Democrat Governors To Push Lots Of ‘Climate Change’ Steps

Despite climate change measures, particularly some type of taxation, continuing to fail at the ballot box, Democrats are not going to give up on plans to take more money from citizens and take more control of their lives

New governors plan aggressive climate steps

New and recently re-elected Democratic governors plan a series of aggressive steps to address climate change and bolster renewable energy industries in their states.

The new climate plans come amid federal and international reports that show significant and immediate threats to the environment and the global economy as carbon emissions rise and temperatures spike faster than anticipated.

At the same time, President Trump has said he will pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Accords, rolled back several anti-pollution regulations imposed by the Obama administration and pledged to revitalize the struggling American coal industry.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) will prioritize a measure to create a cap and trade system in her state that is similar to one already underway in neighboring California. Brown’s proposal, laid out in a budget blueprint last month, would set a limit on greenhouse gas emissions that would decline over 30 years.

“Using a cap and invest strategy, that means using a market-based approach that allows our business and industry to use the lowest cost option to reduce their carbon emissions,” Brown said in an interview. “We are very committed to tackling global climate change.”

Well, at least she didn’t see “free market”, because what she’s referring to is the government market option.

Gov. Jay Inslee (D), who has suggested that climate change would be at the top of his agenda if he runs for president in 2020, told The Hill last week that he will try to advance new climate measures through the legislature.

“We are using the loss in Washington to develop policy and strategy,” Oregon’s Brown said. “Under these circumstances, we can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”

A carbon tax scheme lost in Washington during the November election, what was called Initiative 1631, was voted down 56-43. Nor was this the first time a carbon tax lost in an initiative. Democrats won’t give up, though.

Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), who will take over as New Mexico’s governor next year, said she wanted her state to produce enough energy through solar and wind farms to be able to sell excess energy to California and other neighboring states.

“If there was ever a state that could export renewable energy, it’s us,” Lujan Grisham said in an interview. During her campaign, Lujan Grisham aired an advertisement showing herself atop a wind turbine, hundreds of feet above the ground.

And you can bet that environmentalists will file lawsuit after lawsuit to keep her from putting solar panels and wind turbines all over the pristine areas of the state. Oh, and 28% of Nevada is owned by the federal government. Won’t be happening on that land. I doubt they can do enough to keep Las Vegas or Reno powered, much less sell to other states.

Illinois Gov.-elect J.B. Pritzker (D) has said his state will increase its reliance on renewable energy to 25 percent of total consumption by 2025. In Nevada, Gov.-elect Steve Sisolak backed a ballot measure this year that would require the state to get half of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. In Maine, Gov.-elect Janet Mills (D) wants her state to get 80 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

“On the big issues, we can’t afford to wait,” Polis said. “If we want to move forward on climate and renewable energy, it will be on the state level.”

Which is the way it should be. The Constitution doesn’t give the federal government the power to jam these kinds of things down the throats of the citizens. At the state level, it will be great when Democrats over-reach and potentially turn their states Red. However, unfortunately, these kinds of schemes which the Stateists vote for means they get upset about the fallout, such as a skyrocketing cost of living, and leave their Big Government states and come to GOP states, then try and ruin those states. And maybe the states looking at carbon taxes should consider

Which leads to

Tax cuts, huh? Hmmmmmm.

Today’s Christmas Offend Is On *Spins Wheel* T-Shirts

To think, it used to be if someone wanted to be Offended they would have to make an actual phone call, write a letter, or just complain to your friends

From the link

A U.K.-based clothing retailer has yanked one of its pajama sets from sale after complaints of the shirt’s message containing a message that some feel to be insensitive.

Boohoo.com was offering a Christmas-themed pajama set with the words “Obsessive Christmas Disorder” printed across the top, complete with the O, C and D highlighted in different lettering.

“As someone whose OCD ruins her f—– life on a daily basis, i can and will throw hands with anyone i see wearing an “obsessive christmas disorder” jumper,” one critic wrote on Twitter.

“This actually makes me feel sick,” wrote another.

As noted by The Sun, mental-health advocacy group OCD Action also commented on the shop’s pajama set, saying it trivialized a serious condition.

“Products which mock or trivialize OCD add to these misconceptions and can stop people who are genuinely affected by the condition seeking help, often due to a fear that they will not be taken seriously,” said the group’s youth service and communications manager, Olivia Bamber.

Kids Cut Class In Heat Created Cold To Protest For Climate Change Measures Or Something

Why do left wing activists always look so miserable? Perhaps because they realize they’re a bunch of no fun scolds and that the policies they push will cause problems in their own lives?

Local students join those in eight other Canadian cities in staging school strike and rally at city hall

Students from across Metro Vancouver walked out of school today to demand action on climate change, joining school strikes staged in eight other Canadian cities.

About 50 students joined the Vancouver Teen Climate Strike rally at city hall before marching to the West Broadway office of George Heyman, the B.C. minister of environment and climate change strategy.

Organizer Rebecca Hamilton said she was motivated to take action watching other student strikes around the world and especially Swedish teen Greta Thunberg who has been missing classes every Friday to sit outside her country’s Parliament to protest its inaction on climate change.

“Climate change is a crisis and everyday I ask myself how can I just be going about my everyday life when this crisis is coming that’s going to impact my future and generations to follow,” said the grade 11 Lord Byng student.

Hamilton says although the newly introduced Clean B.C. plan includes many positive steps, the emission reduction targets announced don’t go far enough.

“The targets that [Clean B.C.] is based on aren’t science based and won’t keep us below 1.5 degree C temperature rise,” she said. “And so we want to ask George Heyman about these issues because we know that he really believes in strong climate action.”

They look cold, don’t though? Calling it carbon isn’t science based, either. Politically based. But, she is right that the targets aren’t science based. Nor is their cult.

Really, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax is, in fact, finding critics and opponents on all sides. At the end of the day, every carbon tax will see the costs passed on to the consumers. And no plan will see all that money returned to the citizens (which is the big plan these days), no matter what the designers of the taxes say. Perhaps that’s why the kids look so miserable? Or could it be the indoctrination in schools on the Cult of Climastrology? Or just that they’re cold?

Democrats Demand ‘Climate Change’ Measures To Pass Infrastructure Bill

Democrats have been demanding infrastructure spending for years. Because their 2009 $800 billion Stimulus bill didn’t really help much. But, they have Demands

Any Trump infrastructure deal must tackle climate change, Democrats warn

Democrats will only support an infrastructure deal with Donald Trump if it includes measures to combat climate change, the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer, has warned.

In an op-ed in the Washington Post and a letter to Trump, the New York Democrat said that his party “will have an extraordinary opportunity to force action on climate change” after taking control of the House of Representatives in the recent midterm elections.

Infrastructure has been viewed as one area – perhaps the only area – where Trump and Democrats could strike a deal to advance significant legislation. Trump is mounting another push for a $1bn package to upgrade roads, bridges and railways across the country.

However, Trump has repeatedly and controversially expressed skepticism about climate change, including calling it a hoax.

Schumer said that for Democrats to get behind an infrastructure package, it must include money and policy changes to promote renewable energy, and harden US infrastructure against damage from climate change.

“For too long, Congress has failed to act in a meaningful way to combat the threat posed by climate change,” he wrote in the op-ed. “Powerful special interests have a stranglehold on many of my Republican colleagues; some GOP legislators even refuse to acknowledge that climate change is happening.”

These are the same people how refused to Do Something when they had a complete lock on the Senate, House, and White House in 2009 and 2010. And are now demanding a “clean bill” for Dreamers, with no funding for border and interior enforcement, nor for the wall.

Schumer, in his letter to Trump, said an infrastructure package should include tax incentives for production of clean electricity, energy-efficient homes and office buildings, and electric vehicles.

Most of these things end up as boondogles or as ways to help out rich people, who are the ones who purchase electric vehicles.

If it does not include at least some of the climate proposals, the minority leader said Trump’s infrastructure bill “should not count on Democratic support in the Senate”.

So Democrats would refuse to deal with the nation’s infrastructure because of their cultish man-caused climate change beliefs? Tone deaf.

Tolerance: UNC Teaching Assistants To Withhold Grades Over Silent Sam Plan

Here’s a good idea: punish students who paid money in some manner to a North Carolina state funded university over politics

UNC faculty seek voice in Silent Sam’s future as teaching assistants’ strike grows

A faculty group called Friday for UNC leaders to drop a plan to keep the Silent Sam Confederate statue on campus and asked that a faculty committee be included in any future planning for the statue. (snip)

The meeting came as a growing strike involving UNC teaching assistants and instructors threatened to withhold thousands of students’ final grades from the administration.

At least 79 teaching assistants and instructors have joined the strike to protest UNC’s proposed $5.3 million history center to house the Silent Sam Confederate statue, activist leaders posted online Friday morning.

Nearly 2,200 grades and counting will not be released until the UNC Board of Trustees withdraws the plan and the governing board of the UNC system holds “listening sessions in good faith with the campus community,” activists said.

Sure seems like “at least 79” employees of a taxpayer funded university should be terminated for saying they will not do the jobs they were hired to do. Granted, the plan for Silent Sam is a dumb one, which would see millions spent to build a center to house the statue which would have all sorts of history and context and stuff, and could cost as much as $800,000 a year to operate. No, really. No one really understands why it would cost so much, other than Government.

Now try and tell your boss that you won’t do a report until the company makes some sort of change. See how that works out

Graduate students and instructors expressed the same demands early Friday in a meeting called by Blouin and Kevin Guskiewicz, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, according to #StrikeDownSam Twitter posts.

In a letter requesting the meeting, the men warned that instructors who fail to release final grades expose the university to lawsuits and threaten students’ ability to graduate and get military commissions, scholarships, grants, loans, jobs and extended visas.

The letter, posted to Twitter, also warns instructors against using their role in the classroom to recruit student support for the strike. Students and parents have complained to the university, Guskiewicz and Blouin said.

“Such actions have been interpreted as coercion and an exploitation of the teacher-student relationship and in fact are a violation of students’ First Amendment rights as well as federal law,” they said.

“We trust that our instructors will not act in a way that harms the interests of students and their families, and that these instructors meet the legal, ethical and moral responsibilities for which they have been contracted. Please consider that your failure to meet your responsibilities to your students, including timely submission of final grades, will result in serious consequences.”

The big question is, if grades are withheld will UNC take action? It doesn’t matter what your opinion is of the statue. You still have to do your job. And, after all, it is just a statue.

Climate Change Caused A Massive Ocean Extinction Which Could Happen Again Or Something

We can fix this with a tax, you know

How climate change choked ancient life to death — and why it could happen again

Scientists say rapidly warming oceans played a key role in the world’s biggest mass extinction, 252 million years ago, and could point to the risks that lie ahead in an era of similarly rapid climate change.

The latest analysis, published in this week’s issue of the journal Science, puts together computer modeling of ancient ocean conditions and a close look at species characteristics to fit new pieces into a longstanding puzzle: What were the factors behind the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, also known as the Great Dying?

The Permian-Triassic die-off dwarfed the extinction event that killed off the dinosaurs almost 190 million years later. About 70 percent of land-based species became extinct, but the toll was even greater in Earth’s seas. An estimated 96 percent of marine species were snuffed out.

Grain of salt?

The computer modeling showed that the warmer oceans lost about 80 percent of their oxygen. About half of the ocean seafloor, mostly at deeper depths, became completely oxygen-free.

So, no direct observations?

Penn noted that the computer models could be applied to future ocean conditions as well as past conditions, with worrisome results.

“Under a business-as-usual emissions scenario, by 2100, warming in the upper ocean will have approached 20 percent of warming in the late Permian. And by the year 2300, it will reach between 35 and 50 percent,” he said. “This study highlights the potential for a mass extinction arising from a similar mechanism under anthropogenic climate change.”

Who’s Up For The Reindeer Monologues?

If you saw the last two words and thought “Vagina Monologues”, you’d be pretty close. I’d ask them to do the Mohammed Monologues, but, even these religion haters know better than to say something which will get them credible death threats

Review: ‘Reindeer Monologues’ uses Christmas to create provocative critique

“The Eight: Reindeer Monologues,” which opened at M&D Playhouse at 1857 White Mountain Highway in North Conway on Thursday, Dec. 6, is a truly unique holiday show. It is a challenging, thought-provoking look at sexual assault and abuse of power that is equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking.

Written by Jeff Goode in 1994, “The Eight” feels more relevant than ever in the wake of the #MeToo movement, which has thrust issues of sexual harassment unavoidably into the public eye.

Vixen (Sam Kilbride) has accused Santa Claus of molesting her, which brings a media storm to the North Pole. The play is structured as a series of monologues, with each reindeer offering their views on Santa and the accusations.

Unlike the similarly formatted “Vagina Monologues,” which is a collection of unrelated monologues about womanhood, the monologues in “The Eight” tell a complete narrative with each successive account giving a more clear picture of what Santa and life at the North Pole is really like. Needless to say, this show is not for children.

Director Ken Martin, who also plays Cupid, the only openly gay reindeer on Santa’s team, has guided his actors to a place that feels grounded and sincere. Even the more humorous monologues are based in real emotion, whether that is anger, hurt, confusion or righteousness.

The review doesn’t get any better. And includes

Finally, there’s Vixen, which the whole play builds toward. Kilbride doesn’t hold back. It is a raw, exposed performance full of pain, rage and frustration, not just at Santa, but at a society that blames the victim and gives the benefit of the doubt to the accused. It is a heart-wrenching performance that you sit rapt watching in silence.

Certainly, victims shouldn’t be shamed, but, the accused are just that: the accused. Who enjoy the protection of innocent till proven guilty.
