Iran Releases Video Of Captured Female Sailor, Plus Letter

In a propaganda move, Iran released this video of the captured female British sailor, Faye Turney (the important parts are in the first two minutes)

Video: Captured British Sailor Speaks

From the BBC

Iranian state television has broadcast an interview with captured British sailor Faye Turney and footage of the 14 servicemen seized with her.

Leading Seaman Turney, 26, said they had been seized in the Gulf because "obviously we trespassed" in Iranian waters – something the UK disputes.

She said her captors had been friendly and the 15 personnel were unharmed.

Now, besides the obvious coercion in saying those things, isn't it kinda against the Geneva Conventions to broadcast pictures or videos of captured "enemies?" Granted, no state of war exists, but, didn't the Left around the world pitch a major league hissy fit over the photos of Saddam in his skivvies?

There was also an accompanying letter, via CNN, of which they wrote: Editor's note: CNN cannot confirm that British sailor Faye Turney wrote the following letter or if she was forced to write a letter under duress.

Dear Mum & Dad,

I am writing to you from Iran where I am being held. I will try to explain to you the best what has happened.

We were out in the boats when we were arrested by Iranian forces as we had apparently gone into Iranian waters.

I wish we hadn't because then I'd be home with you all right now. I am so sorry we did because I know we wouldn't be here now if we hadn't.

I want you all to know that I am well and safe. I am being well looked after. I am fed three meals a day and have a constant supply of fluids. The people are friendly and hospitable, very compassionate and warm.

I have written a letter to the Iranian people to apologize for us entering into their waters.

Please don't worry about me, I am staying strong. Hopefully it won't be long until I am home to get ready for Molly's birthday party with a present from the Iranian people.

Look after everyone for me, especially Adam and Molly. I love you all more than you will ever know.

All my love, Faye

Coercion? Certainly the Left wouldn't buy into the propaganda, as well as blame America and Britian, right? For the second time in as many days, au contraire, rabbit!

Hot Air: Naturally, they’ve slapped a headscarf on her.

The Bullwinkle Blog has video, too.

Michelle M. has lots more.

Rick at Right Wing Nut House has a very interesting essay on Brits yawn as Iran declares war.

Sister Toldjah has a good roundup.

Captain Ed notices the Geneva Convention violation, too, as he quotes Convention III, Article 13:

Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity.

He also writes: Once again, we strain to hear the cries of those who display such sensitivity to the widest possible interpretation of the GC when the conduct of the US or its allies are in question. So far, we have not heard any outcry from a definite violation and the threat of another from a non-Western nation.

I hope Ed isn’t planning on holding his breath. So far, most of the usual suspects have completely ignored this story, or been, “eh, whatever.”
