Washington Post: President Pelosi Can Totally Happen

These people have lost their minds. But, then, that’s nothing new. Remember, though, the Washington Post proclaims themselves to be non-partisan

From the screed, which is not in the opinion section

What happens when a Democratic speaker of the House — third in line to the presidency, according to the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 — is suddenly thrust into the Oval Office, succeeding a Republican president and vice president who resign, embroiled in scandal?

Such a scenario is attracting attention — #PresidentPelosi was trending on social media after last week’s announcement of an impeachment inquiry — even though it may seem far-fetched that President Trump and Vice President Pence would be forced from office over abuse of power related to the administration’s dealings with Ukraine or other misdeeds.

This was a more urgent question in the fall of 1973. On Oct. 10, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned, pleading nolo contendere to charges of tax evasion. Ten days later, President Richard M. Nixon ordered the firing of Watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox in what is widely known as the Saturday Night Massacre. As hearings began in the Senate and the House on the nomination of Agnew’s successor, Gerald Ford, questions swirled about the possibility that Democratic House Speaker Carl Albert (D-Okla.) might assume the presidency.

Yeah, this is all about looking back to what happened during the Nixon issue. And, yes, it’s Resistance Porn

No matter who succeeds this president, or when, the Sorensen memo is a road map to restoring the dignity, integrity and basic function of the nation’s highest office. The chaos created by the current occupant’s heedless, indulgent and volatile leadership — if it can be considered “leadership” — calls for attention to the national interest and preparation to avoid the kinds of hasty, unwise judgments and actions that can result in catastrophic mistakes. Although from another time, the Sorensen memo offers sage counsel for undertaking such preparations and a plan to steady our careening country and get it back on track.

Comrade Bernie Says His $16 Trillion Green New Deal Will Pay For Itself Or Something

By “paying for itself” he means that consumers will pay for it with sky high cost of living

Bernie Sanders Says His $16 Trillion Climate Change Proposal Will Basically Pay for Itself

As the 2020 presidential election draws near and the 18 remaining Democratic candidates work to break away from the pack and secure the primary, Senator Bernie Sanders sat down at Cosmopolitan’s office to talk about his campaign, why he doesn’t think he’s “far left,” why he won’t take away AR-15 assault rifles from gun owners if elected, and how he plans to fund his ambitious $16 trillion climate change proposal. (snip)

Sanders admitted that it is a “very expensive” and “very detailed” program that’s estimated to cost $16 trillion, but he intends to pay for it by cutting the $4 billion subsidies and tax breaks he said the fossil fuel industry currently receives. He added that he also plans to get the federal government to produce sustainable energy and sell it to international utility companies, which he said will make “a lot of money.”

Another course of action: “We are going to end military protection that now exists for oil producers around world and that is going to save billions. Hundreds of billions of dollars.”

According to Sanders, that strategy will “kind of” pay for the plan, which also includes creating about 20 million new jobs that are geared toward pulling away from fossil fuels and moving toward using sustainable energy.

Says the guy who has three homes and jets all around the country. But, hey, he’s not worried, because he’s part of the bourgeoisie, and not particularly concerned with rising prices from his policies for his own life. You? Have fun.

He knows it’s a lofty goal, but for him, the alternative is like a “raging fire” in a building that people will try to ignore if it suits them. “We have got to put out the fire that is now raging all over the world or else, the planet that we live to our children, and our grandchildren—my grandson is right here; I have 7 beautiful grandchildren—and the planet we leave to future generations will be increasingly unhealthy and unlivable,” he concluded. “From a moral perspective, we cannot do that.”

Not A Cult: Church Of Sweden Calls Greta Thunberg “Successor Of Christ”

I wonder if they explained this to the 64% of Swedes who do not believe that ‘climate change’ is mostly/solely caused by Mankind?

(Watts Up With That?) Via Bibliatodo Noticias via Google Translate:

Greta Thunberg activist is proclaimed “Successor of Christ” by Church of Sweden

For [her] defense of the environment, the Swedish church has claimed that activist Greta Thunberg is the “successor of Jesus Christ” at this time.

“Ad! Jesus of Nazareth has now named one of his successors, Greta Thunberg, ” wrote the Limhamns Kyrka church on Twitter.

OK, it’s not particularly new, but, it does show how utterly unhinged this is.

House Democrats Carefully Attempt To Sell Impeach In Their Home Districts Or Something

If this was such a slam dunk why would they have to be careful about it? They would just lay out the facts, right? No hyperbole, no soft-shoe

Back Home, House Democrats Tread Carefully on Impeachment and 2020

Orange County was the epicenter of the 2018 House Democratic takeover, where Republicans lost four seats in what was once the heart of Ronald Reagan conservatism in California. On Saturday night, as three of the victorious Democrats were honored at an annual political dinner, a new battle was on everyone’s minds: How to protect those gains in 2020 by selling voters on the impeachment inquiry of President Trump.

At the dinner, Representative Harley Rouda warned Democrats not to “sit on our laurels.” Representative Mike Levin solemnly said “the times have found us.” And Representative Gil Cisneros, who came out for the inquiry only last week, plugged his campaign website twice to ask for donations and noted, “The Republicans are coming after me now.”

A tricky balancing act is now underway for House Democrats as they return to their districts for a two-week recess that will double as a crucial time to frame a coast-to-coast debate over impeachment and the nation’s priorities.

Even as surveys showed more Americans embracing an impeachment investigation, voters talked mostly about issues like health care and the economy over the weekend at town hall meetings and party gatherings with House Democrats. Those members, especially in battleground districts, responded by highlighting their policy accomplishments and goals — while at the same time attempting to shape public opinion on impeachment and prepare voters for coming G.O.P. attacks.

hat Democratic messaging challenge came into sharp relief during interviews with voters like Donna Artukovic, a retired teacher who was volunteering at the Orange County dinner. Ms. Artukovic expressed nervousness about what an impeachment battle could mean for Democratic candidates.

“I am afraid it’s going to hurt them,” she said. “A lot of people — even who don’t like Trump — don’t like impeachment.”

Why do they have to be so careful? Because they know it’s only really popular among their unhinged base. They know that the more they talk about it, the more people will want information on Joe Biden and his son’s activities. They’ll want to know what Adam Schiff, tasked by Pelosi with leading the impeachment inquiry, and other Democrats were doing contacting Ukraine to get dirt on Trump. They’ll get a good look at how unhinged Schiff is, and see that this is about hatred. They’ll wonder why Democrats don’t just try to beat him at the ballot box.

The first independent polling since Democrats began the inquiry carries reassuring news for them — as well as some cautionary signs. A CBS News survey released Sunday indicated that 55 percent of Americans support an impeachment investigation, with Democrats now overwhelmingly supportive and independents about evenly divided. But only 42 percent of those surveyed said Mr. Trump deserved to be impeached, with 22 percent saying it was too soon to determine. This uncertainty is why House Democratic leaders are at pains to emphasize that they are not yet seeking to impeach Mr. Trump, but rather that they want to conduct a thorough investigation into his actions with the Ukranians.

And that’s also why they have to be careful, because Americans have seen this show before: Russia Russia Russia didn’t turn out particularly well for Democrats. This all just makes Democrats look like petulant children upset that they lost an election and are unable to accept the outcome. And with Trump, he’s more than happy to let everyone know that the Democrats are crazy. He doesn’t play nice like previous Republicans. Yes, yes, he may go overboard at times, but, think that doesn’t get people to pay attention to his points? And get people the average person to see his points?

Democrats should also remember that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If they want to set the condition which political disagreements are grounds for impeachment inquiries, Republicans can do the same against a Democrat president.

Poll: Voters Want To Tackle Hotcoldwetdry In Theory, Not So Much In Practice

Unsurprisingly, anthropogenic climate change is actually a low hanging issue

Voters want to tackle climate change — but not at expense of kitchen table issues

As the nation prepares for the 2020 election, two major issues have emerged, especially for the Democratic field: income inequality and climate change.

Not surprisingly, these were the major themes in the Green New Deal (GND), a congressional resolution introduced in February by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.). The GND has again taken center stage with two recent presidential candidate climate change forums and all the activities surrounding climate week including mass protests across the country, activist Greta Thunberg’s prominence and the United Nations Climate Summit.

But is climate change at the top of voters’ minds? And how do they feel about some of the proposed actions and policies put forth by experts and politicians?

A new poll conducted by Morning Consult, on behalf of the American Council for Capital Formation, shows that the vast majority of adults (81 percent) worry about the quality of the environment, and over half say climate change is happening and that it is caused by human activity. But when asked “What is the top issue on your mind when you cast your vote for federal offices?” the most common responses are the economy and jobs (19 percent) followed by health care (16 percent). Only 7 percent mentioned climate change as their top concern.

Funny how that keeps happening. People just really do not care in practice about this stuff. Especially when

Another emerging theme from the survey is that people do not want to spend their own money to combat climate change. Thirty-seven percent do not want to pay any additional taxes, and only 14 percent are willing to pay even $1 more a month.

Since the GND promotes a 100 percent switch to renewables, we also asked whether people would be willing to pay more in various costs to support such a switch. A resounding 70 percent of respondents said they are unwilling to pay more in electric bills, 66 percent are unwilling to pay more in taxes, and 67 percent are unwilling to pay more in food costs to see a shift to 100 percent renewable energy.

It gets more fun with paying more

Just 27% are willing to pay more than $5 extra a month. And only 10% more than $20.  Further, from the Morning Consult poll

When given more information about natural gas and its clean energy nature, abundance, and source of cutting carbon emissions, a majority (70%) of adults support continued use of natural gas for electricity.

70% of respondents are not willing to pay more in electric bills, 67% are not willing to pay more in transportation costs, 66% are not willing to pay more in taxes, and 67% are not willing to pay more in food costs to see a shift to 100% renewable energy.

And, this poll has a Dem/GOP/Independent breakdown of 38/33/29, so, an oversampling of Dems and they still do not care in practice. And this Hotcoldwetdry push isn’t moving the needle for Independents. Keep pushing, Warmists.

Bummer: Less Than Half Of Citizens Think Ukraine Issue As Serious Problem

Now, if this poll went the other way, it would be a featured article at the top of the webpage and page 1 in the dead tree edition. Since it is mostly good for Trump, it’s buried down in the politics section

Most Americans are ‘not surprised’ Trump asked the Ukrainian government to investigate Biden

The vast majority of Americans are not surprised that President Trump encouraged the Ukrainian president to investigate former vice president Joe Biden’s son, and fewer than half see it as a “very serious” problem, an ABC News-Ipsos poll released Sunday indicates.

Just about half of those polled said they are “not surprised at all” to hear of Trump’s actions. An additional 32 percent said they are “not surprised.”

The national poll, conducted Friday and Saturday, also finds that 63 percent of adults say it is a serious problem that Trump pushed the president of Ukraine to investigate the son of his potential 2020 opponent Joe Biden in a July call that has sparked an extraordinary whistleblower complaint and led Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry. Less than half of those polled, 43 percent, said Trump’s action was “very serious.” (snip)

Despite the Ukraine story dominating headlines, just about one-quarter of adults say they have followed the news “very closely.” More than 6 in 10 say they are following the issue at least “somewhat closely.”

As the short article notes, Democrats are betting that citizens will get behind the impeachment probe, but, not enough people think it is very serious, and not enough people are paying attention heavily. Further, that people were not surprised about the call could well mean that people understand Joe Biden and his son are rather shady and used Joe’s position to enrich themselves.

From ABC, which has a link to the actual poll in the article, we find

In a polarized electorate, attitudes about the severity of Trump’s actions broke strongly along partisan lines, with Democrats three times as likely to find the conversation a very or somewhat serious problem — 91% of Democrats compared with 32% of Republicans.

Democrats also were even more likely to have the most intense feelings, with nearly 3 in 4, about 72%, saying they thought the president’s comments were a very serious problem, compared to 41% of Independents.

So, Independents are rather blase about the whole thing. That’s really not helping the Democrat cause. Nor is this other article in the Washington Post

Pelosi turns to Schiff to lead House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry of Trump

No need to go beyond the headline: Pelosi is turning to one of the most Trump Deranged people in the U.S. Congress to lead this inquiry, a guy who makes things up, like he did Thursday (of course CNN is protecting him), and has claimed a gazillion times that he had the evidence against Trump for the Russia Russia Russia probe, and never showed it.

And this

(Breitbart) On Saturday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) wondered why, if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) believes President Trump should be removed from office, “why did she then leave town for two weeks?”

Scalise said, “[I]f they were so serious, why did Adam Schiff have to start his committee hearing with a parody, a joke, trying to make fun of this and actually lying about what really happened and trying to make up a conversation between the president and Ukraine President Zelensky? Why, by the way, if it’s so serious, and think about this, Nancy Pelosi is saying she wants to start impeachment proceedings against a president of the United States. She didn’t even require a House floor vote, which has always been the case to start impeachment. But, if she really thought he should be removed, why did she then leave town for two weeks?”

Things move pretty fast. What will be happening in two weeks? We had been talking a lot about gun control, now it’s deranged impeachment, what of two weeks from now?

UN Flies In Jason Momoa For ‘Climate Change’, Exposes His Hatred Of Humanity

One has to wonder what was the carbon footprint of filming, distributing, and showing his movies? All the fossil fuels for travel for filming, all those who went to the theaters in fossil fueled vehicles. But, hey, I’ll be happy to skip all future Jason movies

What’s the carbon footprint in flying him in from Los Angelos?

(TMZ) Jason Momoa says we can’t wait any longer … the time to address the climate crisis is now, and he’s calling on all world leaders to quit “half-assing it” and go all in.

The “Aquaman” star and ocean activist addressed the United Nations Friday on behalf of small island nations, and made a direct and sobering plea for delegates to take a stand to save the planet.

The actor began by describing how his background has shown him how different places can be “oblivious to another” … but by abusing the environment, we are all hurting each other.

Momoa runs through a depressing list of the Earth’s current issues — rising sea levels, vanishing ecosystems, devastating plastic pollution — largely placing blame on the emissions and corporate greed of first world countries.

Momoa continues by calling on leaders to honor the Paris Agreement — which President Trump withdrew the U.S. from in 2017 — and demanding “global unity for a global crisis” to begin righting the wrongs we’ve committed for our children.

Aquaman, and the other movies he was in, were filmed all over the planet. And he couldn’t just telecommute for the U.N. thing? But, hey, science!

He closed by shouting “KÅ« KiaÊ»i Mauna” and putting up a triangle hand gesture, which Hawaiians know to be a show of support for the effort to stop the 30-meter telescope on Mauna Kea, the island’s tallest mountain.

Momoa has actually flown in for those protests, which are blocking construction, and end up blocking the use of existing telescopes, which perform actual science. Just another hypocritical celebuwarmist.
