary still, the new initiative is light-hearted in tone, optimistic in outlook and presents positive stories in what the originators hope will be seen as a fun way.

Called Mothers of Invention, the initiative will kick off with a series of podcasts showcasing the work of grassroots climate activists at a local level, as well as globally resonant initiatives such as the legal challenges under way in numerous jurisdictions to force governments to adhere to the Paris agreement goals. Scientists and politicians feature alongside farmers and indigenous community leaders from Europe, the US and Australia to India, Kenya, South Africa and Peru.

So, what, exactly, are they going to be doing, and what makes them “feminist”?

“Climate change is a manmade problem that requires a feminist solution,” she said ahead of the podcast launch. “What we are hoping to do is create a movement. Climate change is not gender-neutral – it affects women far more. So this is not about climate change, it is about climate justice.”

The movement, she added, would grow organically from the women who feature and the women who join in: “It will be happening in an unstructured way, which is all the better, because we are not prescribing what a feminist solution should look like, we are listening – we want women to tell us what they want. That to me is more interesting.”

Huh? So, she wants women, who can’t decide what to eat or what to wear, to come up with solutions? And, by organic, she means directed by progressive Cult of Climastrology big wigs. At some point, I’m wondering if they are going to offer solutions, and change their lives to match their beliefs. Because the story doesn’t really offer anything but some yammering, calls for Other People to pay the price, and

The series will bring in issues of colonialism, racism, poverty, migration and social justice and how these are bound up with feminism and the effects of climate change, and will include related environmental issues such as plastic pollution.

In other words, this is all just left wing social justice warrior whining and Victimhood, using ‘climate change’ as an excuse. Same old bullshit.

Global Warming Causing More People To Kill Themselves Or Something

Since it’s summer, meaning it’s hot outside, the Cult of Climastrology often switches to the old phrase to push their insane cultology

Global warming is making more people kill themselves: study

Global warming is leading more people to commit suicide, a new study says.

Stanford University scientists say they have identified a connection between climate change and mental health, suggesting that abnormally hot temps prompt more suicides.

If trends persist, there could be an additional 21,000 deaths in the US and Mexico alone over the next three decades, according to their study, which was published in Nature Climate Change on Monday.

“When talking about climate change, it’s often easy to think in abstractions,” wrote lead researcher Marshall Burke. “But the thousands of additional suicides that are likely to occur as a result of unmitigated climate change are not just a number, they represent tragic losses for families across the country.”

How did they arrive at this conclusion?

The study compared suicide rates in abnormally hot months with those in months with average temperatures. Burke and his colleagues looked at five decades of suicides and the temperature when each death took place.

First, there’s no such thing as an abnormally hot month. Second, they apparently do not understand how averages are calculated. If one month has an average of 72F, another 94, and another is 87, we get an average of 84.333, right? So, the Warmists then say the average should be 84, and anything higher means utter complete (maybe possibly we think, give us more money and we’ll study it more) doom.

We can fix this with a tax, though.

Liberals Are Super Psyched To Taunt Trump With Four Baby Trump Balloons

Serious question: should people who act in such a juvenile manner be allowed to vote? Because they’re obviously not mature enough to make serious decisions

Four ‘Baby Trumps’ are ready to taunt the President at Bedminster. Will the FAA let them ‘fly’?

The massive ‘Baby Trump’ balloon that gained global fame photo-bombing the London skyline during President Trump’s visit to the U.K could soon be headed to Bedminster, thanks to a group of Democratic activists who hope to taunt the President whenever he stays at any of his golf courses.

But there’s still one problem that might put Baby Trump in a corner: Some rather obscure FAA regulations on dirigible airships.

“There’s no local ordinance preventing us from doing it,” said Jim Girvan a retired Somerset county worker who’s now a Democratic activist with the Branchburg Democrats. “But obviously he adds a different element to the calculation.”

“He” of course, is the non-inflatable President, and both the U.S. Secret Service and Federal Aviation Administration have strict rules about what can and cannot enter the FAA’s Temporary Flight Restriction area that surrounds him.

The upshot is, as long as they are tethered to the ground and have the ability to quickly deflate if they come loose, then they should be OK.

“I guess we’ll have to find that out,” said Girvan. “We’re still negotiating with the U.K. group to get their permission to manufacture it here. I don’t know anything about helium balloons; it might very well be a standard piece of equipment.”

Knows nothing about helium balloons. Well, this sounds safe

Instead of simply having the Trump Baby shipped over from the U.K. Girvan explained he plans to use their blueprints and design molds and have them built by an American manufacturer, to avoid any accusations of foreign interlopers meddling in U.S. elections.

In the comments, NJProfessor makes an interesting point

Hopefully, no, they will not allow it to fly. For 8 years, all we heard were cries of respecting the office, even if we didn’t respect the man. Odd how that position has changed, now that a Democrat is no longer in office. I honestly can’t believe that anyone with a shred of character and integrity would promote this type of stunt. I detested Obama, but I never would have considered any type of degrading stunt. There are better uses for the money and energy. Think of how many people in a homeless shelter it could feed. Or, in Democratic terms, the number of illegal immigrants it could support.

Good point. So far, I don’t remember Trump doing something truly bad like having a gun running scheme which lost around 2,500 guns, which ended up injuring and killing hundreds of people, including Mexican children and two U.S. federal agents, and even showed up in Paris after a terrorist attack. When Trump is behind something like that, let me know, Demochildren.

Bummer: Deportations Taking A Toll On “Blended Families”

This has the Associated Press’ Matt Sedensky Very Concerned, and this is yet another attempt to elicit Feelings for all those poor illegal aliens who never did anything wrong and were just looking for a better life and why are we so mean and think of the children and stuff

What, exactly, did she think was going to happen? Trump was pretty clear about his intentions for illegal aliens. From the article

It’s almost as if Letty Stegall is there, back home in the United States, beside her daughter to prod her awake for school. When her husband goes to the grocery store, she fusses over the list with him. At the bar she helped run, she still gives regulars a warm welcome, and around the dinner table at night, she beams when she sees what her family managed to cook.

But Stegall’s face only appears on a screen, and her words come in unreliable cell connections and a barrage of texts. Lives once lived together are divided by some 1,600 miles. A woman who married an American and gave birth to an American and who came to think of herself as American, too, is now deported to her native Mexico.

“I wish I was there. That’s all that I want,” she says of her life in Kansas City, Missouri. “I want my family back.”

As the United States takes a harder line on immigration, thousands who called the country home are being forced to go. Often, they leave behind spouses and children with American citizenship and must figure out how to go on with families fractured apart. Studies have found an estimated 8 million to 9 million Americans — the majority of them children — live with at least one relative who is in the country illegally, and so each action to deport an immigrant is just as likely to entangle a citizen or legal U.S. resident.

Sniffle. She’s now “living in a foreign world”, a place she hasn’t lived for decades, and Skyping and stuff with her family. Sniffle. And

“I lost everything,” she says. “It’s just me.”

I wonder who’s fault that is?

Stegall grew up two hours from here in Cosamaloapan, a flat, crop-dotted part of Veracruz, the state that hugs a broad chunk of Mexico’s eastern coast. Her parents’ furniture business afforded a comfortable existence, but drawn by the stories of a cousin who settled in Overland Park, Kansas, Stegall was convinced there was greater opportunity for her in the U.S. She paid a smuggler $3,000 to lead her across the Rio Grande.

She was caught and returned to Mexico but crossed successfully a day later. When she made it to the Kansas City area, she found a job busing tables, working her way up through a string of restaurants to become a server and bartender and manager.

She got married and had Jennifer, but later divorced. Then she fell in love with Steve, who came to see Jennifer as his own. Stegall mastered the language and watched her paychecks grow. She and Steve bought a home, and soon Stegall became the heart of The Blue Line , the bar they ran together. When the Olympics aired, she’d drape herself in red, white and blue, and when the national anthem sounded, she’d nudge her husband to remove his hat as she stood solemnly, goose bumps covering her body.

So, right there, she’s committed at least one felony, recrossing into the United States after being deported. How was she working? She obtained a work permit and social security number via what appears to be a sham marriage, but, that conveyed no right to stay. She was busted for DUI six years ago, putting her on the radar of immigration authorities. But, she’s bummed

She wonders why the government’s crackdown efforts seem to focus on her and other low-level criminals instead of the “bad hombres” that Trump said he’d banish. Don’t her daughter and husband have a right to keep their family intact? Don’t her years of paying taxes, of learning English, of living an otherwise pristine life count for anything?

It’s simple: they’re going after all of the illegals. The priority is still on the serious criminals, but, people are penalized and even go to prison all the time for minor crimes, because they were dumb enough to get caught. This is the line that illegals and their supporters are taking “well, we know we committed a crime, but, you should not bother with us.”

It goes on and on and on, but, the central point is missed: this is all her fault. She made choices. The blame rests on her shoulders. She could have done the right thing, the legal thing, and chose not to.

But, we should thank her, Matt Sedensky, and the AP for making this article available, because these types of stories help decrease the amount of people who would come illegally.

New Democrat Hotness: Checks And Balances

Because a phone and pen from 2009-2016 is now old and busted

From the screed

Democrats have a new slogan for the midterms: “For the People.”

I hate it. It’s one of those slogans that tries to mean everything and therefore means nothing. Sort of like the previous slogan, “A Better Deal” — another meaningless cliché that apparently proved inadequate to the task.

I’ve got a better one: “Support Checks and Balances. Elect Democrats”

After all, you can turn on any news channel and witness the charade. Republicans in Congress are bending over backward and upside down and sideways to figure out how to excuse away the inexcusable — siding with a foreign enemy when all intelligence experts are screaming that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and plans to again in the 2018 election.

This is from the same party which supported Obama doing everything via the ever expanding powers of the Executive Office. Who signed on to the Paris Climate Agreement and the Iran Deal in a manner that precluded the Senate from having to vote on them. Who rammed through things like the Waters Of The US, Clean Power Plan, forcing schools to accommodate the gender confused mental cases, and so much more. Suddenly, Democrats do not like POTUS to have power, even when it is within their Constitutional duties, rather than mission creep. And they sure do not like Trump getting rid of the garbage Obama manufactured.

American democracy is a separation-of-powers system, in which Congress and the presidency are independent branches, but Congress has many more powers. The problem with separation of powers in practice is that it only works with divided government. The framers thought that by spreading power across independent branches of government, they would make it hard for parties to form, and institutional allegiances would triumph and balance each other. They were wrong.

Where was Vox and the Democrats when Obama was president and the GOP controlled Congress?

Capitalism Will Totally Solve ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

The Wall Street Journal has given Fred Krupp, president of the uber-far left Environmental Defense Fund, a platform to show that he has no idea what capitalism is

Capitalism Will Solve the Climate Problem
Skeptics try to deny the evidence of global warming, but businesses already are betting on clean energy.

Together, science and capitalism built the modern world. But across the political spectrum, both are under attack. If we are to solve our greatest challenges, including climate change, we have to deploy the power of these twin engines of civilization.

The best available research confirms the existence of human-driven climate change, including the rapid pace of global warming. Leading scientists’ predictions of temperature rise have been largely accurate. In the three decades since NASA climate scientist James Hansen first warned Congress that global warming had begun, the U.S. and other nations have poured billions of tons of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere, and the planet has continued to warm.

There’s no scientific method proof that it is mostly/solely caused by Mankind, and that fact that most Warmists refuse to give up their own use of fossil fuels and make their lives carbon neutral show that they themselves don’t really believe their own talking points. Further, Skeptics do not deny warming: we are debating causation.

Anyhow, let’s skip the polemic, and get to the end where Krupp explains capitalism

This brings us back to capitalism. Climate change is a byproduct of the prosperity created by the market economy, but the market similarly can be an engine to generate cost-effective solutions. Clean-energy technologies such as wind and solar power already have developed immensely in the past two decades. Public policy that puts a price on carbon emissions would speed the adoption of clean energy by exposing the market to the costs this pollution puts on society. This will accelerate adoption of and private investment in clean-energy technologies.

Though climate change presents American industries a daunting challenge, market-based policies can unleash innovation from investors, inventors and entrepreneurs, who will work to build a more prosperous and safer future. Working with accurate scientific facts and the right incentives, the market will find winning solutions.

So let’s follow the data and get this done.

If the government is instituting a tax in order to force the private sector to make changes, that’s not capitalism. If they’re dictating behavior, that’s not capitalism. They aren’t market based policies if the government is passing them.
