Washington Post Provides Religious Test For Santorum

I’d be nice if some liberal somewhere actually read the Constitution now and then

(WP) That Mr. Santorum believes he has the standing to declaim on the rightness of Mr. Obama’s faith, and whether it is sufficiently Bible-based, is in itself disqualifying.

Funny how Obama’s religion wasn’t an issue in 2008, despite sitting in the pews of a hate preacher for 20 years. But, what the WP editorial board doesn’t like is that Santorum is vocal on his faith and beliefs from a strong Christian point of view, with all those annoying morals.

Richard Cohen further goes on to compare Santorum to a Taliban Mullah

Mullah Rick has spoken. (snip all the way to the end)

Rick Santorum is not, as some would have it, the Republican Party’s problem. The GOP is half the political equation, and so its inability to offer candidates of sound views and judgments is everyone’s problem. We have to vote for someone after all. But when I mull Santorum’s views on contraception, the role of women, the proper place for religion and what he thinks about education, I think he’s either running for president of the wrong country or marooned in the wrong century. The man is lost.

Cohen never mentions the Taliban or Afghanistan (and would never dare, like most liberals wouldn’t, denigrate a real Taliban Mullah), yet, what else are we supposed to think?

I’m starting to think that Liberals are actually very concerned about Santorum getting the GOP nomination, with the ability to beat Obama.

James Inhofe: Climate Realists Have Beaten Warmists On Cap And Trade

But, to my way of thinking, Realists have to keep the fight up against the Warmists, who will keep attempting to enact their legislation and regulation. I once asked Ed Morrissey, back when he was still at Captain’s Quarters, why he bothered exposing the 9/11 Truthers, since they were basically wackjobs and conspiracy nuts. He said that things like Trutherism need to be exposed like cockroaches to sunlight, otherwise, they slowly breed and create more cockroaches. Same with anthropogenic global warming

(Daily Caller) Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, the ranking Republican member of the Environment and Public Works committee, told The Daily Caller on Monday that climate change skeptics have won the debate over global warming on Capitol Hill.

“We’ve won the fight because there’s no way in the world they could pass through legislation a cap and trade bill,” Inhofe said, referring to proposed laws that would limit carbon emissions. “It’s dead, gone, forever.”

Inhofe, the author of “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future,” says that he initially believed claims that humans were responsible for climate change. But after reviewing the science behind the claim, Inhofe now says he believes that the theory is a lie, and that the United Nations is largely responsible for promoting it.

If Warmists have any brains, they’ll stop jumping sharks at every turn, and embrace real world solutions to our energy needs. Their over the top unhinged moonbattery has actually harmed the alternative energy debate, and harmed real environmentalism. They won’t stop, though, because the debate was never about Mother Earth, but, about taxation and control.

One way skeptics have won the debate, Inhofe said, is by debunking “every assertion” in “Al Gore’s science fiction movie” — a reference to the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.” He also alluded to polls indicating that Americans have grown much more skeptical of global warming claims in recent years.

Debunking Warmist assertions has always been the most difficult, because they set up their pseudo-religion as non-disprovable, where everything is the result of someone taking an unnecessary fossil fueled drive to the grocery store and failing to use recyclable bags.

When asked what he thought proponents of the belief in man-made global warming have to gain from peddling ideas they know to be false, Inhofe demurred.

“I can’t answer the question because I’m not a liberal, so I don’t know what their motive is other than the fact it’s quite evident that they feel they want to be in a position to run everybody else’s life,” he said.

That is the point of their push: otherwise, Warmists might actually practice what they preach, instead of being the worst offenders.

Cantor And Fincher Triple Dog Dare Obama With JOBS Act

Late Monday night, an opinion piece by GOP Representatives Eric Cantor and Stephen Fincher was published at The Politico, highlighting the GOP’s JOBS Act. After a bit of background into the importance of small businesses in the jobs market, and the regulations and red tape that block them (and the pair avoid playing the Blame Game, something Obama is not doing when it comes to his, well, everything), we get

President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address asked Congress to send him a bill that helps small businesses and entrepreneurs succeed. That is exactly what we intend to do.

Last year, the House worked on a series of bills to remove regulatory barriers that are holding back entrepreneurs and small businesses. Today, we are unveiling a bipartisan legislative package that puts all of these items together: the JOBS Act — Jumpstart Our Business Startups. This represents an important opportunity to work together to help our small-business startups grow, create jobs and get the economy back on track.

The JOBS Act contains several measures to remove the obstacles preventing small businesses and startups from accessing the capital they need to grow. A measure championed by House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) repeals the solicitation ban on companies trying to raise capital, and North Carolina Rep. Patrick McHenry’s bill removes the ban on “crowdfunding,” enabling entrepreneurs to pool investments from smaller investors.

A measure from Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona eases shareholder threshold regulations that slam small businesses with costly requirements before they have the capital to comply. And a bill by Rep. Ben Quayle, also of Arizona, modifies securities regulations governing the registration of small bank holding companies.

Sounds like a well thought out piece of legislation, one which makes use of the recommendations of Obama’s own Jobs and Economic Competitive Council.

In a time marked by partisan battles and finger-pointing between the White House and Congress, the JOBS Act is an opportunity for both parties in Washington to work together and produce results for our nation’s small businesses and entrepreneurs. We are hopeful that the president will stand by his State of the Union pledge and work with us to pass an agenda that helps entrepreneurs succeed. The president called on Congress to put the measures in a bill and “get it on my desk this year.”

Here it is, Mr. President.

It’s not quite a triple dog dare, but, the opinion piece certainly puts Obama on the spot. Of course, Cantor and Fincher should have been daring Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat, to bring the JOBS Act up for a vote on the Senate floor quickly, since, based on other GOP economic legislation, it will probably die in committee. The legislation is sure to pass quickly in the House. The interesting part will come in seeing how many Democrats vote in the positive for the legislation. Will they put their partisanship aside and vote for making it easier and less costly for small businesses, or vote to continue making life difficult for them?

Will Obama step up and embrace the JOBS Act, and push for quick passage? Or, will he blow it off, or even campaign against small business?

72% Think Health Insurance Mandate Is Unconstitutional

I think Team Obama has finally found their new slogan “who cares about that pesky old Constitution”

(Boston Herald) Nearly two years after President Barack Obama signed his landmark health care package into law, three-quarters of registered voters believe the law’s requirement that every American carry health insurance is unconstitutional, according to a new survey.

Let’s take a look at the breakdown of the Gallup poll, shall we?

Amazing! Even 56% of Democrats think the mandate is unconstitutional. Yet, I’m betting those some Dems would mostly still support the Mandate, if asked.  If you look at Independent thought on this and the other questions in the poll, you see that they are pretty much against Obamacare and the Mandate.

Obama’s Signature Legislation, Which He Won’t Talk About, Hurts Obama In Swing States

It’s no wonder Obama and the Democrats do not want to discuss their signature, crowning legislation: it’s still unpopular, especially in swing states

(USA Today) The health care overhaul that President Obama intended to be the signature achievement of his first term instead has become a significant problem in his bid for a second one, uniting Republicans in opposition and eroding his standing among independents.

That’s because most people aren’t idiots, and understand that ObamaCare will actually drive costs up while eroding actual health care.

In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of the nation’s dozen top battleground states, a clear majority of registered voters call the bill’s passage “a bad thing” and support its repeal if a Republican wins the White House in November. Two years after he signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act— and as the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments about its constitutionality next month — the president has failed to convince most Americans that it was the right thing to do.

In the poll, Obama lags the two leading Republican rivals in the 12 states likely to determine the outcome of a close race in November:

•Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum tops Obama 50%-45% in the swing states. Nationwide, Santorum’s lead narrows to 49%-46%.

•Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney edges Obama 48%-46% in the swing states. Nationwide, they are tied at 47% each.

It’s not really true that Obama doesn’t ever talk about Obamacare, he just tends to do it at closed fundraisers where rich people are paying $30k a plate, and do not really care, because they aren’t worried about their health care going in the crapper.

Bummer: “Climate Change” Hoax Will Cause Volcanoes And Earthquakes

Sadly, this isn’t a repeat of the previous fantasies, this is actually a new story proclaiming that someone charging their iPhone will cause all manners of bad geologic things to happen

(UK Guardian) The idea that a changing climate can persuade the ground to shake, volcanoes to rumble and tsunamis to crash on to unsuspecting coastlines seems, at first, to be bordering on the insane. How can what happens in the thin envelope of gas that shrouds and protects our world possibly influence the potentially Earth-shattering processes that operate deep beneath the surface? The fact that it does reflects a failure of our imagination and a limited understanding of the manner in which the different physical components of our planet – the atmosphere, the oceans, and the solid Earth, or geosphere – intertwine and interact.

Got that? If you don’t believe, you have no imagination. Personally, I have plenty of imagination for fiction, but, I don’t pretend that so many of the science fiction books I read, which tend to gravitate towards futuristic, fanciful, and zombies, are real. Same with the mystery/thriller books I read.

The most spectacular geological effects were reserved for high latitudes (note: the writer is referring to the end of the last glacial period). Here, the crust across much of northern Europe and North America had been forced down by hundreds of metres and held at bay for tens of thousands of years beneath the weight of sheets of ice 20 times thicker than the height of the London Eye. As the ice dissipated in soaring temperatures, the crust popped back up like a coiled spring released, at the same time tearing open major faults and triggering great earthquakes in places where they are unheard of today. Even now, the crust underpinning those parts of Europe and North America formerly imprisoned beneath the great continental ice sheets continues to rise – albeit at a far more sedate rate.

There is, of course, some validity to the notion. Of course, volcanoes and earthquakes happened before the end of the last ice age, but, come on, any that happen nowadays are Mankind’s fault for living a modern lifestyle. The writer builds up his story, adding a bit here and there, mentioning this volcano, that earthquake, this tsunami, and finally gets to

So what – geologically speaking – can we look forward to if we continue to pump out greenhouse gases at the current hell-for-leather rate? With resulting global average temperatures likely to be several degrees higher by this century’s end, we could almost certainly say an eventual goodbye to the Greenland ice sheet, and probably that covering West Antarctica too, committing us – ultimately – to a 10-metre or more hike in sea levels.

Except, sea levels are actually falling. Sucks when science interferes with unhinged cult like beliefs, eh? But, it Could Happen!

The bottom line is that through our climate-changing activities we are loading the dice in favour of escalating geological havoc at a time when we can most do without it. Unless there is a dramatic and completely unexpected turnaround in the way in which the human race manages itself and the planet, then long-term prospects for our civilisation look increasingly grim. At a time when an additional 220,000 people are lining up at the global soup kitchen each and every night; when energy, water and food resources are coming under ever-growing pressure, and when the debilitating effects of anthropogenic climate change are insinuating themselves increasingly into every nook and cranny of our world and our lives, the last thing we need is for the dozing subterranean giant to awaken.

And there we go, it’s all Mankind’s fault. Yet, when what is supposed to be a scientific writing using the phrase “climate change”, the Warmists have lost the argument, since the climate always changes. Always has, always will. “Climate change” is simply a way to blame everything that happens on Mankind.

As stated many times, this is why more and more people are not only tuning out over the Warmistss religious tenets, but, laughing at them. The constant litany of doomsday prognostications, which all revolve around Other People using fossil fuels and their ice maker, linking real world happenings and possibilities with a whisper-thin thread to anthropogenic causes, have become so absurd that one can only laugh at them and picture Fonzie jumping a Megalodon.

And Warmists still won’t change their own behavior to match their talking points.

Who’s Up For Another Round Of Obama Talks Regarding Energy Prices?

Jazz Shaw terms this “Obama prepares to fight gas prices with new bumper sticker“. I’m not so sure, because our feckless president doesn’t seem to be taking even that much action

(Daily Herald)President Barack Obama will try to head off the political impact of rising gasoline prices as Republicans vow to make the price at the pump an issue in the 2012 election campaign.

Obama this week plans events focusing on his administration’s efforts to expand domestic exploration and development of alternative energy sources to combat cyclical spikes in gas prices.

Obama’s political team has been preparing to counter Republican attacks since the administration denied a permit for TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline, White House officials said. The renewed focus on what Obama has described as an “all-of-the-above” energy strategy kicks off with a speech tomorrow at the University of Miami.

And therein lies Obama’s problem….OK, one of his numerous problems….he loves talking about stuff, but, he never really does anything about it, at least not in a manner that Makes Things Better. And now he’s going to talk about energy some more, which will, based on his history with causing the stock market to go down when he speaks, cause the price of a barrel of oil to spike.

Let’s be honest for a minute, Obama is not fully responsible for the rising price of gas and energy: there are other factors at play, many of which are decades in the making, such as turning food into marginally useful fuel. That said, Bush had 100% of the blame placed solely on him by Democrats, including ones like Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and Obama. Obama even had a campaign commercial about high gas prices which Blamed Bush, via the Lonely Conservative.

Yet, when prices started spiking, President Bush didn’t run out and give a speech: he made things happen. He opened up domestic drilling. He spoke with overseas producers to expand supply. He didn’t simply yammer on about how pie in the sky initiatives would help us out decades in the future. Nor did Bush attempt to make things worse

Speaking of pie in the sky, via Junk Science, we learn

(Washington Examiner) A123 Systems, an electric car battery company once touted as a stimulus “success story” by former Gov. Jennifer Granhom, D-Mich., has laid off 125 employees since receiving $390 million in government subsidies — but is still handing out big pay raises to company executives.

The energy of the future sure seems to be working out well, eh?

Hooray, New Film Means Debate Is Over. Again

Can you guess what’s missing from this breathless HuffPo screed?

Sometimes people question whether or not Climate Change is real. After viewing the feature documentary, Chasing Ice, I can assure you that the debate is over. On Monday, January 23, 2012 –Chasing Ice, had its world premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival featuring documentary director Jeff Orlowski and his Academy Awarding winning production team led by Paula DuPré Pesmen, producer of the 2010 Academy Award®-winning The Cove, and writer Mark Monroe (The Cove, The Tillman Story).

Acclaimed National Geographic photographer James Balog was once a skeptic about climate change but through his Extreme Ice Survey, he discovers undeniable evidence about our global warming planet. In Chasing Ice, Balog deploys revolutionary time-lapse cameras to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers. The film features hauntingly beautiful, multi-year time-lapse videos of vanishing glaciers, while delivering fragile hope to our carbon-powered planet.

I’m shocked? A few surveyed and filmed glaciers melted? That’s never happened before…huh? They have melted? NY City was covered by a mile high glacier not so long ago in Earth’s history? Dude!

What about the glaciers that grew? But, then, that’s not really the point: this in no way proves anthropogenic global warming. It simply proves that the climate changes, and that we’re currently in a warm cycle.
