United Nations Wants “Unprecedented And Urgent Action” On ‘Climate Change’

We’re only a few days away from the start of COP24 in Katowice, Poland, as over ten thousand True Believers get set to take long fossil fueled trips from all over the world to discuss how they can make Other People change their lives to accord with the Cult of Climastrology beliefs. How they can implement more dominant government, tax the hell out of people, redistribute the fruits of Other People’s labor, and just be general nags. So, of course, they’re going down the doomsaying route

U.N. Urges ‘Unprecedented and Urgent Action’ to Stop Climate Change

In its “Emissions Gap Report 2018,” the United Nations (U.N.) declared Tuesday that total annual greenhouse gases emissions reached a record high in 2017 and that “more ambitious” measures are needed by 2020 to keep global warming below established goals.

Current national commitments “are inadequate to bridge the emissions gap in 2030,” the U.N. warned in its report. “Technically, it is still possible to bridge the gap to ensure global warming stays well below 2°C and 1.5°C,” but if global ambitions are not increased before 2030, exceeding the 1.5º C goal “can no longer be avoided.”

“Now more than ever, unprecedented and urgent action is required by all nations,” the report declared. “The assessment of actions by the G20 countries indicates that this is yet to happen; in fact, global CO2  emissions increased in 2017 after three years of stagnation.”

In its report, the United Nations suggested that the world is on the path to climate disaster if drastic measures are not implemented in the near future.

They want action action action from government. Perhaps they should be paying attention to the riots in France before they pimp their Usual Solution

As usual, the U.N. warnings come down to an appeal for dramatic action at the national level.

Countries need to “increase effectiveness of domestic policy to achieve the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement,” the report states. “To bridge the 2030 emissions gap and ensure long-term decarbonization consistent with the Paris Agreement goals, countries must enhance their mitigation ambition.”

In the end, the United Nations Organization is looking for funding, and they appeal to nations to establish substantial taxation to penalize citizens for the use of inexpensive fossil fuels.

“Fiscal policy reform can play a key role in creating strong incentives for low-carbon investments and reducing GHG emissions,” the reports states. “Revenues from carbon pricing can be used for reducing other taxes, increase spending on social issues and/or compensating low-income households.”

Surprise? But, hey, how’s that working in France? The protesting, which does include some violence and especially burning things, which always seems to be popular in France (but usually starts from illegal aliens from the Middle East and northern Africa) continues, and it may be spreading soon to Germany, as citizens are tired of the high cost of fuels, which raises their cost of living, and continues to go up up up.

It’d be interesting if just one a major left leaning outlet would note the utter hypocrisy of people taking fossil fueled trips to complain about fossil fuels and demand more and more taxation on them.

Vox: You Know The Violence At The Border Is Trump’s Fault, Right?

See, if Trump hadn’t blocked all these mostly male age 45 and under looking for work and not seeking asylum women and children from being allowed entry into the U.S. there wouldn’t be any violence at the border, per Voxsplainer Dara Lind

The US has made migrants at the border wait months to apply for asylum. Now the dam is breaking.
By limiting the number of asylum-seekers allowed to come legally, Trump made his own immigration crisis.

The center of the American asylum crisis is the El Chaparral plaza in Tijuana, which sits at the foot of the western pedestrian bridge to enter the US at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in California.

On Sunday, members of the migrant “caravan,” after a week of waiting in makeshift Tijuana shelters under poor conditions, marched up to the US side of the border to demand that the US admit them to seek asylum.

At the plaza at El Chaparral, Mexican federal police in riot formation blocked the marchers from going any farther toward the bridge. Then the march descended into chaos. Hundreds of marchers evaded and scuffled with Mexican police in an attempt to cross the border en masse. Some of the marchers threw rocks at Border Patrol agents. Agents fired off volleys of tear gas at the crowd, which included families and children.

It was nearly inevitable that tensions at the border would boil over, and that they would do so at El Chaparral. For months, it has been the unofficial “waiting room” of the United States.

At San Ysidro and many of the other official crossings that line the US-Mexico border, families who have traveled thousands of miles, fleeing poverty and violence to seek asylum in the United States, have been stopped outside ports of entry before they can set foot on US soil and trigger their legal asylum rights.

Before 2016, and in some cases as recently as six months ago, they would have had no problem and no delay. But for the last several months, the Trump administration has made a practice of limiting the number of asylum seekers allowed to enter the US each day — a policy it calls “metering.” It’s the counterpart of the Trump administration’s months-long crackdown on asylum seekers entering the US illegally — telling those who do try to come legally that there’s no room for them, and ordering them to wait.

See? It is All Trump’s Fault. If only he had spent the primaries and general election saying he would be tough on illegal immigration. If only he had spent all that time saying he wanted a full physical barrier across the US-Mexico border. If only he had said the same after he was elected. If only he had cracked down on those unlawfully present in the U.S. If only he had said months and months ago and repeated it ad nauseum for the migrant caravans to not come.

None of these migrants were invited. Most are men. Mexico offered them asylum…and shelter, medical attention, schooling, and jobs. We have no idea how many are criminals. If they want asylum, they can make the claim at a port of entry, and, if approved, they’ll be allowed to enter. But most do not want asylum. But, you know that in Liberal World everything is Trump’s Fault.

Oh, and

Young Canadians Launch ‘Climate Change’ Suit To Force Government To Do Something

Do they have any idea that the money will be coming out of their own pockets?

Quebec environmentalists launch climate change lawsuit against Ottawa

A group of young Quebecers is going to court claiming their fundamental rights have been violated as a result of federal government inaction on climate change.

The group Environnement Jeunesse announced today it is seeking authorization of a class action lawsuit against Ottawa on behalf of all Quebecers aged 35 and under.

The people behind the action say their generation will suffer the worst effects of climate change, depriving them of their right to a healthy environment.

A lawyer for the group says the Canadian government’s behaviour infringes on rights protected by the provincial and federal charters of rights.

They will seek $100 per person and ask that instead of individual cheques, the total go towards funding measures to slow down climate change.

It might be easier to simply ask all Canadians under the age of 36 to pony up $100 each and see who wants to put their money where their mouths are. Because, if they win the suit, the money is coming straight out of their own pockets. Do they think the government magically makes money?

Interestingly, these same youths will be attending the upcoming COP24 in Poland. Will they be walking to the ocean, taking a sailing boat, then walking or biking to the conference? Or taking a long fossil fueled flight?

This is no grassroots organization. It is a big, well organized and well funded group that’s been around since 1979.

Washington’s Newest Gun Control Initiative Is Just A Step Towards Getting Rid Of Privately Owned Firearms

Washington’s Initiative 1639 is all about strongarming citizens into giving up their 2nd Amendment Right

Using gun safes under Washington’s newest gun control regulation

When Initiative 1639 goes into effect, gun owners can be charged with a crime if their firearms end up in the wrong hands. That has a lot of gun owners asking about their options. What about gun safes?

The initiative was approved by about 60 percent of Washington voters this November. It is already facing legal challenges and one Washington police chief refuses to enforce it.

But other arguments have emerged around the issue of gun safes — one method of keeping firearms secure. I-1639 does address safe storage of firearms. It holds gun owners accountable if their deadly weapon gets into the wrong hands and is used in a crime.

The article goes on to describe the different types of safes one can use to store your firearm. A firearm locked in a safe is one that cannot be used to protect oneself nor one’s family. A quick explanation of I1639

Enter I-1639, a measure that represents the most sweeping, comprehensive gun control legislation in any state. It will enact waiting periods and background checks on the purchase of semiautomatic weapons, an increase to the minimum age for purchasing semiautomatic weapons from 18 to 21, storage requirements for firearms, and a class-C felony for any gun owner whose firearm is used by an unlicensed party.

So, if your gun is stolen and used in a crime, you’re going to jail. What this really does is force citizens with firearms to either store firearms used for self defense in a safe all the time, making them worthless for their purpose.  Or just get rid of them.

Now, if you’re an idiot and just leaving your gun in the glovebox, under the seat, etc, while you walk away from your vehicle, OK, fine, that is not a proper way to leave a firearm. It’s not a toy. You should lock it up. Keep a special safe in your vehicle. But, you leave it in your nightstand or on a top shelf in the closet for a reason. Regardless, this is stealth gun grabbing

Initiative I-1639 is an important step in the right direction

Initiative 1639 has passed in Washington State, which is a step in the right direction for gun control. However, with the current political climate, it is time to stop thinking of guns as a fundamental freedom and see them as they are: lethal, volatile weapons that need to be out of the hands of as many Americans as possible.

In other words, getting creative to force people to give up their firearms. And this is just the first step towards a total gun ban for private citizens, leaving Government with the guns. Be careful what you wish for, gun grabbers.

The same state also has no problem protecting illegal aliens, including those who commit crimes.

Washington Post: Free Market Republicans Should Totally Want A Carbon Tax Or Something

There are obviously lots and lots of thinly veiled opinion pieces and stated opinion pieces running through the news with last Friday’s release of a ‘climate change’ study. It’s a yearly thing, as at least one Big Study is released shortly before the late November/early December UN IPCC Conference On the Parties meeting. The NY Times has multiple pieces, including Paul Krugman is yammering about the “depravity of climate change denial.” Hmm. In my opinion, if you haven’t given up your own use of fossil fuels but say you believe in anthropogenic climate change, then you’re actually a denier

The Washington Post has multiple pieces, including the Editorial Board of a paper which uses vast amounts of fossil fuels and has a big carbon footprint for their news operations, stating that future Americans won’t forget Trump and the GOP’s climate negligence. And then we come to Catherine Rampell pimping one of my favorites, the notion that carbon taxes are totes free market

Republicans say they want free-market innovation. Then they should want a carbon tax.

(lots of paragraphs of doom and gloom and what she calls “Republican excuse making”)

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) also acknowledged that “the burning of fossil fuels” isn’t the “healthiest for Planet Earth.” Asked if he supported a carbon tax, though, he said no. The reason: “If we’re going to move away from fossil fuels, it’s got to be done through innovation. And innovation can be choked out through excessive government regulation.”

Here’s the thing. Taxing carbon is exactly how you get faster innovation. That’s kinda the point.

A carbon tax prices in, upfront, the hidden costs of burning fossil fuels, including pollution and the warming of the planet. In the near-term, a carbon tax disincentivizes the purchase of carbon-intensive products, of course. But over the longer-term, it also increases demand for — and thereby incentivizes the development of — cleaner, less-carbon-intensive technologies. If you want to accelerate innovation in batteries, electric cars, solar, wind, etc., a carbon tax is a no-brainer.

See? A carbon tax is totally free market! And it has nothing to do with Government trying to harm one sector while helping another!

Additionally, if Republicans truly want to walk the walk on reducing “excessive government regulation,” there’s plenty for them to do. There are tons of regulations and subsidies that  encourage use of fossil fuels — and slow down innovation in greener technologies.

There are, for instance, the enormous tax breaks and other subsidies for oil and coal. Or Trump’s proposed bailouts for failing coal plants. Or his tariffs on solar panels.

Policymakers could also take action to crush the NIMBYism that impedes offshore wind farms. Or they could discourage or even preempt lots of other stupid state and local rules and regulations. These include building codes that inhibit solar, or the unstandardized, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction permitting process that makes installation more difficult.

All of which is to say that prioritizing innovation and the cutting of red tape are not actually an excuse for inaction on climate change. In fact, they’re key to the solution.

On one hand, she has a point: there are lots and lots of government rules and regulations at the federal, state, and local level that make things difficult for commerce. On the other, most of those tax breaks are the same ones other companies use. They aren’t specific for oil and coal. The tariffs are because China has been dumping cheap panels in the U.S. in order to undercut U.S. solar panel makers. Most of the wind farm NIMBYism comes from coastal elites who say they believe in man-caused climate change and vote Democrat.

Slapping massive federal regulations on states and municipalities doesn’t quite sound free market, does it? Nor does a government run carbon tax.

Narrative Fail: MSNBC Exposes That Migrants Are Mostly Male And Not Seeking Asylum

This is the kind of thing that the media were running with in regards to the migrants getting gassed for rushing the border and throwing rocks and other things

https://twitter.com/LisaMei62/status/1067031604781035520

A woman with two kids. Wonder if it was staged? And then this happened to MSNBC

MSNBC REPORTER BUSTS NARRATIVE, ADMITS MIGRANTS ARE MOSTLY MEN

MSNBC reporter Gadi Schwartz, who is on the ground in Tijuana, Mexico, said Monday that most of the caravan members he’s encountered are males — many of whom are not seeking asylum.

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle asked Schwartz to characterize the group of migrants he’s encountered, stating, “Some people look at these images and they listen to the president, who says, ‘It’s not women and children, it’s stone cold criminals.’”

“Give us the profile of who’s there mostly and what they’re looking for,” Ruhle added.

Schwartz explained that there are a lot of families “in the inner sanctum of the shelter,” but revealed that outside of the tent city there are scores of men trying to cross the border.

“The truth is, the majority of the people that are in this caravan, especially outside — if we can make our way all the way over there, we’ll show you the majority of them are men,” Schwartz said. “From what we’ve seen, the majority are actually men and some of these men have not articulated that need for asylum.”

Schwartz said that a lot of the men in the caravan have shared economic reasons for migrating or have expressed a desire for a “better life.”

But, MSNBC did not want to give up its Narrative

Despite Schwartz’s reporting, MSNBC anchor Katy Tur asked “how much lower” the U.S. can go and insisted border agents were throwing tear gas at primarily women and children.

“These are the images. A mom pulling her two daughters away from the tear gas,” Tur said. “The very people in charge are treating these people as an invading army, including these moms, including these kids.”

In other words, Tur was looking at the same photo (probably staged) that the rest of the media was running. And the mostly male migrants (reminds one of what was happening in Europe, where all these “refugees” were appearing and were mostly males 45 and under) were using the few women and children as shields.

And people wonder why Trump keeps calling them fake news?

Nutters Prognosticate U.K. Being 5 Degrees Celsius Warmer By 2070

Hey, why not? Virtually every one their predictions has failed to materialize, and most of the scientific community and the news media fail to call them out on it

Climate change to make UK summers more than 5C hotter by 2070, Met Office warns

Extreme heatwaves will scorch the UK as rising sea levels swallow large expanses of the coastline within just a few decades, experts have warned.

In the first major analysis of the nation’s changing climate for nearly a decade, government and Met Office scientists concluded that summer temperatures could shoot up by 5.4C by 2070 if fossil fuel pollution is not slashed.

Winters will also be considerably hotter, with average temperatures increasing by up to 4.2C.

The scientists outlined a far more extreme version of Britain’s climate in which this year’s weeks-long heatwave becomes the norm while winter rainfall increases by more than a third.

Flooding will also be a major issue as sea levels around the country rise, and coastal communities will have to adapt rapidly or abandon homes to the rising tides.

Sea levels affecting London could rise by up to 1.15 metres by 2100 if climate-warming emissions continue to climb.

Even if emissions are cut in line with the Paris climate agreement to curb temperature rises to well below 2C above pre-industrial levels, sea levels could still be up to 70cm higher in the capital by 2100.

First, 5.4C equals a 9.72 Fahrenheit increase in less than 50 years, when the Earth has only seen a reported 1.5F increase since 1850. They’re claiming that winters will be 7.56F hotter. This is beyond insane, and has zero basis in science nor reality.

A 1.5 meter increase is 4.92 feet. 70cm is 2.29 feet. Despite the 20th Century only having seen eight inches of sea rise, and there being zero acceleration in sea rise. It’s all about trying to scare people into giving up their money and freedom.

Oh, and

Nancy Pelosi Is Super Enthused To Restore Democracy!

Who wants to tell her and John Sarbanes, a Democrat, represents Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District, who cowrote this? Also, there are a few other things she needs to be told

The Democratic majority’s first order of business: Restore democracy

Earlier this month, Americans went to the polls and sent a powerful message: The election not only was a resounding verdict against Republicans’ assault on Americans’ health care and wages, but it also was a vote to rescue our broken democracy.

In the face of a torrent of special-interest dark money, partisan gerrymandering and devious vote-suppression schemes, voters elected a House Democratic majority determined to bring real change to restore our democracy.

During the campaign, Democrats declared unequivocally that we would clean up corruption to make Washington work for the people. We pledged to reduce the role of money in politics, to restore ethics and integrity to government, and to strengthen voting laws.

Really? Because a) the House switch very often happens during a president’s first term, and b) they didn’t run on this at all

Anyway, here are her ideas

First, let’s end the dominance of money in politics. For far too long, big-money and corporate special interests have undermined the will of the people and subverted policymaking in Washington — enabling soaring health-care costs and prescription drug prices, undermining clean air and clean water for our children, and blocking long-overdue wage increases for hard-working Americans.

So let’s rein in the unaccountable “dark money” unleashed by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision by requiring all political organizations to disclose their donors and by shutting down the shell game of big-money donations to super PACs. We must also empower hard-working Americans in our democracy by building a 21st-century campaign-finance system — combining small-donor incentives and matching support — to increase and multiply the power of small donors. Wealthy special interests shouldn’t be able to buy more influence than the workers, consumers and families who should be our priority in Washington.

Interesting, considering the huge amounts of cash Democrats receive from Hollywood, news media and other lefty industries, plus single donors like George Soros and Tom Steyer. Also interesting, Pelosi is recommending legislation that basically has already been declared unconstitutional.

Next, let’s make sure that when public servants get to Washington, they serve the public. Restoring the public’s trust means closing the revolving door between government and private industries, and imposing strong new ethics laws to stop officials from using their public office for personal gain. To do so, we will expand conflict-of-interest laws, ban members of Congress from serving on for-profit boards, revamp the oversight authority of the Office of Government Ethics and prohibit public servants from receiving bonus payments from their former employers to enter government. We’ll curb the influence of high-powered Washington insiders by closing lobbyist registration loopholes that allow big-money power brokers and foreign actors to operate in the shadows. That way, well-connected special interests won’t be able to steer the policy agenda away from the priorities of the American public.

Not bad ideas, I can mostly agree with this, but, notice two big ones that are missing: restricting members of Congress and their staffs and families from engaging in trading and other economic activity based on insider knowledge of legislation. Also, implementing term limits for the House. How bad is it for “democracy” that some serve as elected officials for decade after decade after decade? Pelosi has been in the House since 1987, having zero connection with working people, never having to go home and live under the laws she votes for.

Finally, let’s make it easier, not harder, to vote. Since the Supreme Court took the teeth out of the Voting Rights Act, Republican political operatives have increasingly turned to blatant schemes to make it more difficult for the Americans left behind to participate in elections — a narrow agenda all too often targeted at communities of color.

We must renew the Voting Rights Act to protect every citizen’s access to the ballot box and restore the vital safeguard of pre-clearance requirements for areas with a history of voter suppression. We will promote national automatic voter registration, bolster our critical election infrastructure against foreign attackers, and put an end to partisan gerrymandering once and for all by establishing federal guidelines to outlaw the practice. No American should face hours-long lines, broken voting machines or rules rigged to keep their vote from being counted in our elections.

So, she wants to re-implement something SCOTUS has already whacked as unconstitutional?  Interestingly, the majority of voting precincts that have issues election after election are those run by Democrats.

As for gerrymandering, consider that Pelosi’s congressional district is considered one of the safest Democrat strongholds in the country. And the gerrymandering is one reason for that.
