I mentioned back last Saturday about a Bill to be introduced by Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM) and other Republicans, and it was passed on Tuesday (from the Washington Times)
House Republicans tonight surprised Democrats with a procedural vote to protect public-transportation passengers from being sued if they report suspicious activity — the first step by lawmakers to protect "John Doe" airline travelers already targeted in such a lawsuit.
After a heated debate and calls for order, the motion to recommit the Democrats' Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007 back to committee with instructions to add the protective language passed on a vote of 304-121.
Guess what? All 121 voting AGAINST passing the civil rights of American citizens to not worry about being sued for reporting suspicious behavior were, yup!, Democrats.
Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, opposed the motion over loud objections from colleagues on the House floor, forcing several calls to order from the chair.
"Absolutely they should have the ability to seek redress in a court of law," said Mr. Thompson, who suggested that protecting passengers from a lawsuit would encourage racial profiling.
"This might be well-intended, but it has unintended consequences," Mr. Thompson said, before he accepted the motion to recommit.
Yeah, unintended consequences like peoples 1st Amendment rights. Democrats sure do not want that! Per Little Green Footballs, here is the Roll Call, which, I am sorry, but not surprised, to say includes my own sorry azz Democratic rep, Brad Miller, as well as Butterfield, Price, and Watt from North Carolina. For shame!
Rusty at My Pet Jawa has much more, as does Michelle Malkin.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (Defeatocrat-Ms) was on Fox, or FAUX, as the Left jealously calls it, and said that "we are a nation of laws, and settle our differences in court." Why? Why do we have to settle everything in court? Why can't we settle our differences by talking about them, and with Tazers at 20 paces when talking fails? Because liberals love to sue people, groups, and companies to force them to comply with their agenda's, rather then the freedom promised in the Declaration of Independence.
