Bummer: California Residents Not Thrilled By Illegal Aliens/Migrants Dropped Off By CPB

Remember this from back in mid-April?

(Politico) President Donald Trump on Friday said that his administration is “strongly looking at” releasing detained undocumented immigrants into so-called sanctuary cities — contradicting a previous statement from the White House that the policy was no longer being considered.

“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only,” Trump wrote in a series of tweets. “The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy – so this should make them very happy!”

He continued: “California certainly is always saying, we want more people, and they want more people in their sanctuary cities, we will give them more people. We can give them an unlimited supply. And let’s see if they are so happy. They always say they have open arms. Let’s see if they have open arms.”

Many Democrats complained about this floated plan, saying it demonizes illegals, attempting to find a way to reject send illegals to their areas that didn’t show that they didn’t want more illegals, while others said “sure, we’ll take them!” Hey, why won’t they take them all? They support illegal immigration, right? So they say. But, that’s more in theory than practice (via Jazz Shaw)

‘We’re Watching’: Locals Concerned After Migrants Arrive At Murrieta Border Control Facility

An unknown number of migrants were recently flown into Murrieta’s Border Patrol facility and some in the community were quick to stand in front of the gates to let them know they’re not welcome to stay.

Murrieta resident Bob Kowell says he’s all for legal immigration but told CBSLA’s Nicole Comstock that a source informed him of 100 undocumented immigrants being flown in from the Texas border to San Diego, then bussed to Murrieta over the weekend to be processed.

“We can be called a racist and we’ll just smile. Because we don’t care,” said Kowell. “We’re watching to see where and when they’ll move.”

He said that a source told him that the migrants will eventually be dropped off at strip malls and bus stations throughout the valley.

The Murrieta Police Department, however, said that is not true.

According to the Murrieta Police Department, “Our chief Sean Hatton contacted the commander of the border patrol station in Murrieta and was assured from him that there was not going to be any immigrants released from the Murrieta border patrol station.”

Murrieta is just to the southeast of the Los Angeles area. And, as Jazz points out in regards to Bob Kowell mentioned above

Wait a minute, here… isn’t that just what liberals protesting Trump accuse conservatives of saying? So what he’s basically telling us is he’s a big supporter, but not in his backyard. Got it.

Also

So it’s easy to show up at a march and blame President Trump for being cruel to the migrants. But everything seems to change when the problem moves from the border to your home town, I guess.

Yeah, it’s easy to show your wokeness and “caring” and stuff, but, not so much fun when it affects you directly.

Amazon Shareholders Tell ‘Climate Change’ Employees To Pound Sand

The shareholders should have told the members of the Amazon Employees For Climate Justice that they were cutting their jobs to save the carbon footprint. Or that they would be taking 10% out of their paychecks to pay for carbon offsets. See how that would go down with the little Warmists, when they have to pay up themselves

Amazon Shareholders Rejected Employees’ Call To Respond To Climate Change

Amazon shareholders rejected a proposal to develop a plan to respond to climate change during the company’s annual meeting on Wednesday. The proposal had gathered the support of nearly 7,700 employees across the company.

The resolution would have required Amazon’s board of directors to prepare a public plan for “disruptions posed by climate change” and how the company will reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Dozens of shareholders attended the shareholder meeting dressed in white. They stood up while Emily Cunningham, a user experience designer and member of Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, addressed her comments to CEO Jeff Bezos, who was not onstage during the meeting.

“Speed is everything,” she said. “Without bold, rapid action we will lose our only chance to avoid catastrophic warming. There’s no issue more important to our customers or our world than the climate crisis, and we are falling far short.”

Seriously, these people work for a company with a massive carbon footprint due to shipping products from all over the world to all over the world using fossil fuels.

But, a lot of these employees are looking to get quietly terminated

After the proposal failed to pass, employees attempted to confront Bezos, who declined to meet with them.

“Jeff remained off-stage, ignored the employees and would not speak to them,” the group said in a statement after the event. “Jeff’s inaction and lack of meaningful response underscore his dismissal of the climate crisis and spoke volumes about how Amazon’s board continues to de-prioritize addressing Amazon’s role in the climate emergency.”

Who thinks it’s a good idea to publicly criticize the owner of a company?

AOC Shocked To Learn She Agrees With Freedom Caucus On Facial Recognition Issue

You’d think that Millennials would be used to having their entire lives tracked, having grown up in an age of utter Internet, especially since they like to document pretty much their entire lives, from the small to the big, and with tons of selfies, on-line. But, give her credit where credit is due

AOC shocked to agree with GOP’s Freedom Caucus on surveillance tech: ‘Check the sky for flying pigs’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she checked to see if pigs could fly after she found a rare moment of common ground with House Republicans on Wednesday over the protection of Americans from surveillance.

During a House Oversight Committee hearing, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle expressed the need for legislation to regulate the increasingly widespread use of facial recognition software to track members of the public.

“Check the sky for flying 🐽 bc Rep. Meadows, much of the Freedom Caucus & I are in agreement on preventing total surveillance of Americans without their knowledge,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter following the hearing. “Whether it’s Amazon or Gov, no one should be tracked w/o consent or a warrant,” she wrote.

Both law enforcement agencies and private companies have been using the technology to identify people’s faces in public and private settings. Amazon’s “Rekognition” software has been aggressively marketed to law enforcement groups, including the FBI and the Orlando Police Department, BuzzFeed News reported.

U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., chairman of the Freedom Caucus, described facial recognition as a “sweet spot that brings progressives and conservatives together.”

“When you have a diverse group on this committee, as diverse as you might see on the polar ends, I’m here to tell you, we’re serious about this and let’s get together and work on legislation and it is the time is now, before it gets out of control,” Meadows said at the hearing.

Privacy is an issue that I read about a bit, but do no post on. Personally, I think I am rather blase over it. If Amazon wants to know what music I listen to, I do not care. If Google is tracking me through their mapping program, well, it’s kinda creepy, but, what are they going to do with it? Same with online stuff, because I pay zero attention to the generated ads. It’s when all this data is used for government tracking that it breaks down, and, when we get to facial recognition, that is a step way too far

“When government surveillance attacks civil liberties, Congress must step in and defend Americans,” U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, a co-founder of the Freedom Caucus, wrote on Twitter. He included a video of himself questioning Neema Singh Guliani, a senior legislative counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union, at the hearing.

“We’ve never seen anything like this technology before,” Guliani said during her testimony on Wednesday. “The U.S. reportedly has over 50 million surveillance cameras. This, combined with face recognition threatens, to create a near-constant surveillance state.”

Some will offer the argument of “yeah, but they could catch bad people.” Certainly. But, it’s the loss of freedom, of personal privacy, where the government is surveilling us and tracking our movements. Further, the software allows anyone to use it and recognize people out on the streets.

When you unlock your iPhone with your face, where does that data go? We’ve gotten immune to all the modern day track. Perhaps it’s time we tuned back in, and perhaps AOC and the Freedom Caucus can make something good happen.

With Climate Doom Here, Why Don’t More People Give A Mule Fritter Or Something

The Stranger’s Katie Herzog is very vexed with this question, but misses the real answer

Climate Change Is Here. So Why Don’t More People Give a Shit?

During the last round of debates in 2016, presidential hopefuls spent a whopping 5 minutes and 27 seconds talking about climate change. That’s less than they discussed the national debt.

You’d think people, especially politicians, would be more interested in the single most pressing issue of our time—one that touches everything from public health to the economy to immigration to trade to the food we eat and the water we drink and the air we breathe. But no. Even a few notable exceptions, it’s just not an issue that gets all that much play in either politics or the media compared to everything—and I do mean everything—else. As Lisa Hymas pointed out recently in Grist, ABC’s World News Tonight, their flagship news program, spent more time covering the latest royal birth this month than they did climate change in all of 2018.

Still, while this may demonstrate some flawed priorities on the part of newsmakers, it’s not like most viewers are clamoring for more climate coverage. As MSNBC host Chris Hayes tweeted last year, “every single time we’ve covered [climate change], it’s been a palpable ratings killer. so the incentives are not great.” (Hayes was widely criticized for this tweet by climate activists, and his show has increased climate coverage this year, including a special with AOC about the Green New Deal. At an event with the Columbia Journalism Review this month, he said that while the special didn’t exactly break records for ratings, it was worth doing regardless.)

Even the media, which likes to trot out the prognostications of doom, can’t make people care, and when they go deep, people tune out

Part of the public’s lack of interest, I suspect, is that climate change can often seem hopeless. I wrote about it for two years myself, and now that it’s not my job to keep abreast of the melting ice caps, I find myself skipping over articles and news reports about anything remotely connected to the climate. I’ll see Elizabeth Kolbert has a new piece in the New Yorker about how half the world’s species are going extinct, and I think, “Great. I hope everyone else reads it. I’d rather watch reruns of The Hills.” It just feels hopeless, especially now, when climate change deniers are running the White House and instead of actually dealing with this monumental problem, we’re still talking about whether or not the phenomenon even exists.

Katie also delves into all the silly psychological type studies, how the issue seems “monumental in scope”, that people fail to take action when they feel helpless, and

So, what’s to be done if you want the American public and the politicians and corporations who run this place to really start caring about climate? For one, people who cover this stuff for a living could start offering more than just the bad news. Some media organizations have tried this by focusing on what’s called “solutions journalism,” but at this point, the vast majority of climate change coverage falls into the category of “We’re Fucked.” Writers offer the bad news, but no way to change it, but if we don’t offer some kind of hope, the natural reaction is to shut down and change the channel.

Once again a Warmist misses the obvious solution: practice what they preach. Show us the way. Show us that they’re serious by making significant changes in their own lives. As Instapundit was fond of saying “I’ll believe it’s a crisis when the people who tell me it’s a crisis act like it’s a crisis (in their own lives).” It may get rather tedious noting this, but, if your doctor was telling you to lose weight, eat better, lay off the soda, and stop smoking, yet was clearing overweight themselves, smelled of smoke, was drinking a soda, and was eating lots of donuts, would you listen?

Rotting Piles Of Garbage In Los Angeles Could Lead To Typhus Epidemic

Aren’t Democrat run cities great?

Let’s go to the story

Rat-infested piles of rotting garbage left uncollected by the city of Los Angeles, even after promises to clean it up, are fueling concerns about a new epidemic after last year’s record number of flea-borne typhus cases.

Even the city’s most notorious trash pile, located between downtown LA’s busy Fashion and Produce districts, continues to be a magnet for rats after it was cleaned up months ago. The rodents can carry typhus-infected fleas, which can spread the disease to humans through bacteria rubbed into the eyes or cuts and scrapes on the skin, resulting in severe flu-like symptoms.

The NBC4 I-Team first told Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office about the piles of filth in the 700 block of Ceres Avenue in October. At the time, he promised to make sure trash doesn’t pile up like that.

The garbage was cleaned after the interview, but conditions have worsened over the next seven months.

“I can’t walk down the street without thinking that a flea could jump on me,” said Estela Lopez, who represents business owners in the area.

And the rat problem continues to increase. If only they had some money to deal with this. Let’s jump back in time a bit, shall we?

To the editor: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and County Supervisor Hilda Solis in December announced the creation of a $10-million legal aid fund to “hire lawyers to defend local immigrants without legal status.” (“A $10-million fund will help immigrants fight deportations. But should it help those with violent criminal convictions?” April 17)

My street hasn’t been swept for years. When I tried to find out why, I was told that my area is not “on the list” because there are no longer enough machines and people to drive them. Services that I continue to pay for have been stopped.

If there is enough money around to help illegal immigrants, surely there is enough to begin sweeping my dirty street again. Shouldn’t citizens come before illegal residents?

LA County has also spent $1.3 billion providing welfare to illegal aliens.

Back To 1499: UK Environmentalists Want One Quarter Of Nation Returned To Nature

Hey, let’s start with the big urbanized areas, like London. Oh, wait, no, they want Other Areas to have this happen

Return a quarter of UK to nature to fight climate change, say environmentalists

Up to one quarter of UK land would be left to nature if a new plan to reduce the country’s carbon emissions were introduced.

The proposal comes in a report from environmental group Rewilding Britain, which recommends restoring and protecting woodlands, peatbog, heaths and grasslands as a way to naturally absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

It targets a total of more than 6 million hectares of land for the scheme, which its says could remove 47 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year — more than a tenth of current UK emissions.

It estimates the cost at £1.9 billion ($2.4 billion) a year, and suggests a new subsidy system could pay landowners to restore ecosystems and increase carbon sequestration.

“Our report demonstrates how land use change with nature at its heart can play a major role in our efforts to meet our targets and address climate breakdown,” said Rewilding Britain chief executive Rebecca Wrigley, in a statement.

Who pays for this? A new tax scheme?

“We want the government to use the increasing sense of urgency as an opportunity to radically review how land is managed in the UK.”

So, they want more Government control over people’s land. Go figure.

In the Rewilding Britain link we see in the summary

The rewilding of peatlands, heathland, native woodlands, saltmarshes, wetlands and coastal waters in the UK can all make a significant contribution to carbon sequestration.

So, not the urban areas where most of these Warmists live.

Establish a mandatory economy-wide carbon pricing mechanism linked to carbon emissions to raise dedicated revenue to help fund natural climate solutions.

And there’s the tax. Surprise?

Good News: MS-13 Members Murder Teen Girl After Sanctuary City Released Them

Remember when sanctuary jurisdiction and illegal alien supporters said they only want to keep the good illegals?

MS-13 Illegal Aliens Charged with Murdering Teen Girl After Being Released by Sanctuary City

Two illegal alien members of the violent MS-13 gang have been charged with the murder of a 14-year-old girl in Maryland after previously being released from custody by a sanctuary city.

Last week, illegal alien MS-13 gang members Josue Rafael Fuentes-Ponce, 16-years-old, and Joel Ernesto Escobar, 17-years-old, were charged with first-degree murder — along with 14-year-old Cynthia Hernandez-Nucamendi — in the death of 14-year-old Ariana Funes-Diaz in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

According to police, the two illegal alien MS-13 gang members and Hernandez-Nucamendi met the 14-year-old victim at an apartment complex before taking her into a wooded area nearby. In the wooded area, police say the three beat the girl with a baseball bat and stabbed her to death with a machete.

Now, the pair of illegal alien MS-13 gang members and Hernandez-Nucamendi have been charged with murdering Funes-Diaz.

Last year, Fuentes-Ponce and Escobar were released from custody by Prince George’s County officials after being charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, participation in gang activity, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted robbery.

At the time, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency had requested that the two illegal alien gang members not be released back into the community and instead be turned over to their custody for deportation.

Prince George’s County, a sanctuary city, released the illegal aliens anyway, and they were never able to be arrested or deported by ICE.

So, wait, they were released while being illegally in the country and charged with multiple felonies? Big time felonies? Seriously, 1st degree murder and they were released?

Fuentes first arrived in the U.S. at the Texas-Mexico border in December 2015 as part of a family unit. He and the other family members were paroled into the U.S. Though a judge requested that the illegal alien be deported in March 2017, he never arrived for his court hearing and was subsequently never deported.

Likewise, Escobar entered the Texas-Mexico border as an unaccompanied juvenile in August 2016. Instead of being deported, he was released to family members living in Washington, D.C. where he has lived since illegally entering the country.

These are the ones that Democrats are trying to protect. Oh, and this guy

The Washington Post noted

A citizen of Kenya, Chemirmir has lived in the greater Dallas area for more than a decade and had a history of DWI and assault charges, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In 2016, he had also been charged with trespassing at a retirement community in Dallas where one of his alleged victims reportedly lived. He is being held on $9.1 million bail. Because he is in the country illegally, federal immigration authorities have additionally placed a jail hold on him.

Follow that Star-Telegram link for more details. Dallas, sadly, is a sanctuary jurisdiction, and was one of many cities that sued to attempt to stop Texas’ anti-sanctuary jurisdiction law in 2017.

Word Salad: AOC Says Growing Cauliflower Is Basically Raaaaacism Or Something

This is not from the Babylon Bee

What’s up with the OK symbol? Isn’t that all about White Power now? Anyhow, from the link

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., explained Sunday that a “core component” of her Green New Deal legislation is ending “colonial” attitudes that dominate community gardens.

“What I love too is growing plants that are culturally familiar to the community. It’s so important,” the freshman congresswoman said in an Instagram video while exploring a Bronx community garden.

“So that’s really how you do it right. That is such a core component of the Green New Deal is having all of these projects make sense in a cultural context, and it’s an area that we get the most pushback on because people say, ‘Why do you need to do that? That’s too hard,’” Ocasio-Cortez said in another Instagram video of her walking the streets of New York after leaving the community garden.

“But when you really think about it — when someone says that it’s ‘too hard’ to do a green space that grows Yucca instead of, I don’t know, cauliflower or something — what you’re doing is that you’re taking a colonial approach to environmentalism, and that is why a lot of communities of color get resistant to certain environmentalist movements because they come with the colonial lens on them,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

See, only certain gardening is Allowed. Or you’re a racist colonizer like it’s 1700.
