See, if the Cult of Climastrology can’t convince people to approve of their radical Big Government plans, they’ll just force it through
Ambitious Climate Plans Might Need a Radical Legislative One: Ending the Filibuster
Democrats running for president are promoting historically ambitious plans to fight climate change.
Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. wants to put a price on greenhouse emissions with the aim of eliminating the United States’ net planet-warming pollution by 2050. Former Representative Beto O’Rourke of Texas has proposed spending $5 trillion to promote clean energy and to help communities adapt to global warming. Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington has centered his entire campaign on addressing climate change, with policies designed to eventually freeze the nation’s fossil fuel production entirely. Tom Steyer, the California billionaire who entered the race on Tuesday, plans to focus his campaign in part on climate change.
But even if a green-minded Democrat wins the White House, dramatic action to reverse climate change could very well require another radical change in Washington: the elimination of the Senate filibuster.
Climate legislation is hardly the only issue that might lead either party to do away with the filibuster, which allows a minority of senators to block most legislation from receiving a vote unless 60 senators agree to cut off debate.
In most cases, if you cannot convince 60 Senators to agree to legislation than it is not good legislation, and the filibuster is there to protect the minority from tyranny
But climate change, with its high stakes, is increasingly being viewed as one of the issues that could finally push Democrats, who remain deeply divided over the filibuster, to kill it off for good, if given the chance.
“Climate change is an existential threat, and there is just no way to deal with climate change without getting rid of the filibuster,†Mr. Inslee said. “You cannot allow an arcane, antebellum, antiquated procedure to block progress.â€
Funny, Democrats have been screeching about the threat to democracy since Trump was elected, yet, they want to kill off one of the main methods in protecting the minority in our Constitutional Federalist Democracy to pass legislation that is opposed by half the country. Perhaps more. Doing Something may be popular in theory, but, not in practice.
John Kerry, the former secretary of state and Massachusetts senator, was the lead author of the last major climate change bill that Democrats tried to push through the Senate, in 2010. Despite having majorities in both chambers of Congress and a champion of the bill in the White House, Democrats were forced to abandon the legislation when it became clear it could not muster 60 votes.
Mr. Kerry, who as secretary of state served as a lead broker of the Paris climate change accord in 2015, said he has been reflecting on whether the filibuster needs to be retired — specifically, to clear the way for a climate change bill.
“The Senate’s pretty broken, and this is not a moment to be stuck in the old ways,†he said. Still, he allowed that should the filibuster be dissolved, “It could quickly become a moment of, ‘Be careful what you wish for.’â€
The filibuster is not a bug, it is a feature. It is mean to make sure that parties cannot jam through legislation. It is supposed to be very hard to pass legislation. And, yes, Kerry is correct, be careful what you wish for. If the filibuster wasn’t present Obamacare would already be gone, for one.
But, hey, if you can’t convince people, just change the rules, right?

Ah, the tolerance of the Leftist. They’ve completely given up on attempting to persuade, and have become insular and intolerant of any position, person, and entity that disagrees with them in the least
Megan Rapinoe rips Trump WH visit, says she’d accept invites from Pelosi, AOC
U.S. Women’s Soccer superstar Megan Rapinoe doubled down in her opposition to visit the Trump White House on Tuesday but expressed that she was open to accept invitations from anyone who “believes the same things we believe in” like Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY.
Rapinoe’s feud with the president began last month when she declared she was “not going to the f—ing White House,†which prompted a response from Trump on Twitter.
“I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!” Trump exclaimed, later adding that he would invite the team to the White House “win or lose.”
Following her team’s victory at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Rapinoe told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper that she has yet to receive a formal invitation from the White House nor does she appear to want it.
Interesting. You have the first president who was pro-gay, who didn’t have to change his position on that for political expediency, but, of course, since he’s pro-America she has an issue
“Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me. You’re excluding people that look like me. You’re excluding people of color. You’re excluding Americans that maybe support you,” she told Trump. “We need to have a reckoning with the message that you have and what you’re saying about ‘Make America Great Again.’ I think you are harking back to an era that was not great for everyone.”
Yet
“This is such a special moment for us and to be able to sort of leverage this moment, talk about the things we want to talk about and to celebrate like this with the leaders of our country is an incredible moment,” Rapinoe continued. “So yes to AOC, yes to Pelosi, yes to a bipartsan Congress, yes to Chuck Schumer, yes to anyone else that wants to invite us and have a real substantive conversation and that believe in the same things we believe in.”
How does one have a substantive conversation with people who only believe what you believe? You’re having a reinforcing conversation. She has an opportunity to talk to the most powerful man in the world, and perhaps change his mind on some things, or get him to help on something. If she wants equal pay (they actually get 20% of revenue vs the men’s team which gets 7%) she could attempt to convince Trump to back her and the team.
Her message is excluding people while projecting that blame on Trump, and, by extension, the 61 million who voted for him. It’s helpful to not diminish and dismiss the opinions of people you need to get support from.

Would this be the same AOC who refuses to demand a vote on her Green New Deal, and threw a hissy fit when the Senate voted on it? And Bernie Sanders who voted “present” on it? And neither refuse to give up their own massive fossil fueled carbon footprints?
Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez move to declare climate crisis official emergency
A group of US lawmakers including 2020 Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders are proposing to declare the climate crisis an official emergency – a significant recognition of the threat taken after considerable pressure from environment groups.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic congresswoman from New York, and Earl Blumenauer, a Democratic congressman from Oregon, plan to introduce the same resolution in the House on Tuesday, their offices confirmed. Sanders’ office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Climate activists have been calling for the declaration, as data shows nations are not on track to limit the dangerous heating of the planet significantly enough. The UN has warned the world is experiencing one climate disaster every week. A new analysis from the economic firm Rhodium Group today finds the US might achieve less than half of the percentage of pollution reductions it promised other countries in an international agreement.
It will probably pass the House, though the debate, if allowed, would be rather inconvenient for Warmists as Skeptics show that all the solutions are about taxes, fees, and more big Government control. There’s zero chance it will pass the Senate
Even if the resolution passed and was signed by the president, it would not force any action on climate change. But advocates say similar efforts in Canada and the United Kingdom have served as a leverage point, highlighting the hypocrisy between the government position that the situation is an emergency and individual decisions that would exacerbate the problem.
So, it’s all about being feel good?
The draft resolution is below the fold

There’s literally nothing SJWs won’t freak out about and attempt to ruin for everyone else
Fans of the country rock group Confederate Railroad are outraged after the band was dropped from the lineup at an Illinois state fair.
The band was slated to perform at the Du Quoin State Fair in Du Quoin, Ill. on Aug. 27 for “90s Country Reloaded Day,†but have since been removed from the fair lineup. While it is not immediately clear what the rationale behind the change was, some believe the decision was made because the band’s name was deemed inappropriate.
Fellow country artists Charlie Daniels and Joe Bonsall, a member of the Oak Ridge Boys, took to Twitter to speak out about how “political correctness†is “out of control,†and how it’s unfair to cancel a group of talented artists because of their band’s name.
This political correctness thing is totally out of control
When a fair cancels the Confederate Railroad band because of their name its giving in to facism, plain and simple and our freedom disappears piece by piece.
Sick of it.— Charlie Daniels (@CharlieDaniels) July 6, 2019
Fans echoed the same thoughts on social media, emphasizing how people need to focus on the music and not whether people will be offended.
“Confederate Railroad plays some very good music! I’m so disgusted with all this politically correct nonsense. I don’t care what one does, someone wont like it and possibly be offended by it,†one person wrote. “That’s life. Whoever’s offended needs to put on their big kid pants and move on.â€
Would this be a case of censorship?
The Du Quoin State Fairgrounds is owned and operated by the state. Illinois Department of Agriculture public information officer Krista Lisser confirms to Yahoo Lifestyle that Confederate Railroad was removed from the 2019 Du Quoin State Fair grandstand lineup.
She declined to clarify the reasoning or provide additional information behind the move.
“While every artist has a right to expression, we believe this decision is in the best interest of serving all the people of our state,†Lisser says.
Owned by the state. I wonder if Lisser asked the people of the state what they think? Also, you have to wonder if this violated the contract surely signed by both the state and Confederate Railroad. The band may be getting paid to not play.

Sir David Attenborough makes some wonderful programs, does he not? Blue Planet was incredible, as are his others. Unfortunately, he’s gone 100% around the bend to become a Warmist. But, hey, in recommending we become radical, he’s going to tell people he’s given up his massive use of fossil fuels and energy to make all his documentaries, right? Because it takes a lot to travel around the world. And tell other Warmists to do the same, right?
David Attenborough on climate change: ‘We cannot be radical enough’
The UK must take radical action to meet its climate change targets, David Attenborough told a UK parliamentary committee today. But he warned ministers must carry the public with them because of the financial cost of meeting the goals.
“We cannot be radical enough in dealing with these issues,†he told MPs when asked if the UK should bring forward its new target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, as some campaigners have called for. But he said the real issue was what is politically possible.
“Because it costs money in realistic terms, dealing with these problems mean we have to change our lifestyles,†he told the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee. “The question of how fast we can go is how fast we can carry the electorate with us.†Getting to net zero within three decades was a “tough target†but he “hoped to goodness†the UK could achieve it.
Attenborough compared changing morality towards slavery in Britain in the nineteenth century to changing attitudes on climate change today. “I suspect we are right now in the beginning of a big change. Young people are the stimulus bringing that about,†he said.

Notice that this is all about, once again, empowering Government to force change on citizens, whether they want it or not. The use of slavery is intentional, designed to do the old “wrong side of history” schtick for those who oppose these forced changes. Of course, most in Britain were not opposed to doing away with slavery. Now, go ahead and run big polls, or, heck, put ‘climate change’ solutions up for a vote, noting how much it will cost and how much freedom it will take away, and see how that goes. Which is exactly why he wants Government Force involved.
In a wide-ranging hearing in parliament, he said climate change would cause “huge immigration†to the US and Europe in future, it will be a “sad day†if Donald Trump succeeds in withdrawing the US from Paris Agreement in 2020, and warned of future pressures on food production. “We are going to have to look for new sources of food unless we do something about population,†he said. The naturalist said his “most vivid†firsthand experience of climate change was seeing the damage it had wrought to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
And there’s the old “population reduction” belief for the extremists. Probably aimed at those “migrants”, who tend to be Africans and Middle Easterners.
Kids and young folks buying into this, sit back and think deeply on what it actually means politically and for your life. Set aside the scary prognostications for a moment, and wonder why all the policies take away your money, choice, and freedom and give it to Government.

Poor Richard Cohen. This dude infused with Trump Derangement Syndrome has finally realized that what the Democrats are running on doesn’t actually help in the focus on defeating Trump. And actually helps Trump win
Democrats, stop embracing losing issues and focus on getting rid of Trump
The bevy of Democrats running for president seems determined to test my silent vow never to vote Republican, especially for President Trump. The truth is that I cannot imagine that happening, but I can imagine entering the voting booth with about a colonoscopy level of enthusiasm. Please, can we get this over with?
At the moment, the party is squabbling over what is called forced busing to achieve school desegregation. It seems the party has forgotten that, with the possible exception of the Civil War draft, no program has been more hated by working-class Democrats — more whites than blacks, but plenty of blacks as well. In large U.S. cities, busing was seen as an effort by liberals to send white kids to schools they would not, for a moment, send their own kids to. In Boston, the spiritual home of the antibusing movement in the 1960s, the populace had not been as furious since King George III bivouacked his unwashed redcoats in the tidy homes of American patriots.
Yeah, that’s pretty much an issue that almost no one cares about, being 2019.
But the Democratic Party is on a tear. One by one, its candidates have embraced losing issue after losing issue. First came reparations for slavery, a noble idea lacking only popular support and practicality and possibly amounting to yet another attempt to right a wrong with money. Before that, the various candidates raised their hands in support of Medicare-for-all, which could strip millions of people of their private insurance plans. That is sure to be characterized by Trump as socialized medicine with the sick growing old and dying, covered in cobwebs while waiting to see the doctor. GOP strategists must be hyperventilating over all the goodies arrayed before them. This is a campaign even Trump could win.
The Democratic Party has a possibly fatal inability to prioritize. The urgent challenge is to rid the nation of Trump, not to mollify this or that identity group or wrestle over issues that could not be solved when they were relevant — such as busing. As it is, the candidates are campaigning in an America of their own imagination — a bit to the left of Sweden and as racially unified as one of those old Coke commercials. They pander to the extremes of the early caucus and primary states, thinking they can seduce the middle later on down the road or, in my case, giving me a choice of one of them or Trump. Sedate me first.
Cohen is not wrong. What Democrats are campaigning on panders to a small subset of America, the one that tends to be urban based and unhinged. This hyper-leftism might even drive average Democrats away. They probably won’t vote Trump, but, they won’t be voting Democrat. It won’t play well in swing states. And while many things might poll well in theory, in practice, not so much.
Of course, here’s the problem for Cohen: he offers no ideas for Democrats to defeat Trump. But, then, to do that would require that Democrats give up a goodly chunk of their beliefs set. They’d have to start loving America again, stop hating on the military, stop trying to control every citizen’s life at the federal level, stop trying to essentially control everything.

Members of the Cult of Climastrology are getting more and more bold (and unhinged) in announcing their true goals. Here’s Richard Partington in the UK Guard, and just about all you need to know is in the sub-head
To ensure a green future the UK needs to ditch free market economics
The scale of the climate emergency requires nothing less than full government engagement
With just 11 years left to prevent irreversible damage caused by the climate emergency, there are still options to wean the world’s economy off its reliance on fossil fuels. However anything less than putting Britain on a war footing will not be enough.
The government response so far has been timid. Theresa May introduced a net-zero carbon emissions target for 2050, but there are reasons why the Conservatives haven’t gone further: her party is hard-wired to fail. Clinging to a belief in the power of free markets, it neglects the fact that to decarbonise the economy greater investment from the state is required.
Free-market advocates detest big government. But faced with the scale of the challenge, only government has the weapons powerful enough to tackle the crisis. So far May and her allies have been held back by their unswerving belief in the market economy and the mobilisation of private capital.
So, we can generously call this a “command economy”
A command economy is a system where the government, rather than the free market, determines what goods should be produced, how much should be produced, and the price at which the goods are offered for sale. It also determines investments and incomes. The command economy is a key feature of any communist society. Cuba, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union are examples of countries that have command economies, while China maintained a command economy for decades before transitioning to a mixed economy that features both communistic and capitalistic elements.
Or, we can just refer to this as Modern Socialism, because not only will the government run the economy, they will own sectors, as well as control your lives. Funny how Warmists never thing this will effect them negatively.
