Virginia Democrat on possible shutdown: ‘It’s time to stand up for the American people’

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.) said he supports Democrats’ threats to shut down the government if Republicans proceed with a planned rescissions package, saying his party should use all the leverage they can to prevent cuts to previously approved funding.

“I say it’s time to stand up for the American people,” Subramanyam said in an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” when asked what he thinks about a potential shutdown.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or a Republican. I mean, I’m hearing from both sides. They’re fed up with this administration, and they want to see some changes, not just in this administration, but even in the Democratic Party,” he continued.

“And, so, yes, absolutely, the time to fight was yesterday,” he added.

Republicans are ramping up efforts to pass a rescissions package that President Trump requested last month, which includes more than $9 billion in funding cuts for foreign aid and public broadcasting programs.

So, what are these cuts? From that “Democrats’ threats” link

Democrats are referring to a package of funding cuts Senate Republicans hope to take up in the coming days that calls for $8.3 billion in cuts to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and foreign aid, and more than $1 billion in cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which provides some funding to NPR and PBS.

How is it standing up for the American people when $8.3 billion is for USAID, meaning the money goes to foreign nations?

Also, why is any money going to USAID? I thought that was shut down? Also also, Dems are upset because USAID really ends up being a slush fund, as the appropriation ends up being spread to friendly NGOs who take their cut to do nothing but give some money to other NGOs/companies (and lots goes back into Democrats’ coffers), and a whopping 12% ends up being used as actual aid.

But, hey, if Democrats really want to shut down the government over this, have at it. This won’t look good.

UK Energy Secretary Says UK’s Way Of Life Under Threat From Global Boiling

Miliband says UK’s way of life ‘under threat’ amid extremes of heat and rainfall

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said Britain’s way of life is “under threat” from climate change as the Met Office said extremes of heat and rainfall are becoming the norm.

The latest state of the UK climate report, published in the Royal Meteorological Society’s International Journal of Climatology, shows the impact of human-caused global warming on the UK’s weather, seas, people and wildlife.

For the first time, the report also found UK sea levels to be rising faster than the global average.

There’s zero evidence to support that, which is why they do not publish it.

The Energy Secretary called the findings “a stark warning” to take action on climate and nature.

“Our British way of life is under threat,” Mr Miliband told the PA news agency.

“Whether it is extreme heat, droughts, flooding, we can see it actually with our own eyes, that it’s already happening, and we need to act.

“That’s why the Government has a central mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower and tackle the climate crisis.”

And, this gives the government more authority to crack down on their citizens, whether they like it or not. But, maybe they should be worried about something else

Bummer: Chicago Is Broke From Taking Care Of All Those Illegals, So, They’re Laying Off Teachers

So, um, where are all the liberals out in the street caterwauling like they did with the State Department flunkies let go

Perhaps spending $638 million on “migrants” during the Biden years wasn’t the best of ideas? Around $300 million was Chicago/Illinois money

(NBC Chicago) Chicago Public Schools laid off nearly 1,500 teachers and staff members on Friday, citing changes in school enrollment and academic programming, district officials said.

CPS, in a press release announcing the job cuts, said the majority of employees impacted by layoffs have historically obtained new positions within the district ahead of the new school year, and it once again expects that to be the case.

The district typically announces layoffs in June following an evaluation of staffing and sources, however, staffing adjustments were pushed back due to delays in CPS’ budget process.

“These staffing adjustments are part of a systemwide effort to align resources more equitably and strategically based on school enrollment trends, academic programming, and student needs,” the district said in the statement, in part.

In other words, they’re broke.

According to the union, the job cuts amount to roughly 1% of the workforce, which is “far lower” than layoffs experienced by CTU members in 2024.

Wait, what? Did you know that there are almost 47,000 working for CPS? Out of a population of 2.66 million. That’s 1/56 of the population. Even though attendance is down over 10%. Seems excessive. 30% o the schools are half empty. There is tons of violence.

(Wirepoints) Across CPS, outcomes are embarrassingly bad. Only 27 percent can read at grade level and just 24 percent are proficient in math.

Well, I’m sure the laid off teachers can find other lucrative jobs in city government.

Wacko Judge Telling Trump And Congress They Can’t Defund Planned Parenthood Goes More Wackadoodle

I rarely blog about abortion, but, sometimes there’s something that is super moonbat. Like

(CBS News) A judge on Monday temporarily barred the Trump administration from revoking Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, partially freezing a provision of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act just days after President Trump signed it into law.

The temporary restraining order by U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani lasts 14 days and directs the Department of Health and Human Services to “take all steps necessary to ensure that Medicaid funding continues to be disbursed” to Planned Parenthood. The ruling, which came after a lawsuit from Planned Parenthood, doesn’t apply to any other health care providers.

The lawsuit takes aim at a portion of Mr. Trump’s signature domestic policy bill that would cut off any federal Medicaid funding to groups “primarily engaged in family planning services, reproductive health, and related medical care” that provide abortions.

So, basically, a law passed by the duly elected Legislative Branch and signed by the duly elected head of the Executive Branch is supposed to be overruled by one rogue judge? Even if Talwani had the authority to do this it would only apply to her district, that of Massachusetts. But, really, where does it say in the Constitution that private companies must be funded for abortion, particularly when said company makes $1.5 billion a year gross? Oh, wait, she wants to triple dog dare moonbat

She needs to be impeached. Even if the Democrats in the Senate will never vote to boot her, it will jam her up for months

(Reuters) But in light of the Trump administration’s request, she issued a new, amended temporary restraining order, opens new tab making clear that she had concluded Planned Parenthood was likely to succeed in proving the law violated the U.S. Constitution.

I cannot see any part of the 1st that applies. Nor on the 5th

Talwani said as a result, the law burdened the right of Planned Parenthood’s 47 members to associate with each other and their parent organization, which advocates in favor of reproductive health care policies, in likely violation of the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment.

“The Supreme Court has ‘long understood as implicit in the right to engage in activities protected by the First Amendment a corresponding right to associate with others’ in pursuit of desired political, educational, or social ends,” she wrote, citing a 1984 Supreme Court ruling.

They’re welcome to associate with the others. What they are not welcome to is taxpayer money for their operations. Congress has the Constitutional power to determine what to fund and what not to fund. Government programs have no rights except those specifically mentioned in Article I sections 8-10.

Pirate Ship Of The Buzzard Reportedly Found

Archaeologists Say They’ve Found a Legendary Pirate Ship, Rewriting History

Archaeologists say they have discovered a legendary pirate shipwreck off the coast of Madagascar.

The findings were announced in a research article by Brandon A. Clifford and Mark R. Agostini of the Center for Historic Shipwreck Preservation in Massachusetts.

“This study presents archaeological evidence supporting the identification of a unique 18th-century shipwreck at Îlot Madame, off the coast of Sainte-Marie Island, Madagascar, as the Nossa Senhora do Cabo, a Portuguese treasure ship captured by pirates Olivier Levasseur (La Buse) and John Taylor in 1721,” they wrote.

Levasseur was “a French buccaneer colloquially known as La Buse or ‘The Buzzard’ for his swift and predatory tactics, remains one of the most enigmatic figures in the captivating history of piracy,” Discovery Channel UK notes.

According to the Golden Age of Piracy, the capture of the Nostra Senora della Cabo was a famed heist that saw the two pirates “capture a massive Portuguese treasure ship sailing out of the city of Goa. The massive 700-ton ship was carrying the Bishop of Goa, also known as the Patriarch of the East Indies along with the retiring Viceroy of Portugal. They were both returning to Lisbon with all of their wealth and artifacts when the ship was damaged in a storm.”

The treasure was supposed to include the Flaming Cross of Goa, a 7 foot tall solid gold cross inlaid with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies.

What’s the evidence?

“Artifacts recovered from the site include exported Chinese porcelain, religious artifacts of Goan origin, coinage, cowrie shells, and construction materials consistent with Portuguese East Indian design,” the researchers wrote. “The archaeological assemblage recovered from the site corresponds with historical descriptions of the Cabo’s cargo, route, and subsequent refit and final renaming by La Buse as the Victorieux.”

So, where’s the rest of the treasure? Some think in the Reunion Island area, which is owned by France (longest domestic flight on Earth), as pirates were a heavy presence there. And that’s where La Buse hintimated it was buried when he threw his coded parchment into the crowd before being hung by the neck, and said “with what I buried here I could buy this island.”

He was also featured on and Expedition Unknown episode. I think there was some series on pirates on Hbo Max I watched, but, no longer subscribed.

Wacko Judge Issues Sort Of Restraining Order Again ICE Or Something

On one hand, this Biden appointed wacko followed the Supreme Court ruling, as her ruling only applies to her district. On the other, she thinks she’s Congress or the Executive Branch and can set all ICE’s policies

Federal judge issues temporary restraining order curtailing Trump’s immigration enforcement in California

A federal judge in Los Angeles late Friday issued a sweeping temporary restraining order (TRO) against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ruling that the agency likely violated constitutional protections through its immigration enforcement practices in California.

In a 53-page order issued Friday, U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, a Biden appointee, barred ICE from conducting detentive stops in the Central District of California unless agents have “reasonable suspicion” that a person is in the country unlawfully.

Frimpong’s ruling explicitly prohibits ICE from relying solely on race or ethnicity, speaking Spanish or English with an accent, location, or type of work when forming suspicion, citing the Fourth Amendment.

The order also requires ICE to keep and turn over detailed records of each stop and agents’ reasoning for them, develop official guidance for determining “reasonable suspicion,” and implement mandatory training for agents.

Who are they to turn the records over to? Not finding that information in any article. Realistically, it’s a very silly order that just feeds the Democrats narrative about random stops, but

(ABC7 LA) “Claims that individuals have been targeted’ by law enforcement because of their skin color are disgusting and categorically FALSE. DHS enforcement operations are highly targeted, and officers do their due diligence,” according to DHS.

“ICE detention facilities have higher standards than most U.S. prisons that hold actual U.S. citizens,” DHS previously stated. “These types of smears are designed to demonize and villainize our brave ICE law enforcement. This garbage has directly led to a nearly 700 percent increase in the assaults on ICE law enforcement officers.”

ICE had all those Biden years to know who was here illegally and where they are, especially if they have committed crimes. When they are jacking someone off the street it’s because they have the information that they are an illegal alien. When they are hitting a marijuana farm it’s because they know specific illegals are there.

Frimpong’s order reinforces their Fifth Amendment claim, requiring ICE to ensure immediate legal access for detainees. The temporary restraining order will remain in effect pending further litigation.

Wait, illegal alien supporters state that being unlawfully present is not a criminal violation of the law, but a civil one, so, there is no requirement for legal representation. And you know that the detentions by ICE will continue unabated in the wacko judge’s district

ICE should slam the judge’s office with all the arrest records that she wants. In triplicate. Double spacing. Write them like a Congressional bill.

Europe Doubles Down Climate (scam) Science Or Something

Trump has had a tough go in getting Europe to spend on their own defense all while EU nations are fearporning on the threat from Russia, but, they’re happy to Worry about ‘climate change’

As NASA’s budget shrinks, Europe doubles down on Earth science: ‘Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation’

As climate extremes intensify and global tipping points loom, Earth science has never been more vital — but not everyone is treating it that way.

In the United States, NASA’s science programs are facing historic funding cuts. A new proposed federal budget slashes the agency’s Earth science division by nearly half and downsizes its workforce by a third.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the European Space Agency (ESA) is taking the opposite approach. At the Living Planet Symposium 2025, held in Vienna, Austria, ESA leadership showcased the agency’s ambitious forward-looking vision for Earth observation, one that extends not just to the next fiscal cycle but decades into the future.

“Earth observation within the organization [ESA], agency is a major priority,” said ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher during the ESA Living Planet 2025 opening ceremony.

The proposed budget would cancel several flagship missions and reduce NASA’s ability to monitor wildfires, atmospheric carbon, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events — all during what scientists say is the most critical decade for climate action.

So, was the US supposed to monitor the rest of the world for free forever? Most of the NASA personnel being cut are unnecessary, they’re climate hysterics, and/or do the same job as many others unnecessarily.

Leaders at the Living Planet Symposium laid out a bold, long-term approach to Earth and climate science, centered on collaboration, innovation, and open access.

“Climate change is the defining challenge of our generation, requiring us to transform observation into immediate action, the energy transition and sustainable development of our infrastructure demand reasonable steps from all of us,” said Peter Hanke, Austrian Federal Minister of Innovation Mobility and Infrastructure, during the opening ceremony.

Who’s paying for it? Higher taxes in the EU? Where’s the money coming from? And do the citizens in the EU approve of this?
